I wonder if you have to just learn 1 word for all 20 or all 3 words.

That's what I was wondering.

That's 60 words. 3 words for each shout, and you'll get one word from either absorbing a dragon soul, or from a word wall. That's what i believe. If the word walls aren't presumably that many it means you'll have to kill about 50 dragons. This is most likely the best candidate for the most difficult achievement (or time consuming)

@3 no the most time consuming would have to be the level 50 achievment

Sunday, October 09, 2011 @ 02:12:14 PM

@4 Ye I agree level 50 will be the most time consuming but I think this might
be the second most time consuming as dragons spawn randomly and some people will
find it easier than others depending when dragons spawn.

Im guessing there's some kind of dragon "lair" where nobody goes because of, well, loads of dragons! Because the dragons got to come from somewhere :) Might not be until you complete main quest or something though or just search the mountains.

I thought that in order to learn a word of a dragon shout you'd need-

1. To find a Word Wall that had a word of a shout which you'd get
2. To kill a dragon so you could have the ability to learn the word and use it

Figured there was always two pieces to actually learning a word itself.

You will only need 20 souls because all shouts have lvl 1 which is one word one soul then lvl 2 2 words 2 souls and finally lvl 3 3 words 3 souls

This achievement is going to be harder than reaching lvl 50 I've killed 2 dragons already n both of them I had to get help from town guards or wildlife

i just killed a dragon then as soon as i absorbed his soul i tryed unlocking one of the

i'm guessing it means "master 20 shouts" ... i unlocked 20 just now but only mastered 7
and i didn't get the cheevo got 17 souls to spare though so it's only a matter of finding the words (dragons respawn on the dragon icons on the map every now and then just like everything else except for bosses)

I have the same problem Sidewind. I keep finding dragons but not enough words. I have 26 souls left over and am being attacked by dragons faster than I am words. Just today I was attacked by 3 dragons at the same time!!!

Sunday, November 20, 2011 @ 04:39:21 PM

You just need the first word of a shout since that is all it takes to actually activate the shout. There are 20 shouts total so you need all the shouts.

Sunday, November 20, 2011 @ 09:26:57 PM

Getting the shouts isn't hard, it's just time consuming. I'm lvl 31 now and i have 15
15 shouts i think. the places where you can get shouts is by talking to "arnuir" up on high hrothgar, finding the dragon peak or what i should call them.. they are usually up on high mountains, well places you have to climp to get to. and the last is inn normal side quest, or misc objectivs. this isn't an achievement you will get right away, if you just take your time you should have it by the time you finished the game. IF you bother looking for them of course!

So do you actually need to master the shout, or just have one word? If it is the latter, I should have it now, I have 20 shouts, all unlocked. wdhfskdhlsh

To get this achievement you have to defeat Alduin first, b/c you are given the last Thu'um after; you don't need to have all of the shouts maxed :~)

Anybody have a problem with this achievement not unlocking? I just got my 20th shout today and got no achievement. Before any of you question me, I'm not talking about words. I know 44 words total, and have unlocked all 20 types of shouts.

Aura whisper is glitched for me i have the first word but when i try to get either of the second locations it trys to give me hunt instead of seek when that happens the word doesnt show up in shouts tab so i cannot unlock it and on top of that the third word wall wont even work after this happens. if anyone has any ideas i could use the help i reverted back past the second and third word but theres no way to get back past the first one got it so early on.

I am having issues getting the last word to the Elemental Fury shout..I know where it is but when I got to collect it nothing happens. The music plays and everything and I even see the swirls of air around me but it doesn't give me the Word and am wondering if I am doing anything wrong. I have already completed Breaking Dawn so I don't know what else to do..

Alrighty then! Whew! Alright, tips.
1. Some of these are guarded by Dragons. Be prepared for anything!
2. Many can be found by finding the "Dragon Point" symbol on your map, an icon that looks like a Dragon skull will indicate a Word Wall location for a shout.
3. Some you must do quests for, advance to a certain level to do specific quests, and advance through questlines for factions.
4. Shouting enough outside in the wilderness can sometimes attract Dragons for souls.
5. Outside Word Walls usually have Dragons perched atop or near them. Kill them for a free soul to unlock that Shout!
6. Do the Main Quest for a good arsenal of Shouts.
7. Some Dungeons have SEVERAL Word Walls in them. Clear the dungeons out, folks! If you want to be absolutely sure.
8. For the ones on mountains. A w

Ah! Sorry again! Long post!

8. For the ones on mountains. A word of advice. MASH the jump button constantly! You'll get up a Hell of a lot faster. Just also look for good candidate spots to jump to.
9. Shouts need Dragon Souls to unlock. And a lot of people think they don't have them, and freak out if it says "Dragon Souls are required to unlock Shouts". Remember to press the correct button. They'll unlock if you actually DO have the Dragon Souls. ;)

Hope I helped you guys. Also hope I don't get busted for revealing every Shout and Word Of Power in the entire game...

This achievement and reaching level 50 are the last two I need. It has been a HELL of an experience! I'm new to the elder scrolls games but I'm thinking about backtracking to Oblivion because of how much I enjoyed this one. Hoping for some DLC in the future! :D

I'm level 60 and only have 19 shouts.. Did I do something wrong? I only have 2 more achievements to get, this one and the collect 15 daedra artifacts 1. I only have 1 more quest "the cursed tribe" can't find a damn daedra heart

@28 Here are some daedra heart locations:

1.The kid in the dark brotherhood sells daedra hearts (she's in the sanctuary.)
2. The elf Enthir in college of winterhold sells them.
3. The Companions building Jorrvaskr has one on a pate at the end of the living quarters downstairs.

To learn shouts is easy if you go to the locations received on the letters called "Letter from a friend" delivered by the courier you'll meet in any big city. The quest markers will be "Find the source of power in ... (location)".

I personally do not think the achievement is worth the amount of time it takes to get it. I had learned 52 Words of Powered by the time i finally learned the 20th shout. they should've made it worth more. That's just my opinion. same with Delver and skill book achievement.

Unfortunatley this bugged for me, I asked the greybeard guy for shout locations, and that was going just fine. Then one of them (I think in Valhume) is on a wall, you can hear the chanting-voice thing, but you just don't absorb the word. Boo!

So, anyone now? Do you have to completely learn all 3 words of each shout?

Sunday, November 18, 2012 @ 05:57:49 AM

@60 It is possible that your game glitched, it happened to me at a Word Wall, i had a quick look on the net and someone said if you save your game near (not right next to) the "glitched" wall turn off the console (don't know if you can just quit the current game or return to dashboard instead) then switch back on, load the game and try again. It worked for me and i haven't had much problem since, try it out. (unless you've already sorted it out considering you posted over a month ago xD)

Wish I'd read these comments earlier. I had been following the achievement guide trying to locate each and every word listed there. Nice to know I only have to bother with one word from each shout. Just need two or three more then.
