Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two

Warren Spector Confirms Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two

After some pretty substantial rumours, Warren Spector has confirmed that Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.

The first Epic Mickey was a conceptually interesting, but ultimately flawed Wii-exclusive. But now the designer of the original Deus Ex is bringing the sequel to the big boys.

In doing so, Spector’s taken an interesting angle. Speaking to Associated Press, he revealed that the game will actually be a musical, featuring full voice acting for all of the cast of characters.

"I'm such a geek about musicals," he said. "I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic."

The game itself will see Mickey and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit explore the Cartoon Wasteland, a place for forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions. It will feature drop-in, drop-out co-op, with one player controlling Mickey and his paintbrush, and the other playing as Oswald.

"You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald," said Spector. "If you're playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He's not just a multiplayer character. He's a helper, whether you're playing alone or with a friend or family member."

Spector also said that his team is working hard on the game’s camera, one of the most criticised aspects on the original Epic Mickey. "We've had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game,” he said. “They'll be working on it until the day we ship the second game.”

"(There have been) over 1000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game."

No further details were given. Still though, exciting!

This could be a potentially fun romp, if for no other reason than pure Disney nostalgia. You're never too old for Disney. Will keep an eye on this to see how it pans out.

This guy kind of reminds me of Peter Molyneux: made some really good games back in the day, gained a lot of respect, and then pissed it all away with some crap games. And in Spector's case, blew more of it by ranting about how everyone complaining about the camera problems with the game is just people not understanding his game and that no game has had a good camera. No Warren, you just made a crap camera. It has nothing to do with people not getting it and plenty of other games have had great cameras.

Finally! I was originally thrilled for the announcement of the first Epic Mickey, only to be let down when it was Wii exclusive.

This should certainly be entertaining at the least. Now if they could only make a WDW Adventures game (not Disneyland).

I never even finished the first game because of the camera and some of the odd intricacies of the game. I hope this one pulls through decently.

I would have liked to play the first game further, but between the camera and how much I hate the Wii controller I just couldn't force myself to do it. Will keep an eye on this one.

I enjoyed first one on Wii and this good so yah camera fixed is poor so I bet Epic Mickey 2 will much improvements and they learned from fans who played first one and made complait as well they knew from reviews explain about camera fixed problems and some control weaks.

So cannot wait for Epic Mickey 2 on Xbox 360 will preorder it by near release. Also I am exciting for this game because from what I enjoyed it's first series and this time with achievements!!

I will be monitoring this closely....

I just hope they get their heads out of their asses and put actually use some or all of that drippy Dystopia-Disneyland stuff we saw in the concept art. THAT stuff was cool. THAT stuff got people very interested in the project.

@7 - There's no chance that won't happen. I fully expect to see "Better With Kinect" pasted on the box.

The first game is pretty good. Glad to see the series is going to be on the 360 as well.

I liked the premise of Epic Mickey. The part I hated were the controls to attack having to do stuff with the remote was stupid. It would have been so much better to allow a button to do the same thing. I think I made it about half way through and got tired of it.

Really wanted to play the original but never got round to it, mainly because it was on Wii.

The sequel being announced on Xbox 360 is a massive bonus and I'll almost certainly be picking it up.

Cheers

Gotta wonder if they'll give us the original as an add-on or on XBLA.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on this being a musical. Maybe this game will have that one song I remember? How did it go again?

It's a wonderful day for pie!
You can ask all the birds in the sky!
And they'll tell you real sweet
with a musical tweet,
"It's a wonderful day for pie!"

Ah yes this takes me back to the days when the Disney name was associated
with some of the greatest cartoons ever made... You know before all the
crappy tween shows featuring Miley Cyrus and those two douchebags Zack and
Cody.

I'd rather have a port of the original Deus Ex.. or even Invisible War.
