| I think the GOTY should go to The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead has managed to incorporate some of the most emotional storytelling I've ever seen in video games, with the choice system rivaling that of Mass Effect's. Considering that it's an arcade game, but manages to create an immersive experience that several retail games can't accomplish, it really is a magnificent feat in gaming this year. |

| Reading this list is making me realize just how few new games I have played this year. I'm pulling for Spec Ops in Best Story, though. The game showed what you can do with a pure shooter and gave you enough hooks to replay it and figure out exactly what was going on and exactly where things got weird. |

Best Premise of the year: Dishonored Well, everything but Dishonored is a continuation of previous premise. As good as those are for ACIII and a few others I would have to give the nod to the relatively original game. Best Story of the Year: The Walking Dead I'd also say that Dishonored has a strong chance at this. Though in reality it is a little bit of a contrived, slightly overdone story. Mass Effect 3 is great but will be judged down because of the ending controversy. Max Payne is a great story but again, a little contrived and overdone. I didn't play Spec Ops so I can't really comment on it. Best MP: Borderlands 2 I'm not much of a MP gamer but of the list the only two games I'd even be slightly interested in spending significant MP time on are Halo 4 and Borderlands 2. Others can, and should, be better judges for this category. Best Graphics of the Year: Toss-up You can't really go wrong here. I'd probably pick Max Payne 3 because I like its art style. Any game that wins is very deserving. Original Score: Dishonored Again, another category where every nominee deserves to win. Even Halo 4 which built off a pre-existing score is deserving because of the new themes added to the score. I pick Dishonored because it was my favorite game among the nominees. New Franchise of the Year: Dishonored Really biased pick here. Except for demos of Dragons Dogma and Walking Dead I haven't played any other nominee other then Dishonored. Arcade Game of the Year: The Walking Dead I haven't played any of them other then the demo for Walking Dead. I keep meaning to play the whole series but don't find time. I threw Walking Dead up there as my choice because of the critical acclaim I've seen it garner. Innovative Gameplay feature of the Year: Quantum Conundrum I still haven't finished it but QC is spectacular. Its innovation is no surprise given the Portal roots of its developers. I love the contracts mode in Hitman and "blinking" in Dishonored is fun as hell but I give QC the nod. Surprise of the Year: Sleeping Dogs Ashamed to admit I haven't played any of these games yet. Just off my casual knowledge I give it to Sleeping Dogs because of its development history. Its impressive it was ever even released. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is no shock to anyone that gave War for Cybertron a fair shake. The only reason I haven't played it yet is because I've been waiting for it to come down in price. Disappointment of the Year: Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC because of the glitches! Seriously though, I haven't played a single one of the nominees because I despise every one of those franchises. So they can't be disappointing to me because I knew they were going to suck. So I'm doing a write-in for this category. Developer of the Year: 343 Ubisoft Montreal, Arkane and maybe TellTale are equally deserving but I think that 343 needs to be recognized for picking up the torch with the Halo franchise and maybe outdoing any of Bungie's efforts since Halo:CE. Combine that with Forza and I think 343 wins it this year. Publisher of the Year: 2K Honestly, I don't like any of the choices. Almost every single one of these publishers made their bones this year by releasing sequels. Square Enix should get some credit for taking a chance on Sleeping Dogs and releasing Quantum Conundrum but I give the category to 2K because they revived an essentially dead franchise with the new XCOM game. Game of the Year: Dishonored This may change after Tuesday when I finally get a chance to play Far Cry 3. Until then Dishonored has to be the pick. Its a new IP first of all. That gives it a huge advantage. It has a great (though slightly generic) story. It has amazing play control and creates a varied style to play in. Its only drawback is graphics that don't live up to the potential of the current generation. Based off everything I've heard about Walking Dead it should be #2. Feel free to rip apart my choices. |

Really can't believe Mass Effect 3 didn't even get picked for GOTY nominee. It might not have deserved to win it, but not to be a nominee is a slap in the face till previous GOTY i.e ME1 & ME2. Both these games got GOTY. IMO ME3 was the best of the lot. Ending was lame until update. IMO BEST STORY EVER. Merry Crimbo. |

OT: Well, I haven't played any of the games nominated for GOTY (Yet), but I'd say either The Walking Dead or Far Cry 3,as based on Let's plays those games look stunning. Although, I'd personally swap NFS:Most Wanted in 'Disappointment' for Hitman:Absolution, but to each their own. |

