Modern Warfare 3's First DLC Dated For January

Activision and Infinity Ward are gearing up to release the first dose of downloadable content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with Call of Duty: Elite subscribers on Xbox Live to be the first to get their hands on whatever that add-on might be in January 2012. Infinity Ward has yet to reveal what form the Modern Warfare 3 DLC will take, but our money's on map packs.

That said, Infinity Ward's Creative Strategist, Rob Bowling has stated that Modern Warfare 3's DLC will actually be somewhat more varied than usual, confirming that Sledgehammer and Raven Software are working alongside Infinity Ward in delivering new content, including new missions for Spec Ops mode.

"The way we're doing downloadable content this year is unlike we've ever done before," said Bowling. "Not only in how you can get it - in content drops or choose for the collection - but also the type of content you're getting. We're doing more than just maps. We're going to do Spec Ops missions and a variety of things that players have never seen before.

"That's the great thing about having three developers that are contributing to the season of content. You have Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer and Raven all pitching in," Bowling added. "The full season of content for Modern Warfare 3 kicks off for Elite subscribers on January 24 on Xbox Live."

Infinity Ward and Activision have yet to reveal a date for when Modern Warfare 3's DLC will be widely available, but we can't imagine it'll be too long after Elite subs are able to snap it up on January 24th, 2012.

  • "unlike we've never done before" What?
  • (Yawn)
  • hopefully get some more spec ops missions and achievements, love spec ops
  • looking forward to the next 19 DLCs
  • Hmmm....What is content drop or choose collection? Sounds like some naff business model. You can either download it as its available or wait for the whole dlc package to release. Surely they no not to use jargon to people who don't have a clue! Speak to me in a language i know Bowling, and not jargon you folks at acti have made up! What about the rumoured cod4/mw2 map pack and the rumour about an xmas dlc?
  • bore off!
  • i don't think activision has the creative mind to ever do something i have never seen before
  • Lets hope they fix dying around corners and come up with some good maps for a change.
  • You gotta hand it to these guys, they know how to make money. No more for me Activision, thanks.
  • Can't wait for January 24th then :)
  • @1 he said "EVER before". Anyway, glad to see they are releasing Spec Ops missions. They claimed they would for MW2 and never did. I still regret buying Elite, but at least there is the possibility of new achievements now.
  • It's bound to be more spec ops missions aswell as multiplayer, which is pretty sweet =] Can't complain!
  • who cares mw3 sucks, such a dissapointing game
  • Don't really care what anybody says, I love spec ops! if there's enough extra missions I'll definitely get on this.
  • Obligatory negative comment with many thumbs Down
  • "Unlike they've never done before" They've done map packs in all call of duty games, so something they haven't done before is no map packs.
  • Anyone coming on this thread to say "MW3 Sucks" or "Who cares" or anything like that are pathetic childish fucking twats who buy into the whole "it's cool to hate on Call of Duty because it's such a huge game and I'm indie as fuck" and should not be allowed near the internet never mind a PC. You don't like it, we get it. I'm not a HUGE fan i'm level 37 online because I hardly ever play it, but I've got better things to do than 'troll' and I'm happy to read any news regarding the game. Now, kindly fuck off and leave us to it.
  • @17 Yo dawg I herd u dont like haters so ima hate on your hating.
  • @17 Who cares, MW3 sucks ;p
  • @19 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA , that was awesome. P.s with so many DLC 's planed for this recycled game, i wonder if DLC 's for this game will clash with "Call of duty Space invaders" coming summer of 2012.
  • about fucking time !
