Factory Zero Achievement in Deus Ex: Human Revolution

  • Factory Zero

    70

You survived The Missing Link using no Praxis kits, weapons, or explosives. Whoa.

  • How to unlock Factory Zero

A list of things you will want to take into account:

    • Do NOT use any praxis points to upgrade your augmentations.
    • Do NOT fire a weapon or use an explosive.
    • You CAN pick up a weapon or explosive.
    • Stealth and takedowns are key.

You will want to stealth your way through this DLC to get the achievement. Getting into gunfights isn't a good idea, because obviously, you can't use guns. You're limited to level 1 hacks ONLY, you can only takedown 1 enemy at a time, and you will have to wait the maximum amount of time for your energy to restore so you can use more takedowns.

This achievement may seem daunting, but if you approach it right, it isn't too bad.

  • I like this one :-)
  • I'm not gonna lie, I love this achievement. I kind of wanted something like this for the original 1000, but DLC is ok.
  • wow that's sweet
  • O.O .... u wot.... lol u got bigger stones then me buddy lol
  • I just did this but no achievement. Sigh.
  • Do your fists count as a weapon? lol
  • Ok I've figured it out, although the achievement says do not use any praxis KITS, you cannot upgrade your augmentations at all, not even with praxis points rewarded by gaining XP. Kinda sucks. :P
  • I was actually going to ask about that. So core abilities playthrough. Sweet. I'm about to attempt this on GIVE ME DEUS EX.
  • So can you still kill people, just not with weapons?
  • i have a feeling this is gonna be a bitch =_=
  • Awesome!!!!
  • Registered just to comment here...lol. I got this achievement, not too hard. A LOT of sneaking and non-lethal takedowns. If you haven't figured it out yet in the main game, enemy bodies can be dragged near lasers to turn them off. Without any upgrades, you'll be unable to hack anything. Take out all the enemies and loot for pocket secs. You can't kill anyone, not even robots, you can never even fire off a shot to draw attention. Just don't pick up any guns or grenades, remove tempation. You have to melee-kill the boss.
  • What about lethal takedowns? Do they count against you? I usually do non-lethal, but for some reason, I noticed I killed one guard so far (not on purpose).
  • Sorry for the double post - I meant that one of my non-lethal takedowns seemed to kill the guard. Weird.
  • i got this. just play on easy, no weapon,grenade/mines and Praxis kits pickup. if you accidently took some ammo thats fine it wont void the achievement. hostile state is ok too, at some places i just ran cause cant be bothered sneaking around. just make sure save often cause you might pick up something accidently.
  • Awesome!
  • @15 Picking up stuff doesn't void the achievement. Just can't use them.
  • @7 if it took you time to figure that out your seriously braindead!
  • Can you do this DLC anywhere from the game or does it just pick up when you enter cryo pod or something?
  • @19: If you click on the downloadable content tab in the main menu you can play just this. I was hoping it would be added into the game like Mass Effects DLC was
  • I finished the whole addon with no use of praxis kits, weapons, explosives etc. I only used non-lethal take downs and never killed a person and yet the achievement did not pop. I pulled out weapons and things but never once fired them or used blades. I was spotted as some points I had to run because of the amount of enemies just to get through an area. Damn it. I think it was actually harder doing that than in the main game to get the 3 100G achievements as more times in this you end up cornered with lots of enemies and with no praxis upgrades no augmentations to use invisibility to hide, strength to make new ways or hacking to disable some security. Still great addon though a bit too much backtracking - but it is Deus Ex so the core gameplay is great. Have to try again and hope it fire
  • @21; same issue, and yes played almost identical. I thought the chi was glitched, and waiting for the patch.
  • I haven't gone too far into this yet. Can anyone give me an idea of how long it is?
  • Picked up and reloaded guns, never fired a shot but no achi >
  • i havent started this one yet but do intend to. Now i know there aload of dos and donts concerning picking up weapons im just gunna ignore the temptation as i know that im more than capable with takedowns and that the store is crap, so i dont need the cash. Praxis Kits and points are the same so no touching... (SERIOUSLY CRYING OVA HERE lol) main question: at the end, if ur not allowed to use praxis kits / weapons or explosives how do you deal with the box guard when dealing with burke? i rekon i can deal with burke and the other guards but that box guard.....
