Sunday, January 10, 2010 @ 11:01:32 PM ...to be honest...awesome. I actually like this idea. First one in a LOOOOONG ass time. Just hoping they throw some of the titles I grew up on in here, as I don't recognize 3/4's of what is on that list. Hopefully more kick ass 2600 games and old school cabinets. :D |

Sunday, January 10, 2010 @ 11:20:35 PM So is this separate from the xbl arcade games, or will it allow arcade games I currently own to get a machine without having to buy it again, like pacman or street fighter? |
|
Sunday, January 10, 2010 @ 11:27:37 PM I'd be fine if it did. I don't buy much from the marketplace, but for those who do, they shouldn't complain about paying for stuff for this game room if they frequently buy arcade games already. Especially if your existing list of already purchased games can be added too. I already got kof98 and mvc2, and with the upcoming kof2002 and neo geo battle colosseum, it be cool to be able to set those up. |

Sunday, January 10, 2010 @ 11:30:55 PM I like it, but sounds a little pricey. Of course, that's the whole point though. We pay to get entertained, right? I'll buy some of these games for sure, not many though, because practically the only games I grew up playing were on a Nintendo system, and there's DEFINITELY not going to be Metroid, or The Legend of Zelda on here. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 12:09:56 AM Fantastic idea ruined by god awful prices. How about a 5$ monthly subscription? Thats reasonable if you want to compete with classic game programs. But no, Micro$oft is nowhere near reasonable. Trust me, a 5$ a month thing would earn them way more than they ever hope to with this crap |
|
Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 12:43:02 AM If you think $3 a game is not reasonable then please get off the computer and go find a job. And no, how would $5 a month earn them more profit? When the people who have jobs will have no problem spending $15-$20 on 5-6 games. Some of you people amaze me. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 04:34:52 AM @28 doesn't mean you shouldn't check them out, you might enjoy them! If you think about this, compared to what people used to actually pay at arcades, the prices ain't so bad. If you're not fussed about playing it on your PC (personally I'm not but I'm sure some people are), then it's effectively 3 dollars to own one of these, right? That's 6 goes at 50 cents, and 50 cents to play one of these in the comfort of your own home is okay, I guess. But 3 dollars to own one? Sure, I'll pay that for a game I know I'll like!

If you want to play those games just get an emulator and rom for free. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 08:02:40 AM -knuckle bumps #43- Man I wish Sega would give Revenge of Death Adder a port. I would pay $50 for it to have on-line co-op and achievements. I also agree this needs more late 80s/early 90s games. I started playing in 89 with stuff like Double Dragon, Golden Axe, Final Fight, NARC, and eventually games like Sunset Riders, Pit Fighter, and Aliens (which won't get ported with X-Men, Alien vs. Predator, the Punisher, the Simpsons or any other licensed game sadly). I also want to see less console games. You guys can buy a SNES or Dreamcast and whatever game you want for like $35 total while some of these arcade games have never been ported and deserve a chance to be played again!

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 08:52:35 AM $5 a game is pretty good, my only beef with buying arcade games and game updates is that it should just have a dollar amount, not a point amount. I hate when some game update comes out and its 800 points, and i have like 740.....then you have to buy another 500 minimum. that part of it doesnt make sense to me. I just think dollar amounts for EVERYTHING would make much more sense. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 09:03:54 AM Haha, that's funny. Right as I was thinking it sounds like a slightly more useful version of Playstation Home (which is utterly useless, so I guess anything they came up with would have been slightly more useful really), the article points out that Microsoft already responded to that point before anyone could call them on it. Maybe it's just because I've been up for about 17 hours or so, but I lol'd. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 09:15:53 AM This looks really promising. I think it's a great idea, and the prices are just fine, but I wouldn't know which game to buy first. Most of the time, when I was at the arcade, it was at the 1989 TMNT machine. I've got that one AND Turtles in Time: Reshelled, so I probably won't dip into this. It's still an awesome idea and I might just explore the arcade anyway. :) |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 09:16:37 AM @57: if you buy the game, you play it free, the pay for play is for the games you don't own So is it confirmed that there's no online multiplayer in this? Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 02:15:46 PM I still think the Game Room looks like Home (more specifically a clone of the Mall in Home but a more cartoon look to it). The description also sound so much like Home too. But with that being said I think it looks nicer then Home and is a better concept in a way. But I think the price points are a bit to high for my tastes. Then again I don't know many of these games but if they were to bring TMNT IV: Turtles in Time then I would buy it in a heart beat. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 02:39:50 PM For all of you who are like, "it's really old, 5 bucks is ridiculous." Think about it this way, could you find these games at your game store? No. Could you find them online? Yes. HOWEVER, they are going to be extremely expensive, because they're classics. 5 bucks isn't a big deal, especially if you loved the game as a kid. It's not like MS is forcing you to buy every single game on here. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 05:18:38 PM @98: They haven't updated the list, but there are games NOT on that list that will let you play them on 360. Anyways, I like this idea of game room, but i don't see myself spending much money on it. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 06:13:26 PM People bitch because they want better things for the 360. There are so many great arcade games that Microsoft charges way too much for. Most of these games are in flash for the large price of free. Now if the games have achievements it's very probable people will buy them. If not then it will fail miserably. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 09:06:25 PM @111 Because, despite the age of the game, some people like to pay for things instead of stealing them via pirating. I'll admit that I've played tons of games on emulators but to actually purchase and play those games was much, much more rewarding because I wasn't stealing. |