  • @19 very good. Nah, like I said, I'm not a fanboy - I agree it's a recycled game, and I agree they re-use and charge way to much for DLC. I'm just sick of EVERY thread involving MW3 being clogged up with comments like that. Same with Battlefield. "Oh, MW3 is better." It gets old, man
  • wow,all the people coming on here to say how much they hate Call of Duty here's an idea,if you don't like the game why are you even interested in this topic?,i don't go into topics of games i don't like to announce how crap that game is
  • waste of money! COD is nothing more than a cash cow for activision. why drop one every year your over staying your welcome, and u only give 2 packs of dlc waste of money. Elite is nothing more than battlelog and waypoint except they want money but they'll never fix the lobbies and the crapy host connection. theres many flaw with COD its a decent shooter but counter strike clocks more players on there servers than COD. If COD is awesome then why is SKYRIM GOTY then!!!!
  • Specs ops No thanks, and if the MP maps are as bad as the current one then definitely no thanks, @23 and people are interested in speaking because they're putting their ideas and opinions out there.
  • I'm still waiting for Call of Duty Carebear invasion
  • New guns would be nice.
  • New Specs Ops is all I wanted for MW2...maybe I will upgrade my Elite.
  • @17 why are you so mad
  • 'chievements?
  • Activision doing something new... LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOL
  • If there aren't achievements, I'm not buying them. You would think Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer/Raven would have learned that by now.
  • COD= ACtivisons CASH COW! another one every year only is robbing the series of its greatness!
  • I would pay for this if Robert Bowling got Tea-Bagged on the VGA's. But he ran away. Like a coward. To a room full of cash from his DLC earnings. Bastard.
  • Doesn't matter what it is, it's gonna be a rip off that costs everybody $15 in msp. Like ALL CoD DLC! Let the sheep give them more money. They still haven't got a dime from me.
  • "unlike we've ever done before" Is this what CoD players want? Thanks for saying this after a million people put out $50 thinking they're getting a ton of maps. I don't play CoD but i predict at least a few angry birds.
  • @17, U Mad Bro?
  • i dont want to pay $50 for elite if it means i get stuck with content i dont want. then again it's not as horrible as the Batman challenge maps. the Catwoman content was actually enjoyable. anyways, the current FPS theme looks like classic map packs between Halo,Battlefield,Gears and i assume CoD at some point will do it again.
  • @32 they haven't learnt that because people buy MW DLC by the bucket load and they never had achievements before. Also most people have already got Elite, so why should they waste their time adding achievements if they've already sold the DLC. I'm sure you not buying them will make a massive dent in their profits.
  • hopefully it will not add achievements as i already have the 1000, hopefully it will add all the game modes you can play (ie, modes that are only playable in private match right now)
  • @38 It's not about being cheap. Sure, I have a measly $15 to spend on DLC, but that doesn't mean I will be getting my moneys worth buying that DLC. Look at the maps for MW2. 1200 msp for 5 frickin maps; two of which were recycled maps from a previous game. I mean it's just ridiculous. Especially when other devs out there are releasing so much more content for LESS!
  • @7 - Strange, seeing as Infinity Ward brought us, what is still seen as the best FPS ever, Call of Duty 4, you may not like MW2, you may not like MW3, and you may not like Black Ops, but COD4 is without a doubt, the game which made FPS' what they are now.
  • @29 and @37. nope not mad, probably a little over the top looking back at my comment haha. It just reaaaaaallllly grinds my gears when people do this it's gone on all year. I mean sure, people don't like it thats cool, and i'm game for a discussion if people want to give an opinion as WHY its bad (yes, the people saying its a cash cow/rip off/recycled game all have a point) but a lot of people don't, they simple come on these pages JUST to leave pointless stuff and it gets old really quickly. Not mad, just don't see the point. People should just let people play what they want and get on with what they want to play.
  • @17 I totally agree. I don't even have the game, I mainly come on these posts to have a good laugh at the butt-hurt fanboys and/or hipsters raging. Always provides some comedy :P If CoD being the same annoys you people so much, I really suggest you go out and get a hobby, because this is a trivial issue.
  • Thank god. The default maps are getting old.
  • MW 3 is crap enough to be said. Look forward to Skyrim DLCs most into 2012. I will never ever buy MW 3 DLCs because MW 3 is too much repetitive and boredom as well recycle version. Activision, I will not buy DLCs for MW 3 from you but I am able buy next COD game for just achievement. But if you allow for next COD will be 2 years or 3 years then of course I give you chance but not keep recycle release in yearly!!