  • well i've just done a quick run through, all non-lethal takedowns, no weapon / ammo pick ups, nor did i pick up or use any praxis kits / points. i reached the box guard at the end and died everytime cuz that bugger kept followin me, when i went back to a previous save i grabbed a EMP (i thought and hoped it wouldnt count as an explosive) but that didnt work no achievement. any and ALL suggestions for that box guard are welcome.
  • You don't have to deal with the box guard (I didn't). As soon as you start in that room go left and there is a container. Go onto that, press up against it, wait for guard to go and drop down and get behind something but head quickly for the far wall. Up the ladder and onto the roof where burke is, take down ogre guard then drop through hole and take down burke (achievement for this if not spotted). Go out and down following left wall now, take down lone guard then up ladder for final 2 snipers. Then it ends and the guy talks; no idea what happens with box guard. Still I never got achievement :( Guess it may even count pulling out a weapon as using it even if you never fire it.
  • using stuff would imply equiping it so i'd say go through the game and avoid all pick ups, what about health/energy bars ? might go through the game once all guns blazing to get a feel for it then do this..
  • well ive got all achievements except this one for the DLC and ive got a save near the end where i havent touched any praxis / weapons or ammo so i will ignore the box guard and report on my success or failure lol
  • hey everyone, just got the achievement. i didnt pick up any weapons/ ammo or praxis kits. i did use the praxis kits or points used takedowns on the enemies that were in my way and ran and dodged the others. when i reached the end boss fight i dealt with the soldiers and burke. the hacker disables the box guard and turrets, once ur done chattin at the boat the achievement will pop.
  • @17, if you pick up mines granades and weapos, it will void the achievement. as pulling out a gun and have granade as standby will void it.
  • @28, using energy & health items is fine. I just got the achievement and used plenty of energy items. Would've been alot harder if you couldn't.
  • can i use paxis points that i'm awarded for ranking up? just curious because that's the only thing i am confused about
  • @31, just got the achievement and I accidentally picked up a Concussion Grenade. Extremely fun achievement, was a good challenge.
  • The achievement gives you specific parameters to follow: -Do NOT use any weapons, don't even equip them -Do NOT use any explosives, don't even equip them -Do NOT use any praxis kits/points, don't even pick them up or spend them Just go through it following these rules and you're guaranteed the achievement, goddamn. The game is somewhat short and very easy complete, even on DX mode.
  • Someone said they did this and didn't receive the achievement. I just did it too and didn't get it. It was a pain not using the parxis kits or the stun gun. I did pick things up so maybe that was the problem. Also I put up and purchased the praxis kits even though I didn't use them.
  • cheers #32 :D will be working on this over the next few days will post up my results ;)
  • Just got this :) i didn't pick up ANYTHING just to be on the safe side, did as full non lethal takedowns as possible (just ran fast past the ones i could). Didn't do anything to box robot at the end and it just disappeared, and did non lethals on the rest of Burke and his team :) 100%d this now, woo :D
  • *few non lethal
  • Question: Can you throw the red barrles to kill guards? or are they considered 'explosives' for this achievement? (so vague, hard to know if its just grenades and mines... come to think of it, gas grenades shouldn't be considered 'explosive'... )
  • Not as hard as it sounds, this achievement. Just play it through on easy, avoid people as much as possible and reatreat after every takedown to let the energy bar recharge.
  • @ #12 LoL @ "pocket secs." Also, hate these ambiguous cheevos that sound simple enough, but leave so much room for debate and misinterpretation; can anyone say if picking up weapons/ammo/explosives voids the achievement??? I just started, ahven't fired a shot, but have picked up weapons... fack it, I'm starting over...
  • You can pick up weapons, grenades, mines, ammo, anything- you just can't shoot weapons, use any kind of mines or grenades. No stun gun or tranquilizer. You can also pick up the praxis kits after you get your armor, you just can't spend any of those points. You can use the power bars, booze and hypostims though. The only way to kill guards is wth melee kills. Not sure about throwing barrels, but I did use a fire extinguisher and was okay.
