Next-Gen Splatterhouse Confirmed!
Next-Gen Splatterhouse Confirmed!
Written Friday, April 25, 2008 by Alan Pettit

Seriously, this franchise was freaking awesome. Crazy buff dude in a hockey mask tackling a giant haunted mansion with only blunt objects to fight off hordes of monsters to save his girlfriend? Such a classic tale of love. One of the greatest beat-em-up games from my youth and one of the better reasons to own a Sega Genesis. Aside from this image on the cover of June's EGM, there is absolutely no information about this game except to expect a "mid 2009" release, but the franchise owner Namco (now Namco Bandai) is a hot company right now with games like Eternal Sonata, Beautiful Katamari and Ace Combat 6 as well as the upcoming Soul Calibur IV and Tales of Vesperia.

Stay tuned for more updates on this, I'll be following its progress closely.

YES!

I loved the Splatterhouse series to death on the Genesis. I really can't see the storyline holding up in a full-on retail game these days, but who knows?

"One of the greatest beat-em-up games from my youth and one of the better reasons to own a Sega Genesis." LMAO you never played this on Genesis because it was on TurboGrafx 16. I still have my TG16 and this game amongst others like Bonks adventure, classic. It will be interesting to see how they put this into next gen. Back in the day it was pure joy to splat the enemies against the wall of the mansion! Oh yeah and the original Splatterhouse is available on the Wii Virtual Console. However the later games in the series were on the Genesis the first was only on the TG16!

Splatterhouse 2 was on the Genesis/Megadrive, therefore it's kind of safe to assume MA5TER 0051 did play a Splatterhouse game on his! Jeez.

Splatterhouse rocked in the day, not sure how they would update this though... Maybe a Suffering style adventure?

Splatterhouse? I remember skipping skool to play this (and St. Dragon) at our local arcade. Even now, I still own the original arcade board (just need to fix my cabinet).

Here's hoping it doesn't turn out like Gauntlet: Dark Legacy and a lot of other 'updated' interpretations of good-olde arcade classics.

Hey flimflamshizzle I was talking about the guyu who wrote the article not master 0051. I also stated that the first game was TG16 and the rest of the games in the series were on Genesis, sucka.

I hate it when people try and be smarmy, he may have not even been talking about the original. I honestly don't see what people gain from being smarmy idiots, no-one cares lakerfan if they did they'd be agreeing with you. Could be cool though, have to wait and see what they try to do with it!

lakersfan/rpgenius... if you'd learn to read, I said this "franchise" was awesome and the games were great on the Genesis. Splatterhouse 2 and 3 both appeared on the Genesis. Are you really that hopeful to make people look stupid that you'll risk looking stupid yourself by attempting to put someone down with video game knowledge? You fail. I win. Quit being a douche.

They should bring back the one where you turned into a werewolf. You just don't see any werewolf games these days.

One of my favorite games back in the day. VERY much looking forward to this. It's too bad they already ported the first one to Wii, so we won't see that on Live Arcade. But maybe the second and/or third can make it someday. I'd love if they just included all the original ones as a bonus with the new game. It's possible, I suppose.

Comparing to Condemned 2 is pretty far off. I'd imagine something that looks a bit like Dead Rising for some reason. My only worry is which half of NamcoBandai is making it. Namco does good stuff, Bandai....

I think the term "Next-Gen" is on verge of becoming rhetoric if it hasn't already.

Don't ask me how much money I blew on Splatterhouse coin-op I bet if I stopped to think about it I would cry.

I played the hell out of this back in the day on the TurboGrafx. Seeing a remake is exciting and frightening at the same time. I hate when past franchises are brought back needlessly and ruined. Here's to hoping for Splatterhouse done right.

I think it would be a good idea to release one of the older games on XBLA to drum up some interest in the series before the release. I can't imagine that too gamers in the 12-16 age bracket have played one of the genesis games.

You son's of biscuit eating bulldogs. I realized that you said the franchise, ballsack, that is why I stated that the rest of the series was on genesis it just strikes me funny that your nutmunching ass took offense to it. So The Pants Party keep my name out your sorry Detroit Lions loving mouth, and you fail for being a sausage jockey Lick my scrotum while I play GTA 4 and you have to wait!

RPGenuis420, you actually managed to depress me. I seriously got depressed reading your comment. That you are our future. You are the future of our race. It was a very very dark and dreary revelation, albeit one I've made many times before.

*sigh*

Lakerfan- You "LYAO" at someone for playing games on a Genesis- which you later go on to say were actually available on the Genesis. So, what exactly are you laughing at?

You were wrong. It happens to the best of us. Deal with it, and apologise to the nice people. It's what us grown-ups call "taking responsibility".

Anyhoo- Splatterhouse! Awesome! I LOVED the second one on the Megadrive (that's what the Genesis was called over here in the UK). Someone earlier on this thread said "Condemne 2 on steroids"- that's SO the way to go with this. Or maybe 3rd person? Hmmm? Ideas?

The next gen version looks promising. I will wait and see.

Oh Shit! Splatterhouse is one of those games I was hoping to get remade but never thought in a bagillion years it would actually happen. The main character looks stupid but I can't wait to see what the new Splatterhouse looks like.