Monday, January 11, 2010 @ 11:47:55 PM I hope they aren't releasing these games in semi-chronological order as I'd like them to get into the dreamcast era, which means games like soul calibur could be compatible with this, but I don't know what their stance is on that. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 12:03:46 AM Also, why are so many people tripping on the price structure as if it was something new? 360 has been releasing old-school games (and I mean old) since the system's birth for 400 MS and higher, so....where's the beef? If you don't care about playing it on a PC filled with the pride of actually contributing to your beloved industry (emulator-free), then your paying almost half of what was normally expected of you. P.S. many game stores sell old school games for 2.50 and up (and it's getting harder to find those games at all), so it's not like MS is an innovator in the field or anything. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 01:23:08 AM @ #111 Because some of us don't live on the side of the road and can scrape up a measley $3. Nintendo could sell a spoon for $5 and make billions just because it says Nintendo on it. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 01:38:15 AM @116 You have no clue what your talking about. Microsoft is a business, and just like any business the concept is to make money. Microsoft isn't a charity. I'll probably get a few of the games over time, but none of the launch titles interest me. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 01:42:59 AM I think the idea/concept is really cool, only I'm bummed that the kinds of arcade games that I played as a kid won't be available (at least not yet). Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 04:58:37 AM @110 i think some people forget that sony is not just a gaming company, they are equally as large as microsoft @111 if your are speaking of emulators, good luck recovering your computer. also, you are paying to enjoy the xbox live community, and this is a good way for these companies to make a little extra money and keep their doors open and keep making the great retail titles you enjoy so much, including crap like MW2 |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 06:11:47 AM *sigh* what won't microsoft do to get more money..... I like retro games just like the next guy, but seems iffy to me. Microsoft could totally toss all of those on a disc and sell it as a game, or at least a bunch of titles as an arcade game....like the introductory 30 in one. plus 40MSP for a single play? that's way too much in my opinion, seeing how a full version is 400, and for that you can get some sweet content (most arcade games are about 800MSP,or1200MSP) What's next? Charging us to download and play demos? Because in a sense that is what microsoft is doing. If the games had trial versions- (so you can give the game a go to try if you like it, just like arcade games -you get achievemetns only if you have the full version) perhaps I'd believe, but otherwise no sale for me. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 06:56:47 AM I'm not saying I don't like classic games, but seriously these atari games are boring as hell. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 06:56:56 AM #123 - They aren't forcing you to buy it, it's just another option they offer, if you wanna relive those good old games. Which has been stated in the article and many times in the comments. Anyway, I'll give this a go, there can't be any harm in it. And honestly, my expectations aren't that high, so I'll hopefully be rather surprised. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 08:50:44 AM #120, I agree 100%. Microsoft is a business first. It takes a lot of work to design this, too much to just give away for free. And I don't think $3 is THAT bad per game. However, I don't think Microsoft needs to nickel and dime their customers that bad. I mean, they already make a huge profit in the Xbox's and everything that goes under that catagory. Not to mention they have the top selling computers in the world. They could afford to give away just a few of those titles away for free, just to give XBL members a sample of what the Microsoft Game room has to offer. By the way, people, it's $3 for your 360 OR your computer. It's $5 for a purchase on both. $3: Only 1 system $5: Both systems (Xbox AND PC) Easy enough to understand. It's not $5 for a purchase unless you want to |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 09:18:56 AM @123. Seriously? 50 cents is way to much for you? I'm just wondering how you are even on a computer if 50 cents is to much for you. I'm so tired of these comments, "Oh another scheme for microsoft to make money off of us." They are NOT forcing ANYONE to buy ANYTHING. Obviously there is going to have to be a price tag, unless someone can tell me how to run a business that profits by giving things away for free. If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's that simple. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 09:26:57 AM I can't believe anybody is complaining about $3 a game, seriously. I am 15, I earn $11 an hour... Essentially, if the games are good, I can buy 3 games and play 4 others for an hours pay and get more than an hour of enjoyment. If you bought an xbox, you can afford $3, really... AND if you don't value a game as worth $3 don't buy it, it's fairly simple. Just like buying games from gamestop... In my opinion, each game should have a 1 level (or timed, or 1 play) demo which has no achievements before I spend my $3 on it for the same reason as any other demo. The one thing that could ruin this arcade idea is the achievements, because if they have achievements that require multipul plays it's ruined. It needs to be all achievements you can get in 1/2 playthroughs but still a challenge. (th |

