It was okay. But without thinking I can say Mass Effect 2 was better. Or Metal Gear Solid. Give me ten minutes and I will come up with a much better number 1.

| Whoever compiled the votes has to be blind. That, or the gamers who voted were tiny little kids who have actually no gaming experience at all. Black Ops on #1, what a joke. Especially since a pritty good ending such as Gears of War 3 isn't even included in the list. No way a game as World at War can beat the ending of Gears of War 3. Sorry, but I never actually get the campaigns of Call of Duty games anyway, as it is war, and the ending is (almost) always the same; the good guys win and the bad guys die, and without a fictional story, that'd be, well, repetitive. My overal rating of this list is 3/10, as the top simply can't be the trueth. I call for a re-vote. |

What a load of shite - who voted for these endings, people that haven't actually played a game before?
Just off the top of my head: they missed Silent Hill 2, FF8 and 9 both had a better ending than 7, we've already seen the Black Ops ending on the previous 3 CoD games, Majoras Mask had a better ending than OoT, Klonoa, KoToR, Legacy of Kain, Chrono Trigger, Links Awakening and many more.

It was a really nice touch and a great way to end.

I keep coming back to this, but Drakengard! It's a game that revolves around flying dragons, battling and working through missions against a fantasy backdrop.
Cut to the ending, where your dragon is shot down by fighter jets as you pass through a dimension barrier, and the main character splats against the side of Tokyo Tower...
Or even the part after the credits in Castlevania: LoS!

maybe if this list was polled by more people above the age of 20. let's look at good movie endings:
usual suspects, fight club, godfather just to name a few. epic movies. epic endings. you don't watch action flicks for a story. you watch them coz you're looking for light entertainment. i'm not even half way through Alan Wake and that game has miles more substance than a cold war action game. I enjoyed Black Ops don't get me wrong. But I wouldn't dare put it before Ocarina of Time, Fallout, Gears 3, Halo Reach, KOTOR, Portal, Half Life. Do I need to keep going. Can someone please take us back to when games/movies/music were about substance not $$$.. |

| Of all the call of duty games, surely the 1st modern warfare was the best for story and ending..?! But even then I wouldn't have put that at number 1. Assassins creed: brotherhood ending was great, half life was awesome, borderlands was fantastic, red dead redemption was epic, bioshock 1&2 were classy but my favourite has to be mass effect 2... Left me in such a sense of suspense and desire for the next installment I actually screamed at the tv. |

| One of the worst lists I have ever seen. Black Ops shouldn't even be close to getting in a top 100 list, the story was completely forgetable from start to finish. Also FFVII is the only Final Fantasy game on this list and other games in the series had much better endings than that one. |

I agree with pretty much everyone else here in that the list is meaningless bullshit...
I don't think Black Ops had the worst ending ever but I had thought Reznov was a split-personality a good while before it was actually revealed...
Personally can think of lots more endings that are way better, just off the top of my head too. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for a start, the final battle between Snake & Liquid was unbelievably classy. Bioshock's mind control ending was so unexpected & clever. To name but a few.
Don't agree with people sayin Gears 3's ending should be on the lost though, I was really disappointed after a decent campaign. Honestly thought the ending was pure shit to be honest. |

I also don't really think that any Assassin's Creed story or ending should ever make a ''good" Top Whatever list. While I love the games, they should've just made the story during the time period of each game and ditched the future-hopping, ancient alien god nonsense.

Don't get me wrong - I like Call of Duty, and have played through a majority of campaigns...but the ending of Black Ops was forgettable at best.
How about Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV/VI/IX/X, Skies of Arcadia, Xenogears, Silent Hill, Lunar:SSSC/EBC, Jet Force Gemini, Zelda: ALTTP/Link's Awakening/Wind Waker, Grandia II, Okami... I could probably make a list of 50 games with better endings than Black Ops. |

Well, I suppose I did love the Black Ops campaign. I mean, I predicted the ending about 3/4's of the way through, but hell, I predicted 'The usual suspects' ending the moment I heard the name 'Keyser soze'.
Saying that, it shouldn't be number 1. There is no way the ending is better than Mass Effect's, Bioshock, Any Assassins Creed (Minus revelations), or Portal.
Red Dead should ideally be top to be honest. That had a superb ending. I don't see how any gamer could rank a CoD ending above that.
Also, HOW THE F*** is Halo reach at number 2? Gameplay-wise, I loved Reach. But the campaign was bloody boring. Halo 1 + 3 were superior. At least ODST's had that scene where a monkey was grooming someone, Reach's was just... well, nothing. Noble 6 died, which if you'd been following the Halo backstory you would have figured out anyway. Only MC and the spartans on Onyx are still alive.
In the future, Guinness, ask the gaming journalists. I'm sure folk from this site, IGN and Gamespot, to name but a few, would be willing to collaborate... |

COD gets the front runner for the fact that it's a military game. Pretty pathetic IMO when way more games actually had better plot, character development and even pacing than the COD jargon. COD4 was great but even so, many more games had more satisfying endings.

