Introduction
Welcome to the achievement guide and roadmap for Hardwood Hearts. Hearts is a centuries old card game, with the object to evade all the cards in the hearts suit. All the cards are dealt, and each player must play one card every turn (trick). The person who plays the highest card of the suit the opening player opens with takes the trick (i.e. if the first person plays 5 of diamonds, player 2 plays 8 of diamonds, player 3 plays 10 of clubs and player 4 plays king of spades, player 2 takes the trick). If a player has no cards in that suit, they may play another suit. The goal is to avoid taking and hearts or the queen of spades. The game ends when one player reaches the score limit, then the lowest scoring player is declared the winner. The achievements aren't too hard to get, and are mostly luck based. They all pop when they are supposed to, and once you get a hang of the game it is pretty easy.

Step 1 - Multiplayer
I would suggest getting the multiplayer out of the way pretty early as the community is very dead as of 2013. Visit the boosting thread found here or create or join a Session to find a partner.
I would advise going for a ten wins streak online as with good communication you can engineer wins easily. You should have 2 achievents for 50

Step 2 - Playing games and mopping up
After the multiplayer is out of the way, you will have to play many games of Hearts before you are done. Luckily games can go very quickly. Either play partners with a 50 point max, or turn on "Spot Hearts" and play with a 100 point limit. First of all, go for the Shoot the Moon/Sun related achievements, "Solar Sniper", "Lunar Sniper" and "Lunar Satellite", 3 achievements for 70. Now just continue playing towards your 100 games played. By the time you get there you should be done with this game.

Conclusion
This game is what it is. It is a no frills card game, the achievements aren't very imaginative, aren't too tough and it is a bit of a grind, but as it is from 2005 you can forgive that a little. It won't take too long for the full 200, as long as you find a boosting partner. Have fun, and watch out for the Queen of Spades.

There are 12 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • Win 10 consecutive games. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

    (3)

The easy way to do this is to get three friends, create a game online, and take turns winning 10 in a row. You can also get this just by playing the game normally, although that is harder. If you are going to do it without friends, set the options to 100 points and play relatively conservatively.

  • Shoot the sun by taking every single trick in a hand. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

    (1)

Play on partners and any hand where you have three aces, three kings, and at least 6 high cards in one suit, give this a shot. Pass your three lowest cards. If you don’t have the Ace of Clubs, it probably isn’t worth it. If you have the Two of Clubs, you have to pass it or you can’t take the first trick. Start by playing each Ace, and keep track of all the royalty that is played that you don’t have in your hand. This way you always know what the remaining high card is in each suit. If you don’t have the fourth Ace, make sure you don’t play that suit until it is played on you. Next, play any other cards you have that are the remaining high card in suits, except for the suit you have the most cards in. Once you can be beaten in a suit, stop playing it. You should get to a point where you have only a few cards outside of your major suit, at which point you should play that, from high to low. The last couple of tricks can be dicey, but if you have noted the cards played you can see which cards can be beaten and try to play those last. In those cases, hopefully your partner is the one with cards higher than you in that suit, because if he takes the trick it counts toward this achievement.

  • Shoot the moon by taking all point cards in a hand. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

    See "Lunar Satellite" below.

  • Win a game by at least 50 points. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

    See "Lunar Satellite" below.

  • Break hearts a total of 100 times. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

Breaking hearts is where you are the first to play either a heart or the Queen of spades. Play a lot of games set to 500 points so you don’t have to keep restarting. Even if it means you are setting yourself up to take more points down the road, play hearts as soon as you get the opportunity. This one will come with time anyway, but try to get rid of any complete suits you can at the beginning by passing cards so you can play a heart of the Queen of Spades earlier.

  • Take 500 total tricks. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

This will come pretty quickly just while getting the other achievements.

  • Shoot the moon 3 times in a single game. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

    (2)

Shooting the moon is where you take all point cards in an entire hand. Points cards are all of the hearts and the Queen of spades. Set up a game with partners on, points = 500, sun/moon shots on. Any hand where you have a lot of one suit – especially Spades – and some high cards in the other suits, try to shoot the moon. You should be able to get this pretty easily with the settings above, although your partner may frustrate you on occasion since he really does not like to play points on you. One advantage of shooting the moon is the opponent gets all the points, so this is an easy one to win by a lot in.

  • Win a total of 10 games. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

You will get this one just by playing the game to get the other achievements. If you need to focus on this alone, set the game to partners, 50 points.

  • Win 25 games. Earn this playing online or single player.

You will get this one just by playing the game to get the other achievements. If you need to focus on this alone, set the game to partners, 50 points.

  • Play 10 complete games in Xbox Live play.

The easy way is to grab three friends and play 10 games, set to 50 points. It doesn’t matter if you win, but you have to start and finish the game for it to count. Being a spectator does not count for this. You can find people to play by visiting the boosting thread or creating a Session.

  • Play a total of 100 games. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

You will get this one just by playing the game to get the other achievements. If you need to focus on this alone, set the game to partners, 50 points.

  • Avoid taking the Queen of Spades in 25 total games. Earn this in Single Player or Xbox Live play.

You will get this one just by playing the game to get the other achievements. If you need to focus on this alone, set the game to partners, 50 points.
