Ridge Racer: Unbounded

Ridge Racer: Unbounded Dev Diary Goes to the Dark Side
Written Wednesday, February 08, 2012 By Richard Walker

If all of the Ridge Racer titles to date, with their azure blue skies and palm trees have been the light side of the arcade racing series, then Ridge Racer: Unbounded is the dark side, says Bugbear Entertainment in this new 'Behind the Game' developer diary, which sees the developer heading to Finland's Kouvola racetrack for some drifting.

In the new video, some of the folks from Bugbear talk about working on the Ridge Racer franchise, exploring the darker route they're taking with the game. They also talk about the track creation system that will enable you to build your very own city course snaking through Unbounded's Shatter City, which is likened to Brio, the wooden train set.

I loved Brio as a kid, so that sounds great. There's more insight into Ridge Racer: Unbounded in the new Behind the Game video entitled 'Deal With It' for some reason, and 20 new screenshots in the gallery. Ridge Racer: Unbounded is out on March 6th in North America and March 2nd in Europe.

I prefer racing games, but there aren't enough free roam games on the market. Only TDU Midnight club La and like Driver and burnout. Waaaay to few if you ask me

Maybe this can satisfy the Split Second it. I'm sure it can, but we'll see.

@6

Just wait for the next press conference when they announce this one. They will have to smear on the Christian Bale Batman voice since it's now a "dark" Ridge Racer.

"It is vengeance. It is the night. IT IS: RIIIIIDGE RACEEEERRR!"

The series lost its way after revolution (I never played rage racer, so I can't comment on that), when they changed the entire style of the game, morphing it into just another generic racing game

Now don't get me wrong, it was exactly that when it was first released, but, it was generic arcade racing, when there wasn't much like it, now they've adopted most ideas from every other game, like need for speed and burnout did, and now all of them look feel and play the same, we don't need this at all

Might as well sell the franchise to ea and give them a 3rd version of burnout, tired of the industry doing this, it happened with the FPS genre, and its going through all genres, until were left with an almost infinite number of the exact same game

I remember playing Ridge Racer on the Playstation and it is one of my favourite racing games of all time. So I am looking forward to this game and I hope its as good as it was.

@3 I've already played a demo and it's awesome. Not a massive fan of racers, but I'll be getting this as soon as it releases.

When I saw it was BugBear who's making it, I had to pop in Flatout: Utlimate Carnage. Never realized how good that game really is

This looks fun, but I can only race so much, Having played The Run a lot (which I greatly enjoyed, unlike many others) and still having unonepened Forza4 I will pass on this...

They need to release a demo for this ASAP.

It seems like a blending of Ridge Racer and Burnout, now I love both series but I can't think how they'd combine well.
