Chatterbox Achievement in Tomb Raider

  • Chatterbox

    5

All conversations with the Endurance crew completed.

  • How to unlock Chatterbox

There are times in the game where you can talk to people from the Endurance crew. There will be an  icon above their heads. Keep talking to them until it doesn't show the prompt anymore. You should see the game saving in the lower right hand corner of the screen when this happens. This is a missable achievement if you don't remember to do it when the time comes. Also remember that if you die or reload your checkpoint, don't forget to talk to them again if it starts you near them. Talking to everyone on this list will get you the achievement. It is possible that only the conversations that lead to the game saving are required, but it's better to play it safe than sorry.

    Highly Missable Achievement Warning

Conversation Set 1: After you obtain a med pack and heal up Roth, there will be a brief cut scene and he will give you a climbing tool. Keep talking to him while he is sitting by the fire.

Conversation Set 2: During a cut scene, Roth will talk to you about sacrifice. After the scene he will sit on a chair by the fire. Talk to him here.

Conversation Set 3: After quite a while playing through the game, you will be able to talk to 3 survivors after meeting up with them at the beach area. Talk to all three until you can no longer do so.

Conversation Set 4: You will be given a new bow on the beach. Once this happens, keep talking to the guy who gave it to you. Then go towards the other members of the group (Whitman and Sam. There is a roof with a blue tarp on it, and they are under it. After that, you must go to the boat where you first talked to the people in the above conversation set. Talk to the lone girl there.

Conversation Set 5: After finally getting the tools needed for the Survivors, it will be night time on the beach. Under the blue tarp roof again, you'll find the last few conversations. The last one will be with Jonah a little ways towards the next objective.

