Don't confuse people, since it's really difficult to get get a jump far out enough to land near the Elite without a lengthy sprint off the ledge. |

Basically don't re-spawn from the check point just before the jump, re-start the mission from pressing start. Also use the pistol, I found it easier to perform the assassination with it. After spending about 30 mins re-spawning and trying from the check point I tried this and it worked first time. Hopefully this helps some of you guys and gals |

To the middle of the street, or to the left and right in the dirt. Wait for him to move to the dirt and use your sprint ability to jump. HOWEVER, remember to turn it off before you get to him or the fall won't be fatal. Another thing to remember is how you actually get assassinations. Get a little bit more behind him than you think you need, and it's probably closer to where you need to be. Do not try to land anywhere ontop of him, because you can't extend the assassination animation that way. Hope this helps! |

If you look down theres an elite (MAKE SURE HE STAYS IN THAT SPOT) switch to your magnum and also make sure that the difficulty is on legendary, as you are trying to increase your chances of death. Sprint towards the ledge and jump. About midway down back out of the sprint and right before you land (behind the elite) hold the melee button. Good luck guys it took me a few times. |

Watch the Elite below and get his pattern/timing down. Then when he's at the closest point take a few steps back then sprint to the edge and jump. The guys are correct when they tell you that your sprint must be off while free-falling or this won't work. I found the best way to make sure is tap the button in air before getting close to the ground to melee. Took me a bunch of tries but I finally got it. |

Also I found that I was able to jump a little further out when I started my run on top of the rock and jumped the instant I couldn't see land anymore. It guarantees the ability is stopped. It may work better if you put the black eye tilt and iron skulls on with Legendary difficulty but I don't know for concern. All I know was it worked for me. Also I used the assault rifle and not the pistol, it seems to have longer melee range and gave me alot more assasinations than the pistol did. |

Sprint off, sprint on, jump behind the Elite, jump on the elite, pistol, assault rifle, head stomp animation, neck stab animation, etc... Well I finally took a whack a week later and tried something I hadn't done yet. I looked literally straight down as I came down on the elite and assassinated him. To my surprise I finally got it, THANK GOD! Oddly enough I got an animation that belied me being on the ground when I got it? So it's kind of confusing but check my file share at this link and grab the video to watch what I did from my eyes. It should help to actually see what someone who tried relentlessly did to finally get it. Also, watching someone else's video in their file share is what made me finally try staring straight down. It took me a couple hours to do it. I got different animations at least 50 times. As I was doing it, I recalled someone on here said that you wouldn't get it if you loaded the last checkpoint, and you should instead restart the level. I gave it a shot, and it worked! I figure you have to get the animation the first time you run through the level. At least, that's how it worked for me. Like I said before, I did it at the start of "Pillar of Autumn" on Legendary. Nothing else special, no skulls or anything. I just had to do it on the first jump. |

Pretty sure at least 100 of them are from the pillar of autumn and another 10 or so from Nightfall. I'm getting the animation, the fall is enough to kill me (plenty of deaths to prove it!!) Tried with Legendary, Heroic, skulls on, skulls off, scoring on, scoring off, lowering shields before, not lowering shields, landing on him, behind him, everything possible and I still don't seem to be able to get this - Anyone know anywhere with good deals for controllers nad telly's coz I'm gonna need some soon! |

Turned on iron skull on legendary, and did it within 15 tries. After 4 days of trying you have |NO| idea how relieved i was! He keeps moving around, and there are four possible locations he stands in. Two locations you cannot reach him in, two locations you can. The two REACHable (GEDDIT?! I'm so alone....) are the ones at the front of that overturned truck thing. When you see him move there, go back a bit, then hit the gas and just hurl yourself over the edge. Despite the game awarding a successful assassination, it is not enough. You may will notice that an assassination cut-scene takes a fraction of a second to kick-in after you pressed B. If you've tried this achievement many times you will notice you will hit the floor or land on the elite slightly before the cut scene. The difficult thing is to jump accurately enough to guarantee that the short time you need to hold B leaves you off the ground/elite. This all of has to be balanced with when you cancel the sprint mid-air. I successfully assassinated the guy 100 times before i realised this, then it just took me 5 attempts to do it twice on 2 friend's games. Take care. |

