What does the Xbox One look like?
Designed according to the same aspect ratio as a widescreen TV (16:9) and built to reflect the Metro-style user interface used on the console, the Xbox One features both matte and glass finish sections. It’s black, or more specifically, "liquid black" and it cannot stand up vertically like the Xbox 360. The Xbox logo glows white when the console is on.
Microsoft says: “The design language is visible in Xbox One’s hardware. The console is evenly divided between the matte and gloss – the front in particular clearly reflects this symmetry – and the top brings together two even rectangles, where the vent panel’s edge detail matches the appearance of a selected tile in the user interface.
What does the Xbox One controller look like?
Cosmetically similar in design of the Xbox 360 controller, the Xbox One pad features a number of improvements relating to feedback - with rumble capable of spreading from the centre of the controller all the way out to the trigger buttons - as well as a tweaked directional pad, a flush battery pack and a tightened button layout.
Microsoft says: “Even the wireless controller uses liquid black to enhance visibility. The traditional A, B, X and Y buttons were re-designed so that the colored letters now float on a sea of rich, liquid black, a triple-shot of injected resin, clearly defining their placement on the controller. The dimensions are refined to the closest tenth of a millimeter to ensure the best fit and comfort in gamers’ hands.”
What capabilities does the new Kinect have?
Significantly upgraded, the Xbox One’s Kinect sensor features a 1080p camera with a wide-angle lens and can process 2 gigabits of data per second, all of which will be used to more accurately track movement.
Among Microsoft’s claims are that the new Kinect can track up to six skeletons at once and sense your heart rate. It can also power up the Xbox One from sleep mode using voice commands. The Xbox One will not work without a Kinect unit attached.