I see no issue with most being from recent generations. As gaming has evolved, so have game plots. We've gone from the simple days of Spyro the Dragon and Sonic plots, to plots involving all out intergalactic war. As such, I can kind of understand most of them being recent. |

Pokemon Black and White actually had a half decent story IMO. It wasn't as good as Bioshocks or SW KOTOR but it was good nonetheless.
The fact that Black Ops got number one and that Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 is even on the list pretty much says it all. I'm a big Star Wars fan however the story for Force Unleashed 2 was pretty abysmal and I was extremely disappointed with the game in that respect.
However this is just my opinion and the list is also likely a collective opinion of a specific group of gamers. I am interested about who exactly they questioned. Might shed some light on this list. |

Now about that list. What constitutes as the ending? Does it start at the final boss battle or encounter? I always considered the ending after that moment. I wonder if any of these voters thought the final level as a whole counts as the ending. The fact that Chrono Trigger with about 13 different endings (most of which were great) is nowhere to be seen makes me immediately call foul of this list. |

So....they asked 13,000 gamers (which to them, probably means kids 12-16) what their favorite game was....and since most of those kids only get 2 games a year...this list was created. I mean really....Super Mario Bros? How about we have someone who actually knows something about video games try this poll again? | I agree they probably asked a young crop of gamers. I definitely remember the end of every Call of Duty barring Finest Hour. I haven't played that game for awhile and only briefly played the XBLA version. Black Ops ending was pretty good actually. I was kinda pissed about the whole JFK thing though. It was like "Yay! I saved the day!" then it was like "Wait. Are they saying I killed Kennedy?!" Bah! |

I felt the original MW was one of, if not the greatest ending of any game I've ever played and they put it in the mid 20s here. | sigh. Yes, I enjoyed Black Op's single player (I play the games for SP, and splitscreen/co-op, online isn't really my cup of tea), but what about Turok? You shoved a grenade into a T-Rex's eye and watched the top half of its head explode, and then Turok standing there, knife in hand as blood rains down on him. Red Dead Redemption should have been a bit higher. Medal of Honor (2010) should have been on there. I will admit, reading the dedication screen at the end almost made me tear up (I know people who are serving in the military). |

This list is garbage. Did they pick people out at the modern warfare 3 midnight release or something? On that topic why are there 4 call of dutys and 3 assassin's creed games? What happened to only one entry from each series? Plus only two games pre ps2 era? Those 13,000 "gamers" were 12.

| That does it, I'm disowning gamers from my generation. It's clear a lot of them have never played anything that has even a modicum of a fraction of a sliver of sophistication and originality. Disowning will be reversed on a case by case basis. |

| They polled 13,000 people. How the fuck does that make it the perfect ending to a game? That just means more people like that game than anyother game. And I'm sure that half of those people who voted for it have never beat the campaign... They just played countless hours of multiplayer and based the campaign off of that. |

@208 You are the one who can't read. I am not bothered by your opinions, I don't think Black Ops had the best video game ending from the games I have played. I just pointed out that 100+ people can't seem to grasp that the results of this poll are personal opinions. Yeah I can read and see that they wanted to get people talking, but majority of these complaints sound like a bunch of kids complaining because something didn't go their way. It is really pathetic, most of these comments are accusing the people who took the poll as 12 year old kids. 13,000 12 year old kids? really first 13,000 people voted a majority of them just happened o vote for black ops. All 13,000 didn't vote for black ops. Look at the 3rd place vote Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I doubt most 12 year old kids would have played that game. You have portal at number 7, RDR at number 6. You guys see a COD at number 1 and you you hate that so you complain and blame it on kids. Did you really look at the other games? MSG 3, Oblivion. Come on I'm sure kids have played these some of these games but I doubt they would allow kids to take this poll anyway. Most of these game are M rated.
Anyway I disagree with Black Ops at number 1. I would probably say it is a tie between RDR, Uncharted 2,POP: The Sands of Time and others I can't remember but I'm not gonna throw a fit because of it. |

| Just because you didn't understand the Black Ops story doesn't mean it didn't have a good ending. Definitely shouldn't have taken #1 but no need to shit on it because 13,000 random people they polled happened to like it and obviously don't have a varied gaming experience. I wouldn't even be able to pick a best ending because i've played so many great games with awesome endings! |

I wonder what the 'real' gamers think about which has the best ending, you know the people who actually play all games till the end.
They should ask the top 20.000 of people with the most games completed. they should have a better indication since they would remember the good ending and forget the Bad endings. Of course not Sony or Microsoft players only. |

Black Ops had a good ending, but I wouldn't say it was the best. It was pretty good, but not the best.
Can't really say what my favorite ending out of that list of games, since I've didn't reach the ending of most of them. But there are some pretty good endings on that list. |

| Moderaters, we need to create a poll on this website for the best video game ending. Black Ops and World at War had my favorite endings out of CoD, but they wouldn't even break my top 50. A poll on this website requiring you to sign in to prevent multiple votes would be much more accurate. Try and get ps3trophies.org to help out too. |

| For this to be an accurate poll the people would have had to play more games than just CoD. I'm convinced this poll is completely inaccurate. CoD shouldn't even be in the top 50 game endings of all time. It's a disservice. |

While it may be a poll what you don't get that just about everyone else does is that this is in no way shape or form an accurate method of deducing the best endings, also anther concept you do not get is that the people conducting the polls are just as mindless as the people who gave their input are ignorant of quality endings. |
