Introduction: Need for Speed: The Run, the next installment in the Need for Speed series. This game has its ups and downs but overall is a fairly enjoyable experience with the race from San Francisco to New York. It will take sometime but it is a rewarding completion. Now without further ado let’s get on with this roadmap.
Breakdown: You will get a fair few of the achievements from completing the single player campaign on a easier difficulty. Your second playthrough of the campaign will be on extreme difficulty. There are some miscellaneous achievements for taking photos and reading news articles. Some of the achievements are for beating your friends' times on a ‘stage’ of the run and for beating a recommendation on the speedwall. The online achievements are just for doing solo and group objectives as well as receiving the bonus wheel. You will have to complete the challenge series and get gold or better on each, there are 51 and some are fairly difficult. Finally there are achievements for ranking up and you will spend a lot of time reaching rank 30.
Single Player: The first thing you should do is play the single player campaign; you will get experience for completing races. The campaign is fairly short beyond the cut scenes and resets and should be about 2.30 hours of in game racing time. I recommend doing your first play through on easy as ‘Extreme’ difficulty does not unlock until you beat the game once. Just play through the campaign and you will unlock all story related achievements.
After completing your single player play through it is time for extreme difficulty, the only difference between Easy and Extreme is the amount of resets you get from 10 to only receving 1 per race. This can be challenging at some points but it’s not too bad - just take your time and by being persistent you will eventually unlock it.
For those that don’t want to play the campaign again on Extreme, there is a way to glitch it by playing the last stage (10) on a easy difficulty then when you get to the final race go the start menu and change the difficulty to extreme and just win the race and “Win at Winning” will pop. Here is a thread on how to do it.
Online/Autolog: There are 2 friend related achievements for the speedwall being:
King for a Day
What else you got?
King for the Day simply requires posting the fastest time on a stage of the run onto the speedwall. This would be easier the less friends you have that play the game and how good they are. It is possible to use a second profile to do this. The other is just beating a friend's recommendation on the speedwall for a challenge.
The online achievements are fairly simple. Just play the online and complete solo objectives, they are pretty easy and will come through by just playing online. The other achievements will require you to make a ‘group’ in multiplayer, so invite your friends and complete these objectives. You only have to do 5 and you can invite between one and three friends. The more friends the easier it will be but it is not essential. Finally the bonus wheel achievement, this is all about chance and winning the race. The wheel will spin and may land on the 75g achievement for either coming first or possibly being in the top 3. If you aren’t the best racer, you can find some people in the Achievement Trading Thread here.
Miscellaneous Achievements: These are really simple and require no effort:
Show Off (Requires Online Pass)
Just take a photo of a car and go to the autolog menu by pressing and scroll right 4 times. It's that easy,
Challenge Series: Oh boy, this will test your skill and patience. There are 51 events and you must hit gold on each. Some are fairly simple and some will drive you mad but the beauty of this is, if you keep trying you will eventually get it. Just pick the best car, fastest speed with the better handling. If you are not sure which car to pick check out the Achievement Guide below. Resets are your friend here, use them wisely and it helps to have friend that have completed these as there is a little feature that compares you on the track to one of your friends on the speed wall and you can see if you are doing well or not at all.
Ranking Up: After you finish every other achievement you will, mostly just have ranking up left to do in this game. You rank up in intervals of 5 from 1-30. You will probably have to grind a few races with big payouts. By the time you have every other achievement you should be around level 20. Getting to 30 is a pretty massive grind and it takes a lot of time. You can either play multiplayer (which will make it more fun but you won't receive as much experience) or you repeat Race 1 of Stage 8 in the run or by completing challenge 3 in the East Coast challenges ("Drive Hard").
Italian Pack Challenges (DLC): In the Italian Pack, there are 2 playlists with 5 races each. They are all pretty challenging for us non-elite drivers. Obviously, use a car that you are comfortable with. There are no new maps, so if you've played a majority of the challenges from the main game, you should be familiar with these. Refer to the guide below for help on selecting a vehicle if you're having problems.
Italian Pack Online (DLC): There is a separate playlist for playing the Italian cars. There are 20 new solo objectives to complete, and most require you to either come in first place with a specific car or first place in a session, hence the high difficulty rating. The only problem is that not all cars are available immediately. What I mean is, if you play a Tier 4 race, you won't get all the cars you need to beat the solo objectives. But generally Tiers 4 through 6 is what you want. Also, there are only three solo challenges unlocked at any given time, so you must complete those to unlock the others one at a time. You will also unlock more Italian cars as you complete every fifth objective.
Conclusion: The Run is a fun game. The achievements are fairly straight forward and do require some skill to complete. Use your resets wisely and take it easy with extreme difficulty. Getting to level 30 takes a lot of time, so be ready to race consistently.

Extreme is not available from the beginning. You must complete the game on any difficulty setting to unlock it. You can then either replay the whole story on extreme or go to Stage Select within the The Run menu and select Stage 10. Play through this on whatever difficulty until you get to the last race. Now pause the game and select gameplay settings and change the difficulty to Extreme. This will restart the race. Complete the race and this unlocks.
Go to Challenge series and select any race you have unlocked that a friend has put a time on. Beat their time and this will unlock. If you do not have any friends playing this then either find one in the achievement trading thread or use a second profile on your own console and add it as a friend. Set a time with that profile and then beat the time.
By playing through story challenges and multiplayer achievements you should be around level 20. After that comes the grind. You could just play online if you enjoy it enough or find a challenge to grind through. If you choose to play online then try to find someone to group with as you will get more XP for doing Group Objectives.
Refer to these videos for ways to earn experience quickly:
When you go into Xbox Live mode you can select a few playlists. Within each of these is a list of objectives. You get a small selection at one time to aim for. When you complete one of them it will usually unlock a new one to aim for. Complete 15 of these over a mix of any playlists you wish and you will get this achievement. The last playlist unlocks when you complete your 15th objective.
Within the Xbox Live menu you can press to Create a Playgroup. With this you need to invite a friend. You can create a group of up to 4 (including you). You will then get a group objective to aim for. Complete 5 of these to get the achievement.
When you complete a playlist of races on any online playlist mode you will get to pick the next location of races. Once the votes are done the bonus wheel will spin. At random it may land on "75 G achievement for first place session". If you get this then you have to finish first in the session. That means be the highest point scorer by the end of the session, not just in 1 race.
If you tie for first place then all players that are in the tie will unlock it. I unlocked this with 2 other racers. All of us had 50 points to tie first
Whilst playing through The Run you will see a list of your friends scores. You have to beat the overall time that your top friend has set within any 1 stage to get this. If you do not have any friends playing this then either find one in the achievement trading thread or use a second profile (with gold account) on your own console and friend it. Set a time on any stage with that profile and then beat the time with your main profile. If this doesn't unlock afterwards, go into Stage Select under The Run menu to get it to unlock
This is a complete list of the solo objectives. You'll need to complete all 20 to unlock all of the associated achievements.
Place first in any race with the Lamborghini Superleggera Tier 4: This can be tricky as depending on the Tier race you are doing, there are 2 Superleggeras. There is a flat black version, and then there's a lime green version. You want the Lime Green Superleggera. Get a win with it.
