Introduction.
Welcome to Streets of Rage 2. Difficulty is based on the simplicity of beat-em-up games in general, the ability to save anytime in an offline game, and time investment needed. Achievements requiring the hardest difficulty may require multiple attempts. There are some tricks that can help you get through this outlined below.

Playthrough 1.
In this playthrough we are going to set the difficulty to very easy and lives to max. Go to the controller options and put the special move to a button you will not use (I put it on a shoulder button). Start the game being Axel or Max, proceed to the end of Stage 2, and kill Jet. Here’s a little trick that you can so you don't have to beat him on Hardcore. When he’s dying, pause the game and Save. Now quit to the main menu and start a game up on Hardcore play it for around 30 seconds back out to main menu and start up your saved game on Easy. When Jet dies and stage 3 starts up, you will get the achievement for beating him on Hardcore. Just continue to play game to the end.

When you have finished the game you should have these achievements: Pipe Wielder, Knife Wielder, Psycho, Perfect Boss (All gained on the first stage very easy) Forth Boss (Simply beat the forth boss) Kill Jet (Refer to above description for this), Hard Win (Complete to game without using a special move) and Perfect Win (Complete the game without continuing).

Playthrough 2.
This is where the game gets a little more difficult. This playthrough will net you the High Score achievement. Although the achievement says get 800,000 on Hardcore, there is a little trick you can do that makes it little easier.

What you want to do is set up a game on Hard and lives to max. Play the game picking up everything and killing everyone (Refer to achievement guide for boss tips Etc.)
Now, when you get close to 800,000, lets say around 795,000, save your game, back out and start a game up on hardcore. Play it for 30 seconds back out, start up your saved game and then just get the extra 5,000 points and the achievement unlocks.

Note: You cannot use continue on this playthrough so make sure you save often and play smart.

Playthrough 3, Co-op.
This is very easy. Get a buddy or find a partner HERE, set the game to very easy and lives max. Just play the game to the end, which takes around a 30 minutes to an hour. You can also earn all other non-Versus achievements playing co-op, so whatever you haven't gotten yet, go ahead and finish off here. Remember, it's has to be on Xbox Live, not Local.

Online Achievements.
This game is dead online, so it can be boosted very easily within half an hour. Grab a buddy or find a partner HERE, set up the game and have him/her find you and let you win. Ten wins will do it, either Player or Ranked.

Conclusion.
That covers the essentials. There's not much to it for this one, but don't take it too lightly. If you just put in the time, you'll get them no problem. If you have any problems refer to the achievement guide or forums. Have fun!

There are 12 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • Wield the pipe in single-player or co-op mode.

    (1)

Just look for a pipe lying around and pick it up, simple. There are weapons all around in the first stage. Check breakable objects for the best chance to find something. If you unintentionally skip over a few, it's likely several enemies will wield a pipe in the level. You can simply knock them down and pick it up for yourself.

  • Wield the knife in single player or co-op mode.

Just look for a knife lying around and pick it up, simple. Check breakable objects or steal one from an enemy, same as "Pipe Wielder".

  • Psycho

    15

Kill 10 enemies without losing your weapon.

This is easy enough on the easy difficulties. Max is a good character selection as his swings hit front and back.

The key is caution, especially on higher difficulties. Most of the time, it's best to let them come to you, unless they have a range attack that your weapon will not cover. A pipe or sword is best, since they have a long attack range and do a lot of damage (excluding Skate). If you're having a hard time, you can save every time you get a few kills and reload as necessary.

  • Beat the first boss without dying.

Barbon is trivial on easy difficulties, but could be a bit tricky on higher ones. Just try and get rid of his goons before he rips off his shirt. Jump kicks and directional specials are a good way to take him down quickly.

Here's a few points to remember:

    • Barbon has a throwing move and he's not shy on using it on higher difficulties. There's an easy counter; if you are thrown by any enemy, simply hold up and jump while in the air until you land, and you'll be on your feet with no damage.
    • Barbon is an opportunistic fighter; he'll hang back for a little bit, and then rush in for a quick combo. You can be faster on the punch when he comes in, but specials are more reliable, and Offensive Specials hurt even more.
    • Approach slowly when you're about to face him to trigger his minions first. They're not too much trouble, but it always helps to keep the battlefield clean of distractions.
    • Don't forget the chicken in the trash bin if you're in trouble.

  • Beat the fourth boss.

