    Tame and ride 5 dragons

  • How to unlock Dragonrider

During the story of this DLC, you will learn a new shout called 'Bend will'. You must then use this shout at its full power(holding down ) on any dragon that you may encounter. The dragon will then land allowing you to mount it by walking up to it and activating it with . When you have mounted the dragon, it will proceed to take off and fly in its own fashion, as you cannot control its flight path. To dismount the dragon, press at any time and the dragon will find a suitable place to land for you to dismount. Repeat this 4 more times and the achievement is yours.

You first get the oppurtunity to do this in the final story mission 'At the Summit of Apocrypha' and the dragon you use does count towards the achievement. A good way to do this is to fast travel to any dragon shrine locations you may have discovered and use your 'Bend Will' shout on any dragon that may be present.

This can also be obtained whilst in the original Skyrim world, as well as in Solstheim.

  • Bad...Ass...
  • Just came.
  • Fuck. Yes.
  • I'm really interested in how this is done. I hope it would be like breaking a wild horse & you can do it to any dragon you encounter. The stronger the dragon the harder it would be :D
  • I just completed the main storyline in this dlc. You will get a new shout which you use on dragons and then you can go up to them an press "A" to ride them. It is really awesome. you can decide who the dragon should attack and you can even cast spells while riding a dragon. You will have to ride one at the end of the storyline where you get to learn it too.
  • I was a tiny bit disappointed by the dragon riding. You cannot control his flight, or even steer him. You can target lock and order the dragon to attack, plus cast spells from the dragon's back, but that's the limit of your control. If you were hoping to be able to climb on a dragon's back and just sail anywhere and everywhere, well, too bad. Still, it is cool to be airborne. Also the shout you use is "Bend Will," not "Become BFF's With A Dragon". So once you land he'll eventually revert back to enemy status and you'll have to kill him. It would be nice if there were more dragons who were actual allies in the game. Just a thought.
  • @6 Obviously not, prick.
  • Wow #7, that was entirely unnecessary. Anywho, Once I picked up the Bend Will shout I used it on a Legendary Dragon and flew him around places. Once the shout's cooldown elapsed I'd set him down, wait for him to become a hostile target again, and bend his will again. I did this four times. The fifth was in the main quest's last mission, but the achievement didn't pop. Thus, I think you really do need to tame and ride five INDIVIDUAL dragons, instead of taming and riding the same one over and over. Just a side note in case someone thought there was an easier way to get this achievement.
  • #7: You're either 12, or a member of the dev team. I'm thinking the former. I see no reason why the game couldn't have made riding a dragon just like riding a horse. Take him where you want. Also, why not be able to ally with dragons, instead of just a "you're temporarily hypnotizing him" thing? Because it would require you to be intelligent, it would surely be too much to expect to you explain intelligently why that's such an unreasonable thing to want in the game.
  • @7 You are such a douche
  • travel back to skyrim, Fast travel to each of the dragon, let the dragon land, bend will shout, ride. fastest way to do it. not a fan of the restricted riding, but I'm sure they had their reasons to keep it that way. rather have a working game than something glitched.
  • dragon nest/roost*
  • well, i usually tame 1 dragon then fast travel to where the giants are or where i know there are people to kill like the stormcloak or emperial camp then i have fun killing everyone while riding my dragon :) besides that, riding dragon isn't very useful or even fun. It would have been much better if it was like in Divinity 2: eco draconis. the dragon transformation there and battling those fortresses and other dragons was awesome. this is 5 years outdated as far as dragon riding is.
  • went to fight a dragon while riding a dragon... how boring, even if you lock on the other dragon, all they do is turn in circle and almost never hurt each other... I correct my previous statement, they are not 5 years outdated, they are 10 years outdated!!! they should have hired some of the pc modder who did a hundred times better or at the very least bought their mod, would have been so much better then this dragon riding crap.
  • happy with the flying but is it possible to marry a dragon ?..............
  • For those of you looking for an easy way to get this achievement go back to Skyrim, fast travel to any of the dragon symbols on the map, use the "Bend Will" shout on the dragon, ride him, instantly land and fast travel to another dragon symbol, rinse and repeat. Bish, bash, bosh.
  • Riding dragons is a pretty big letdown. I much prefer killing them.
  • This has glitched for me. Rode 10 dragons and no achievement. Would be the last achievement I need.
  • Sofar it will only work on legendary dragons. Am I doing something wrong? Beside that it is a waste of time to ride a dragon. I agree with most above about how you should be able to control the dragon. If you could it would have been a good feature instead of a waste.
  • no need for legendary dragon, although it popped after 10 dragon
  • i was looking forward to this achievement and after i got it i found out you can only fly the dragon in a small circle, would have been better if you could fly it anywhere.
  • @15 gonna be STRANGE looking babys
  • im having problems with the bend will shout. should you do it when the dragon is flying or when he lands? done it several times but there's no effect on the dragon.
  • of course you coinveniently forgot to mention that you cant control the "dragon riding". i love the enthusiasm bethesda. dont wanna lose sales for shitty glitchy rush jobs.
  • @22 and 15. That would create a whole new idea of the term dragon born.
  • Took me about 8 dragons(7 if you don't count the one for the Dragonborn DLC storyline) to get this achievement. Kinda disappointed, but whatever. Won't argue with an easy 20g.
  • Was so looking forward to using dragons as my own personal vehicle.
  • probably ridden about 9 dragons but it still hasnt popped, im going to have to start going around dragon burial area thingys and taming them ones, hopefully that will work... very disappointed that you cant control them as much as most people would have hoped for aswell
  • Ok so there is a glitch - thanks cause I've ridden 6 different dragons and still nothing so I'll keep riding them lol
  • Got it - took me 7 different dragons = 1 in the new DLC dragon born & 6 in skyrim & finally got it lol 74 out of 75 / only 1 more to go ohhhh yeah lol I love this game now I've spent a total of over 600 hours gotta love only having the winter off of work lol
  • Can anyone confirm the theory that these must be individual dragons rather than the same dragon on repeat? I started the dragonborn DLC on my second character, but completed the original story on my first, so I haven't done much exploring with my current character and don't have many dragon points marked. Sure would be a headache if I have to go rediscover them all for a lousy 20G's...
  • To answer my own question: Five TYPES of dragons. That is, you ride 5 different 'revered dragons', it counts as one. You ride a 'revered dragon' and a 'serpentine dragon', it counts as two. It's bs, but it works.
  • Can't control it's flight path. Come on, release a small patch to fix this.
  • Doesn't count for Odahviing, right? Just wanted to make sure.
  • I can confirm it doesnt have to be five different types of dragons. I rode 2 Ancient Dragons, 2 Legendary Dragons, and the Storyline Dragon; the achievement popped no problem. Good luck.
  • I just got it after riding 5 different Dragons, including the DLC story-line dragon that you first ride to beat Miraak. Anyways... I rode all 4 different Dragons... Started at Dragontooth Crater.. found a Ancient Dragon there.. then fast traveled to Ancient's Ascent and found a Revered Dragon.. Then fast traveled to Lost Tongue Overlook and found a Blood Dragon.. Then finally.. fast traveled to Shearpoint and found a Frost Dragon, boom it'll pop instantly. Happy hunting. Sorry I cannot confirm that you can ride the same Dragon on repeat, @ comment 31. Just follow what I did and you'll get it.
  • I love riding dragons!
  • I love riding dragons. Dragonborn DLC sooo worth it.
  • Use Bend Will on dragons five times, it can be on mainland or Solsthiem.
  • One from Story counts towards achievement. So, just revisit 4 dragon lairs in Skyrim and ride dragons
