In a strange turn of events, it appears that this week will see an additional Xbox Live Arcade title, as Konami has posted on its Facebook page that The Simpsons Arcade Game will be heading onto the Marketplace on Friday, well ahead of the airing of The Simpsons 500th episode on Sunday, February 19th.

The 1991 arcade classic will be coming to XBLA, complete with four-player co-op play, just like the old coin-op game, as well as challenging new modes and a raft of bonus content.

The Simpsons Arcade Game will apparently be launching on the Xbox Live Arcade from February 3rd for 800 Microsoft Points. Woo hoo! EDIT: It's worth noting that The Simpsons Arcade Game is probably more likely to be out on February 8th, as per the established XBLA release pattern. We'll wait and see...

  • Its a long game when standing in an arcade. Sitting in a chair and pounding faces with Homer is going to be sweet.
  • WOW holy nostalgia! Amazing news!
  • @4 - I think I usually made it to about the second boss. Never came close to beating it.
  • 800 msp seems kinda steep for a 21 year old game. I played the game again about 5 years ago & it didnt hold up so well.
  • @24 Think I only ever beat the first boss if any.......wonder how far the trial will go
  • Trying is the first step to failure.--HOMER SIMPSON
  • FINALLY :P been waiting for this since the day it was first rumoured
  • Almost every Simpsons game is terrible.
  • God I can remember signing an online petition years ago for this game and now finally the day has come!!!!
  • CRAP there goes Friday night. This will be awesome though
  • I remember using up lots of quarters at my local arcade playing this..
  • Lol I say we lynch #2 and #9.
  • Ah yes... and on a Friday too! Years ago when this came out, I discovered it on a Friday night at the local arcade... this Friday night I get to rediscover it with a nice glass of whiskey... should be a lot of fun this Friday night on Xbox Live too!
  • Purple monkey dishwasher
  • If only this was Bart's Nightmare! Damn. Will still probably pick this up though.
  • Just waiting on my tax check so I can pick me up a butt load of MS Points.
  • OMG!!!!! I can't wait to play this again... I used up so many quarters on continues to beat the game and now I'm going to play it again, yeay!!!!!!!
  • now all we need is Captain America and the Avengers and the Trifecta will be complete with Simpsons and TMNT 1989 respectively
  • At least you guys point out it will most likely be Wednesday unlike other sites I have seen this news on! All just state Friday when its been established Wednesday is XBLA Day... Never seen a game come out before then even if it was said to.
  • @41- lol, what?
  • i remember going over to the comic book shop just to play this game and altered beast. ahh memories
  • If only they'd release the classic Robocop arcade game...I can only wait and hope!
  • nice! what much??????
  • Can't wait! I want more of these old co-op arcade games. AVP, Aliens, Avengers, spider man, sunset riders, punisher, etc. I spent so many quarters on these games back in the day. Also, team ninja please put out the old NES Ninja Gaiden games.
  • I still have no idea why this is going to be released on a friday. XBLA games have always been released on wednesdays. I hope this is the only time they release an arcade game on any day other than wednesdays. Otherwise it might get missed by some.
  • @#33 I'm always up for a good lynching! Can we add #41?
  • Who would downvote my comment? I said nothing wrong. I guess this community is as immature as COD's. Where are all the adults on here?
  • I never got the chance to play this game back in the day. Am looking forward to it.
  • YaY !
  • i played this on mame. i don't think it's worth 800 ms points!! maybe half
  • Can't wait, give us Virtual Bart and Bart's Nightmare too, I need to beat those as well!
  • Dropped Massive quarters in this at the arcade, beyond awesome this is coming on XBA
  • Ohhh the wonderful nostalgia :)
  • Years in the Remaking
  • I was on holiday in 92 when I stumbled across a Simpsons cabinet. It had glitched and had 99 credits in it. I completed the game with just 1 credit left. I don't remember much about the game, but I remember A) it was hard B) I was on a lads weekend in pontins C) it took me so long to complete that by the time I got to the bar, they were already hammered. D) none of them were gamers so regaling them with my 99 credits/finishing the game story was of any interest E) I eventually got hammered anyway. This may be why I don't remember much of the game 20 years on and I'll be playing it with my two sons. How times change.
  • @57 I felt the need to sign in and say "Awww" at the end of your story. So yeah.. Awwwww. I have a 2 year old daughter i can't wait for her to be a little older so i can enjoy playing games with her :)
  • Am I the only one that would LOVE Krustys Super Funhouse on XBLA!!!
  • Oh boy. Another boring as hell side scrolling beat-em up, this one only notable because it's got the Simpsons (who are now also boring as hell) in it.
  • 800msp isn't even a fraction of what I spent on this game in the arcade so I'd say it's well worth it.
  • They didn't even bother promoting this game so probably, it will be shit.
  • Seriously guys, make sure you play the trial first. A lot of you are going to be diappointed if you just download it anyway due to your nostalgia. It hasn't held up well, and is totally outdated in the Simpsons universe (though with the quality of the new episodes, thats not a bad thing) I expect a lot of buyers remorse for this game - you have been warned!!
  • @#62 - Why would they need to promote an old Arcade title? The dashboard's gonna shove it in your face anyway. I feel like there's little to no reason to even promote XBLA titles for the most part. I can't remember the last time I saw big promotion for any other than the House Party this month.
