Introduction:
All achievements can be obtained in one playthrough on the hardest setting. While enemies are certainly more numerous, damage taken seems to be consistent throughout all difficulties, so there's little reason to start the game on anything lower than Hardcore difficulty. In fact, having more enemies throughout your missions actually makes earning various achievements alot easier. Since it is a free-roam game, there is little for me to outline in this roadmap, as everything can be acquired in any order, at your own pace. There is no fastest method other than just enjoying the game. Below you can find a small summary of achievements you should take note of in order to save some time, simply by starting them early. All statistics and/or progress that count towards an achievement can be accessed by pressing to bring up the menu, then to bring up the database screen which contains a statistics menu.

Hardcore Playthrough: The main achievements you should be aware of are: "Trying everything once", "Faction Benefactor" and the various kill achievements. Try keeping these in mind while doing Story and Faction Missions.

Trying everything once:
This achievement wants you to have driven/flown 109 vehicles within the game. This will be a long ride, and it's best to start this as early as possible. Simply jump on and hijack cars you haven't driven yet while going from one point to another throughout the whole game.

Note: Make sure to download the additional free vehicle content to complete this one, because the 'Vanderbildt Leisure Liner' is currently glitched.

Faction Benefactor:
This achievement requires you to find 150 faction items (Black boxes, Drug Cases and Skulls), which are marked on the map () with a little green dot. Some of them are easy to find, others are a bit harder to get to. In any case, while doing the other achievements, pick them up if you're near one, this will save you time in the long run.

Kill achievements:
Kill achievements are the achievements that require you to kill x enemies in a somewhat less regular fashion. These achievements can be completed at any time, but certain missions boast a fair amount of enemies, and possibly present an easier way to complete them. Take note of the various ways you need to kill them in the achievement list and you should be well on your way, without having to go out of your way to get these.

All details regarding these achievements can be found in the achievement guide.

With these in mind, you should simply progress through the Story and Faction missions as you see fit. A fair amount will unlock doing so, while some require you to keep playing after you finish every available mission.

Mop Up:
So you completed all your missions and challenges and should have no more than a couple achievements left to earn. These can include: "Faction Benefactor", "Perfectionist", "Trying Everything Once" and the kill achievements. Although time-consuming, they're not all that hard and you'll get these eventually.

Conclusion:Given the freeroaming nature of this game and the fact that there are is but one glitched achievement that is easily remedied with free downloadable content, it's actually not that hard to get all your achievements nor is there a specific order in which you should, even on the hardest difficulty. Overall, this is an extremely fun and addictive game to play, and the setting alone will leave you in awe while playing through it. Enjoy your exotic adventure, snatching another 1000 gamerscore along the way.

There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Bonus for completing the game on Normal difficulty.

    See "Legendary Agent".

  • Bonus for completing the game on Experienced difficulty.

    See "Legendary Agent".

  • Bonus for completing the game on Hardcore difficulty.

These achievements will unlock after finishing Story Mission 7 depending on which difficulty you chose. The achievements stack, playing the game on Hardcore difficulty will unlock all of them.

  • Complete 3 stronghold takeovers

After completing Story Mission 1 and 2, which commences automatically when you start a new game, you will be tasked with gaining trust for 3 different gangs. Each of them will be marked on your map with a different color (Red, Blue, Yellow). Each of the factions' first mission is a stronghold takeover, do all 3 of them to unlock this achievement.

  • Complete 9 stronghold takeovers.

When you bring up the map , you will see 4 bars in the lower right of your screen. The second one represents the amount of chaos needed to unlock the next 3 stronghold missions.
Earn chaos points by doing missions, destroying military objects, finding faction items and achieving 100% on locations.

Note: Strongholds serve as re-spawn points when you die outside of a mission. Having them all equals less traveling, so I suggest to do them whenever the occasion arises.

  • Complete 49 faction missions.

For every factions' stronghold takeover, certain areas of the map will be added to their territory. In this area you will be given a variety of faction missions. Complete all missions to obtain this achievement.

Conquering new areas by subsequent takeovers will add new missions to other areas of the map.The third bar on the map screen represents the amount of chaos needed to unlock more missions in the existing territories the factions have.

Note: Completed missions will disappear, which makes it very easy to track down the ones you haven't done yet.

  • Cause chaos for the first time.

You will obtain this in Story Mission 1. Destroy anything with a white Panau star on it and the achievement is yours.