  • how do you do this after you have already completed the game?
  • ?????????? how open this
  • It looks like you have to start the game over if you missed this. I did too unfortunately. There is no indication that any of the crew are going to talk to you so I have no idea when you are supposed to do this?!
  • ah!!! missed this but i am guessing whenever you see a crew member near try and talk to them.
  • Yeah, the bitch of this is that the game doesn't tell you you CAN talk to them. The freakin manual consists on 1 useful page. There is a random loading screen that says 'Press X' to talk to your crew members, but by the time I saw it Whitman was already gone.
  • Should a game have to tell you that you are able talk to people? I think people who are actually into the story would figure this out on their own right away.
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9flCTdLqO8 During the course of the story there are 7 occasions where you can talk to your friends. You will have to listen to everything they have to say. If you miss one single conversation you cannot get this trophy / achievement in your current playthrough anymore. You need to keep talking to everyone until the Square X symbol above their head is gone. You will also see the TR auto-save logo flashing in the bottom right corner of the screen when all conversations with one person are done. You need to talk to the following people: #1 - Before searching for 50 pieces of salvage, talk to Whitman. #2 - After finding the 50 pieces of salvage, talk to Whitman again (do not repair the Axe yet!) #3 - After helping Roth (where the wolves attack him), t
  • #3 - After helping Roth (where the wolves attack him), talk to Roth. #4 - Shortly after getting the Rope Arrows you will meet Roth again. Talk to him before using the zipline. #5 - When reaching the shipwreck beach you will meet your friends. Talk to Sam, Reyes and Jonah. #6 - Before going to the Endurance to help Alex and get the tools, talk to Whitman, Sam, Jonah and Reyes at the beach camp. Reyes is on the boat. #7 - After coming back from the Endurance, talk to Whitman, Reyes and Jonah.
  • Thanks #7 and #8 To bad I already missed this achievement :(
  • *spoiler* At what point of the game is this? BEFORE or AFTER you upgrade the axe and use it to open the door?
  • Nice job and thank you for posting that PowerPyx! I'm about half way finished with my current game so I won't be able to get this right now. Not complaining, I wanted to have another play through anyways :D
  • Good job man, Helped alot Cheers
  • Looks like ive got to start the game again
  • Ffs I stood beside Whitman and pressed every button. Nothing happened. So POd right now. Third bloody play thru!
  • Is anyone else having trouble with the second part of the whitman convo after the salvage? The Chat command isnt coming up, i didn't make the new axe or anything?
  • I had a third dialogue with Whitman AFTER upgrading the pry axe but BEFORE opening the gate.
  • Forget this, I'm not playing the whole game again just for 5 lousy g!
  • cant speak to Whitman second time??
  • Can't believe I just got this :) Though I would have missed one.
  • In order to get all 3 dialogues with Whitman, I ran directly up to him at the temple and didn't pick up anything or shoot the totems. I did kill the two wolves that attack just after crossing the bridge, but then just ran straight up. Whitman has his little cutscene and I talked to him right afterward (1). He then tells me to upgrade my pry axe. I found exactly 50 points of salvage and came straight back to him and he had another dialogue for me (2). Then I upgraded the axe, but before opening the gate, I walked up to Whitman again and there was a third conversation with him (3).
  • Ps3 and xbox must be different xbox guid Opportunity #1: Whitman will help Lara open a door requiring a Pry Axe upgrade. Speak with him before opening the door. Opportunity #2: After Lara acquires the Climbing Axe, speak with Roth right afterwards. Opportunity #3: Talk to Roth before investigating the smoke down the mountain. Opportunity #4: Speak with Reyes, Sam and Jonas before leaving to check out the Galleaon, Lara will return to Shipwreck Beach while there’s daylight. Opportunity #5: Find and talk to Reyes, Whitman, Jonah, and Sam on Shipwreck Beach before leaving to explore the Endurance crash. Opportunity #6: Return to Shipwreck Beach and talk to Reyes, Jonah and Whitman right before leaving to go to the Research Base.
  • This was a fail for me... looks like I get 2 playthroughs.... annoyed!
  • PowerPyx's guide up there worked perfectly for me. And yeah, make sure not to scavenge anything before talking to Whitman.
  • Didn't even know this was an option. Shame on me for assuming the secrets were story-related.
  • OMG thats so shit that its a hidden achievement, so you have no indication whatsoever that you should be doing it or that its possible. so bad.
  • there is six convo's in total and they have to be activated at exacltly the right times you must exaust convo too don't just hit x once the doctor ar the door before axe upgrade then two in village with the guy that's attacked by wolfs ( both camp locations} then everyone at beach 3x later on I would video guide it because as I said done in wrong order will stp it poping
  • powerpyx guy has great video just don't worry if the doctor will only speak to you once at the beginning before axe upgrade as I say if you exaust convos properly he will only talk once{ 5 or 6 times you will press x}
  • are these in 1 playthrough or can you do it in multiple, (kinda missed the 1st 2 lol)
  • That feeling when you go to collect salvage, make your axe all nice and perty, and then take a moment and check on what those secret achivos were..... Guess I'm playing through this again at some point. Can't honestly say I mind it though. It has been fun.
  • @27 I hope your right!!
  • @27 I'd love some confirmation on this since I didn't get a second o third convo with Whitman and don't want to continue only to find out at the end that I should have restarted.
  • This is a terrible achievement. The game never tells you that you can actually talk to your crew mates. The few times I did see if you could a cut scene is prompted leading me to believe that that's it. Great game but what a stupid achievement.
  • I can verify that u only need to talk to Whitman the one time at the start
  • Like #28 I missed the first 2 guys, do I have to play the entire game again or just till the 2 guys I've missed?
