Introduction
Welcome to MUA2! This is a great game for playing some co-op with friends, but it can be enjoyed just as well on your lonesome. The first thing you'll need to know is that at this time, the multiplayer aspect is EXTREMELY glitchy and the setup is just plain odd. If you are playing online with friends, you will not earn credit for anything if your save file is further in the game than theirs, nor will you earn anything if your save file is on the opposite side of the war than theirs. So, if you plan to play in co-op AT ALL, make sure you get on the same page as your friends and stay there. Save often as well, and make sure everyone in the game saves before the host leaves!

Oh, and before you begin playing, download this game add-on which is required to connect to other players who have Juggernaut downloaded. Even if you may not play with anyone else, get it to be safe. You'll also need to download the Character & Sim Mission Pack Teaser for the same reasons.

Step 1: Super-Heroic Difficulty
I would suggest starting here over Heroic simply because the achievements "Undefeated Heroes" and "Immortal Heroics" require this to receive credit, not to mention the game is easy as pie anyway. It doesn't really matter which side you take in the war. Do your best not to die at all during this playthrough, though if you do it is not a big deal since you have the mission replay terminals at your disposal. Use the collectibles guides to grab everything as you play, work on the different types of fusions, combat mastery achievements and heroic deeds and also do the five things required for "Seek and Destroy." None of these are critical to focus on too hard since you can use the mission replays and combat simulators to quickly knock out anything you don't get while progressing through the story. However, you will want to unlock any costumes that require this specific side in the war before moving on to your next playthrough. So if you chose "Pro" you'll want to do Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Songbird, etc. Check that achievement for more info.

Step 2: Legendary Difficulty
Once you finish Super-Heroic, you will unlock this difficulty. All your stats will carry over with you, so start a new game by using the "next mission" console in the Wakanda HQ and be sure to choose the opposite side in the war as you did last time at the end of Act 1. Again, use the collectibles guides to grab anything you may have missed before, plus you will have all-new levels during Act 2 to focus on. Now once you finish playing the game again, you should have all story progression achievements and all collectibles from the missions.

Step 3: Mop Up
You can use the mission replay terminal to now mop up anything you've missed. Grab a friend and go through all the Trivia questions to get total bonuses, go through all the combat simulations to get Gold ratings, repeat HQ levels to get 24 co-op maps, finish off any Undefeated levels and/or bosses you've missed and knock out any heroic deeds you still need for your final team boosts.

Step 4: Character & Sim Mission Pack
Unfortunately with the DLC no longer available except for the "teaser" (which allows you to play online with those who do have it), you won't be able to get the full 1250 if don't already have the DLC. For those that do have the DLC, there are achievements that can be done in one run ("Low Deductible" and "Hotfoot") and some lower difficulty achievements (such as "Old Foes") that keep this DLC pretty short. Roughly 2-3 hours should be plenty to finish off the full 250.

Conclusion
Ultimately (no pun intended) Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is a worthy sequel to the original and can provide hours of entertainment and multiple playthroughs.

See "Legendary Alliance" for more info.
  • Defeat all Act II missions on Legendary Difficulty.

    (1)
See "Legendary Alliance" for more info.
  • Defeat all Act III missions on Legendary Difficulty.

    (1)
Legendary difficulty is unlocked once you have beaten the game on either Heroic or Super-Heroic. Start a new game by using the exit console in the Wakanda HQ, then proceed to beat the game again. It doesn't matter which side you choose, but as this will be your second playthrough, choose the opposite side that you did the first time so you can get all the story progression achievements.

Good characters to use: Thor, Nick Fury, Jean Grey, Deadpool, Juggernaut, Iron Fist and Green Goblin. I personally used Thor, Nick Fury, Juggernaut and Deadpool.
  • Complete a map in Co-Op.

    (1)
See "Decorated Veterans" for more info.
  • Complete 8 maps in Co-Op.

    (1)
See "Decorated Veterans" for more info.
  • Complete 24 maps in Co-Op.