  • Complete 150 sabotages.

    See "Destroyer"

  • Complete 1000 sabotages.

Destroying certain military objects like Silos, Fuel depots, Broadcast towers, count as sabotaging Panau.

You will get this by working on Agency Missions (Story Missions) and faction missions. If you should run out of missions without having unlocked this achievement, check your map for places you haven't fully completed yet and/or explore for more Panau bases.

Note: In the statistics screen, you can see which buildings/objects count towards a sabotage.

  • Assassinate 25 colonels.

Click here for the exact locations of all colonels. Colonels are usually found in non-civilian locations and they can be spotted from a fair distance through a marker when you travel around.

They are immune to regular fire, but a sniper rifle head shot is a one hit kill. If you're near endgame, you can also use the rocket launcher to blast them away from a distance. Alternatively you can use an armed chopper, given there are no active SAM sites in the vicinity.

  • Complete 10 challenges.

See "Up to the Challenge 2"

  • Complete 50 challenges.

Along with the faction missions explained earlier, challenges will unlock in the territories. The checkered flags on your map represent the challenges.

There are 4 kinds of challenges (Ground, Water, Air and Base-jumping) with a difficulty rating of 1-3 stars. If you have trouble with a challenge, just take it slow. Most challenges add a fairly large amount of time with each checkpoint, so in most cases, your main goal should be not to crash. Steer clear of Base-jump challenges as they can prove to be quite tricky. But by all means, do try them for fun !

Note: Completed challenges will receive a check, making it very easy to track down the ones you haven't done yet.

  • Collect 1000 resource items.

Every location has a number of resource items to be collected, such as Weapon Upgrade crates, Armor Upgrade crates, Vehicle Upgrade crates, Money crates.
While you cannot check the number per location, you can track them down easily by using the Wi-Fi like symbol on the upper left of your mini-map. It functions automatically and the amount of bars represent how close you are to a resource crate. Once you're very close it starts flashing and a grey arrow on the screen points you to the actual location.

You should be able to get a fair share of these by just playing through the game. Visit new locations on your map and track down crates until the achievement unlocks.

Note: I personally made it a habit of getting 100% in every small settlement I passed through, as they usually consist of 3-5 crates and 1 military object to destroy. This way, you will also work towards the 'Freeroamer 1-2' Achievements

  • Collect 100 resource items.

    See "Leaving No Rock Unturned"

  • Collect 150 faction items.

The most time consuming achievement out there, along with "Trying everything once".
Faction items are marked on the map screen through a green dot. While this makes it seem easy to acquire, the traveling and getting to the exact location won't be. Prepare for a long journey to collect this achievement!

  • Discover 100 locations.

All locations are visible through a small yellow dot on your map screen. This should come naturally as you progress through the story and faction missions. There are 364 locations in total, so getting less than a third of it shouldn't pose any problem.

  • Reach 100% complete in 15 locations.

    See "Freeroamer 2"

  • Reach 100% complete in 100 locations.

All locations have a number of objects to destroy and resource crates to find. Make a habit of completing all settlements you encounter while progressing through the game.
Strongholds and military compounds are considerably harder to complete and some of the remaining destructible items are a real pain to track down.
If you haven't acquired this after completing most of the missions, simply look for small settlements as they are the easiest to get to 100%.

Note: Make a habit out of stopping by small settlements and searching for the resource crates. They only have a few and are easy to find. You'll work towards 'Freeroamer' this way as well.

  • Kill 750 enemies.

This will come naturally as you progress through the game. Civilians do not count.

  • Kill 50 enemies using melee attacks.

Get up close and press to do a melee attack with your grappling hook. Repeat 50 times to unlock this achievement.

  • Kill 30 enemies by using the grappling hook and making them fall to their death.

Various missions have watch towers with soldiers and snipers in them. Simply pull them off with your grappling hook and let them fall to their death. Repeat 30 times to unlock this achievement.

  • Kill 5 enemies by dragging them behind a vehicle with the grappling hook.

Attach an enemy to your car by keeping with your grappling hook and kill them. Target the car and hold down then hover the enemy and release. This will attach him to your car. Repeat 5 times to unlock this achievement.

Note: Sometimes they refuse to die while you drag them along. Simply run them over while they're attached and it should count as a drag kill.

  • Kill 30 enemies while they're suspended in the air with the grappling hook.

