Introduction:
Not much to introduce really, it’s Tetris. It’s the first game I’ve ever played and that probably goes for most people. Unfortunately the WP7 version isn’t a very good version. For the first few games you’ll be frustrated as the game doesn’t respond very well to the tactile, especially if you’ve played the iphone/ipod touch version before. However, once you get used to it, you’ll find a thoroughly enjoyable game. It comes with the standard marathon version of the game as well as 12 variant games, all of which must be completed on the hardest difficulty. Some will find this really hard and some will find this really easy, it truly depends on how good you are at Tetris and how good you are at making decisions quickly. You can track how far along you are by selecting Highlights at the main menu then Feats. Helpful tip: to pause, press the back button; it took me a while to figure it out.

Step 1: Marathon
Play through the marathon game; it’s the original one that we all know. You have to get through to the end which means completing all fifteen levels. You can also start the marathon game at level 15 and clear 75 lines, which I find is quicker.

Step 2: Variants
You’ll need to complete every single variant on level 15. It may sound hard at first, but most of these variants are really easy once you get the hang of them. I’d suggest playing through them on an easy level for a while then playing through them again on level 15. Don’t get discouraged, I’m not a beast at Tetris and I managed to get these so you probably will too.

Step 3: Mop up
Last step is to get the last achievements. They’ll probably be Tetriminator, Spinmaster and Waterfall. See the achievement guide for any achievements that you have left.

There are 11 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • You have cleared 12 lines or more in one turn.

This isn’t a great achievement to start off with as there isn’t much to say about it. If you do a Youtube search, you’ll surely find a really hard way to do this but the way I managed was to play on the gravity variant and make good use of gravity. You should be getting this without trying while on your variant playthrough and to be honest, it’s probably much harder if you try to get this.

  • Expert

    30

You have completed the Radical variant.

This is the hardest variant of them all, you’ll get the impression level 15 is level 2. The Tetrominos basically just appear at the bottom. To unlock this variant you need to have completed every other variant. Refer to the Master achievement for further information.

  • You have completed a game with an average TPM of 35 or more.

TPM stands for Tetrominos per minute. I found my average was usually around 30 so I went into the Origin variant and just slammed every Tetrominos down until the game was complete without going for anything crazy like Tetrises or T-spins. If you’re having trouble, you should get this during the Radical variant as long as you don’t spend too much time rotating and placing the Tetrominos.

  • Master

    20

    You have reached 100% Completion.

For this you’ll need to complete Marathon and every variant on level 15 (apart from Radical). Marathon, the first variant (which is a short marathon) and gravity are the easiest and don’t require anything in particular. Be sure to use your hold function as it’s extremely useful.

Treadmill is like normal except that with every Tetrominos you place the bottom moves, it’s a bit confusing at first but then you get the hang of it and it even makes the game easier.

Gravity means that if ever you would have had a floating single piece, it now falls. This is essential for Cascades. If you play smart you won’t ever need the Gravity function.

Flood is when the matrix fills from the bottom. This is the first tricky one. Quickly dispatch every line as fast as you can as it can get out of hand very fast. As far as I can tell the holes in the flood lines are random.

Ledges is pretty straightforward and there isn’t much to say.

Laser is where it starts to get tricky, really the only tip is the same as for the other variants, be as quick as you can and don’t try to get novelty moves.

Magnetic is pretty straightforward, although you’ll find yourself cursing yourself over how dumb you are.

Scanner is pretty straightforward and not too complicated although things can get out of hand fast if you’re not quick. You can try to get the Dodecadent achievement here although it’s pretty tricky; to do so hold an I-shaped object and stack as many lines as you can, leaving either on the far right or on the far left enough room (and just enough room) to fit three Is one on top of the other and when the scan goes you should have cleared 12 lines. This is the method to finish games with only Tetrises, it’s sort of tricky at first but once you’re used to it it’s a breeze.

Split isn’t that bad, the matrix is separated in two and you have to keep clearing lines. It’s absolutely essential that you use the hold function here.

Chill is where it starts to get really hard. You have three placements before the objects start to freeze into place. There are three stages to freezing: blue (which isn’t frozen), light blue and gray. You can clear a line with blue and light blue objects but gray will stay in place until their line is cleared which makes them turn light blue. You basically have to take them down twice. This gets kind of annoying as they’ll get stuck in weird places sometimes. It’s from this point on where you probably won’t get complete the variants on your first try on level 15.

Flashlight is sort of hard. It helps to have a photographic memory. When you clear a line the matrix will light up which helps immensely.

Best for last, Radical variant. By far the hardest one although to be honest, they could have done it a lot harder (by mixing in some elements from other variants for instance). Be quick and sneak your way around by turning the Tetrominos. I got this on my third try I think; it’s hard but not impossible.

That should net you the 100%.

  • You have cleared 1000 Lines.

If you haven’t gotten this by the end of your variant playthrough, you have very little to go. In fact I’m not sure it’s possible to get this before getting 100% completion unless you’re a complete beast. To make things easier go on Marathon, and just grind through it clearing lines. It makes things much more interesting by trying to complete marathon by getting only Tetrises, which also helps for the Tetriminator achievement.

  • You have completed a variant with novelty moves only (Cascades, Tetrises® or T-Spins).

I thought it was all three of those in one game at first, but you can do it with only one of those. The easiest would be to complete a variant using only Tetrises. Go on either the Origin or Gravity variant and stack objects perfectly leaving just enough space on the left or the right for a Tetris. Not too hard once you get the hang of it.

  • You have performed 25 T-Spins.

To make things easier, go on marathon and try to set them up. If you see a spot where a T shaped object would fit block its path and get it in by spinning it. You can see how far along you are by selecting Highlights in the main menu then Feats.

  • You have accumulated 90 minutes of play time.

You’ll probably be getting this before you unlock every achievement unless you’re really good.

  • You have performed 100 Tetrises®.

    See On A Role.

  • You have performed 50 Cascade line clears.

  • You have cleared 44 or more lines in a variant.

Follow the guide for Waterfall for when you're at 1-2 lines left, just make sure you have more than five or six lines to clear.