  • I exhausted the conversation options with Whitman before gathering salvage to upgrade the axe. After collecting the salvage I returned to Whitman and there was no option to talk to him again. I went to the camp and tried to back out before upgrading the axe but it forced me to before I could exit. What I gather is PowerPyx didn't exhaust all the conversation before gathering the salvage, and finished it up after collecting the salvage. I guess the point is to not upgrade the axe before exhausting the conversation.
  • LOL, fuck a second playthrough for this.
  • Also an early contender for shittest tile of the year.
  • I thought I talked to everyone. I was going to play it three times anyway just to go through all the difficulties but i wanted to have this done by now so I could just play the game and not have to worry about this stuff. And Whitman won't talk to me besides one time and I did it the way everyone is saying to do it.
  • its only 5 points I am not going to play this game twice just for it
  • Damn I missed stupid Whitman #1 and #2, here goes another playthrough...
  • or not :D just got it after tlaking to Reyes before going to research base thx #21
  • Does the achievement pop up after the end of the game or right after we done the final conversation with the crews in the middle of gameplay?
  • @43 - It will pop right after talking to the last crew member, assuming all conversations have been exhausted.
  • @30: The exact moment I read about this achievement. But it is fun and one day a second Playthrough seems okay. Stupid Achievement nevertheless.
  • @21 Thank you! Worked perfectly
  • The second I saw what this achievement was I knew I was going to have to replay through the single player campaign again. Oh well, it was quite enjoyable. Thanks for the tips, everyone. ;)
  • Surely you should get more than 5g? Like they are trolling you when you know havent got it!
  • READ THIS!!! I missed talking to Whitman the first time he is with you at the gate and still got the achievement. Roth is the first character I spoke to and I made sure I talked to everyone as they came up after that. If you missed Whitman don't worry, keep talking to everyone else. My achievement popped on the beach after I spoke to everyone after collecting the tools.
  • @49 I missed talking to Whitman the first time but didn't miss talking to anyone else the entire game and I did not receive the achievement.
  • @49 is correct about Whitman. I missed talking to Whitman other than just the required cutscene and then came to this thread. After seeing EludingKarma's post I figured I'd go for it without doing a restart. I DID get the achievement. I talked to Roth a number of times, and to the entire "crew" a number of times at the beach. Basically, go talk with them between ANY significant events are completed. New dialogue is available that you need to exhaust. Achievo popped right after talking to the last person prior to climbing up the tall elevator tower/thing that can be accessed only after getting the rope puller thingamajig.
  • Just got this in one sitting lol YAWN!!!
  • I think the real question is why would they make a secret achievement that you can miss?
  • I was actually looking for a reason for another playthrough. I do agree that this shouldn't have been a secret achievement though. I mean if you want to "force" a gamer to do multiple playthrough's do the typical difficulty settings cheevs. I, like others, didn't even realize you could talk to members till I saw the loading screen halfway through the game. Eitherway to all you people saying this is a gamebreaker yap yap... If a 1.5X playthrough is a game breaker, why are you even an achievement hunter, go play lego games, or some other score whore 1000. This is far too easy to get, and my main complaint with this game is there isn't a low scored hard achievement for completionists. Beat the game on hard in less than 5 lives?
  • Well, good thing I came across this when I did. I was just at getting Number 3 and had missed Numbers 1 and 2. Best to restart now so I have less to replay.
  • This isn't working for me. The only story-line one I've missed. I talk to Whitman before collecting 50 salvage to repair my axe, then after collecting 50,before repairing it, you're supposed to go back and talk to him again, but there's nothing more he is saying. I've watched a how-to video, and I'm doing everything the way they did, but Whitman isn't saying anything else.
  • Talked to them all but I didn't get the achievement I'm super mad , I started over for this achievement :(
  • I figured out the second conversation with Whitman not appearing thing. You need to go to the statue of the buddah lady thing and Lara talks to herself. Then go back to Whitman and he has several new things to say. I did not collect 50 salvage yet either only 40 at the time. I don't think it has anything to do with the salvage just don't upgrade the ax cause then he wants to open the door immediately instead of talking. Hope this helps out those who couldn't get the second conversation with Whitman.
  • Bloody ASSASSINS CREED all over again ARGHHHHHHHHH
  • worst achievement ever i did all seven i paid even close attention to the video and took @58 comment did all 7 and still didn't do it. A third play though for a crappy 5g.
  • I wouldn't rate this a 1, except that it's a secret achievement for no reason other than to piss us off... Things like that get on my nerves, and apparently I'm not alone feeling like this.
  • For whitman 2nd convo READ: No budda statue thing above is non nonsense. Didn't work. All I did was run around for an eternity collecting crap/killing wolves and kept checking back. Finally He finished out his second set of convos for me. I had to wait like 10-15 mins though.
  • arrr WHY..? and only worth 5, WHY..?
  • I can confirm that you do not necessarily need to speak to Whitman at the start ALL OF THE TIMES to get the achievement. On my second playthrough (just to get this achievement) I only talked to him before you get the salvage and didn't get any conversations after getting the salvage with him, decided to continue through the entire rest of the game and spoke to everyone else and got the achievement on the beach after that ship that you come back from.
  • Do you have to talk to everyone in one save, or can it be done in multiple games if you missed the first one?
  • I did this 4 times over missing the one on the boat