    (3)
A "map" is considered one combat or HQ section of the game. There are more than 24 maps in the game, but a much easier way is to replay an HQ base in the mission simulator. Once it loads, just head the Exit console and then rinse/repeat. It does not have to be 24 unique maps to unlock the achievement.

To see which maps you have completed in co-op, pause the game and go to Stats>Map and scroll through each one, but again you can use the same map multiple times which will not show in the Stats screen.
  • Complete all optional mission objectives.

There are five of these in the game. They are as follows:
    • Latveria, Ascension: There are four wall-mounted turrets in the level that must be destroyed by a ranged attack. Use Iron Man's Pulse Barrage or Spider-Man's Web Barrage.
    • Latveria, Reactors: There are eight cyborg prototypes in this level, floating in giant tubes filled with green liquid. Six are on floor two and two on floor three. Break the tubes and destroy the prototypes.
    • NYC, Factory Floors: Destroy 14 pieces of Latverian tech. 12 are found in one room shortly after the Grim Reaper battle. The last two are in the room directly after that, next to an audio log.
    • Washington D.C., Capitol Offense: There are four munitions piles to destroy for this, in the area with the rocket launcher enemies. Make sure to destory them all before killing all the rocket soldiers and triggering Deadpool's arrival!
    • Wakanda, Tribal City: There are eight total teleportation pods to destroy for this objective. There three close together in the first section and the rest are scattered throughout the level.
  • You or other players on your team must destroy 250 health containers.

"Health containers" are really just any ol' crate lying around that can pop out health when destroyed. If you smash anything you see, you'll have this extremely early in the game.
  • Defeat 12 mission bosses on Super Heroic or Legendary Difficulty without revival or map reload.

    (3)
For this you need to defeat 12 UNIQUE bosses, you can't simply replay the same boss over and over. There are 13 total bosses in the game and this tracks over multiple playthroughs, so if you die against Tinkerer for instance but defeat all the other bosses, it will still unlock. If you die against two bosses, be sure to make note of which ones they were and defeat them without dying on a future playthrough or in the mission simulator.

If one of your partners dies during a section with one of the below bosses, do not revive them and if you all die, don't even bother retrying from a checkpoint, just back out and restart the whole section.
    • Tinkerer aka Tank Bot (Prologue, Latveria Reactors)
    • von Bardas (Act 1, NYC, All Hands on Deck)
    • Titanium Man (Act 1, D.C., Hallowed Ground)
    • Cable OR Bishop (Act 2, White Star Base)
    • Goliath OR Yellowjacket (Act 2, Convoy Strike)
    • Green Goblin AND Venom (Act 3, Off the Leash)
    • Whirlwind, Diamondback AND Moonstone (Act 3, Hold the Line)
    • Green Goblin AND Venom (Act 3, Panther's Lair)
    • Nanite Nick Fury (Act 3, Towering Rage)
To see which bosses you have done this with, pause the game and go to Stats>Map and scroll through to all the maps with bosses. If it says "1 of 1" then you're good. I had an issue where the second instance of GG/V in Wakanda wouldn't register, but it was because I had never defeated the first instance on them without reviving. I went back in the simulator and did that, then both showed up as "1 of 1" for me. I got my final one (Yellowjacket) from the Simulator console, so the achievement CAN be unlocked this way.

Note: If you have all the bosses done with no revival and do not get the achievement, finish the game and begin again via the exit console in the Wakanda HQ so your stats carry over. It should unlock when you defeat the Tinkerer in the prologue (but make sure you don't use a revive!).
  • Defeat 25 maps on Super Heroic or Legendary Difficulty without revival or map reload.

    (1)
As mentioned above, you can not revive any teammates or see the "Retry" screen when attempting this.

To see which maps you have done this with, pause the game and go to Stats>Map.
  • Perform 10 revivals.

When you successfully perform a fusion attack, you earn one Health Charge. You can also often find them lying around a level as well. If a teammate gets KO'd, you can use the token to revive them. Do this ten times over the course of all playthroughs.
  • Perform all 5 recommended training Fusions in Latveria.

