	@7 As for Japanese people, I think a great deal of us will regard "Jap" as a derogatory term. To be honest, I was quite surprised to know that it could be used in a neutral nuance, and didn't actually believe that until a good friend of mine did call me Jap. lol

	@ 19 i did have auto translater on and i still couldnt understand it! BTW, what i meant was the symbols are weird looking and it must hurt to look at them all day. And when the fuck is Jap racist. Its a commonly used term to shorten Japanese, and many Japs i know use this between themselves, so when the fuck is it racist.

	#28: Nowadays, everything is regarded racist ! One must have opinions about everything, but when it's about culture or race you can't or you're a racist. Racial traits exist, and it is completely normal to like, dislike or have an opinion about it. About shortened names being racist... that's just a laughable statement. Racism does exist, but the light-hearted mockery, which usually originates from stereotyping (Japanese have little wieners!!), of a race isn't, much like the mockery of other dialects and regions within the same country, which is a practice EVERYONE does. We even stereotype within our own city or street, judging by clothes, behaviour, looks,... and crack a joke from time to time. In your shallowminded 'everything's racist' heads, that would be aswell. If you haven't laughed with anyone at any point in your life, you are excused, if not, you're just another hypocrite. People really need to distinguish real racism from this common practice. It's narrowminded and frankly, the racism card is getting seriously old. I used to work with a black colleague (I said black, can I say black... ?) and I used to crack jokes about him having to smile in the dark so I can see him walking. He also joked about using me to fill his bowl of cereals because he's out of milk and when we walked in the sun, he could see my entrails. For those who think this is racist, you should get your head checked.

	I'm guessing this is some kind of rhythm game. I don't have kinect so won't be playing this but would like to have more japanese games translated in english. OT: Wow A discussion about calling someone a Jap being racist or not. Don't you have anything better to do? Still I think that calling Someone a Jap is as racist as calling someone A brit so not racist at all but it can be Offensive because of what happend in WW II.

It was commonly used by American army generals and officers

	I really don't think I should comment on this seeing as how I have little interest in the game, but the discussion that has ensued. I think a lot of the time, being post racial is the new racism, being ultra sensitive about what you say around people of a certain ethnicity is implying that there is a difference that you don't want to acknowledge. Is "Jap" an offensive word? Yes and no, what is important is to remember context.

Oh and I would bet you don't have any Japanese friends that use the word 'Jap'. Years living in Japan and never heard a single person say it. The reason it is racist and Brit isn't is because of the history of the words. Try actually learning something at school. If you had even once taken some classes, picked up a dictionary, checked wikipedia etc then you would know it's a slur. @29 You really can't see the difference between joking with a friend and saying something about an entire nation of people? I suppose considering you think ''Racial traits exist and it's normal to dislike them'' shouldn't make that too surprising.

	@44: It's one thing to say it looks weird. That's a perfectly fine opinion to have. I think what was construed as offending, though, was that it 'must hurt to look at that all day', implying ignorance. Although I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. It's okay to be a little racist. After all, we are all part of different cultures and stuff, so someone somewhere will inevitably be offended by something. Gotta grow a tougher skin so the little stuff like a racial slur taken out of context doesn't bother you.

	Different words mean different things in different countries. From what people are saying, sounds like "Jap" is mainly a racist word in America? Kinda like how "spastic" is a very, very bad word in England, but in America, it's the name of one of the Transformers. These kinda differences are bound to crop up online. For my part, and maybe it's just me, but here in England I've never known Jap to be a racist term, I've always regarded it to be a simple abbreviation, like Brit. And at the end of the day, #1 was being a douche with his "it hurts my eyes" comment, but isn't it possible he was just using Jap as a contraction rather than as a racial insult? I mean, I've never really seen the point when people get offended by a word when the meaning behind it is benign. If it's used in an insulting way, sure. But if I stub my toe and shout the f-word, I'm expressing pain, not discussing intercourse. Context matters.