  • lame. mw3 sucks ass
  • i'd rather pay to have my balls ran over by ice skates than give activision any of my money.
  • @ 50 I would love to see you scream in pain, then point and laugh at your mangled ballsack.
  • Come on January 24th
  • @44, the people who come on here and blast cod really cant be reasoned with , there is no point trying, cod fans love cod ,battlefield fans love to hate cod. funny really i dont hate battlefield , i just hate battlefield players.
  • i hope for chievies
  • Weapon dlc's? If anyone remembers, before the game came out,Robert Bowling announced that both the mp5 and mp5-k would be in the game...... Yet only the standard mp5 is... Teaser anyone??
  • cant wait to pay 50 bucks for new DLC!
  • I wanted MW2 to have Spec Ops DLC. I thought they were missing out on something great. Glad to see they are doing that now.
  • I truly was disappointed with this game. Granted that I went out to get the Hardened Edition to save the $10 on DLC because all my friends would have and be playing it is about the only reason I'll play around this time. Clan challenges aren't even live yet and they want to charge $50 for Elite. All I see is a plea for money here. If the content truly is so unique and unlike anything else then I'll play again, but they said that about the game itself before it came out and I'm still struggling to see the differences between MW3 and MW2
  • I really wish they would give you options for the packs. I don't want to pay for spec ops maps I'll never use so why not let me buy a separate map pack. I'd love to see story DLC but that will never happen lol.
  • i have to be very honest,mw3 was the biggest let down of all time for me pesonally.thank god i traded it in same week as release and got nearly same money back.To all the people who havent got it i would wait till its £15 to £20 cause its def not worth anything above that.
  • Wait, a dlc getting dlc?
  • I'll take any map packs with achievements.
  • good the new maps haven't been very well thought out
  • FREE or pass not into this bullshit no more.
  • Nice comment section is filled with poor people :) About time i get my dlc
  • Can't wait to buy this DLC for the five copies i bought! woo! gonna have this DLC on 4 xbox's and a PS3! Love me some map packs! WOO!
  • @17 - You come on here to call everyone childish but then you follow it up with name calling. Great way to attempt an intelligent conversation. Now you know why people can't stand CoD fan boys. You're all alike...
  • I'm sorry I spent the initial 60 on this piece of crap, but I find comfort in knowing that MW3 completely screwed CoD for me. This was my last CoD game, ever.
  • NO ACHIEVEMENTS, NO BUY. SIMPLE AS THAT
  • Like wev never seen b4?....does that mean they will charge us again?
  • @69 it's not that serious dude. @38 it's got nothing to do with being cheap it called spending money wisely.
  • i must troll on call of duty cuz i love my respective game so much that i dont play it and only troll on cod
  • @50 I doubt it........... highly
  • Insert stereotypical comment about how Call of Duty sucks in an attempt to get thumbs up
  • @74 that jokes been made like 5 times. Nice try but a little late..
  • No matter what Call of Duty 4 will always remain number 1 in FPS's as that truly began the FPS business tbh. OT. Might buy maps maybeh probs not as barely play anyways. More than one perk and new guns in survival is welcome though :)
  • Call of Duty : Barbie Dreamhouse In this version of Call of Duty, players get to dive into the amazing world of Barbie and have to work together to save the world and more importantly, the girls, from the evil Ken and his terrorist thugs. How will they do it? You decide!
  • I used to play Call of Duty, until I took an arrow to the knee.