Watch the bottom of the screen when playing the Prologue missions, it will ask you to perform all five of these at certain times. Do the correct fusion shortly after the prompt, all five times. This will track over multiple plays of the level, so you can use mission replay to get any you missed.
    1. Any combination
    2. Any combination
    3. Spider-Man & Wolverine
    4. Iron Man & Wolverine
    5. Captain America & Wolverine
These do not have to be Gold rated, you simply have to perform them.
  • Perform 10 Fusions with another player-controlled hero in a Co-Op game.

This can be done local or over Live and you only need one other person (or controller) to assist you. To perform a fusion in co-op, both players must hit the fusion button (left trigger) at the same time while the fusion charge is full.
  • Earn 20 high scores for each type of Fusion: Targeted, Guided, and Clearing.

    (2)
When you go to activate a fusion, check what type will be done before choosing a partner. A target will appear at the bottom of the screen once you select your type. A "high score" on each type of fusion is as follows:
    • Targeted: connect on a boss/mini-boss
    • Guided: hit 15 enemies
    • Clearing: hit 12 enemies
Obviously you only want to do Targeted ones during boss battles or against the bigger mech enemies and the other two should wait until there are large groups of enemies. The bottom two can be done very quickly in the combat simulations.
  • Perform all Fusions by combining every available pairing of 24 heroes.

    (1)
There are a total of 276 fusions in the game. The best way to get through this quickly is to unlock every character and use Sim Mission 1 (Basic Training) to quickly knock them all out. A list is not really needed for this, since every character has 23 fusions they can do by connecting to every other character. Simply choose a character, then keep replacing your teammates until you've done all 23, then choose another main character; rinse and repeat.
  • Have 10 special conversations between characters with a history while in an HQ map.

    (1)
There are plenty of special conversations to get this before the end of a single playthrough. There are 65 total if you play both sides of the campaign. All of the conversation combinations can be found in this thread. If you can't trigger a conversation because you've already talked to the person once with someone else, save and quit the game then reload and you should be fine.
  • Unlock 23 alternate costumes.

    (4)
Every character (except Nick Fury) has one alternate costume. All of the costumes can be unlocked by defeating 50 enemies at a certain point in the game. Some characters who don't actually participate in the Civil War can be done at any time, while others have to be on a certain side of the war. The requirements can be found in this thread.

Make sure on your first playthrough of the game that you unlock every costume for characters that require that alignment in the war before starting a new game. If you choose Pro-Reg for instance, get all of Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, etc.
  • Collect 50 Team Boosts.

See "Above and Beyond" for more info.
  • Collect 125 Team Boosts.

See "Above and Beyond" for more info.
  • Collect 200 Team Boosts.

Team Boosts can either be found hidden around missions or earned through Simulator Missions, Heroic Deeds and Conversation Choices. A complete list of Unlockable team boosts can be found in this thread. Team boosts collected in missions are in the collectible guide.

There are 216 total boosts in the game so you can miss a few and still get the achievement. However, will in fact miss a bunch (13 or 14, depending on which side you choose) if you don't play the game twice on Legendary since most bosses drop an additional boost on Legendary difficulty which makes up most of the extra. If you're having a tough time knocking out the Heroic Deeds for some characters, start a third playthrough and choose the opposite side as you chose on your first Legendary playthrough to quickly earn new boosts for defeating those bosses on Legendary.
  • Collect 30 Audio Logs.

There are 38 total Audio Logs in the game. You should get this in one playthrough, but if you miss a bunch in the second act and don't go back through the replay console, you will need to wait until your second playthrough to finish this achievement since some are only located during the individual sections of Act 2. All the locations can be found in the collectible guide.
  • Collect 125 Dossiers.

There are a total of 171 Dossiers in the game. Many of them are unlocked automatically by defeating bosses, unlocking costumes and doing heroic deeds. All the locations for the ones picked up in levels can be found in the collectible guide.
  • Collect 10 Concept Art Bundles in HQ maps.