The elite will move around in sort of a triangular formation but eventually he will move onto the dirt off the road. When this happens, run back and sprint off the edge (note that while in mid air, turn of Sprint with the "LB" Button) and when you get near enough, hold the "RB" Button to assassinate him. |

If for any reason the Elite starts to wander before you reach him, you can always reactivate the Jetpack's thursters and try again. Things that worked for me: -use the handgun -walk to the edge by the rock & look down at the eliteto line up your jump -you only have to sprint for a second or two so don't back up too far before you jump. -stop sprint about halfway down -melee just milliseconds before you land on him looking down the whole time I did this on normal difficulty, no skulls or anything like that. Watch the youtube video it helped me a lot. |

The best place to get this is on the last mission (not Lone Wolf because that isn't really a mission). You can do it on any difficulty, except easy. Just run and jump off the cliff at the begining of the mission when the elite is near it. You will have to jump off near the larger rock near some bushes, when jumping you'll have to hold down the sprint ability and let go of it right before you perform the assassination move on him. *Note - If you accidentally bump into the elite before the assassination it won't count because you will have technically survived the fall. The fall has to be approx. 50 Meters which it will tell you when your zoomed in with the visor. Good luck to anyone who goes for this one. |

The hardest part is not to actually land on the back of the elite, you want to be behind him and not on top of him. That way, if you miss the assasination, you'd end up dying rather than breaking your fall on the elite and live from that. However, there is one grassy section behind the truck to the right that can be glitchy, I've lived through several missed jumps in that area so I have a feeling if that glitch happens while you're trying for the achievement, it'll cause you not to get it. Stay away from that grassy patch! |

On Nightfall the Elite is much closer so you can worry less about the running and jumping and more about the assassination. Despite what the achievement description says, the fall does not need to be fatal. The fall at the start of Nightfall only does 50% shield damage. |

After 2 days of continued attempts and over 300 deaths I did get this achievement. I also did alot of research in between. This achievement isn't glitched..it isn't even buggy, it's just really really picky about the circumstances required to occur for it to pop. It doesn't matter where you do it (nightfall or pillar) doesn't matter what skulls etc etc, all that extra stuff it doesnt matter, you can be on normal or higher. There was a video on youtube that alerted me to the difference in when you do the melee(it comes down to basically milliseconds) but once I realized it I got it after 10-15 attempts. You'll notice my frustration near the end of the video where I basically keep messing up and having to restart, but it culminates into me landing the assassination perfectly(you'll notice the different animation from the failed attempt and also the timing of the melee) Honestly if I can do this any of you can, just know that the achievement will not come easy. just do a little video hunting and learn what you can about the frames and such and you |

Here are some tips of what I did to get this achievement. 1) Switch To Pistol No reason other than making it easier for you to see what you are doing. Since Pistol takes up less screen. 2) Pick One Spot Elite Goes To Pick one of the two closer spots the elite goes to and watch him to go to that spot and remember how long it takes him to get there. I found going back and forth kind of screwed my timing and distance up making it harder and more time consuming. Make sure you watch him to make sure he is going to your spot not the opposite. You actually want to land just behind his neck. If you are landing in front or on top move the spot you are jumping from back a hair away from edge of cliff. If you are falling short move it towards the end of the cliff. Make sure to control your jump while landing. There is a red bush on the right side that is what I used to figure out where to jump. I had several melee hits and survived, don’t get frustrated it just means you are close. The more frustrated you get with this the longer it is going to take you. I watched all the possible videoes on youtube, cleared my cache, etc, etc. Done the 'Assassination' over 150 times in the correct motion (jumping on the head) I release sprint with loads of time to get the right fall speed and still nothing. Do not understand this fkd up achievement! PLEASE HELP!!! |

