Codemasters' bygone eggy mascot, the prince of the yolk folk, Dizzy will be making a comeback it seems, with the release of a brief teaser video showing a dusty Dizzy box being retrieved from a warehouse shelf.

As well as the teaser trailer, Codies is also set to launch Eggcitingnews.com, which will surely act as a hub for all things Dizzy related. Codemasters' Rich Eddy has confirmed via Twitter that a release date for the Dizzy return AKA "Eggmergence Day" is set to be revealed tomorrow too.

Old-school gamers will remember Dizzy fondly from the 80s, with all manner of titles and spin-offs featuring the egg-shaped hero releasing on the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and others between 1986 and 1993. It'll be nice to see Dizzy back on the scene, bringing jumping eggs back into games once again.

  • Memories!
  • Yes! This needs to happen. My fave was Adventures of Dizzy on the NES. Played that for hundreds of hours. Had all the Commodore 64 games too. That is a release date buy for me! Can't wait :)
  • What about Linus Spacehead?
  • possibly the greatest news this year... as long as they dont mess it up
  • But how would you market an Egg to kids nowadays? Unless you put a red bandana and LMG's in it's arms, cause guns sell to people now.
  • I remember playing Fantastic Dizzy on the Sega Genesis for hours on end. Still to this day one of my favorite games. This is welcome news!
  • Intrigued by this, grew up playing these games as a young kid. I wonder if it will be retail or XBLA style? Either way if done right this could be a great game, on the other hand if done wrong it could ruin the memories for many. Games and gameplay have moved on a lot since Dizzy's heydey but it will be interested to see how this turns out.
  • @5 i dont think they will need to, the adults that played the originals will buy them, and judging by this teaser that's exactly what they are thinking.
  • Stupid gold camerica cartridge never worked right. When it did though I loved this game. I wonder if the items will disappear in the new game when you have too many on the same horizontal plane.
  • EGGcellent
  • Sweet baby Jesus! This is awesome news!
  • I was wondering about the retail/xbla release as well. But will it still be a side scrolling platformer, or will they go for a 3D adventure? Just as long as I get that nostalgic feeling from it. Really cannot wait for this to get released!
  • Game of the decade
  • One word: Yes! Extra words: Hopefully xbla remake of original to show how hard games can be! Never did finish that game!
  • codemasters will screw it up like they do everything else. Name a game they didn't screw up.
  • Next gen Dizzy!!! Please be awesome!
  • WOW!! I have very fond memories of spending many many hours playing the origninal dizzy on the spectrum and the spin offs on the amiga 600!! I am very excited about this! I just hope Codemasters don't mess about with it too much.
  • A hype I´ve never heard of. Might have to do some research on this one. @ 15: For example most of their racing games. Colin McRae? GRID? DTM Race Driver?
  • sweet cant wait! loved these when i was a kid on my speccy
  • Can not wait!
  • Will it need 15 minutes to load, with the inevitable "load error" appearing just before the end?
  • Ah back in the day of the Commodore 64..
  • wow. yahtzee is gonna flip!
  • Noooo, just found out it's a game for iphones, ipads and androids :( Really hope it does well and they port it to XBLA. It's a HD remake of Dizzy Prince of the Yolkfolk.