There are only 10 of these in the game found in HQ bases during a single playthrough so be sure to be diligent finding all of them. There are an extra three in the opposite side of the war during Act 2 if you want to collect those as well. This will carry over to a new playthrough if you miss any, or just use the mission replays. All the locations can be found in the collectible guide.
  • Correctly answer 15 Trivia questions.

    (2)
There are plenty more than 15 questions, but that is all you need for the achievement. All of the answers can be found in this thread.
  • Score 30 Trivia Fusions.

A Trivia Fusion occurs when two or more people in co-op answer a trivia question correctly at the same time. Again, there are plenty of these questions, so just coordinate with a friend to both be at the trivia console. See "Trivia Buff" for a link to all the answers.
  • Earn all Trivia rewards.

    (1)
The Trivia Rewards are the three little icons on the bottom of the screen for each question To earn all available rewards from a question, it has to be answered correctly, quickly AND with a fusion. So, to get this achievement you will need to get a friend and quickly answer questions until the icons for every question in the game are lit up. Keep cycling through all the questions in a console until all three icons in the bottom right corner and lit up before moving on. Again, a link to the answers can be found under the "Trivia Buff" achievement.
  • Earn Mission Succeeded on a Simulator Mission in Co-Op and return to the Simulator menu.

See "Sim Champion" for more info.
  • Earn 4 Bronze Medals from Simulator Missions.

See "Sim Champion" for more info.
  • Earn 8 Silver Medals from Simulator Missions.

See "Sim Champion" for more info.
  • Earn 12 Gold Medals from Simulator Missions.

    (2)
The first achievement in this set is required to be done in co-op, but you'll probably want to do all these in co-op to get the Gold medals. Once you have all 12 Simulator Discs from the campaign, get two or more friends and give these a go. The locations of the discs can be found in the collectibles guide. For all of the mission requirements and strategies to get Gold, see this thread.
  • Complete all melee training goals listed on the Stats page.

There are 8 total goals for this achievement. They are as follows:
    • 10 Shields Removed: Use the button on anyone carrying a shield to pry it out of their hands.
    • 20 Foes Thrown: Hit the button twice near an enemy, then angle the movement thumbstick in any direction.
    • 10 Stun Combos: Use an , , combo.
    • 10 Pop-Up Combos: Use an , , combo.
    • 10 Trip Combos: Use an , , combo.
    • 20 Prone Strikes: When an enemy is on the ground, move over them and hit .
    • 20 Grapple Strikes: Grapple with , then hit .
    • 20 Air Smashes: Jump with , then hold .
  • Complete all Power training goals listed on the Stats page.

There are 7 of these. They are as follows:
    • 30 Dash Power Hits: Any power that causes the character to lunge at an enemy. (ex. Wolverine's Lunging Rage)
    • 30 Projectile Power Hits: Any ranged attack. (ex. Spider-Man's Web Barrage)
    • 30 Radial Power Hits: Any area effect attack. (ex. Iron Man's Radial Pulse)
    • 30 Direct Damage Power Hits: Any attack that starts in/on the enemy. (ex. Human Torch's Radial Blaze)
    • 20 Pulling Power Hits: Any power that sucks an enemy closer. (ex. Spider-Man's Web Yank)
    • 20 Buffs Used: Any stat boosting power. (ex. Captain America's Heroic Defense)
    • 20 Debuffs Used: Any stat decreasing power. (ex. Hulk's Gamma Roar)
  • Complete all combat mastery goals listed on the Stats page.