  • I'm pretty sure I figured out Whitmans 2nd convo issue. After you first approach him in front of the door and initiate the conversation, exhausting all dialogue options, he then tells you to go upgrade your axe, once you collect 50 salvage points and try to go back, I don't believe he'll be accessible for another dialogue option UNTIL you kill all of the wolves. For me, that's when the 2nd dialogue option popped up but I also collected all of the salvage boxes that I could find in that area which gave me a total of 100 salvage points altogether. Also, right in front of the camp fire closest to Whitman is another pathway leading to an area in which you'll be welcomed by two wolves, that's how you'll know that's the area I'm talking about. Make sure to explore that small are too! I think thi
  • I think this is what causes the Whitman issue, but I hope it helps*
  • This was a fail for me, I did all the chats except the first one with Jonah. No matter what I did it would not let me speak with Jonah before going to the Endurance.
  • I was trying to do this one and a few other kill types my second play through but missed the first 2 Whitman ones. I tried to do #5 with Reyes, Jonah and Sam but as I got near them, the X didn't appear(after picking up the pulley). Am I the only one who that has happened to? If I restart a game on the same save as this one, would the previous kills go toward Former Adventure achieve?
  • Am I only the one who isn't disappointed that I fucked this up? I can't wait to play again!
  • 5G for a achievement that it's very easy to miss. Hoo-freaking-Ray -.-
  • OMG I missed convo set 3 now I can't get this achievement? Fuck me and fuck this stupid game.
  • Can I do some in one play-through and then get the rest in another?
  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h3askjV3rA&feature=c4-overview&list=UU6QtcwzvD5aU7aTDu6Fp8VA *Achievement/Trophy Hunters*
  • Based on the description of this achievement up top, I kept a sharp lookout for the first convo(this is my second playthrough) which it says is with Roth after getting back the med kit. Now I'm reading more comments about the convo with Whittman which I didn't do. Am I going to have to do ANOTHER playthrough just to get this and if so, will it pop after I talk to Whittman, which is very close to the beginning or should I just start over now??
  • There is a missing Section that u forgot to Put in... Lara Has to Talk to that Guy (Chief Archeologist) Before U get The First Salvage then Again After And Before U Upgrade Ur Axe
  • I never knew this was an achievement till after i finished the game but thanks to this i managed to get it without to much trouble and had fun playing again
  • @49 I can confirm that I did NOT speak to Whitman at the gate (I was following this guide and didn't realise you could talk to him there) but made sure to speak to everyone as the guide had outlined, achievement popped right after my final conversation with Jonah on the beach.
  • 5g for this bullshit.
  • SPOILERS Maybe its somewhat of an inside joke. The fact the Whitman conversation doesn't count for the achievement...him being a POS and all.
  • Im hoping this achievement is gonna be as quirky as it seems like it will be. I was at the 2nd encounter...and accidentally fell off a cliff while trying to find the pilot. I had thought the game saved at least 3-4 times between the conversation and the death. Just to be safe I went back to Roth...and was able to talk to him all over again. If thats the case...thats ridiculous how the game will specifcally NOT save that meanwhile having an achievement about that. I had picked up like 7 collectables and was even checkpointed right near the pilot. Hopefully its irrelevant and would have still counted if I didnt go back or else I see myself having problems with this one...
  • Is everyone sure that dying after exhausting a characters conversation resets it so that you have to do it again...?
  • Don't stress about Whitman - not needed.
  • Confirmed~ You do not need to talk to Whitman for this achievement. Just follow the guide provided and you will get it. Also if you have exhausted a characters conversations and then die you do not to speak to them again even if you have the option to do so as it has already saved and noted the fact that you spoke to said character.
  • Looks like I have to replay the Single Player all over again.
  • Looks like I have to replay the Single Player all over again. I missed the first one, this is probably the most annoying achievement for TR.
  • This achievement is a pain in the butt if you miss it you got to replay all over again ,but you dont need to upgrade ,just get to a survivor and talk to him ,thats it. Overall ,this achievement is not worth getting ,dont replay the game for lousy 5g!
  • Your wrong - you would replay the game cause it's amazing & this time don't miss any conversations lol - FCKUING AN AMAZING GAME BOYEAH
  • All these people bitching about how they need to replay it. Lay the game down for a while and enjoy the ride once more ;)
  • I'm on the beach getting the boat ready to leave the island and I just noticed this achievement. Fuck me. They screw you in more ways than one. Not only do they not prompt anything to tell you about this but it's also a secret achievement. Assholes. Screw you Square Enix. Might as well start over now. Goddamn. 5 fucking points.
  • 5G is pretty shit for this acheivement, but I do think it's a great game worth replaying regardless. Defintely put it down for a while and go back to it. Great mechanics - apart from the QTEs (except when you gain an upgrade like the rocket launcher - those QTEs were cool!)
  • I missed this achievment so i'm stuck on 995 gamerscore right now, don't mind it tho.. Was planning to replay the game anyways
  • #6 xbeaux - There's always one spastic fanboy who'll talk out their arse to defend the indefensible. The developers clearly messed up and don't understand that secret achievements are either fun quirky ones or hidden due to plot spoilers. Should never be missable! Still, this crap has saved me from mopping up the others and online ones which I'd have probably done otherwise. ...Rise of the Tomb Raider will be great...
  • this one is glitching on me.I play on xbox one and I did the guide, but in my achievement list,it is saying, its unlocking?
  • Does anyone know if this carries over multiple saves?
  • Don't worry about missing Dr. Whitman at the gate in the second area. It is not needed. Just follow the guide.
