| @#2 - Yes and no. Yes, they are Guy Fawkes masks, made famous by V For Vendetta, but what they stand for in V For Vendetta is pretty much what people are using them for now: upholding the rights of the citizen, democracy and resisting the control of corrupt governments. |

'These ISPs will essentially monitor your activity online, gather evidence and such, and then “co-operate” with copyright holders to protect their IPs.' Well, I suppose one good thing could come out of ISP's monitoring us: Nut's and Playboy magazine subscriptions would go through the roof... It would be, y'know, nice for them to stop trying to censor all our collective ass's. But then again, Tenacious D said it best in 'The government totally sucks'. |

| #13 and everyone else your computers ISP's are already monitored so I don't understand why you all think that they are just going to start. If website you go to to load up off your modem is logged on your internet providers server. And they can bring up every thing you have every downloaded or clicked on from your modem. I know comcast can for a fact and so can all the others and also if the government wants to they can get into your modem whenever and already do |

@14 the word you're looking for is 'ours'. Also, FYI, this has nothing to do with which continent has the bigger dick, its about which legislation is gonna fuck you harder in the ass. SOPA and PIPA may DP you, but they do it gently with lube and a rubber, ACTA fucks you hard and raw with a fat 14" then fires it's load all over your face. |

@14 seriously trolling on a subject like this, is that really necessary. These laws will affect all of us around the world as all governments are influenced by each other, if any country passes a ruling like this (outside of the more extreme political states) then others would soon follow, thats why it has to be prevented from being passed through parliament |

@15 Thank you. Your ability to state the obvious is inspiring. I know they keep logs... Hell everyone knows they keep logs. But at the moment theres less things that flag them to check your info. If ACTA passes, there will be a steep increase in reasons to check. Half of them will be needless as well. |

I've got bad news for the movie/music industry. If any law like this passes, EVER, I'll never buy/rent/go to the theatres again. Period. They will not see a single penny of mine from the moment a bill like this passes. Fuck it, I'll start reading books. And I've got YEARS of backlogged games to keep my occupied. Hell, just replaying FF 1-13 will soak up plenty of time. Fuck you you greedy corporations. Adapt to the times, or get the fuck out of the way. Stop trying to cripple society just to INCREASE your profits. We all know you're not posting losses. |

This is a big enough issue that I think it warrants a spot in the news column. Just saying. :) |

how can the movie companies continue to operate when they are so openly corrupt, and also apparently somewhere around half of the EU/US government which that post also kinda implies i think it's about time that ANY business person shouldn't be aloud to work in politics.... now, time to see if we can set someone better than anonymous on all governmental bodies, then when we know who they all are, destroy them, or their lives at the very least and if they try this shit again, then we go further, and after publicly outing their corruption (and all personal details), go to the physical world and start attacking them that way these guys have a tendancy to not spend money securing their website, or web activity, time to make them pay methinks |

Guys, I know I freaked out, too, the first time I saw this, but with a little research, this isn't all that bad (although the fact that it's being passed mostly under the table is). Take a look at this link one of my friends posted to me: http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/or8ag/ive_read_the_final_version_of_acta_heres_what_you/ Now, granted, this is posted through Reddit, so its legitimacy might be slightly in question, but its rhetoric builds it to be believable, enough. According to the phrasing of the bill as sited, ACTA doesn't actually do anything. It's not a new SOPA or PIPA, it's merely an international agreement that any country who signs on will do their best to keep IPs safe and protected. And that's not all that bad. ACTA can't do much, it doesn't tell any government to go all 1984 on their people and, actually, has clauses to PREVENT excessive charges, etc. on those found in violation of the country's anti-piracy laws. I'll admit, I download plenty of music and even a few movies, from time to time (mostly foreign art films for classes, but I've been known to get AS and FX shows so I can catch up between releases), but this is really nothing to get worked up about. Designers and other creatives, especially in our world of video games, deserve their rights and money from the works they make. If governments good enough to make laws that protect them without infringing on personal rights, we should all be for that. Hell, if these regulations get passed, maybe we'd be one step closer to seeing the end of attacks on places that sell used games or stupid ideas like UPlay passports. Research is key in this new world of instant information (and misinformation), my friends. |