  • This was my first DXHR achievement that didn't unlock when expected... Never used a praxis point, fired a weapon or used an explosive. What I did, though, was throwing a box at a camera once, applying upgrades to weapons and combining mine templates with grenades - but I didn't use them. Then I did another run through in about 1.5 hours, literally just running past most of the enemies, setting off alarms like crazy, ignoring any side quests - and got the achievement in the end.
  • I wish some people above would get their facts correct, I picked up items, never used them and it unlocked.
  • Can you disable mines?
  • Well, crap. I JUST started The Missing Link an hour ago, came here to get some help with the achievement...and someone says I can't equip any of the weapons (I picked up a Stun Gun and Pistol, but equipped the Stun Gun just in case I slipped on the trigger or something)...therefore, I just nullified my attempt to get this achievement. Well, I'm not starting over now. I'll just keep going as long as possible without using any of the weapons.
  • bah, this achievement is along the lines of Half-life ep.1's single bullet achievement....truthfully I don't mind that.
  • I think you can equip a gun as long as you never fire it. I picked one up because I planned to save, get the "All of the Above" cheev and then reload to the save and go ahead without using the gun. When I had to escape the elevator, it automatically drew the gun and the achievement unlocked fine at the end of the game.
  • I found this surprisingly easy to do . . . would have gotten it on my first run through if I had realized that merely picking up a Praxis kit counts as 'using' it (even if you don't apply the point).
  • Just want to add my utter fury that I didn't get this, I'm guessing my accidental equipping of a rifle (without firing a shot) voided it, I sure as hell didn't use a praxis kit or explosive. Shenanigans people, utter shenanigans
  • its the same thing with pacifist only more anal. mine got voided because i triggered a mine, and a enemy also triggered a mine. its the same for pacifist, the bad guys in the end trip those when they are going "28 days later" on your ass.
  • I like games like this and Crysis 2 that encourage Sandbox gameplay, thinking outside the box to do the same thing multiple ways. Especially in this game, where you can have different chat options, or even save or end lives.
  • So, if I picked up weapons and grenades I wont get the achievement?
  • Just got the dlc-got this achmnt-didnt pick up any weapons,grenades-did a mix of lethal and non-lethal takedowns and it unlocked! Thanks and keep on gaming!!
  • Oh man only pick up guns & reloaded them NEVER SHOT ONE & only knocked out guys NO KILLS - The only thing I can think of was I used fire extinguishers to distract guards Never threw to close to them - Fucking sucks AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol oh wee F it 1 more time
  • I can see this being like Pacifist and Foxiest of Hounds. Both of them failed to unlock for me, and left me 200g shy of what I already should have. Picked it up in sale for 600msp, so thinkin of actually starting it tonight. Gonna take some advice from these posts.
  • Just got Factory Zero on my first try. Didn't pick up ANY weapons. I used tons of candy bars and hyperstims I picked up ammo by accident I was spotted and hostile several times (enemies and turrets) I disarmed mines (but didn't pick them up) I killed Burke (lethal takedown)
  • I got the achievement my first try, i did pick up weapons and explosives to sell them to Quinn. I even had an emp grenade equipped at one point and it didn't void the achievement. Accidentally setting off mines and typhoon towers will void it though. Lethal takedowns are okay too, i used them so the guards wouldn't wake their buddies if i got stuck when they found the body. What i think is happening is that most players will set off a mine or something by accident, the best action is to carefully deactivate them, or (when it comes to the typhoon towers) just avoid them entirely.
  • Can't wait for more DLC from them. Keep the challenges coming
  • I really don't understand why so many people picked up weapons, mines etc. If you're going for the achievement you're not going to use them anyway so why pick them up in the first place???
  • what if we just take out our weapon but dont shoot? does that void it?
  • Awwww crap! I used my earned Praxis Points and invalidated the achievement! Noooooo! I hope drawing weapons but not firing them doesn't mean the same too :(
  • didnt pick up anything "lethal" to be sure of gettin it thou there were a few times when i really wish i had a grenade on me to send a group of stooges flyin or emp for the bloody turrets watchin the doors. not being able to hack was a bit of an adjustment too.