Abadede is no joke on most any difficulty; he hits fast and hard, can break out of combos and grabs and has high damaging uppercuts and suplexes that can really put a hurt on you. This doesn't have to be done without dying so just merely get past him. Try not to stay too far away for any extended period of time (his charge is deadly), and attack when he's left himself open after a missed lunge. Alternately, if you're series vet, a good tactic is to keep your distance and let him run at you, then jump kick him. Now back off, rinse and repeat.

Here's a few points to remember:

    • Don't try and throw him at any time. He'll always grab you first, and his suplex is extremely painful. Try to look for moments where he's distracted doing something else, like missing an attack.
    • If you're feeling lucky, most every attack except for his grab and lunge can be stopped with a perfectly timed jump kick. It's not something to lean on, but it's great for stopping him in his tracks.
    • If you're going Single Player, save often, and don't take unnecessary risks. This is not a boss to trifle with.

  • Beat another player on Xbox Live in a versus match.

    See "Online Warrior".

  • Beat 10 opponents on Xbox Live in versus mode.

If you've got a friend, this can be easily boosted with either a Player or Ranked match. Going up against an actual opponent will depend on your skill.

If you're faced with an actual player:

    • If specials are turned on, it's a great break-out move for combos and grabs alike. You may end up doing more damage than you take as well.
    • If you're a slower character, use weapons whenever you can to keep your distance.
    • An opponent using Axel can be a harsh fight, especially if he abuses Grand Upper (a cheap uppercut combo that makes the user near invincible). Attack when he's open and toss weapons at him to discourage him making the approach.
    • The opponent is invulnerable for a second or two after getting up to give him a chance to fight back. Back off after you've knocked him down to avoid getting hit with some cheap shots.
    • Play cautiously and take chances when you see them. Good luck.

  • Complete an online co-op game.

An Xbox Live co-op game must be played to a conclusion. The most obvious path is completing the entire game. Invite a buddy, set the difficulty to very easy, max out those lives and this is an easy half hours work.

You will also get credit if you get a Game Over too.

  • Score 800,000 points in one game -- with Game Settings set to Hardcore.

    (13)

This is no easy feat at all and is probably the hardest achievement to get. Hardcore mode only grants you 1 life at the beginning and your best bet is to play through in Single Player and collect everything whilst beating everyone up. There are at least 5 extra lives hidden around the game and they can be found at:

    • Level 1 - as soon as you walk onto the screen go to the bottom left corner and attack the wall.
    • Level 2 (the Bridge) - After you exit the fight in the truck, go back behind the truck cab and it can be found by attacking the top left of the screen.
    • Level 3 (Pirate Ship) - there are 2 crates in this mini section; 1 has an apple inside, the other has the 1up.
    • Level 3 (Ghost Train) - When you approach the fight with the monster that comes out of the wall but before you trigger him, there is a 1up under his head at the very bottom and in the middle of the screen.
    • Level 7 (Factory) - There is a 1up in a Barrel about half way into this level. Just destroy everyone you find until it appears.

Also, you gain an extra life at 20,000, 50,000 and every multiple of 100,000 from then on.

Plus look out for some different named characters like V-3 etc these guys give you extra points for killing them.

    Tips for killing the bosses:

