Silent Hill HD Collection

Silent Hill HD Collection Given a Proper March Release Date
Written Thursday, March 01, 2012 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

Delayed into March back in January, Konami was supposed to be issuing word on a specific release date for Silent Hill HD Collection later in the same week that news of the delay dropped. Clearly that didn't happen, but now there has been a release date nailed down for the Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 HD bundle.

Originally intended to launch on March 6th, Konami has since shifted the launch date to March 20th. There's no reason been given for the delay, but it does now mean that Silent Hill HD Collection will be sandwiched between Silent Hill: Downpour on March 13th and SH: Book of Memories for some other console.

Whether Silent Hill: Downpour will be subjected to the same delay is unclear, as things have gone mysteriously quiet on that front, much like the haunting, abandoned town itself. Silent Hill HD Collection will be arriving on March 20th, 2012.

Interested in this, but am gutted that SH1 isn't also a part of this, as, you'd have thought that would make sense, no?

The first Silent Hill game is on the PSN market I believe. That's probably why it wasn't included.

@11 When this was announced and you 'apparently' placed your preorder, what were you expecting other than what is still included?

I think you're pulling our legs on this one... :)

OT: Can't wait, best games in the series by far, and better than half the RE games. Day one.

I just hope they release Silent Hill HD Collection 2 soon after and it includes Silent Hill 4 The Room and a full HD port of Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Who else would buy that?

Don't know why it got pushed??? Umm releasing Silent Hill HD on the same day as Mass Effect 3 would NOT be a good idea...smart to push it back to give it a chance to sell better. I can't wait for it to release was going to play it the same day as Mass Effect 3 but i'm willing to wait :)

a lot of developers have been playing around with their release dates making the release anticlimactic, i've kind of forgotten about this one to honest.

Nah! Ain't got time for this, besides Operation Raccoon City will be out the same time. Skip this 'til the summer when game releases are dead at that period.

@1 Because SH1 is on PS1. You honestly can't expect them to make an HD port of such a low resolution game.

@15 If SH4 was in it hell yes, but Shattered Memories? No thanks. If you liked that game ok but it was an abomination to the story of the franchise. I'd rather see Origins maybe.

Also this needs to be in my hand right goddamn now.

@20 Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was an abomination but Silent Hill: Origins wasn't? How does that make sense? Everything after Silent Hill 4: The Room has been an abomination thanks to the movie and none of the game developers wanting to let go of the Silent Hill 2 plot.

@20, Surely, the whole point of a HD remake is to bring games from previous generationS to a new audience with a new lease of shiny HD life in it, so yes, I did honestly think they may have made the effort. Now, if SH1 was a PS exclusive/only title and thats the reason, fair do's, but just lazyness? Not good enough, it just seems like a pointless exercise to remake 2 and 3 without the first and still expect people who have never tried the franchise to jump on board, just seems odd to me.

@23 What I don't understand is adding Silent Hill 3 into the HD Collection when the game is a direct sequel to Silent Hill yet not include Silent Hill? Maybe they should release the original as a Arcade game. I would be fine without achievements or it being HD, I would just rather have it where everyone knows the story behind Silent Hill.

@23 Hey I'm not saying they shouldn't include it. I'm all for it being in the collection whether it be an HD remake or not. Although since they want this to be a collection of past games and not remakes, it would just be awkward to have a PS1 quality game on current gen consoles.

@20 Origins was not good either I agree. They story had a billion blatant loopholes that did not line up with the true lore of the series. However, I'd rather play it than SH:SM tbh. SH:SM was an honest attempt at reliving the original game but half the time, I didn't feel like I was playing a SH game.

@20... we have REmake and Tomb Raider both given the full remaster treatment, and last I checked, Capcom and Eidos/Square didn't break the bank to make them. There's no reason except Konami is the stingiest company ever. When you out stingy Capcom, you're doing something wrong.

Still, I will buy this cause love SH so much!

I think they should at least include a voucher or code to download the original Silent Hill via PSN and/or XBOX LIVE, although personally I have a hard time playing a non-HD game nowadays.

Also regarding my post at @15, I've never played Shattered Memories but I remember it getting good reviews so I thought it would be nice to include it in another collection, revamped in HD, for those like myself who've never had a Wii or PSP. Also, I've never even heard of Origins but might as well include that one too!

About time you guys reported on this. I emailed you about a week and a half ago about the delay >_>

OT: So long as the delay isn't another few months, I don't mind so much. Now where's the achievement list!!

I don't think I'm going to buy this collection. For one thing I don't know if they changed the voice acting considering I've been hearing they did that or something similar. On top of that, the only Silent Hill game I really ever wanted to play was 1. When I saw reviews for 1 I was amazed by the plot and how well it was executed. Now here is a HD remake and they pull the same stunt that the Metal Gear collection pulled.

I understand that PSN already had these two titles available on their marketplace (being Metal Gear Solid 1 and Silent Hill 1), but honestly isn't there a way to put these games as addons for Playstation and whole separate games on the Xbox versions. You know looking at it from a marketing perspective I can see that the companies are trying to save money by doing that, but yet I believe the games would sell better if the availability was there.

In conclusion I'm not buying this collection. It's a complete waste considering the 1st one isn't on there. However, I still am not sure on the voice acting though.

This is completely screwing over us achievement hunters. We get to play 2 full games for a maximum of 400 gs. That's a lot of work for a measly 400. Bad news.

SH1 and MGS1 are both on psn... PS1 games.. doubt they'll ever be released on xbox... To everyone wondering why, or it's a bad move or dumb.. or whatever.. they can't... it's impossible... unless microsoft pays ps... it's just not gonna happen... Now.. alot of ps2 games are being made for both current consoles.. I beleive its because Sony had all rights to 3rd party titles back with the ps1... but they changed the way they did it, during the ps2's cycle.. so the publisher has the rights to their own titles.

I totally agree.. i'd buy The Room if they did/added/remake/make that one...

or... instead of microsoft paying sny.. maybe its a matter of konomi paying sony... either way it's not gonna happen.. besides.. remastered in HD and graphical overhaul are 2 completely diff things.. and making old gams in Hd is easy.. total graphical overhauls would definetly not be easy...

On a positive note I noticed the other day on Gamestop's website the price was decreased from $40 to $30 but I'm unsure if that is permanent or a promo sale for the first week.

All these HD rereleases serve little purpose. I played it and will probably get it at some point, but there is so many games I haven't played that these HD remakes take second stage. one could argue that it's good for ppl that never got a chance to play these, but I doubt they even care, since they're used to tighter controls/graphics and about everything else. Then agian, I guess everyone's turning in profit, because these just keep coming up=) Also wish first game was included...

Hmmm the achievments look pretty boring not like the awesome Metal Gear achievments they were so funny some of them but these are just boring, but silent hill 2,3 are great games although after 3 I lost interest In The Room was just horrible and so was Shattered Memories how could they go from greatness of 3 then fall so bad in TheRoom this is a classic example of what not to do with sequels

I think I'll wait on this bordering on not gettin it

For those of you saying that Silent Hill 1 should've been added...they already remade Silent Hill 1 on the PSN. That's probably why they didn't add it to this collection. Same with Resident Evil 1,2,3