Best Premise: Dishonored It's a toss-up this year, but I think the game where you can be a supernatural assassin who can slaughter everybody in his path, not lay a hand on anybody, or anything in between just wins. Best Story: The Walking Dead Hands down. Were it not for its debacle of an ending, I'd probably have given Mass Effect 3 the nod. Best Multiplayer: Borderlands 2 Nothing else on the list let's you cooperatively kill the 98% of life that hasn't exploded yet on Pandora. As much as I like Halo 4, Borderlands 2 has done more to refine a formula to perfection. Best Graphics: Halo 4 Forza Horizon and Mass Effect 3 are both beautiful looking games, but Halo 4 is a step above both of them. Everything looks crisp and gorgeous. Best Original Score: Mass Effect 3 This is probably a three-way toss up between Halo 4, Dishonored, and Mass Effect 3. That the music fits so well in game is why I give the nod to Mass Effect 3. I will give shout-outs to the Dishonored main theme and To Galaxy from Halo 4 as personal favorites. Best New Franchise: Dishonored Dishonored did almost everything right on its first outing. Sleeping Dogs gets a close second for even managing to be released at all, let alone managing to be a good game. I didn't consider The Walking Dead on the technicality that it really isn't a new franchise. Best Arcade Game: Toss-Up This category is probably the toughest to choose. Any one of these games deserves to win, but I feel like Spelunky will get overlooked simply because it's surrounded by well-known titles. Best Innovative Gameplay Feature: Fez's 2D/3D Trick While it's not the first game to use this idea (see Paper Mario), Fez opened up entire dimensions of gameplay with such a simple sounding feature. Surprise of the Year: Sleeping Dogs Again, Sleeping Dogs was not only surprisingly good, it's also a surprise that it managed to come out of development hell no worse for wear. None of the other games should have come as any surprise to people who gave previous installments in their respective series a chance. Disappointment of the Year: Medal of Honor: Warfighter Resident Evil 6 is a close second, but it at least had some redeeming features. Warfighter was just an epitome of everything wrong with military FPS games and did nothing at all to be any good in any way. Developer of the Year: Telltale These guys deserve kudos for almost singlehandedly resuscitating the classic adventure game. Honorable mention goes to Firaxis. Publisher of the Year: Ubisoft It's difficult to go wrong when you have Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry 3 released within a month of each other. Trials Evolution is the icing on this very delectable cake. Game of the Year: Far Cry 3 This is a tough call, but Far Cry 3 takes more successful risks than Halo 4, not to mention it's easy to forget that its characters are only slightly less compelling than The Walking Dead's. I'd be fine with any of the nominees winning it all this year, really. |

Disappointment of the year: Mass Effect 3 for fucking you over after three lengthy games by making your choices count for fuck all... don't get me wrong, it's still a great game, but the whole point of the entire trilogy was about your choices making a difference, but at the end of it all they count for nothing. Mass Effect 3 does deserve best musical score, the music fit in so well with what you were doing, especially in the Shepard VS Reaper part. best new franchise: DISHONORED!! proving that new games CAN succeed over the 50th CoD for example :) best Story: Halo 4, it was a nice new twist on the story, always wanted more and felt there was more to have. |

@31, and yet, It's held in such great light by so many people, because it was a brilliant ride of a game, you needs to learn a bit about point and click games I think :3 My votes personly go with: Best Premise of the Year I can't really vote here, because I actually haven't played any of these titles yet. Best Story of the Year I know Spec Ops won this years story award, but I feel that The Walking Dead deserve's this spot more imo, it was just so unexpected how good it would be. Best Multiplayer of the Year Halo 4 here without a doubt, it's fun, balanced well, the best vehicle balance that any halo game's had tbh. Best Graphics of the Year Halo 4 here. Just look at it, enough said. Best Original Score of the Year I put Halo 4 here, though unfairly, because I've not listened to other soundtracks from the games. New Franchise of the Year The Walking Dead, just for how unexpectedly well that it went. Arcade Game of the Year Oh, this is a toss up between minecraft and the walking dead, but I'll need to vote for mine craft, I've put that much time into it. Innovative Gameplay Feature of the Year I would say the Fez 2D/3D feature, because it's the only one that I know in depth enough to know exactly how it works. Surprise of the Year I would say Dragons Dogma, I loved the boss battle's mainly in that and how they where handled, it's only lacking a faster way to travel and co-op really, and before someone comments, the game is built around co-op play, it just lacks putting a person in the body of the other characters. Disappointment of the Year I have to say 007 legends, how can you take such an icon, and such iconic scenes, and mess it up so badly? Completely missing the point of James Bond. Developer of the Year I felt like saying Teltale, but, I have to vote for 343 here, they where passed the torch on the Halo series, and they picked it up, and carried it higher, creating a brilliant game. Publisher of the Year I'm unsure here, tbh, the main ones who have made games that I enjoy have also made plenty I don't enjoy, and done plenty of things that I haven't enjoyed. So here I'll vote for Square Enix, for old times sake ^-^ Game of the Year Halo 4 gave the best overall package this year for me, the walking dead is my second easily, |