    • Level 1 (Barbon) - If playing as Axel, this guy goes down quite easily to Grand Uppers, just dispatch his cronies before triggering him. Otherwise, he's much more aggressive than you'll be used to, but his throws should be no threat with your recovery ability, and you're still more skilled in a ground fight. Watch for blocks and throw for serious damage when you get a chance.
    • Level 2 (Jet) - Keep the heck away from Jet. His grab attack is nothing to scoff at, and you won't have time to react to his charges if you're close to him. Preferably, stay at the opposite side of the screen and jump kick him whenever he makes a move on you.
    • Level 3 (Zamza) - A really cool character and one I always wished I could play as. Again, if using Axel he goes down easily to Grand Uppers and grab combo's. If not using Axel, your biggest problem is that he is a very mobile target and likes to lunge across the screen quite a lot. Grabs are mostly useless, as he'll follow up with a suplex of his own right off the bat. Jump kick on any attack except his upper lunge and Special finish him if you've got health to spare.
    • Level 4 (Abadede) - You can get owned or lose a lot of lives if you try and get too close to this guy as combo's and grab combo's will only get you hurt. With Axel your best bet is to do quick, high damage moves like Grand Uppers or Tiger Punch. Using anyone else, I found jump kicks especially useful since it's tough to go toe-to-toe with this guy. Always dodge the lunge; he's just too high up to hit with your jump kick. Finally, as with any attempt on this guy, do NOT attempt to grab him unless you are absolutely certain it will work AND that you will throw him immediately afterward.
    • Level 5 (R.Bear) - A serious headache. Make sure as many of his minions are dead before you actually set him off to keep the battlefield clean. Watch out for the lunges and the vicious headbutt grab. Do not hesitate to use specials if he's got you clean and abuse any weapon you have if you happen to have kept it thus far.
    • Level 6 (Souther & Stealth) - Ok this is a very tricky combo to face. Try and focus your attention on Souther as killing him will drop the Jet clone as well. Where as taking out Stealth will still leave you with Souther. Use the same techniques as killing Zamza.
    • Level 7 (Particle & Molecule) - This fight can either be a bit of a break or somewhat annoying. Neither robot's attacks do any deadly amount of damage by themselves, but they have a rather large range on their swing, are always jumping around the screen and are generally trying to distance themselves from you. Make your grabs fast or they'll give you a shock. Also, don't let them hover around low health for too long or they'll blow themselves up near you for a cheap kill.
    • Level 8 (Boss Rush) - The lift is small, so there's not a whole lot of room in your fights. The boss order is the Stage 1 boss, then Stage 3 boss, then Stage 5 boss (Different names, of course). You'll get a solid health boost every section of the elevator, so try not to lose any lives near the end of a fight. Refer to the above strategies, although your biggest problem will likely be the Stage 3 boss combined with an Electra.
    • Level 8 (Shiva) - One of the most unfair fights to be sure; he counters your combo after the first hit lands, blocks whenever he feels like it, and has some seriously damaging options at his discretion. Don't bother with combos, as he'll flame you in the face after the first hit connects. Mind the time limit, don't hover for too long, and take any open opportunity. Specials are the absolute best strategy if you have it to spare.
    • Level 8 (Mr. X) - The final fight could be worse. His machine gun spray is a wide 90 degree angle, but it doesn't do too much damage if you happen to get caught. Your biggest concern is his rifle butt, which does a harsh amount of damage and puts you away from him. Time your grabs, never get surrounded by his minions and avoid the back end of that rifle at all costs -- you're going to be hurting for lives at this point and you cannot continue, no matter what.

The general strategy is to smash everything you can, kill everything you see and save often to avoid a huge headache from failure. The 800,000 comes at the very end of the game, so you may expect yours thereabouts unless you clock faster times. Good luck.

Note: If you just can't complete it on Hardest even with save abuse, there's a good strategy mentioned in the Roadmap. To recap:

Start a game on Hard difficulty with 8 lives. Play with the "kill everything, collect everything" mentality until you're about to hit 800,000 (just short about 5,000 will do). Save your game and exit to the menu. Start a new game on Hardcore, and play for around 30 seconds. Exit, and immediately load your Hard save. Get the rest of the points you need, and it should click. Nice!

  • Defeat Boss 'Jet' at the end of Stage 2 -- with Game Settings set to Hardcore.

    (3)

You'll be getting this on your way to "High Score". Check that acheivement description for an additional strategy to defeat Jet. Prior to the fight, try and collect the extra lives and accumulate enough for about 3-4 lives by the time you get to the fight. Watch out for her goons and the second jet character called Tomcat. One of the best ways of taking these flying characters out is by letting them fly across the screen, jump kicking them, back off and then rinse and repeat.

**Something that will help for the "High Score" and "Kill Jet" achievements is that you can save at any time during the game, so save it constantly. Even after every group of enemies, it may take a while but will make this easier.

If you just can't get this, you can always resort to the trick outlined in the Roadmap.

  • Beat the game without using a special attack.

    (3)

This will feel very annoying to do; you won't break out of combos or grabs anymore, which means you'll be taking the max damage every time. Play on a low difficulty to maximize your chances and take a friend along if you can manage it. Probably the toughest part is resisting the urge to automatically do it. I recommend reassigning the button to an inconvenient place to reach if it becomes an issue.

  • Beat the game without continuing.

    (2)

You can get this on your way to "High Score" since you'll need to not continue anyway, but if you just want to get it out of the way, set it to Very Easy with 8 lives, and you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever.
