The public beta for Gotham City Imposters is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, publisher Warner Bros. has announced.

The Batman-inspired, team-based multiplayer shooter, featuring various ragtag impersonations of Bats and Mr J, offers up a bunch of cool customisation tools, allowing you to tinker with your weapons and your look. You can get a glimpse of that in the new trailer released alongside the announcement.

Those who wish to join the beta – which has been running in a closed capacity for a while now – should swing over to gothamcitymposters.com to grab a beta key. The game itself is out next month on Xbox Live. Trailer's below.

  • I have "Bane" is my ID. I have to play this game.
  • this looks so great. Hopefully the beta can hold me over until the real game comes out
  • People who do the whole "furst" crap should be temp banned. Anyway, I've been playing this for a few weeks now and it's a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be. There are a few things that need tweaking though...
  • From the trailer it looks like they've added a few new maps, maps which didn't appear in the closed beta. Awesome!
  • @4 mad he wasn't first
  • I thought those that bought Arkham City were allowed early access or something. Did I miss that or something?
  • Is this like TF2 and is this a full game or a arcade game? On Topic: this game does look good. Joker type character will be my choice.
  • Sorry for double posting but I didn't realise the achievements were out so I now know it's a arcade game.
  • @4 Few weeks? On what platform? I signed up for the beta, here's hoping I get selected.
  • Open for all? The beta page just says "Thanks for your interest". I signed up on day 1 of the beta openings, and also added my code from Arkham City but still never got in.
  • @lucifonz thats what i did and i heard nothing back
  • Thanks for the info. I'm signing up now.
  • I signed up when Arkham city came out, no invite and can't get anything when I clck beta
  • @11,12&14 Same here! This is about the third time i thought i was gonna get the beta and was denied. Is it because they know I'm gonna buy it either way?
  • 30 mins after posting - just checked my e-mails guys and whaddya know they just sent my a key 3 minutes ago!
  • Cool :)
  • I signed up when Arkham City came out and got nothing. Signed up again this morning and I got a code.
  • Check your email people
  • I tried to sign up when the beta was closed, but I didn't make it. I checked my e-mail after reading this article and the comments, and I found a beta code waiting. I redeemed it and will be playing the beta later tonight.
  • Anyone that entered their code from Arkham City will get exclusive in game content for this game, it wasn't an early access for the beta or even a beta code. Anyways this game is one of the funnest games out right now and I love it.
  • Signed up when I got Arkham and still nothing.. their site is garbage!
  • So is it just me, or is this pretty much un-playable due to the horible frame rate?
  • hopefully I get an email. Signed up about 2 hours ago and still waiting... :-(
  • Wow go figure.. I complain on here and no sooner than I do, they send me the invite to my email.. it's as if they're knowingly being stupid and just watching these threads till we flip out..
  • After trying a handful of times to get in to the previous betas and thinking I would just have to wait until the full release I randomly received an email today with my key. Outstanding! Can't wait to fire this up tonight! -foot
  • Its if you get chosen thing.........
  • tried to register for WBID, got to the password part, typed it in etc and fully registered then it came up with an internal error. Tried registering again, typed my email, DOB and accepted the ToS & privacy policy, clicked submit, then the page reset, leaving only my email address on the page.... wtf is going on??? :|
  • @28: Same thing happened to me. What is happening is a terrible user experience and they need to hire some code testers to make sure bullshit like this doesn't happen.
  • @29 yep, what a great way to promote an open beta with a broken registration form!
  • Maybe now I can see what all the hype is about now
  • I love how I applied for the PC beta and they send me a code for the console beta. F U gotham city imposter developers!lol
  • Are there any differences between the public beta and the closed beta? I experienced some really laggy games. I'm sure the final product will fix the issues, but I'll pass on any more beta if it's still as unstable. :/
  • @33 hopefully it's nothing like the lag from the BF3 open beta *twitch*
  • @34 I know the issues have been resolved for BF3 in the final release, but that beta completely turned me off from buying BF3 day one. I ended up renting it and even paying for an online pass to play with some friends. I enjoyed it a lot. But that beta left a bad taste in my mouth. Keep in mind I'm a lot more forgiving with a $15 downloadable to a $60 retail game.
  • Lee, you do realize you misspelled "Impostors" twice, right? And even spelled it wrong in the URL.
  • I signed up for this when it literally was first mentioned last year and I heard NOTHING about it. Checked Kotaku today, they mentioned how it was out and I raged, but checked my e-mail anyway, and go figure, I got my e-mail NOW. Doesn't make any sense. From what I played so far, I heard lots of audio problems inconsistencies, but I have to see if that was supposed to be that way or what when I play again. Also got stuck in an unfair match where the Batz team only had me and one other person, while the Jokerz team was full of people all standing on a roof shooting at us making it literally impossible to win. It was the worst thing ever.
  • @35 I still bought BF3 and mind you it was AU$110 here on release day, if I only had to give up US$60, I'd be much happier! :P
  • @38 It's ridiculous how much more games cost in other countries compared to the American dollar.
  • Anyone who tried singing up on the WBid site, you're wasting your time. I was a member of that for months before the game was announced and I added my code from Arkham City, still didn't help. Keep your eyes peeled for GameSpot giving away beta codes, that's how I got my one for the first closed beta months ago.
  • I signed up when I first got Arkham City the first week it came out, checked my spam this morning and it was in there :P
  • The videos looked great, to bad the game SUCKS!
  • http://d12.parature.com/link/portal/24018/24023/Article/8/I-bought-Batman-Arkham-City-and-the-included-Impostors-beta-code-does-not-work This explains everything, it was a mistake and nobody was entitled to beta access through their arkham city code.
  • Lee, you need to go back to school mate, this is 2nd mistake in 2 days! Just signed up for my Beta, going to be blasting on this tonight if i get a code!
  • My WBID stills say "Thank you for applying to be part of the beta! We will email you if you are selected." I applied last week and no code for me. :(
  • Yeah mos def not open to all... You have to wait for a key to play after you register...
  • You need to register before being able to post comments