Attach an enemy to the wall and kill him. Target the wall and hold down then hover the enemy and release. This should attach him to the wall, then proceed with the kill.

Note: The enemy does not have to be suspended in the air to make it count. Simply attaching him to a wall and kill him will do the trick, although the game doesn't register it occasionally.

  • Kill 5 enemies by smashing them with an object tethered to your vehicle with the grappling hook.

A difficult achievement. Add to that the fact that some genuine wrecking ball kills simply don't register and you have one well annoying achievement on your hands.
I'll list several methods I have tried, which all work, but very inconsistent, you'll need a great deal of luck for this one.
It is imperative that you do not have a mission active, dying will result in restarting at a previous checkpoint and losing your kills.

    - In the town of Bandar Sungal Rejang, at X 8626 Y 20564, there is a checkpoint with a lone enemy guard and a tiny car just sitting right next to him. Using a heavy helicopter, you can attach the two and then use the tethered car to run him down. It doesn't cause the police to start attacking you and you can simply fly the helicopter a bit down the river and turn right around and the guard will be back. Repeat the process over again until you get all five.
Make sure you do not use the military vehicle, or you'll have heat on your tail, same goes for accidentally running over civilians. Use the small non-military vehicle instead, and make sure only to hit the guard.

    - Go to X:740 Y:13622 and you'll find a race called 'Kicking the Curb' (Roaches, acquired after taking over their first stronghold). Start it and it will spawn a heavy armored car for you. Hop in and take a left into the alley right before the start of the race until you hit the main road, take a left again and you'll see a propaganda wagon at the side of the road.
The easiest way to get wrecking ball kills is to attach a car (as large as possible) in front of your armored car, line up with an enemy and run it over. I was able to get 1 kill of 5 with this method.
If you accidentally destroy the propaganda wagon, you can try your luck a bit further with a colonel and his entourage in a grassy field.

  • Kill 5 enemies with the melee attack while they're suspended with the grappling hook.

See '"Hang 'em High" but finish the job with a melee attack . Repeat 5 times to unlock this achievement.

  • Kill 30 enemies while they're in mid air.

The best way to get enemies in mid-air is by grabbing them with the grappling hook . When you do this, the enemy will be pulled into the air, and since the cross-hair keeps targeting him after the pull, you can easily land some shots before he falls back down. You may need to redo this process if he didn't die from your first try. Repeat this 30 times to unlock the achievement.

Note: Upgrading weapons will help towards this achievement for a quicker kill, avoiding multiple pulls per enemy.

  • Kill 30 enemies by mowing them down with vehicles.

Mow down 30 enemies while driving a vehicle. Tanks seem to be the best vehicle, but you'll probably get some kills with any vehicle while progressing through the game.

  • Kill 50 enemies with head shots.

In several missions, you will find snipers, which drop a sniper rifle after killing them. Pick up their weapon and proceed with head shots to as many enemies as possible. Repeat 50 times to unlock this achievement. Normal weapons can be used too, but usually take a few bullets more to take the enemy down.

Note: The DLC weapon 'Bull's Eye Rifle' from the Limited Edition has a scope, which can be used for head shots as well.

  • Kill 20 enemies in 60 seconds.

Some Faction Missions require you to fend off large groups of enemies, giving you a good opportunity to finish this achievement.

Faction mission from the Ular Boys: Holy Smoke
Coordinates: X:13860 Y:30596 (One of the southern islands)
This mission has you defending an opium stash at a temple site. Waves of enemies will come from 3 sides, with about 10-12 enemies per wave. Plenty of meat to grab this achievement

Note: If the mission isn't available, keep causing chaos until you unlock new faction missions. It will be there eventually.

  • Kill 50 enemies in a row with inventory weapons without losing health.

Inventory weapons exclude vehicles and a detached minigun.

Fire up a playthrough on casual and play to the part where you need to get into the chopper. Do not get into the chopper and proceed to kill the enemies on the ground. They will re-spawn, giving you a good opportunity to get this achievement nice and quick. Make sure to stay a fair distance from your enemies as they won't be able to hit you that easily. This method shouldn't take longer than 15-20 minutes.

Extract to the Panau airport (located at the city center of Panau) and find a hangar with a plane and a chopper in it. Enter at the side of the plane and you'll find two enemies there. Kill them, leave the hangar, re-enter it, and the two you just shot will have re-spawned.
They stop spawning at around 30 kills, so you'll need to extract back and forth to complete the remainder.