Glad to see a news site that I visit finally draw attention to ACTA. If this passes basically everything on the internet will be liable to copy right infringement and we will be left with only porn... until someone finds a way to make porn illegal... the future is horrible!!! On a serious note. I kinda agree with #34 that this might just be an agreement to 'do your best' for each of the countries to sign. Especially in Australia where our government just basically ignores all its agreements and fights with the opposition calling them names. It's horrible. However the fact that this has been happening under closed doors maybe leads me to believe that is more devious than just a 'do your best' agreement. Either way we as internet users need to show we are opposed to this sorta control whether in theory or actual implementation. |

First of all it's intersting he mentions the whole Anti-Christ thing (it's said that if the world goes to a single economy ... aka form of currency, their will be an oppression of pretty much all religions, the mark of the beast ... but that's another story). Anyway this is upsetting to see they have the balls to try something like this. It's like the US's economic crash of 2008. Businesses are getting way to involved with government. Put an military general in power that will change things real quick. Hey Anonymous (the hacker group) you want to do something useful, go after the people involved with this stuff and mess it up ... stop trying to do what you do now (including an attempt to crash the internet) |

@17, lovely mental image there! @14, #17 is right though, this legislation gives idiots more power with less to rein them in. This website would end or be so badly censored that it won't even be able to print achievement lists because EA Games or whoever have all the rights to it. Twitbook and Faceer would end, too many uncontrollable opinions on there! Google would have only 10 results on it for any given search, 9 of them being porn, the other on being a paid subscription site, for porn. Lets not forget the whole clusterfuck that is the ability to change the legislation at will, with no one to stop them. One good thing though, the Trolls will starve with no bridge to guard. Banhammer will go rusty. |

If you really want to help oppose these heinous acts of injustice against the Internet and it's trickle down effect, you need to stay informed! I applaud this site for bringing it to the attention of the smart and just gamers here. But bedsides being informed and remaining abreast of the issues, there is something even more important that you need to do....INFORM OTHERS! Things like this get passed because so many people remain ignorant. Or they are absolutely and unequivocally moronic and dangerously ignorant, like the guy who posted that this is not really a big deal and we don't need to worry. Which my first thought is that he/she is actually a shill for the groups plotting this evil discourse. But I think he's just blatantly uneducated. But I digress... So it's super important for you personally to stay informed about what's going on, but you have to pass this knowledge on to as many people as you can, everyone you come across. Your friends, your family, co-workers, enemies, girlfriend/boyfriend/that prostitute you meet every Wednesday. I mean everyone! Even if they think you're nuts or this is harmless or could never affect them because they will undoubtedly say the absolute most ignorant thing in response..."Well I don't download stuff illegally, so this didn't concern me, and I think it's good." And that line right there, the one you'll hear so many times your had will explode, that is the line the evil greedy entities behind these shady acts are counting on. That is, only when they know you're actually paying attention to what they're doing. But that has nothing to do with the true purpose of these bills. Their reach is much more insidious. But the more people you talk to and try to help educate, well that's one more person who can join the fight against these ultimate greed and innovation squashing bills. Even if the person you talk to doesn't go do some research right away, they still will probably remember you mentioned it. Then when another informed anti-greed advocate says something to this person they will say "Wow,a lot of people keep mentioning this SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA stuff recently to me, maybe I should jump online and see what it's all about?". So even if you think it's a waste if your time, still continue to try and educate people you talk to or meet, about what these bills will do and how they well ultimately eradicate and destroy the Internet that we all know and love today. note: didn't have time to check, so sorry about any and all typos, plus I'm using a slide keyboard on my tablet. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I've never pirated anything in my life, i believe in paying the artist for the art. But under ACTA i'm to be treated like a criminal, who is just itching to steal IP and needs to be under surveillance 24/7. Those proposing such acts are fooling themselves. They may think they are acting to prevent piracy, but they are sounding the death knell for their industries. |

| I think this is all a scam to either get more control over us or a bunch of greedy lawyers milking the industry by tricking them into giving them the work. The entertainment biz can put up all the dumb, suffocating laws it wants and its still not going to increase revenue. People steal bc its either not worth it to them or they're cheap/poor. If they lose that outlet, and only given the choice to pay, they'll just go without it not even batting an eye lash. |

| way to solve it is if it does ever pass then we need to tell everybody not to buy anything for a while. boycotting these companies showing them that they cannot control us and our internet. |