    (6)
There are 7 of these. They are as follows:
    • 20 Car Explosion Hits: Blow up a car near a group of enemies.
    • 5-Chain Reaction: Find any group of barrels, cars or munitions and use a projectile character to shoot them. You can try the Grim Reaper fight in the Factory level for a good chance at this, or with the barrels along the wall in the Black Widow fight. Make sure to only shoot ONE of the items, which should then explode and cause all the others to blow up. If you shoot them all, they'll all blow up at the same time which will not work.
    • 20 Robots Killed with Own Grenades: This is actually a bit misleading as you can kill ANY robot with a robot grenade to count for this. So when you see the big mechs in Act 2 that spit out grenades, pick them up and throw them at the smaller robots. You can also work on this in the Heavy Metal sim mission.
    • Knock Down 5 Enemies with 1 Object: Using a stronger character (Hulk or Thing for instance) grab a big object like a bus and throw it toward a large group of enemies.
    • 20 Melee-to-Power Chains: After using any melee attack, quickly use a power attack (right trigger+ with Thor is a quick one) to get the combo.
    • 20 Enemies Hit with Fire, Cold AND Electric: The easiest way to do this is to equip team boosts that add each of those three elements to your melee attacks. Otherwise, Nick Fury has all three attack types, or you can use a team of Human Torch, Storm and Iceman. One enemy has to be hit with all three types before dying for it to count, so the team boosts option is by far the best.
    • 50 Enemies Thrown From High: The three best places for this are Convoy Strike, Guard Duty and Tribal City. Just throw someone off a high ledge or bridge.

DLC: Character & Sim Mission Pack

There are 8 achievements with a total of 250 points

  • Progress through "Insidious Alliance" without breaking any Health Containers.

    (4)
After each "wave" of enemies, a ring of boxes will spawn around a console which begins the next wave. Simply ignore these. This achievement will unlock as soon as you get to the last wave of the mission, so you do not actually have to complete it if you're too low on health by then.
  • Complete "Escort Duty" without destroying any turrets.

    See "Hotfoot" for more info.
  • Defeat 75 foes in "Balance."

    (2)
I'm not positive, but this may require you to kill every single enemy in the level. I feel like I missed a few, but to be safe just don't let any get by. I personally did this with a friend using Thor and Jean Grey. Have Jean use her special which will freeze enemies in place, then Thor can use his special which should kill them in one hit.
  • Defeat "Overload" with the X-Men.

    (11)
An X-Men team can consist of Wolverine, Iceman, Juggernaut, Cable, Psylocke, Magneto, Jean Grey, Storm and Gambit. It really doesn't matter who you use, just whoever you're comfortable with. Put a team of four together with those characters and make sure you have the Team Bonus of "X-Men" in the setup screen.
  • Throw all the proximity mines in "Balance."

    (2)
This one seems to be a bit easier solo for some reason, unlike the others. Use Thor and as soon as the mission starts, kill off your partners by jumping off the edge or running into the blue forcefield behind you. From there, go into flight and pretty much ignore all enemies, only landing to take out the mines. Some barriers have a mine extremely close on the opposite side, so try using his special to break them from afar, then move in to deal with the mine. Also avoid hitting the vortex machines, as they will suck the mines in and you won't be able to grab them.

If you pick up a mine and it blows up in your hands, this DOES count toward the achievement. You don't actually have to "throw" the mine.
  • Complete "Insidious Alliance" with all four heroes alive.

    (1)
The trick to this one is maximizing the number of Revive Tokens you get. You receive one automatically for completing a "wave" of enemies, and you can earn one extra for each Targeted Fusion you successfully complete (get a Gold rating). So, anytime you get enough juice for a Fusion, be sure to use it, even if the enemy is weak. I personally used Thor (his

You CAN die during this mission, you just have to have all four people alive when you defeat Carnage. Try to still have one or two revives left when going into the fight with him, though he's fairly weak so it shouldn't be a huge deal. attack), Torch, Jean Grey and Hulk. The people you use is really up to you and who you are comfortable with though.
  • Blitz

    20

Defeat 2 foes within 10 seconds in "Insidious Alliance."

The first wave of enemies only has one active at a time, but you should be able to get this on any other one. Simply use your normal strategies to weaken two different enemies so they are down to like 10% health, then make sure you have full stamina and go all out. If possible, herd them together so you can pretty much kill them with the same attacks.
  • Complete "Escort Duty" without disabling any floor hazards.

I did both of the achievements for this mission at the same time. Essentially, you will have to ignore all the hazards including flamethrowers, turrets and electrified floors. The robot can be damaged by them and considering I did both of these at the same time on Legendary, he can also take quite a bit of punishment without dying. Just make sure you use a strong team and kill the actual enemies quickly, you shouldn't have any trouble with this.