@32 'you needs to learn a bit about point and click games I think :3' Actually, I believe you do. A person can like the genre but not like The Walking Dead, quite easily. Why? Compared with other point and click games, like Monkey Island, the old Indiana Jones games and Day of the Tentacle, the emphasis isn't on puzzle-solving, and there is far too much hand-holding when there is. In Episode 5, there is literally one 'puzzle' to solve, and that is the elevator doors at the start, if it could even be called as such. I love the series, and would easily put it as GOTY, purely for it's story and the fact it did something different and succeeded, but to imply it can define all point and clicks is nothing short of naive. |

@17 RE6 slide and dodge is not an innovative gameplay feature, hundreds of games have this in their repotoire, whereas dishonoreds blink is innovative and majorly fun to use! i think u must be extrmemly limited in what u play if RE6 is GOTY, its pure garbage as far as the franchise is concerned, and thats coming from one of the biggest RE fans on the planet. dont know why AC3s MP got in there, its crap, aswell as the game itself, i hated every minute of it, il not buy another AC game as long as i live. dishonored is a good new franchise, but the game was way short and was lacking in story depth if u ask me, didnt feel epic at all even tho there was some nice emotional bits towards the end. |

| for me GOTY would be ME3, its not about the ending, but the play itself, it wrapped up the series nicely and was hugely emotional, the use of dodging was a major improvement and the introduction of new enemies and weapons and how they all acted was superb, they brought a good level of customisation back which was missing in ME2. the campaign was epic as ever and insane mode was a good challenge. the dlc is fairly decent. atleast it didnt delete half of the players stats like AC3 did to people who bought the season pass. lets face it, Ubisoft rush their games and their dlc, and are all the more crap for it. |

My list is as follows: Best Premise of the Year - Dishonored Most original of the lot, IMO. Best Story of the Year - The Walking Dead It would have been Mass Effect 3 for me if I hadn't have picked up Walking dead. Best Multiplayer of the Year - Not played any of the nominee's MP so am unable to decide. Best Graphics of the Year - Mass Effect 3 Since I've not played the others. Wouldn't surprise me if Halo 4 or Forza took it though. Best Original Score of the Year - Mass Effect 3 If nothing else, I think ME3 deserves this, the music in the game gave it greater depth. New Franchise of the Year - The Walking Dead Toss up between this and Dishonored but I was hugely impressed by Walking Dead. Arcade Game of the Year - The Walking Dead Fantastic game, but I can also see Minecraft taking this since it's so popular. Innovative Gameplay Feature of the Year - Hitman: Absolution - Contracts Mode Not played it but from what I hear the mode extends the game's life somewhat. Dishonored's Blinking is fun but didn't feel innovative. Surprise of the Year - XCOM Old School TBS for the win. Disappointment of the Year - 007 Legends Almost chose NFS:MW due to comparison between itself and the superior (IMO) Burnout Paradise. Developer of the Year - TellTale Great games by Firaxis and Arkane Studios but gripping story line is always a large factor for me. Publisher of the Year - Just can not decide, none of the nominees have really impressed me. Game of the Year - The Walking Dead Gripping, emotional and accessible. Enjoyed the episodic style and considering it's an arcade title just makes it more impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed Dishonored and have enjoyed XCOM thus far. It could have been Far cry 3 considering what I've heard but have yet to play it. |

I very impressive with Far Cry 3, Dishonored, The Walking Dead and new console's Wii U so far. They bought me a great year for 2012's gaming. :) Wii U is best launch console since original Xbox. Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii haven't got their great memorable of this generation consoles launched because most of their launch games isn't awesome (expect Zelda: Twilight Princess and Resistance 1 is great launch title but it is rare on Wii and PS3 though). Now first next generation console and show me that Wii U is great and awesome. Well done to Nintendo for bought brilliant console with HD this time and true next generation before next Xbox and PS4. Why Wii U is brilliant because of launch titles is most of them are awesome and great like Mario U, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, ZombiU, Mass Effect 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, AC III and Nintendo Land (though I just got Mario U, Batman, Zombiu and Nintendo Land. But look at launch titles for Wii U is brilliant since original Xbox. PSVita and 3DS got their launch titles didn't great just like Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.) :) Look forward many games in 2013 for Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3 plus maybe next Xbox is coming in 2013? Lol |

