@6 Hard luck dude. Hopefully you'll find a new job soon! While this is a dark day for us all, and I'm really sorry for the people who will lose their job, but the management made too many wrong decisions, and it's come back to haunt them. Sad to say this, they bought it upon themselves (the higher-ups, not the employees on the shop floor). |

Game: You Can't Lose Me: /Facepalm I feel for everyone at Game but why would they close down Gamestation Stores aswell? I thought Gamestation was perfectly fine? And yes I know that they are owned by the same Company. -.-" Not trolling either. A massive hug to everyone out there and I hope that Game can find a way to slip out of Administration and back on its feet. |

I feel horrible for all the people out of work today, and all the people in those remaining branches that are gonna be stressing over their jobs over this next week. Maybe time to work on your CVs, just in case! Having said that - I'm glad GAME Group is going away. They've been overcharging people who didn't know better (mom's who just want to shut their kids up for a while by buying them a new video game etc.) for far too long. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a video game, and I buy all my games new and almost always at launch. It's just unnecessary. Hopefully those out of jobs will find new ones really soon! Good luck to you all. |

| what i still don't understand is why they decided to open so many shops, 2 of them are in Telford shopping centre, and its not a big shopping centre. Another thing i dont get is what possessed them to decide to sell stuff at competative prices on their online store, and charge full retail price on everything instore. i think thats what killed it for them, a bit of a ticking time bomb, but hopefully whoever buys them out will make it better. |

After reading the full shut down list.. I didn't see both GAME stores in Crawley going. Come to think about it, they always seemed empty. Fully expect Gamestation to go soon, which sucks, Gamestation are fantastic and have excellent staff /: Oh well, I'll have to rely on CEX now, I won't fall for HMV's extortionate prices. [All of the above mentioned stores were within about 2 minutes of each other, I guess that doesn't help] |

Im not too keen when it comes to business law in the US and Im not even going to pretend to know anything bout the UK and/or laws butoOne thing I dont get why didnt Game Group sell out to someone like GameStop or one of the other companies? Is there some sort of financial gain when a company goes under that CEOs and top brass make or keep more money once the business go into Administration? I know in the US when someone files for Bankruptcy there are loopholes people exploit to keep cars, houses, etc. But IF a business goes under they usually cut the top and freeze accounts IF it were something that could have been foreseen? OT: Thoughs and prayers to the employees and thier families whom have and may loose thier jobs. As for those Fat Cats I hope the choke on their Baluga Cavier. |

I'm hoping the one I go to doesn't close down for a selfish reason. First, I wanna get Warriors Orochi 3 from there on friday when it comes out and once GAME closes all stores, I'll only have HMV left to buy games from. Second, I've enjoyed the conversations with one employee in particular at the store the past year. |

| Brick and Mortar stores just can't compete with the prices one can get on Amazon or other virtual retail 'giants'. It is sad but true. Here in the states I hardly EVER get a game from Best Buy or Target for the simple reason that I can get it usually for 15 bucks cheaper WITH shipping (which is often free) on Amazon. I don't exactly make bank so I need to save where I can. THese stores just can't compete with that. |

| Feel sorry for the people that lost their jobs but GAME are a victim of their own success, In Brighton we have 2 GAMES and 1 gamestation all within half a mile of each other which is just plain ridiculous, they are not compettetive with prices either, asda is often 10-15% cheaper on day one releases and about 200 metres away from these 3 stores is cex which sells all pre-owned games at the very least 10% less, they made no efforts to price match or compete which is why they lost costumers and consequently money..... |

Just a damn shame cause out of all the places I bought my games over the last 23 years, GAME were the best. Even beating out EB which closed in the late 90s. |

Manchester Arndale Centre, has two GAMEs and a Gamestation. It's not even that big a shopping centre. Then, there's a GAME concession in the Debenhams directly across the road from the Arndale centre. And, for about six months, they opened a second, larger Gamestation adjascent to the Arndale. It didn't last, I wonder why. Just checked the closure list. Oh my god, so, they've closed BOTH GAMEs in the Arndale. And the one in Bury (which was the only single GAME for miles, although, there is a Gamestation nearby), AND the one in the Trafford Centre. And the one in Bolton. That's pretty much every GAME I personally know of in my area, except possibly the Debenhams concession, but that hardly counts, the bigger shops just used it for spare stock. On the one hand I mean, Gamestation was always better. I'd heard stories from friends who applied for GAME, dunno how true it was, but apparently they actively didn't want to employ people who displayed a good knowledge and interest in games. They wanted people who'd sell what needed selling, rather than selling the right thing for the customer, or god forbid advising them not to buy something. Gamestation on the other hand always seemed to try to employ people who knew what they were talking about. Really hope they don't close now too, they always had a better preowned selection too (more retro stuff). On the other hand though, I mean, it's GAME. They're an institution. It'll be weird not to see them on the high street any more. I mean sure, the last five years or so I only ever shopped there when they snagged preorder exclusives, because Amazon's cheaper. But still. It's GAME. Sucks for the staff though, I've been through a redundancy due to shop closure, so I definitely feel for them. |

So apparently 2 of THREE Game stores in Coventry are still open, but 1 plus Gamestation has closed. It's sad for the people who have lost their job, but Game have been asking for trouble for a while. 2 Game stores and a Gamestation within 2 mins of each other is too much, it's not needed. Add to that their prices which were, on the whole, very expensive. Yes you could pick up the odd bargain, but they would sell pre-owned games for near the price of new games. Or 12-18 months after release pre-owned would be £10 less than the original sale price. While Amazon and the supermarkets would have them NEW for another £10-£15 less than Game's pre-owned price. Again, I feel for those that have lost their job and hope they find new jobs soon, but I don't feel sorry for Game itself. |