LMAO, why don't you try EARNING money to buy the stuff you want instead of saying this should be cheaper or free because they already make enough money. U bought it or asked for it because u like the 360 right? and u must like Microsoft for u to actually get "online" true? Then why winge and complain about a company who obviously delivers fun for u? Of course they have to charge "50c" here and "$3" there, u want them to keep maintaining it and adding more content don't u? And it's practically nothing for the endless fun u get for buying the game that u must have an interest in the 1st place. I mean why do people complain about a game or a service that they're not gunna buy anyway? |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 08:21:51 PM Instead of charging $5 for a game that's older than I am, how about we can spend gamerpoints like an earned currency on these things? That godforsaken number just keeps adding up, and for what? There's no leaderboards for GS. Give GS a purpose already, MS! Honestly $5 is steep for these games, you guys know the quality of those titles compared to standards nowadays, right? I won't play any of them longer than 10 minutes. |

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 09:21:52 PM I'm kinda on the fence with this thing. When they start delving into the late '80's through the mid '90's with this, I really hope we see the triple-A titles most of us arcade junkies know and love. Also, part of an arcade's original appeal was, as stated previously, huddling around the actual cabinets themselves, sitting in the seat for driving games, holding a plastic light gun for shooting games, etc. You're not gonna get that with a 360 controller or any combination of accesories, unless you've got a lot of floor space in your house and plenty of free time on your hands. I'm afraid some of the older games will get boring rather quickly with this type of setup, even if they have achievements. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 @ 09:25:08 PM Didn't realize I would get cut off... I do like the idea of being able to drop in 50 cents and play, but at that point and depending on the title, it might end up feeling like paying to play a demo. Where's the seperation at that point? Three bucks seems like a reasonable price, but I don't quite get the extra cost for duel platform accessibility. Seems like something that Gold Members would get for free. What I meant to say was that Microsoft is going about this the wrong way. If they charge $.50 just to play the game one time, that's understandable. It's in arcade style. It should have an arcade machine-style payment system. However, if you look at their Xbox Live Arcade, you can download a free demo (with 1 level) to try out. That's an awesome thing to do. Nobody's talking about giving away stuff, even though I may have said "They should give away some titles for people to try", but after thinking about it, I messed up what my comment really meant. This may be arcade-style, but it's not an arcade. It's an Xbox 360. People will complain if they spend even |

Sunday, January 17, 2010 @ 04:07:32 PM So they can cross platform pc to xbox, and vise versa. So why not ps3 to xbox 360 and vise versa. Then (off topic but still) all COD 360 players can own the nooby ps3 players. I reackon if they wanted to they could, but theres no money in it for them. |

Monday, January 18, 2010 @ 03:59:12 AM Are people out there really DYING to play these? Sure, they are classic games, but most of them you can find on the net as flash games. And if your argument for that is that it's not the same experience... well, neither is this besides the fact that you are paying them for it. I was excited and expecting to see some quality arcade titles here, but all I got was a nostalgia bomb that i've seen 100 times before. |

