Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Patriots

Rainbow 6: Patriots Development Team Undergoes Big Changes [Updated]

Rainbow 6: Patriots seemed to be taking a bold step with its narrative, having players step into the shoes of victims, such as hostages, before assuming control of the titular crack team of operatives to rescue the person you've just been playing as.

This shifting perspective looked to be the core conceit for Patriots, but if a drastic changing of the guard at dev team Ubisoft Montreal is any sort of an indication, it could all be heading in a completely different direction, according to Game Informer's sources.

The restructuring of the Rainbow 6: Patriots dev team has involved removing Creative Director David Sears, Narrative Director Richard Rouse III, Lead Designer Philippe Therien, and Animation Director Brent George, all key players in the version of the game we all saw in the target trailer, which you can view again below.

All we can do is wait, and see what comes next for the project. For now, Rainbow 6: Patriots is still pencilled in for a 2013 launch.

[Update]

Heavy Rain designer, Jean-Sebastien Decant has been named the new Creative Director on Rainbow 6: Patriots, as revealed in a statement from Ubisoft, issued to GI:

"David Sears is no longer on the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots team and the new Creative Director is Jean-Sebastien Decant. The development team is still hard at work to deliver the next installment of the revered Tom Clancy series and more details on the game will be revealed at a later date."

Ridiculous. You have a team that wants to veer off and do something innovative for the genre and they get shut down. Probably too dark for the kiddies. Absolute bullshit, the industry's shooting itself in the foot.

Well I guess we can't judge until we see what happens. Hopefully it's not like Splinter Cell Conviction where it was delayed forever.

I thought the trailer looked like sh*t compared to Vegas 2, so good for them for realizing that they had a bad game on their hands.

This is the third Tom Clancy game Ubisoft has started over with in the last two years. Why? People were excited, pumped, and ready to play it. If you want to go in another different direction, release this one THEN try something else.

How many times is this that Ubisoft has done this? Thought they had a good idea then canceled it and had to completely remake the game. We just watched this happen with Future Soldier, does this mean Patriots will get the same delay treatment?

Hmmm as long it not messy up with team tactic which is fantastic in lots of rainbow six series. I hope this is stick to it and they can do different routes with this famous team tactics. Not many FPS games that offers with team tactics in singleplayer campaign :)

If Ubisoft not want team tactics then that will be rip off in this new RS.

UBISOFT, PLEASE STICK TO TEAM TASTICS THAT HOW ALL RS SERIES IS AMAZING USING IT FOR FPS!!

I can accept if team tactics into Third-Person Shooter (maybe this type is new for RS)

As long Team Tactics is stay!!!

Typical Ubisoft. Not surprised by this, expect 3 more changes until its watered down and repetitive.

I play video games to take on the role of a badass killing machine operative, not the 9 to 5 office manager who pisses himself when imposing men show up.

Yeah that's what you get for taking a chance, going the "unpopular" route of not siding with the "Good Guys" and bringing in Tactics in a console game....

It was the first Rainbow Six I have been interested in in a very long time and they decide to pull the folks actually with a clue what Rainbow Six needs to be about. If this turns into another Vegas I for one am not picking it up.

They should fire the guys from R6V2 who made those terrible enemy respawns in terrorist hunt. Maybe they put that caffeine guy from E3 in charge of everything.

This just means the game will be delayed until 2014, then they will realize the next gen consoles are coming out, and delay this into 2015 or 2016. They will have Assassin's Creed 10 out before RB6 releases.

Splinter Cell: Conviction, part made, binned, re-made . . . Delayed ages
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, delayed and delayed and delayed, STILL not out . . .
Rainbow 6, no news for far too long, then teased, now confusion, delays? Probably knowing Ubisoft . . .

BUT on a positive note, Splinter Cell, fantastic game, a totally different type of game for SC, but fantastic regardless.
Ghost Recon, if it's as good as it looks, we're in for a treat, seriously, it does look pretty damn good . . .
Rainbow 6, looks like they've got an absolute peach of a game in the works. If they can move forward with new ideas and still keep that Rainbow 6 feel to it, both in SP & Multiplayer (and by keeping Terrorist Hunt in there too) then they really could redfine Tactical FPS Games.

I'm stoked to hell for Patiots, just hope we don't get a huge letdown when we FINALLY get to play it . . .