@16. I know what you mean about Telford Centre having 3 stores. Pointless due to the size. I moved away to live in Wales last year, and my nearest stores are over the border in Chester. If they shut, I'll have nowhere to go but my local market stall for 2nd hand games. No guarantee on the stock though despite a big selection. |

@22: True dat, and the thing is you can pass all 3, a HMV and a a CEX within two minutes of walking. You'd have thought better placement of stores would have been beneficial to the company. But the ones who really lose out are the saff who've lost their jobs today. No doubt that the higher ups will get extremely generous redundancy packages, whilst the regular staff, in the UK's current state, will have no choice but to claim benefits for months until job positions appear from somewhere. A sad day for retail. |

I feel sorry for the staff, but the store was managed poorly. New games were more expensive than most places, and in store games were always a couple of quid more than online. If that is not encouragement to just shop online what is? They wouldn't even price match themselves. I liked the online store, I buy a lot of dirt cheap pre-owned games from there. The amount of good games I've picked up a few months after release for £3-10 is ridiculous. |

First off, let's spare a thought for the staff who have lost their jobs. These people have families to support, bills to pay etc. Games problem was the pricing. £42 for a new release, or £40 for the same game pre owned? With online passes and shit it cost more to purchase games second hand. Trade in prices were shite. People were always going to look elsewhere. As someone above mentioned the staff treated you like an inconvenience. There was no love in the stores. A gaming shop should be employing people who are gamers, who can give advice and talk to you about games. It's a sad day but one I think was always coming. |

Despite all the criticism people are throwing at GAME, I'm sad to see it go. It was a part of my childhood, and now we're stuck with HMV for games (which makes GAME prices look like a christmas sale all the time.) or buying online. And of course the jobs, I'll miss the over the counter banter. |

As said feel for all that have lost their jobs. I think it's mistake to generalise staff in GAME or Gamestation, been in a few times they were ignoreant and unhelpful, been in other times and served by the manager who was so helpful he was annoying, kept trying to sell me everygame and guide book in under the sun (probably as he knew what the rest of us now know!)The very last time I went in I was in Nottingham and had a £35 discount card which I am not very glad I used earlier than I was planning to! Staff were brilliant and banter was top notch. So like with everything in life it depends on the indivdual, they are not all the same. Having said all that, totally agree with anyone who says they have too many stores, the city I have the most experience in is Leicester and they used to (not sure if they still do) have two stores in the Shires/Highcross, one up stairs one down, which is in the grand scheme of things a very average sized shopping centre. If you walk out the main entrance to this shopping centre and talk 20 seconds past the clock tower there is another GAME, if you walk 2 minutes up Granby street there is a Gamestation. It's no wonder their rent bill is huge. Will be sad to see it go as people have said they do charge too much but I grew up with them and did still use them as I liked the convienance of being able to pick games up when I wanted instead of having them delivered. |

| HMV are expensive, supermarkets don't carry many titles and are hugely expensive if you aren't looking for the latest titles, and Grainger Games stock dodgy imports with UK ratings labels stuck on in-store. Left with online, which is hit and miss. Can get some absolute bargains, or be left having to decide between a few chancers price-gouging "rare" titles. Joy. |

In our town, in Birmingham, they have a GAME store in each of the bullring areas and a Gamestation around the corner from the bullring. In all honesty though, I go to my Gamestation that is local to me which isn't in town. The company is getting ridiculous now though, I lost a gift card I had at Christmas 'cos they've stopped them for the moment, even though the person who gave it me spent the money in store to get the card. I'm starting to hate on the company, which is a shame 'cos the staff in my local Gamestation are ace. Just a shame to see them get treated like dirt. Hope it's still open, I'll check tomorrow. |

game group gone hmvs back is seriously against the wall, cex in bristol only deal in preown never new plus there shop literally stinks (a tangible almost rotting puke smell no joke go in there and you will agree)pretty soon the ONLY shops left trading games will be the supermarket giants and once that happens and they have the market cornered they will charge full rrp all the time. no competion equals being told what to pay. i swear every week that goes by i increasingly believe that orwell was right just off by a few decades. |

Well done GAME corp you destroyed Gamestation and all thise people you have made redundant. They had it coming and I cannot believe the fact that they were still taking pre orders when they were waiting to collapse. When trying to price match they would only do this with their sister store and tried to rip customers off with trade in value. To be honest I'm surprised HMV didn't go first. I do feel for those that have lost their jobs but nostalgia should not warrant there being a store on a high street, but there are other stores that just do things so much better than GAME. |

Gamestation is a great store and i dont really like game and never have. However they are all too competitive for their own good. Where i live there is a gamestation, game and bee.com all within 2 minutes of each other and then another 2 minutes around the corner there is a CeX and grainger games within 30 seconds of each other. There is also a HMV another couple of minutes away which i think is just a ticking time bomb for something to go wrong which it has. I do still think that it should be gamestation which is the one still open and not the others! |

I hate GAME HQ for while because it is overprice for new and used games which is bullshit and have too many stores everywhere in UK and Dublin. Well still sorry to staffs, God bless to them for who will have find new jobs. :) Shopto.net and amazon.co.uk is best!! Go order games there and better deals and prices!!! |

Stafford Gamestation closed, was in there the day before and they had shelves full of stock. The GAME a minute away remains open with virtually no second hand 360 stock, just copies of same game, old WWE/PES/UFC etc or overpriced newish titles. Strange how they have not amalgamated stock between stores. |
