Introduction:
Left 4 Dead is not an entirely difficult game once you get into it. With a good team of people, you can easily fly through this game on Expert. There are an abundance of achievements you will get for just playing through the game, and you may indeed get a few to pop up unexpectedly, which is always nice. Depending on how many zombie kills you are averaging per campaign, you may need to play campaigns an upward of 50-60 times. If you have Xbox Live and the new 'Survival Pack', you should use that too for some variety. There are many glitches in this game, but they are slowly being removed. With the new delay on melee, the harder campaigns become even more difficult, as it is no longer plausible to all sit in a corner holding down the left trigger. With an experienced team you could possibly get a rhythm going, so that there is always somebody hitting infected, but this is difficult.
Step 1: Play each campaign
Obviously, if you are a newcomer to the game, play through each campaign on the easy or normal difficulties. I suggest doing it offline with the A.I., as most people playing easy or normal online are just people who want to mess around, and this will not help you with achievements. If you pick up the game quickly, you may well get 300-400 worth of achievements on your first four playthroughs.
Step 2: Gather up other 'easy' achievements.
Using the achievement guide below, try and get all of the achievements that are considered to be 'easy', or what in Left 4 Dead, present a high offline plausibility. Most achievements are a lot easier to do alone. With the guide below they should be a breeze. Play until you are left with:
All of the multiplayer achievements, "Nothing Special", "Zombicidal Maniac", "What Are You Trying to Prove?", "Zombie Genocidest" (if not already achieved), and possibly "Untouchables" also. All of these (bar the multiplayer ones, which are explained in the next step, and "Zombie Genocidest") are very difficult to achieve, and you will most likely need a good team of four to get them.
Step 3: Multiplayer Achievements.
You have two options here - grab a second controller and get at them or find a few buddies in the Achievement Trading Thread HERE and go at them. Most are pretty simple, as you can set up the scenarios as you wish to make it easier to get the achievements. I would advise keeping the survivors on orange - red health as this will make most achievements, especially All 4 Dead, a lot easier.
Step 4: Difficult and Expert Achievements.
You are going to need to get online and find a dedicated team of four to get these ones quickly. "Nothing Special" is by far the most difficult, as even on easy, one clumsy move by any team member could mess up the entire attempt. As for the expert ones, don't get disheartened if you get on some stupid teams, you will eventually get a good team, and if they are kicking ass, make sure to ask them if they would like to stick together and do some more campaigns!
Step 5: "Zombie Genocidest" + Final Mop-Up.
To get "Zombie Genocidest", you just need to play and play until you have it. This is by far the most time-consuming achievement in the game, but with the new Survival Mode, and the DLCs, there is plenty to keep you playing. You need to then go down through your achievements, check to see if any are missing and if so, follow the achievement guide to gather them up and reach 1000 .
DLC: Crash Course
Step 1: Campaign Run
Whether you do this part alone or in co-op is up to you but is undeniably more fun with friends. Simply play through the Crash Course campaign on easy (any will work) paying mind to the following achievements while you do:
- Quick Power
- Tank Stumble
and at the end of your Crash Course Campaign run you will get Crash-proof for finishing the campaign.
DLC Crash Course
Step 2: Multiplayer
These achievements are technically possible in splitscreen, but are much easier to do with a friend or 2. I did this with 2 friends and we each used 1 extra controller. These are the achievements that require versus play and some of them are best done if all 4 survivors are under player control while the infected get there achievements.
- Jumpin' Jack Smash
- Slippery Pull
- Truck Stop
- Wipefest
- 20 Car Pile Up
Crash Course
Step 3: The Grind
Now for the final achievement of this DLC, The Littlest Genocide. This is a grind and will be where you spend most of your time playing this DLC. Simply load up the truck stop finale and get to the truck stop. Once there, prepare to survive as long as you can. Once you are ready, turn on the generator. Now when the generator turns off do not turn it back on, doing this creates and infinite spawn of zombies. Go find a spot to camp out and kill until you die. You have unlimited ammo since there is an ammo cache in front of the escape vehicle and a few health kits.
DLC: The Sacrifice
Step 1 First Playthrough
Playthrough on easy difficulty (Supreme Sacrifice, Kill Bill) – You may play solo or with two other players (one can be a guest) for this playthrough. Just simply go through the campaign on easy, you shouldn’t have any difficulty. When you make it to chapter 3, “Port Finale,” you will be assigned to turning on three generators to lower a bridge. If you are playing with two other players, you can pick up Chaos Generator by having one player at each generator and starting the generator at the same time. Once the generator needs to be restarted, make sure the player playing as Bill sacrifices himself.
The Sacrifice
Step 2 Versus
Load up “Port Finale” with four players on the infected team and at least one player on the survivor side. Let the survivor and the bots go through the finale as usual. When the sacrifice needs to be made, have the human controlled survivor go down to the generator. Have the survivor begin to restart the generator, but allow the player wanting the achievement to incapacitate the survivor before the survivor is able to restart the generator. It is a good idea to make sure the person getting the achievement is a hunter or a smoker prior to the bridge lowering.
The Sacrifice
Step 3 Mop Up:
It is very well possible that you could have obtained some achievements in one of your other two playthroughs. Barrel Rolled can be obtained easily on versus. Simply load up chapter one and with one or more players, or even your guest, and place a special infected next to an exploding barrel and shoot the barrel. You may need to shoot the infected once or twice to lower its damage.
Conclusion:
All in all, not a very difficult game, and with the exception of three or four achievements it should be an good game to try for the full 1500 . Not only that, but it is a really enjoyable game. Congratulations, you should now have fully completed Left 4 Dead!