I switched to nightfall and did it this way; Sneak up on the first elite, melee him but don't assassinate as it could wake up the 2 sleeping grunts, kill the 2 sleeping grunts with a whack to the head as well, I did this with the pistol. continue along the trail until you get a checkpoint (just so you have a close place to re=try from)then move a little way back along the trail, maybe a few meters, just so you are over looking the purple tall thing (I don't know what it is called or what it does)the elite moves around quite fast so watch the full circuit a few times to get a feel and then when he is nearest the cliff run and jump off and assassinate, I found |

You don't need to do anything like resetting the cache or remove/retrieve your gamertage (wtf!), I'd say it's harder than the Mile High Club achievement on MW, and that was something! When mine popped, I didn't die from it, the power for my health was flashing red and I lost one bar of health (so the blocks were flashing yellow) Ran up to the checkpoint on nightfall (melee killed the elite at top and two grunts) got the save, then ran back along the path I just came from and jumped up to the left to stop the annoying computer sniper disturbing them. I then sprinted across to the elite on the ground, spun around and snapped his god damn annoying neck. |

The only way I was able to get this achievement is on the very beginning of the Pillar of Autumn. At the very start of the mission you are on a ridge where you can look down and see an elite patroling a small area directly below. I got this achievement by backing up about three steps, activated my sprint ability and jumped off the cliff and landed on the elite (doing this requires carful timing, where you must wait for the eliute to stop on one of his patrol spots.) |

Pillar of Autumn Method: Bungies FAQ basically said that you have to fall at the same direction as the melee or your speed will change to the melees before hes assassinated. So fall directly behind, looking down and smack just behind his head. Nightfall Method: The reason I prefer this one is that you take "Terminal Falling Velocity" and replace "Top running speed" Sprint runs just as fast as your falling speed before they instantgib you. The melee is actually now the same direction as you should be traveling (forward) and will just lunge you ahead as to changing your fall speed. If you attempt the kill, see the animation but the achievement fails to pop, restart the mission at that time. Reattempt and reassess. Basically, if you see the animation and the achievement doesn't pop, you must restart the mission. You may then attempt it over and over again until you see the animation. If you don't get it upon seeing the animation, then go ahead and restart the mission. I tried this on not 2 but 3 accounts and found this to be the solution. If you see the animation but don't get it, then that 'restart' is bad and you must then go ahead and restart again. Every time you have a failed animation, that means you must restart. |

I got kind of lucky that I pulled the Checkpoint save at just as the Once More Into the Breach label showed up and the elite was in the right place near the truck. I was able to run off the cliff without looking each time and after a few goes at it - I did 4 perfect back to back assassinations (and the jumping on the head animation repeated each time) and the achievement unlocked on the forth one. This is my second day attempt at this - spent a good couple of hours yesterday to no avail - got it within about half an hour today. I'd say that this requires an extremely accurate set of requirements to get this - basically beyond a players control - but is doable if you stick with it. Good luck! |

Best I can figure is that it's just coincidental when people performed certain things and they think that is how they got the achievement. Honestly what difficulty/skulls you are on, the animation you get, checkpoints/restart, etc don't make any difference. After reading Bungie's comment on the achievement the only factor which seems to matter is to maintain terminal velocity. This means a couple of things: Cancelling sprint as soon as you can (to increase falling speed rather than travelling speed). Face down at an angle not forward so when you lunge the movement is down and not forward (and therefore not slowing your descent) And landing directly behind the Elite, not on him. Took me about a week to get, successfully performing about 100 assassinations and committing suicide over 1000 times. I normally play at a friend's house, local Co-op. I'm almost always P2. In fact, after he logged out we discovered I actually didn't have a save file because he was primary every time. He had to log back in to give me access to The Package. He got it first assassination as P1, then sat there for days watching me fail and not understanding what was different about my attempts. Then we logged my gamertag in as P1, and what do you know, first assassination it pops. So the glitch with this achievement is that it only counts for player 1. If you're playing any other slot, give up, it won't work. |

