Monster Jam is a fairly straightforward racing/stunt game. Approximately half of the game involves competing in races and the other half involves competing in freestyle monster jam events where the player with the highest score wins. The freestyle events will cause the player the most difficulty as the scoring system is somewhat random. Altogether the game should take around 20 hours to complete.
Introduction:
Monster Jam requires two playthroughs to complete. Once on Normal difficulty and once on Pro difficulty. However, this is not a major problem since there are achievements for completing an entire championship with Grave Digger and an entire championship with Monster Mutt. Therefore, just complete your first playthrough on Normal using Grave Digger and your second playthrough on Pro using Monster Mutt.
Step #1: First Playthrough
As mentioned previously, complete your first playthrough on the normal difficulty using Grave Digger. You will have to get first place on every race and every freestyle event in the game. While completing these races keep a lookout for the Monster Obstacles. There are 20 of these structures that you must destroy with your monster truck while completing the championship. A list of these obstacles can be found HERE.
Additionally, you must unlock all of the monster trucks in the game during this one playthrough. The majority of them are unlocked simply by placing first in races and freestyle events. The remainder are unlocked by accumulating 1,080,000 points during your championship. Points are awarded based on your event placement as well as other factors such as damage caused and stunts performed. You may go back to completed events to try attaining a higher score. Note that if you improve on a previous score that you will only be awarded the difference between your previous and new high scores. Once you have unlocked all monster trucks and attained the corresponding Monster Collection achievement, it is time to move on to your second playthrough.
Step #2: Second Playthrough
Go to the in-game settings and change your difficulty to Pro. During this playthrough, use Monster Mutt exclusively. Once again, you will be required to place first in almost all of the races and freestyle events. The exception this time is that you do not need to complete the final portion of the championship (i.e. the Sam Boyd race and the Sam Boyd freestyle). Also note that you do not need to accumulate 1,080,000 points again, as all trucks were unlocked in your previous playthrough.
Step #3: Remaining Achievements
Honestly, by this point you should have all of the achievements in the game. However, if you somehow managed to complete both playthroughs while crushing fewer than 1000 cars then you may go back to previous freestyle events and crush some more.
Conclusion:
Overall, provided you can get used to the touchy racing controls and contend with the random scoring during the freestyle events, this game is a very doable 1000.