  • This is what I did to get the achievement: -DLC Started -I obtained my ARMOR only which was required to complete the first quest line -After obtaining my armor I didn't pick up a single thing that wasn't part of the quest-line (much easier than it sounds) -I killed some guards and knocked some out by using my lethal and non-lethal takedowns -I didn't grab or pick up ANY praxis-kits, nor did I use the points I acquired from experience -I disabled mines but did not pick them up after disabling them -No mines were triggered that affected guards -Guards did blow each other up sometimes with their own grenades Those are some of the things that happened during my play-through which still gave me the achievement. Also, at the end, when you have to kill burke, ignore the bot - once
  • ^^^^ Edit - Above continued ^^^^ Those are some of the things that happened during my play-through which still gave me the achievement. Also, at the end, when you have to kill burke, ignore the bot - once you kill burke, the bot will explode on its own. Best advice I can give you in one sentence? Don't pick up anything that isn't part of the quest line. Best of luck. This one isnt bad
  • Followed a vid guide trying to get this and I still didn't get it. It mentioned in the achievement guide about being able to only use 1 takedown then having to wait for your energy to replenish. I think I ate one of those energy bars. Oh well, I'll attempt this another time.
  • Fun achievement. definitely the way to play.
  • Easy mode, stocked up on all the candy and beers, killed everyone, triggered every alarm. Still got the achievement. Easy enough to run through the entire DLC in an hour or two for this.
  • to the people complaining about not getting this, why would you pull out a weapon and reload it if you know you can't use it? So pointless... you just screwed yourself over because you wanted to look at a gun. I can't decide whether I wanna do this.. I already got pacifist and foxiest on the main playthrough now I kinda wanna have some fun killing people
  • Would like to add my part to this. You can save use paraxis kits to get certain achivements and reload You can pick up everything you like, but as long as you dont use a weapon your fine. Paraxis kits cannot be used. Managed to do this pick up loads of stuff, and still get the achivment to pop.
  • Did this today. Easier than I expected... .
  • The achievement did not pop for me. I did not use any guns, grenades, or upgrades. I did equip guns & grenades and also did lethal take-downs. I'm going to run through a second time doing only non-lethal take-downs and not picking up any guns or grenades. Will update once I finish run
  • CONFIRMED. I got this on second run. I easily ran past alot of guards while ONLY using non-lethal take-downs. I picked up NO guns, ammo, grenades, or praxis kits. I DID use pain killers, stim packs, beer, & energy bars. The robot is destroyed at end after you take down Burke. Hope this helps
  • got it today. I did one or two lethal takedowns, I picked up Burke's golden Magnum and dropped it in a vent a few seconds later (just to spite him, really)... Even managed to save everyone. (open the grate, pick up a small box and bump the big crate with it... if you do it right, you'll automagically drop the small crate, keep walking into that, and it will push the big crate out of the way. after that you only need to pick up a fire-extinguisher and throw it at the poison dispenser at the appropriate time).
  • I cannot figure out what I did to nullify this. What are the possible actions, besides the obvious gunfire, use of praxis kits, and explosives? Does this mean any "weapon"? The only thing I can think of is if I used a weapon, then saved out of habit without noticing it. I don't really feel like another play-through right away, either. I was so certain that I was getting this, too.
  • I don't get why people are confused about this, but it's all explained here http://deusex.wikia.com/wiki/Factory_Zero
  • Man, I must be so unlucky - played through the main game without killing anyone: didn't get pacifist; played through the DLC without firing a weapon, using an explosive or PRAXIS kit (apart from getting an achievement then I reloaded earlier save) and didn't get this achievement either!! Argh, if developers are going to put in a [complete annoying task for the whole game] achievement then they should make sure it's not glitched!
  • Looking forward to trying this DLC the same way that I did the original content - all achievements, 1 play through.
  • Awesome! All of the achievements in one play through!! The only time that I had to save/ load was to get 'That Old Adage'. It was also the only time that I had to use any praxis points. I'm letting you all know that every single achievement (except for 'That Old Adage') within this DLC can be obtained without using a single praxis point and within a single play through. tip: for 'Never Forget' - you need to cart 2 boxes around. You can get these from down below where the container crashed through the floor, where you go to fix the stasis pod. When you go to jump off of that high container (near the mobile container lift), you don't need the Icarus landing system, just aim to land on top of the open door of the container below. You'll take some damage, but you won't die. tip: for 'Al