  • Besides X-men Arcade one of the greatest arcade multiplayer titles ever made! :D
  • SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
  • I'm definetly getting this on Friday. One of my favourite coin op games ever.
  • Really is about time- great game for fans of the show or not!
  • Even though I have the money, I might go round to my Parents House to borrow some to get it just like old times when they must have had to remortage the house to fund my addiction to this game when we went away on holiday in the early 90s lol.
  • Hello work, im not going to be available friday, awwwwwww yea!
  • Goodbye MAME, you are no longer needed. :)
  • as 71, same here. loved this game when I was a kid and still got my kicks every now and again playing it on mame.
  • does anyone know for sure if its fri or wed yet?..
  • @73 no Can't wait whether it's tomorrow or Wednesday =D
  • @39 There's already a TMNT game in the Marketplace. The 1989 version of it. Get it man! This definitely came sooner....WAY sooner than I expected. All the more fun for me. Now I can finally beat this game. I was 10 in '92 and this game was one of the ones that I couldn't beat due to shortage of quarters. LOL
  • I've already commented, but frankly it concerns me how many people think this game is good. It's not. This game is beyond terrible, it's like "terrible: the next generation." When the last Simpsons game came out, the producers and writers admitted that they hadn't put much thought/effort into previous games, obviously including this one. I have two words for you: buyers remorse. Save your dough for "I Am Alive."
  • @76 eat my shorts
  • The Konami trifecta is complete. Astounding news. Now just waiting on I Am Alive.
  • Burns is going down... nice to finally be able to play this game on a home console after the 20year wait! I just hope you get plenty of credits because I remember just how many I used on the last couple of boss fights! ;)
  • SWEET!!! Been wanting this to be released for so long now!
  • Facts: The Genesis/SNES would not have been capable of an accurate port of this game. People who made the last Simpsons game had nothing to do with this game so their comments about their previous games sucking don't apply to this. This game is fun, some people may be over-nostalgic about it. It is very simple compared to other beat 'em ups like AvP or Streets of Rage, but this is still amongst the best of the more simplistic beat 'em ups with a focus on lots of players on screen.
  • @81 I disagree. The SNES versions of Knights of the Round and The King of Dragons were pretty faithful to the arcade versions. Final Fight SNES sucked, but that's because it was rushed and censored. The only thing a SNES version of the Simpsons i'd expect being downgraded on a significant level would be going from 4-players to 2-players. The SNES has some of the best 2D brawlers I've ever played on it. Check out The Ninja Warriors.
  • oh yeah!!
  • Just remember how much money I Spent in this awesome game :D
  • Its 800 points so fuck that.
  • Can't wait to play this!
  • 800msp? I don't think so. Retro classics are cool, but this is worth 400msp at best. On other hand I would gladly pay 1200msp for an HD remake of this=)
  • Now I know why gamers are just stupid, Immature, childish fucks. This community might as well be called Romper Room..
  • @81 um, Matt Groening wasn't a producer when this arcade... thing... was out? Is he not still a producer? Don't tell me my business again.
  • @89 Have you even played this game? Or did you have no friends in the arcade to play with, thus making it too hard for you? Konami hasn't had the Simpsons license aside from this game I believe, so the makers of the last game had shit to do with this one. Do you think Groening actually writes the games? He puts his name on it and lets Simpsons name get used, and helps fund it a bit. That's what a producer does. I have producer credits on a few movies, but I didnt have a say in the direction said movie takes. That boils down to the company making the game, and since EA has been doing Simpsons games since PS1 or so, blame them for the shitty games that have come out since then. You can piss on this game all you want, to each their own, but you arent going to change anyones mind that wants to play this game again with friends without having to plug quarters in a slot. And seeing as to how this game got a 72 on metacritic for ios version, Im sure one running on a better gaming system with online multiplayer will score better than the "beyond terrible" game you claim it is.
  • @90 my friends and i played sports, we didn't hang out in the arcade and play bad video games. Producer credits on a few movies? Direct to dvd doesn't count. I mean, you can try to sound like the smartest guy in the room, but it was a joint interview with Matt Groening and a couple of writers on the show, who wrote the newest game. They admitted that they hadn't had any thought or input on the last games and this was the first good one, by proxy they're saying this arcade game was a mistake, like you were.
  • Don't mind #90. He is always like that. OT: This game is, and always has been, garbage.
  • Wtf are you talking about trolling monkey? I barely post on this damn site, unlike you posting under everything to say "this sucks" I didnt say they were great movies, just telling you what a producer does. The newest game, which was good, was written by groening and ONE OTHER PERSON? Who had nothing to do with a simpsons game ever. Closest he was to simpsons was "assistant to producers", which like your low income job at mcdonalds or wherever means "goon who gets us food and does trivial tasks for us." Research is your friend. The main point is you pretty much admitted you never played the game...so what the fuck do you know?
