Sega Vintage Collection: Alex Kidd & Co.

Now this is a bit special. One of the formative gaming experiences of our lifetime, Alex Kidd in Miracle World is heading to the Xbox Live Arcade and he's bringing a couple of his SEGA friends along with him for the SEGA Vintage Collection: Alex Kidd & co. You may remember Alex Kidd being that funny game built-in to your SEGA Master System II back in the day.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World was hard as nails, as was Revenge of Shinobi, which was sorely absent from the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis Collection, but will be in the SEGA Vintage Collection. Playing as Joe Musashi, you take on the denizens of the Neo Zeed with little more than a katana and some throwing darts. Remember the cheat for infinite shurikens!

Super Hang-On is also included in the three game collection, offering arcade motorbike racing. There's also a second SEGA Vintage Collection on the cards too, with Wonder Boy's Monster World trilogy. The Monster World collection unites Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World and Monster World IV in one digital download for XBLA.

Each collection adds leaderboards, achievements, recordable and downloadable game sessions, challenging new trial modes and the Alex Kidd & co. collection will also support an option to turn on the original Japanese dialogue, as well as a 3D mode for Super Hang-On and in-game juke boxes. Check out the first screens from both collections below. Release dates and pricing for the SEGA Vintage Collections have yet to be confirmed.

	Rich, you had made this day one of the best. Wonder boy in monster world was my growing up game. I still remember trying to remember the ocarina tunes as i couldn't be bothered to find a pen. THE best side scrolling rpg there is.

	VERY excited for Wonder Boy in Monster World. It really is one of the best sidescrolling games ever made. I wasted a ton of time playing it as a kid, and then rebought it for my Wii.

	they should make anouther mega collection. sega made alot of good games back in the day. man i miss those days. good ole fashion fun! not this ahcieves crap. say what you will about cd/dvd games. but cart games still kick ass! would love to see more rpgs too. genesis was the best system & still is!

	Here is an idea MS. Have a premium xbla section and one dedicated to retro gaming. I for one would be more than happy to see the games of yesteryear coming back along side more higher end titles. They just seem so thin on the ground compared to other consoles online services. Any way looking forward to both of these compilations.

	@10 I saw a UK/US certification on monster land 4 last year this must be it surfacing. Worth pointing out 4 never saw the light of day outside of Japan and is quite an ironic title as you play as a female. Sega have a fantastic reputation for bringing what the fans want. And after just finishing binary domain they can still make a cracking title. Square-Enix Take note.

	Monster Land was superb, my favourite mastersystem game ever and along with the games the best platformer of the time. The follow ups were okay but not as interesting with the clever transform ability and level design. Shame the original Wonderboy isn't here though, hard as nails but pretty fun and addictive at the time. Remember throwing many an axe at a boss troll's head in the 80's.

	So they're releasing more of the Vintage Collection? That's cool! Now, SEGA, how about releasing Ecco II: The Tides of Time and Sonic 3D Blast on XBLA? Before anyone yells at me, I know that they're both on the Ultimate MegaDrive Collection, but it'd be much easier for me to access them via my hard drive, plus I'll be able to get a full 200G for each game (not because I want to boost my gamerscore, but because I like to get achievements for games I love).

	I remember the infinite shurikens. Just go to options change the starting amount to 00 and just wait with it highlighted and it should turn to the infinite symbol. I wonder if it will have spiderman in it like the Mega Drive version.

	@53 I am totally with you there. Shining Force 2 is still one of the best strategy RPGs out there, and I would love to get my hands on 3. Not to mention the other Shining games and that sequel to Beyond Oasis that I can never remember the name of. I never played Monster World, but a trio of Sega action RPGs from the 16 bit era? Count me in!

	Awesome - 400MSP and they'll be day one buys, although as we're talking about a collection of three games I imagine they'll charge at least 800MSP. The great thing about this is that 200G would be thinly spread across 3 games, but these releases will be able to advantage of the new 400G-cap! :)

	Oh Glorious days....Miracle World was extremely hard but I did get to beat it. I do Think Wonder Boy in Monster Land was even harder, but that was mainly because of the final Castle and the need to get there twice so you can map the route, and then play again so you can actually damage the dragon. I am excited for the Wonder Boy monster World Trilogy. I played and beat the first two but never got my hands on IV.

	@16 - Or he just plays alot of games? Fantastic news, i never played the Wonder Boy titles in the early 90s but what i played on the gens emulator and on my brothers master system all them years ago was enough to tell me they are good games. The other collection is cool but i would of liked Revenge of Shinobi, Shinobi 3 and Shadow Dancer as a collection. Love me Shadow Dancer.

	Alex Kidd gets top billing, but it's Revenge of Shinobi (I stopped short of getting it for Wii Virtual Console) & Super Hang-On (please let it be the arcade code) that are tempting me. As for Saturn stuff that deserves the XBLA treatment: * Panzer Dragoon Saga. I really hope those rumours about Sega losing the source code for this aren't true. * Silhouette Mirage. 	77 - Simply beating Monster World is one hell of an achievement. I could never do it but that achieve will motivate me to finally do it. Now get those Disney classics such as Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, Toy Story, Lion King and the rest released :)

	I'm so happy about the Monster World. I literally LOVE these games to pieces and have played Monster World for endless hours on my mega drive. Overjoyed...so much love for SEGA right now.