  • The first map is called 'Park' theirs a picture of it in fourzerotwo's twitter
  • @67 I wouldn't say I am a cod fanboy because I play a lot of different games, but I do enjoy call of duty. Although I don't agree with @17's name calling, it is stupid that everyone who doesn't like call of duty feels the need to come on every call of duty thread to say how much they hate it. Everyone just talks shit about the series, even though it is successful. And to that they say "It is all just a bunch of little kids" and although there is, so is there for battlefield 3. A lot of adults buy call of duty too. I really like MW3, sure the campaign was super short, but I haven't heard many good things about Battlefield 3's campaign either. Spec ops/survival mode is awesome, and multiplayer is fun (although I do miss the some of the maps from MW2 like Afghan and Wasteland).
  • The way I see it they will cater to all the whiners - split game modes for purchase separately or put in one nice bundle with small discount. We could never hear the end of ppl whining that they don't want to pay for zombie maps, but want MP maps and vice versa, so hopefully this will satisfy almost everyone (we know that hypocrits will always find things to complain about...)=)
  • I'm concerned about how much Mr Bowling is going to be able to honor this especially with ANOTHER COD game coming out next year. How soon before these games start stepping on each other? Maybe I want to play MW3 but all my friends want to play whatever the new COD game is. I feel like one of these is going to trump the other, and I'm willing to bet that the "new" COD game will trump MW3 and whatever DLC is released for it
  • Modern Warfare 2.8 lol
  • Are there going ot be new achievements? I 100% that game and then sold it so If I dont get my 100% because of some stupid dlc im gonna be pissed lol
  • lol it releases on my birthday:) epic win!
  • Still need to figure out how to apply my Founder stastus. . . stupid server is still acting stupid.
  • cant wait
  • $60 for the game. $50 for their bullshit shitty service. $15 (?) for the first DLC. Probably $15/ea. for the next 2 - 12 DLC's this year.. And fans still don't see why Activision is the greediest fucking pile of shit developer around? Here, pay us $200 + to play our shitty game with the formula that was cool 5 years ago but we haven't really touched since.
  • I wonder if any of these maps are going to encourage different tactics cos all the maps we have at the moment are for running and gunning, unless you play hardcore then they encourage camping...I miss Bloc and Creek from CoD4 a map that was designewd for real sniping not stupid quick scopers!!
  • @67, congratulations. You managed to read my post and pick out things and completely ignore the rest. How about we talk about the fact that in a later post I said, okay maybe I got carried away? Or how about the part where I said I wasn't a fan boy and in fact hardly played on it. Did you enjoy the part where I said it was more about people coming on here to here to have a go at the game, and not about the game itself? Or did you just read the first line and freak out and not bother with the rest? Seriously lad, get a grip. I made a point and it's valid.
  • @67, oh and since you clearly DIDN'T read the rest, check out my comment at #44. Is that to your liking? Peace.
  • @88 I hate call of duty, but I at least know that the dlc is free with elite...
  • @ DanielCooper62. The fact is I did actually read all of it. The point of my post was that you were the inevitable first person to come on here and start calling names while trying to fend off an argument that hadn't even started. I also saw your "apology". Next time just try to start to conversation intelligently first instead of calling names. The part we do agree on is why do people feel the need to come on here and have a swinging dick fight over Call of Duty vs. Battlefield? Any serious gamer that likes playing as well as chasing achievements should be playing and enjoying BOTH. I'm not here to start a giant pissing match as much as I'm just trying to find an actual intelligent conversation as to what we all do and don't like. I don't mean to group everyone that enjoys CoD into the fanboy group but you very rarely see someone actually saying what they enjoy about it and instead they just trash every other game out there...
  • ppl coming in here to bash cod are pathetic lol. Dont you have soemthing better to do like play ur shit game? CoD = #1
  • @93 i rarely ever see a cod fanboy bashing other games. Its all the other fanboys bashing cod cuz its the most popular game and that is why the bash it. They are butt hurt their game isnt doing as good.
  • @93, alright fair point. Yes we do agree, and I too would prefer to actually talk about the game with other people rather than stupid stuff and that's what annoys me. Yes, the name calling may have been unnecessary.
  • skyrim for the nords!
  • I used to care about DLC for COD games, but then I took a ballistic knife to the knee.
