| Comment #3 by ThingWitch Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 09:28:10 AM So is this two games in one? There are achievements for Final Fight and Magic Sword? | |
| Comment #4 by Hybridchld Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 09:28:39 AM Sweet loved Magic Sword on the SNES so I'll probably grab this. Any word on pricing? | |
| Comment #5 by lordskorrkeeper Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 10:58:01 AM OMFG too great games, Always wanted to play Magic Sword back in the day and Final Fight was my first SNES game I bought | |
| Comment #6 by GandalfStorm30 Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 11:55:29 AM lmao @ peeps saying "never heard of final fight", im guessing your abour 12 then ? Final was an amazing arcade machine that got ported to most consoles, the best being the SNES version | |
| Comment #7 by MR X 93 Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 12:25:39 PM ZOMG IS THIS THE BIG REVEAL??? | |
| Comment #8 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 12:49:16 PM This arcade game is a combination of Final Fight (arcade version) and Magic Sword (arcade version). Final Fight on the Super Nintendo is nowhere near as badass as the arcade version, so if you've only played the SNES version prepare to have your socks blown off by this. | |
| Comment #9 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 12:54:05 PM I'm a beat 'em up scholar so I'm going to give you guys a rundown on how important is it to buy this. Final Fight was originally released back in 1989, when the beat 'em up genre (which was founded in 1984 with Kung-Fu Master) was still a niche genre. There were only a couple of quality brawlers back then (Ninja Gaiden, Splatterhouse, Trojan and The Ninja Warriors probably representing the cream of the crop) and Final Fight basically did for the genre what Street Fighter II did for versus fighters... the scene exploded and didn't slow down until the mid 90s. | |
| Comment #10 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 12:58:10 PM It has a great soundtrack that had no rival until the Streets of Rage trilogy and as I play Final Fight arcade quite frequently I can honestly tell you the game has aged very well. The graphics look better than just about anything else released during that period and the two-player co-op is quite fun with three playable character choices (a slow but powerful guy, a quick but weak guy, and Cody representing averaging out the other two). | |
| Comment #11 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:02:19 PM Besides achievements and online co-op, this arcade game has adjustable screen size and graphical filters - but the real nify addition is the boarding screen which uses the cabinet artwork (which is greasy looking and weathered like it has been sitting in an actual arcade for decades) and I'm hearing rumors that a remixed soundtrack may be included but hopefully it is optional since I cannot see how the music can be improved and the last game that tried to (Final Fight CD on the Sega CD) made the sleazy synth-beats into a decent sounding but unremarkable rock sound that seems more fitting for a bar fight in a Van Damme movie. | |
| Comment #12 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:05:16 PM There have been a lot of variants of the original Final Fight. The SNES version (which is also on the Wii) is the worst and should be avoided if possible. The Sega CD version has a remixed soundtrack and a time attack mode added, but the cut-scenes were butchered in the American version and the voice acting is worse than Resident Evil. The NES version is very different from the arcade game and plays more like the NES version of Double Dragon. The GBA version is an upgrade version of the SNES one and had a little bit of extra (additional dialogue / costumes) but isn't as visually arresting as the arcade game, has less enemies more screen, and is still partially censored. | |
| Comment #13 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:07:40 PM The Arcade game was finally ported onto Capcom Classics Collection Volume 1 on the PS1, which was great and it had some unlockable artwork and background info (did you know Poison is a transsexual, or that J is autistic?). It was also unlockable on Final Fight Streetwise, but the emulation was kind of shoddy and had no extras. So far, Final Fight: Double Impact looks like the best version you can play of the game and I will be reviewing it on Gamefaqs the day it comes out. | |
| Comment #14 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:10:48 PM Magic Sword is a kind of beat 'em up / adventure game that plays like a combination of The King of Dragons and Castlevania. I've only played it a few times on the SNES and on Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2. It's a decent game that allows you to get an A.I. partner (there's several if I remember, a ninja and barbarian among others) and collect loot while ascending a massive tower and battling enemies. It has a choice ending as the achievement imply where you can be a hero or something more sinister. It's a good enough game on its own but Final Fight is the real deal in this two-part package. | |