The crosshair was white, not red (aim just off the elite) After getting the animation several times, i figured that the 'load' itself was glitched, not the achievement. If you get the animation, but no achievement, don't restard the save. Instead, quit and load up the mission again from the begining (pillar of autumn). After doing this about 20 times (also 20 minutes) the first assassination i did successfully was when i got the achievement. No glitch, no checkpoint reverting problems, just simple. The mission before the last mission, where it's just you and Emile, heading towards the gun that shoots the scarabs and everything, there should be a cliff that you walk past. Down there, there should be a elite, facing the other way, now if you wait to long, the elite will start moving, and you'll lose your chance in getting this achievement, the best thing to do at that moment, is to sprint and as you jump let go of sprint, that should give you enough distance to get right behind the elite and just enough air to where if you don't make the assassination you die. I was basically on auto-pilot because by now I can almost do it in my sleep. Really. The final one was different because I was certain I had failed, my jump was way off, I landed on the elites left shoulder and I thought I wasn't even behind him. But since I was barely paying attention I think I hit the meleebutton too early. I could barely even see the elite, all I saw was the dirt road in front of him. but number six stomped on his head and popped the achievement anyway! Most random achievement ever. |

I waited for him to fully do a 180 turn then I ran and jumped. Make sure to turn your sprint off, at least I turned mine off, and then waited till I was behind him in the air by 2 to 3 inches then assassinated. My problems were: (1) I was hitting RB too soon and (2) I usually didn't provide enough space between me and the elite to perform the assassination. Trust me when I say that I was just as frustrated as the rest of you. Good luck guys and gals and everything in between! |

The jump and timing aren't so hard once you've done it a few times, but even when the assassination animation takes place after turning off sprint, the achievement will likely not pop for many tries. I know I was doing it correctly because EVERY time I missed the Elite, I died instantly. There are even times that you will just melee the Elite and it will not do the full animation, just the hit which pisses him off then you just restart and try again. At least the checkpoint on Pillar of Autumn is right by the cliff. Going through a level only to have it fail this many times would be unbearable. |

At the start of the mission you will see the first Elite. Beat him down, don't assassinate him because it will alert every enemy in the area. After you kill him, you will see the second Elite below you. Wait until he's not facing you. Make sure to sprint towards him, jump for it, and attack him right when you're about to touch the ground. It took me about 7 successful assassinations to get achievement, but I believe that it's WAY easier to get your 25G in this mission rather than at the Pillar of Autumn. |

I had done pretty much everything listed, that being: On Pillar of Autumn, with Black Eye on Heroic, using grenades to weaken yourself before the checkpoint. I used the assault rifle with Recon control settings (not sure it matters)and turning off sprint mid-air. But the one change I made after trying 50-60 times was to STOP pushing forward on the left joystick and just simply drop behind the elite. With this change I got it on the 2nd try. | Comment #420 by SloMoo Tuesday, January 15, 2013 @ 10:29:02 PM WOO-motherf@cken-HOO!!! This achievement took me forever. PoA, with Iron, Black Eye, and Tilt skulls on Legendary is the way to go! Gotta get the jump off right at the edge of the cliff and look straigth down. i turned off sprint right before I hit the melee button. got the knife stab to the neck cutscene. My best advice if you're not getting this take a few days off and try again. The jump right at the edge of the cliff was what i did different today. It gives you an extra bit of height to the fall. My strategy on Pillar of Autumn was to wait until the elite moved to the little red bush just behind the overturned bus, then I jumped directly on top of him (turned off sprint 1/2 to 2/3 of the way down)& timed the melee just right. And I had started from the beginning of the level for the achievement to pop. I started from the respawn point & got the assassination a couple of times but no achievement. (didn't use any skulls) |

Got everything knife animation possible for it and still nothing. Watched more videos than sanely should have been allowed and all give different ways of doing it and yet none work for me. Will try nightfall but not very hopeful. Definitely one of the worst halo achievo's ive ever had to do (-_-) |

My only tip is when you are in the air and turned off sprint, try to position your body perfectly with the back of his, just running and jumping straight at him resulted in missed melee's and then splattered spartan on the ground. |

Now that I've finally done it (on Nightfall by the way), I'm quite certain that the reason this doesn't work isn't the sprinting problem. I sprinted all the way through the air up onto the Elite and still got it. Instead, the real reason it doesn't work is that you mustn't hold the left joystick forward while assassinating. I got the achievement the first time I tried that way. Hope it'll work for you guys! |
