| Good. While they would have done some good, there was just too much wrong with these bills. Though IMO the biggest problem with both of these wasn't even what they would do, but that this was the US Government trying to pass bills that effect the entire world without even talking to the other countries Governments about it first. If these had been allowed to pass it would make the US Government even more big headed than it already is, they already "think" they rule the world, we shouldn't allow them to pass bills that can cripple the rest of us. |

| This is a small victory of the Free Peoples of the Internet. In my eyes the events yesterday surrounding Megaupload and Anonymous's retaliation is basically a declaration of war. I just hope the US Government is smart enough to recognize that a small group of hackers did this and the amount of damage that could happen if a bigger assault took place. But if I know my government as well as I think I do all this means is they'll bump up security and vigilance. Not good. |

So...democracy isn't quite dead yet here in America huh? Glad to hear it. If these had passed, I'd officially declare democracy dead and the USA no longer the greatest place to live. Especially considering many political figures are on record as saying "we have no idea what these bills do, I don't understand these, I'm not a nerd, someone bring in the nerds to explain". I thought the people we elected were supposed to be smart, not just rich white elitists. Considering more than 5 of these politicians suggested bringing in "nerds" or commented that they were NOT "nerds" on television, I think they should all be removed from office. Especially the ones who said "I don't understand these laws, but from the brief summary I was given they sound good!" I still think we should have a weekly election. Someone isn't doing their job, boom they're gone next week. Maybe then elected officials will actually do what they claim to believe in, instead of telling voters what they want to hear and then changing their ideals once elected. |

卐OPA and PIPA have no place in a free society. They effectively end free speech. It's amazing to me that I haven't found a single person (besides corrupt politicians) who is FOR these bills and yet we still have to fight so hard to push them back. Why isn't something like this - that greatly affects human rights - put up to a popular vote? Why do we have a bunch of musky old fart bags who know nothing about the Internet making policy for all of us? |

While I absolutely despise discussing politics on the Internet, I'm glad that SOPA and PIPA are in a coma. However, like #39 posted, I always had a very strong feeling that the bipartisan group who introduced both bills (SOPA by a Republican, PIPA by a Democrat) intended this to be a noisy red herring. Bills have a way of being reborn in carefully-reworded forms that no one really seems to notice. Politics is the dirtiest game around regardless of what flag is flying, and the vast majority of politicians everywhere regardless of party affiliation are happy with most of the citizens wandering around like sheep who feel powerless to change things. -sighs- Okay, I'm done. |

| If you ask me, MegaUpload was shut down because it was setting up a digital distribution platform for artists where they could sell their works and reap 90% of the sale value, instead of the measly few percentages they get through the media mafia. Something that would make the RIAA crap itself if it went through. |

You guys should know that there is a much worse threat than SOPA and PIPA, yes it is great it has been stopped but the world is now threatened by ACTA. I will not explain the details here as the post would be far to large but if you really want to help save the internet (again) then go here: http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/oquda/internet_listen_up_acta_is_scarier_than_both_pipa/ Good luck guys and keep the fight up. |