| Comment #15 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:18:18 PM I'm asking you guys to PLEASE buy this game. Capcom made the best beat 'em ups period from the late 80s until the early 90s. If this sells well we may see future two-packs including games like Captain Commando, The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Armored Warriors, Battle Circuit, Trojan, The Warriors of Fate, etc. Sadly, Capcom's best beat 'em ups use pre-existing liscenses so we'll probably never seem them ported. I'm talking about Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and it sequel Shadow over Mystara, and what many (including myself) considering one of if not the best beat 'em up ever made - Alien vs. Predator. | |
| Comment #16 by dorkzilla123 Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:28:55 PM This will be a purchase on day 1 for me considering I grew up playing Final Fight and Magic Sword... Just waiting for a classic arcade game called "Combatribes" to make it to XBLA :) | |
| Comment #17 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 01:39:15 PM Combatribes (the SNES version) is on the Wii's VC for 8 bucks. | |
| Comment #18 by PalmettoPanda Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 02:03:48 PM That Alien vs. Predator arcade game was amazing. I really hope they can get the licenses for that to come to XBLA. In the meantime, this is a first day purchase for me. | |
| Comment #19 by ErinEsurance Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 02:50:08 PM Instant purchase for me. Hopefully its 800 points, but I'd be happy with 1200 as well. | |
| Comment #20 by ianke_2002 Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 03:01:10 PM @ Xenodolf.........do you work for Capcom? | |
| Comment #21 by Nathan LS27 Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 03:29:37 PM yeah that guy is seriously insane about a game that should stay in the past on topic, not getting this or any other game room tripe, sorry xenodolf! | |
| Comment #22 by yamayamayaamaa Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 04:06:19 PM Dude's crazy ^ | |
| Comment #23 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 04:14:45 PM No, I'm a beat 'em up scholar. I upkeep the world's largest database for the genre (several thousand titles spanning from 1984 to the present day). I review beat 'em ups on Gamefaqs exclusively, and I try to encourage whenever possible for people to buy them to keep the genre alive. For example, if you can find a copy of Data East Arcade Classics for the Wii (its not in most stores, I've looked) you can play arcade versions of Bad Dudes, Two Crude Dudes, Wizard Fire, and Sly Spy. | |
| Comment #24 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 04:18:33 PM Don't be ignorant, people. Dismissing the importance and influence of older games is like looking back on World War II or the Civil Rights Movement and saying "that happened before I was born, it doesn't matter!". | |
| Comment #25 by asilent boom Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 04:54:02 PM @24 your comparing the importance of buying a remake of an old video game(that was made for profit and not learning btw) to the importance of reading or learning about a World War or the Civil Rights Movement? Seriously? I liked Final Fight, i'll try the trial game, if I like it i'll get it, if not I won't. | |
| Comment #26 by Taiyz Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 05:07:24 PM Great "article," Xenodolf. I was gonna get the game already but just in case I ever have any doubts I'll come back and read your posts to re-convince myself. =P | |
| Comment #27 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 05:20:48 PM #25 I'm comparing it in terms of importance in the realm of videogaming. Since we're all spending hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours earning achievements that are meaningless outside of our own little enclave here, I used an extreme analogy because videogames are important to us. Also, I wasn't saying that not buying it was ignorance, but rather dismissing it because its old was (like poster #21). BTW this is an enhanced port, not a remake. And while Capcom isn't broadcasting FF: DB as a history lesson, it is one to new-school gamers who never experienced the arcades or even SNES-era genre styles. I'm suggesting people buy this because the beat 'em up genre is on life-support and that Capcom is sitting on a goldmine of quality games but won't port them unless they see thing | |
| Comment #28 by Xenodolf Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 05:21:27 PM see things like this turn a significant profit. | |