  • ...'All of the Above' - Take out all of the guards on the lower level before you go to the console, this will make things easier. When you get to the console, instead of choosing who lives and who dies, go back up the ladder. Go down the stairs, to the bottom level. In front of you on the low wall should be a fire extinguisher. You're going to be carting this around with you. In the lower sections of the security tower area you should be able to find long thin cardboard boxes, you'll also be needing one of these. Around the perimeter of this area is a tall heavy crate which is blocking a vent. Drop a long CB box on the side of the tall heavy crate. Run against the side of the CB box, you will notice that the big crate starts to nudge out of the way - no need to spend any praxis on the heav
  • ...heavy lifting upgrade. Keep pushing it until the vent is completely cleared. open the vent. Drag the CB box into the vent with you longways. Once inside, try to place the CB box so that it is standing up on end next to the pipe - no need to spend any praxis on higher jumping. Go grab the Fire Extinguisher. Jump on top of the CB box, jump on top of the pipe. Place the FE on the walkway above you. While still standing on the pipe, look down, pick up the CB box and place it carefully on the pipe next to you so that it doesn't fall back down. Jump on the box, jump to the walkway, pick up the FE, navigate the vent. When you come out of the vent, take aim and huck the FE at the toxin dispersion system. All of the other achievements within this DLC are pretty straight forward while going fo
  • ...for 'Factory Zero'. I thought 'Never Forget" and 'All of the Above' could use some extra explanation because they are more challenging while going for 'Factory Zero'. I also wanted to let people know that it is possible to get every achievement in this DLC in one play through with only one save/ load at the very end to get 'That Old Adage'. I had a lot of fun with this game! I hope that you find this helpful in your play through! Good luck!
  • So I did a test playthrough and I can now say that you can't use ANY items either. I played through and ONLY used energy bars (Snickers) and did not get the achievement. So if you are going for this, don't use ANY items.
  • Greetings, all. This is my first post here, and I felt that I should confirm and/or clarify what previous posters have been saying about this particular achievement, at least as far as the fact that it is woefully lacking in detailed explanation on what you can or can't do. The user above me is correct -- you can't use *ANYTHING* in your inventory at all. You're not even allowed to do so if it would clear space/make room in your inventory for other things you'll want and/or need. This means no enhancing your weapons, no reloading your weapons (which, for some strange reason, counts as "firing a gun"), and definitely no creating new gas/frag/etc. mines. Yes, you *ARE* allowed to pick up more than just Jensen's body armor from the area where most of your equipment has been stashed, con
  • (cont.) Yes, you *ARE* allowed to pick up more than just Jensen's body armor from the area where most of your equipment has been stashed, contrary to what some people have been saying about this. It's perfectly fine as long as you don't try to use anything. Hopefully, this clears up a few things for anyone who might still be confused about this achievement. :D
  • Just got it, and I can confirm that just holding, or even reloading a weapon will not void the achievement.
  • So no, people saying you cannot reload a gun are incorrect, as I reloaded both the Stun Gun and Tranquilizer Rifle, but never fired either. Unless the requirements were changed in the Director's Cut. I was fully explecting to have to do another Missing Link run, as many people said just reloading a weapon would void the achievement.
  • This is a stupid achievement. Pacifist makes sense. Adam probably wouldn't want to kill people. Foxiest of the Hounds makes sense. Adam definitely doesn't want to get caught. But why wouldn't he want to upgrade his tech?? "No thanks, I won't use these twenty Praxis kits I'm carrying around with me because... well, because."
  • And I'm not complaining because it's hard. It's not. I got it my first attempt and only died twice. I'm complaining because it limits the player's enjoyment for no logical reason. No payoff either outside of the 70 cheevo points.
  • Even on Tell Me A Story mode, this is no cakewalk.