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 @ 06:42:08 PM oh crystal crashers sorry mistake. still this ranks up there with avatar items (that need to be purchased) as one of the dumbest things i've seen microsoft do. soon they'll be charging us money everytime we unlock an achievement |

Thursday, January 21, 2010 @ 06:51:43 PM hope this turns out well, it seems to have some great ideas, although i would prefer an actual coin insert rather than having to stock up on MSP just so i can make these little $0.50 micro transactions (il be purchasing games im sure, but il try the $0.50 thing once or twice, and if i like it maybe more) |

Sunday, January 24, 2010 @ 01:32:03 PM This is horrible bull****, and I'll tell you why. Remember before DLC let companies know they could charge us absurd amounts of money for 20+ year old games? Remember when you could pick up a classic game compilation of 10-20 games for a budget $30 tops? Back then the companies didn't think we'd pay through the nose for their old works, considering a freakin 5 year old game could sell for no more than 6 dollars. And those compilations were never talked about. Nowadays, its the next big thing, and that means more money for the same product. Game stores gave these same games away for free or threw them out. Yesteryear you could get a Mario Bros. AND Duck Hunt cart for a quarter, now Nintendo's charging five bucks for one of those in digital form. FIVE BUCKS. If you pre-ordered Legend of Z |

Sunday, January 24, 2010 @ 01:34:13 PM (cont'd) If you pre-ordered Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Gamecube, it gave you a collectors disc for FREE that contained TWO N64 games and TWO NES games. They gave away FOR FREE what today they would charge $30 for, more than half the cost of the game that was pre-ordered. Its so stingy nowadays it won't let me demo a game that came out when I was a kid for more than 30 seconds before forcing me to buy or get lost. Sometimes developers would even throw in the classic game(s) as a free bonus for buying the most recent game in a series. Old games, as intangible digital content with no collector's value, are actually becoming more expensive. That's bull****. Idiot nostalgia slaves will undoubtedly buy them, unfortunately. And this isn't even mentioning emulation, which enables anyone |

Sunday, January 24, 2010 @ 01:36:08 PM (cont'd) who wants to to download hundreds of dollars (at today's prices) worth of older games in seconds. Stick to the original consoles, if at all possible. There are plenty of ways online to buy the same original games for pennies. This should be free to Gold members, I can't really see how I get my money's worth without them ransoming the ability to host your own online games. |

Monday, January 25, 2010 @ 11:28:40 AM Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, and maybe even 4 or bust. God only knows why the F-U-C-K they haven't put out either 1 or 2, or 1 and 2 yet. They were 2 of the most successful arcade games of the 90s. They came out with a 2nd Street Fighter, coming out with a 2nd King of Fighters game, now it's time for a 2nd Mortal Kombat, A-Fucking-SAP |

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 @ 07:43:04 PM I can confirm that Game Room does have achievements. In the CES 2010 video for this on Inside Xbox, during a game of Tempest, an achievement popped up on the screen. This achievement was called My First Medal, and it was 5G. The video also shows a screen with some medals on it. These are are the medals they wr probably talking about. Something tells me one of the games will have a medal for multiple playthroughs of the game. In this case, don't expect to get all the achievements of a game on one try. |

Sunday, January 31, 2010 @ 03:07:27 PM Hey, the math is simple. If the games that don't exist yet have achievements, my arcade room is going to be REALLY full... lol. (because the cat above mentioned Tempest as proof, but that already exists in X-Box world. I'm looking at the "newer" ones that will come available with this, like Yar's Revenge & such. However, as my roommate would be just as prone to buy these as I would, do these have the same things as regular arcade games that are downloaded in that if he buys one, I get to play it and vice versa? If so, I have a feeling all 30 are getting bought day one. I don't mind cash grabs as long as I get some thing out of it, which completing 30 arcade games sounds pretty bad ass to me! :-p And as much as I'm hearing the whole "let's have arcade games from the late 90's" |

Monday, February 01, 2010 @ 12:27:00 AM $3 a game isn't really a big deal especially since you get the arcade cab and supposedly perfect translation. (the sound in TRON is eeh... at best) I'll certainly only buy a few that I havn't already. Now I know what to do with the $300 I saved by NOT buying a P$3 in addition to my 360. :D |