  • Who wants to bet they'll raise the price to $20? xD
  • lol @ folks who only want achievements, not all games are built around achievements to have fun with. quite frankly a lot of games are far worse than cod series, achievement wise, fun factor wise, as with less replayability and challenges. granted its a bit of a clone of mw2 sorta, but i'm pretty sure ppl play and spend time on the game as mw3, because that's just how they have fun, but it seems ppl want to complain, rather, constantly, and gripe about things with it, in the end its just pretty annoying and pointless. you either like the game or not, but how far your going to cry over it...that's on you.
  • what i really like in mw3, the spec ops co-op, some horde mode equivalent feature - survival, watching videos my friends make, they have a nice theater mode that allows you to watch like the previous 20-30 fights or matches you had online, so montage videos to look back on and share, always a plus, i had to take a couple breaks from the campaign, the action and the mtn dew kept my pulse up way high, was like an over clock on the senses, the mw3 headset has a feature for the campaign, it feels like the tank your driving is in your room, never seen that before, i also have elite, and a hd pvr for uploading videos, so as a die hard on getting the most out of a game, this game just keeps feeding me new things; granted thats mostly with online play
  • I'm a big fan of the COD series, but the MP in MW3 was such a let down for me I just smashed the achievements for the 1000GS, and sold it for £30 so I only lost out on £10 over a month, time to buy WP7 games! me thinks.. also black ops is my new fav/old game!! Treyarch I think have finally took over as the team to produce future cods, it's a shame there not doing anymore blops maps!?!
  • Anyone else not buy map packs to do work against the remaining players? Hopefully the map packs arent integrated into regular playlists like CoD 5.....
  • pleases no achievements infinity ward has never had dlc or online achievements so why start now if i would have known they would have had achievements i would have picked up elite
  • 4 PLAYER SPECIAL OPS OT: I will get -1000 downs, but what if Call of Duty and Battlefield teamed up to make a game? Amazing graphics, enhanced gameplay, and new vehicals/weapons/killstreaks. Does anyone else think this would work?
  • @105 COD/Battlefield would work insanely well but it will never happen. The multiplayer would probably end up something similar to homefront's(which isnt a bad thing, i actually liked it). Its all about the money for COD and with the amount theyre making they arent going to suddenly join up with anyone. Im not a COD or Battlefield fan, i like both, but this year BF3 was the better game. Srry.
  • @106 COD MW3 over BF 3 anyday IMHO, but then again i only liked BF 2 on pc
  • They'll probably do what Black Ops should've done with zombies. They'll release the Spec Ops and Maps Packs separately for 800 each or you can pick them both up for 1200, but they'll throw in some achievements linked to the Spec Ops so people will purchase both. GREEDY BASTARDS! D;
  • gay another waste of 1600msp for 5 maps rather spend it on skyrim expansions XD
  • @99 "Who wants to bet they'll raise the price to $20? xD " Where I live they are already $18. As to why people wonder why non-COD players bash COD players, it's because you guys are encouraging a pricing model that completely shafts the customer and if you keep it up, Activision will apply this to other games. Please stop.
  • @3 Please tell me you're joking. That's not even funny.
  • Activision couldn't do something new if there lives depended on it, gonna be some more boring crap as per usual, MW3 is pony.
  • hope there are achievements
  • Long story short: The people on this page are CoD fans or CoD haters, but the one thing both of them share is that they are addicted to the game nonetheless. Lol, fail trolls are fail. What I care about, like Comment #113, are the achievements. There better be some for the 4000 Microsoft points I spent. XD Not that I care about money.
  • hay it could be good or... it could be horibble
  • @43 wtf cod 4 made fps what they are today ? you have to be crapping me right cod 4 was shocking at that point there was many like it if anything cod the 1st made them what they are today and games before that (007 golden eye n64, doom , duke nuken) cod is the same every year cost you loads for game then they charge more for like 3 maps its robbing us blind yet most of us are like a moth to a flame we will all buy them and we hate it and these companys know this thats why they are doing it