Note: The achievement title is rather misleading as you CAN get hit while attempting this. Just make sure the damage you receive is minor and has the chance to regenerate.

  • Destroy 30 objects in 60 seconds.

I got this in my first Story Mission without even going for it. You'll be asked to man a mini-gun and destroy silos behind enemies. Do so and destroy as many objects as you can find. This includes boxes and crates enemies hide behind.

Another option is in Story Mission 2, where you need to climb a casino. There's a sky-bridge between the two buildings with a lot of windows. Your best bet is to hijack the helicopter or come back to it with one and unleash hell on those windows.

  • Drive 30 different vehicles.

    See "Trying Everything Once"

  • Drive all 104 vehicles.

Drive every vehicle in the game. This includes boats and aircraft's.
Try working towards this achievement as soon as possible. Whenever you're driving from one point to another, stunt jump onto your car and grapple towards passing cars you haven't seen yet. Hijack them and continue your trip while repeating this process when a new car appears.
A lot of the challenges give you rare cars to complete them with, so make sure to visit them all at least once.

You should be able to find 80-90% by just doing your thing on the island.
Check this thread here for the harder to find vehicles.

Note: Free DLC and Limited Edition vehicles count towards this achievement, effectively eliminating the need to find vehicles such as 'Vanderbildt Leisure Liner'.

  • Travel 75 kilometers by land vehicle.

A great deal of this will come while doing missions and land vehicle races. If you're short on this, simply drive around a fast car until you unlock the achievement.

  • Hijack 50 enemy vehicles.

Hijack a manned enemy vehicle (air, water, ground) by pressing , this will initiate a button mini-game which is rather easy to complete. Keep hijacking throughout the game and you should be getting close to 50.

A good way to get this fast is by building up heat and hijacking enemy boats.

  • Get 100 stunt driver points.

Get the fast car that is showcased in front of the airport and make your way to the circular road. Keep doing laps until you accumulated 100 stunt driver points. The kilometers driven will count towards "Road Trip" as well.

Alternate method: Find your way to the airstrip and tether your vehicle to a plane that is about to take off.

  • Reach 50% completion in the normal mode or mercenary mode.

    See "Perfectionist"

  • Open the parachute and then land on foot 300 meters above the starting height.

For this achievement you need to climb your way up with the grappling hook while parachuting. Find a steep hill or mountain and climb your way up.

Alternate method: Find a road from the beach side into the mountains. This method is much slower, but the hill you climb won't be as steep, making it easier to avoid mistakes.

  • Base jump 1000 meters.

At the eastern side of the map, above a collection of smaller islands, you'll notice a double zeppelin. Work your way to the top of the zeppelins by grappling and jump down from its rear wing. You need to push to jump off, if you let yourself fall, the base jump will not trigger. Open you parachute when you pass the 1000 mark (displayed to the right of your mini-map) or alternatively, fall to your death at the 1150 mark. Both will unlock the achievement.

Note: Once you discovered the Mile High Club, you can extract to its location through the Black Market dealer, in case you failed to get the achievement.

  • Fly an airplane under 30 unique bridges in Panau.

Fly under 30 different bridges in Panau.

  • Fly an airplane close to the ground for 30 seconds.

Fly close to the ground with any type of air vehicle. Both ground and shallow water work for this one.
You'll see your progress to the right of your minimap. Hit the 30 second mark and the achievement is yours.

  • Reach 75% completion in the normal mode or mercenary mode.

This will take you a long time to accomplish and requires you to complete almost everything out there. Refer to the other achievements on tips for completing the actions listed below. The percentages are an estimate, as they can be more or less sometimes, so I assume they're not rounded and have a hidden counter for additions of less than 0.01%
Story and faction missions aren't listed, since you will have to do them all in order to obtain other achievements, so it isn't very relevant to determine the fastest way to 75% completion.

Actions that count towards this achievement:

    - Challenges add 0.10%
    - Completing locations to 100% adds 0.03%
    - Finding faction items adds 0.03%
    - Resource crates add 0.01%
    - Destroying military objects adds 0.005%
    - Killing colonels adds 0.14%

  • Stand on foot on the highest point of Panau

Fly with any air vehicle to the snowy mountain range on the map. Once there, look for the highest peak, which shouldn't be hard to find, leave your airplane and grapple your way towards the very top of it.