A fairly terrible list overall. Dragon's Dogma needed more praise, especially for that awesome ending. Syndicate was evidently forgotten completely as well. No time for an essay post, but yeah, 2012 was quite disappointing with it's "big hitters" and very charming and immersive with it's less well-funded titles. |

| @50 NFS:MW does have a nicely high metacritic score (84/100 with 30 plus critical reviews). However, the user reviews have been less favorable on metacritic's own site: 5.7/10 with over 250 ratings. |

@51 By those standards, Mass Effect 3 deserves to be there as well then. Metacritic user scores aren't to be trusted. Judging by the amount of people suggesting Forza Horizon* or GT5 as alternatives, they've either missed the point of an 'Arcade racer', or are fanboys to a different series. *It's somewhat debatable whether FH could be classed as Simulation or Arcade. But IMO it's still simulation. |

While not a Halo fan, I think the Developer award should go to 343. They took on a huge risk taking over the series after Bungie and from what I hear from friends who are Halo fans, they did an amazing job. Sleeper hit/Surprise of the year has got to be hands down, XCOM. Though I thought it was hard as hell, it was fun, orginal, and took me back to the days of playing the original on PC. Cheers to Firaxis. Dissapointmet was MOH: Warfighter. I wanted to to like it, I tried to like it, I tried to like it again after a month, but in the end it failed overall expectations. Good luck to all for game of the year. I'm still content playing BF3 and Skyrim. |

| @#50 - Why would we care what the rest of the internet gives NFS:MW? See what we gave it... and that coming from Criterion. That's why it's in the disappointment of the year category. |

#59 Yeah I agreed with you. I think EA want to pay some websites to give Racing game of the year for NFS: MW. I think EA wanna pay them to get awards on their giant water business again. Lol Forza Horizon is real Game of the Year for Racing in my opinion because it is got better graphics, gameplay, more fun and better control to used and amazing racing game to dated. NFS MW is good yeah but not high dated like Forza Horizon did. Open World maybe seem better then FH but rest of things in Horizon better then NFS: MW Burnout series is way better then NFS for Criterion's famous racing series. :) |

| All I have to say is Sleeping Dogs is technically not a new franchise. It's just the 3rd True Crime game with a different name really. |

| I don't understand why there's a "biggest disapointment" section, especially when all five of the games in there are diamonds in the rough (honestly, there were far, far worse games that came out then the five picked, honestly). |

Resident Evil 6... disapointement of the year? Seriously? Its not the glory of the old days sure, but its still a freaking good game... As for 007 legends... i was tempred to rent it tonight... but considering they put RE in that category... better not trust them... Best MP.. sad to say, but it will be between Halo and COD, i mean even as a GOW fan, and even if GOW would be in that list, of course we all know COD or Halo will win... honestly ... i know its generic and unoriginal but... COD... always effective.... its a simple type of multiplayer accessible to most gamers(not all... cause the noobs that cost me games at 2-14 tell me otherwise) but still more ascesible than Halo... Anyway thats my vote... I guess it miss best DLC... that would go to Dragonborn really... that DLC is AMAZING for 1600 pts... i heard dawnguard was disapointing, at least for its price, but seem like they got the shot back with dragonborn... i will probably take Dawnguard on deal tomorow... heard it will be part of the christmas sale.. |

@47 - Wow, don't know what you have been smoking to say that the WiiU had a strong launch library. First of all Batman and Mass Effect 3 are games that have been out for almost a year now. Who cares if they have a few exclusive features, its still pretty much the exact same game, plus what's the point of playing ME3 without playing the first two. And neither one had all of the DLC included. Second, yeah the system had Black Ops 2 and Assassins Creed 3, but they also not only came out at the same time as the 360/PS3 versions but look the same as well. Why pay $400 dollars for a new system and game when you can get the game on a system youbown already own. And New Super Mario Bros U? It's pretty much is just a barely enhanced version of the Wii version with the touch pad. I would give the system credit for ZombiU but even that got mediocre reviews. Point is you can't a next gen system have a strong launch library when most of the good games are on the competitors current system with the SAME graphics. And the whole Wii pad thing is a joke considering that Microsoft and Sony have made the same technology (Smartglass/Vita) happen on their current system just with UPDATES! WiiU will be an outdated system once the next XBOX/ PS4 comes out in a few years from now. |

I agree with most of the selections, I'm a little biased on a few, but the only list I feel passionate enough to make a statement/vote for out loud is: * Disappointment of the Year - Ghost Recon: Future Soldier * GRFS has gotta be the "winner" of this distinction, doesn't it? We waited THIS long for THAT?! And they continuously and repeatedly built our expectations higher and higher, in spite of delay after delay. Yeah okay, multi-player was alright, but the Campaign absolutely BLEW... and not in a good way. Ubisoft's entire Tom Clancy Team has clearly lost their mojo. |