| Comment #29 by Webb Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 06:24:38 PM @#7 - No =P @#Xenodolf - I learn something new everyday around these parts. Didn't realise you were such a scholar on the whole beat 'em ups. They say every day's a school day and indeed they are. | |
| Comment #30 by Greg0fTheDead Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 07:23:50 PM YES. final fight is kickass. if you are down with one of the best beat em ups from back in the day youll appreciate this- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bj_oymzfzg | |
| Comment #31 by yamayamayaamaa Sunday, February 28, 2010 @ 08:55:57 PM lol | |
| Comment #32 by Kyanite Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 01:20:24 AM I have never played Magic Sword, but the thought of playing the arcade version of Final Fight makes me happy. The achievements look good, too, and I have several friends that I can see playing through the game with. | |
| Comment #33 by David x360a Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 03:39:40 AM Final Fight is a cherished memory from my younger days, this will definitely be a pleasant trip to the past =) | |
| Comment #34 by superjas Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 07:24:45 AM This should of had more individual achievements like perfect dark does. Thanks for the info xeno, I will be looking out data east arcade classics, shame it's not on 360 | |
| Comment #35 by Pax Psychosis Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 09:52:54 AM Final Fight or how I spent all my dinner money when I was young. Its funny but I found my old Amstrad version of Final Fight just the other day. Good times. | |
| Comment #36 by hyphy gef Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 10:24:29 AM xenodolf, you expect everyone to read all that? jeez | |
| Comment #37 by Andreas_loel Monday, March 01, 2010 @ 11:06:13 AM Simple must buy I fucking loved Final fight | |
| Comment #38 by Dog Of Thunder Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 12:51:52 AM I was fully prepared to shank someone if they commented on how "Cody and Guy from Street Fighter are in this game!" As a kid, I thought the NES version of Final Fight was a major let down. I was so happy to see it at Blockbuster but then sooo disappointed when I got home. Part of the fun of Final Fight was the huge (for the time) character designs. | |
| Comment #39 by xKTAx Ultimo Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 08:46:52 AM Xenodolf, I may not know as much as you but I know ALOT about beat em ups as well.....this is definitely A day one purchase with me....I wish they would fix the Final Fight:Streetwise bugs for the original XBox so I can play it on 360 :) | |
| Comment #40 by Jack Pumpkinhed Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 08:50:03 AM Oh, my car! Final Fight FTW! Can't wait! | |
| Comment #41 by OdorlessFurball Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 10:31:52 AM We need more of the side-scrolling fighters from the 90's from Capcom and Konami: The Punisher, Sunset Riders, Captain Commando, X-Men, etc. These games totally make me feel like a kid again! | |
| Comment #42 by BuckshotBrian24 Tuesday, March 02, 2010 @ 06:16:11 PM Sounds like a DBZ game | |
| Comment #43 by General Boredom Wednesday, March 03, 2010 @ 09:29:00 AM Hopefully this is the first of many such XBLA releases from Capcom. Loving the borders with the arcade cabinet art! | |
| Comment #44 by Gentendo 3000 Wednesday, March 03, 2010 @ 02:58:58 PM I agree with you #41, but Sunset Riders isn't really a brawler/fighter. Still, it's a great game that needs a re-release. | |
| Comment #45 by SonikkuHedgehog Friday, March 05, 2010 @ 10:14:24 PM Cody Jab Infinite FTW. | |
| Comment #46 by pye024 Saturday, March 06, 2010 @ 05:14:36 PM More games like this pls!! Will be buying this when it comes out. I do like the new games that XBLA bring out but there isn't enough classics out there. Both of the other systems have them so why not the xbox?? Hopefully the upcoming games room will change all that. | |
| Comment #47 by Sabeythang Sunday, March 07, 2010 @ 05:48:26 AM Magic Sword is one of my favorite Capcom sidescrollers ever. | |
| Comment #48 by Akatsuki Sw1tch Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 02:53:40 AM Quality, Final Fight would have been great but i probably won't bother with this due to magic sword also being bundled in for some reason? Wasn't the best either. | |
| Comment #49 by Xenodolf Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 03:40:04 AM ..its not like Magic Sword is going to degrade Final Fight by being packaged together. Both games have easy achievements and I'm expecting to 200/200 it within 24 hours. | |
| Comment #50 by dirge Tuesday, March 09, 2010 @ 03:25:40 PM Possibly my second most played arcade game ever Final Fight. Double Dragon being the first. Instant purchase for me. | |
