Is this immediately after the first mission after the hostage negotiations?

At what point? Anytime you have a conversation with him?

Doh, should have refreshed before commenting.

Is that the only time you can get this?

After returning from FEMA, I stopped by the office and talked to Pritchard first. Then went to the Boss and used Redirect, Defend, Placate, Defend and got the Achievement.

Thanks for the heads up on the other opportunities, I didn't want to have to wait for a second playthrough to get this one....

1st comment does is INCORRECT! Redirect, Defend, Placate, Defend is the correct order of responses.

Refocus, Defend, Placate, Defend did not work for me. Normal Difficulty. According to GameFaqs, the conversation is randomized.

Perhaps the outcome is randomized like other conversations. I retried getting into the police station using the exact same dialog items and it didn't work, unlike the first one where I just screwed up using the influencing ability when it was offered to me.

However, Refocus, Defend, Placate, Defend did work for me...

non of the above solutions worked for me, i'm playing on hard and the way I got it was
Refocus-defend-placate-refocus.

Basically you have to listen to his answers and answer him in a way that contradicts him.

the final answer should be that you trust him but why doesn't he trust you.

MaxPainAlchmst's one works the best on Give me Deus Ex. That is what I did.

@#5 - I used this method. I did slope of between speaking to Francis and Darif to complete the Cloak... side quest.

Not sure how you guys won the conversation with Sarif with Redirect, Defend, Placate, Defend. It didn't work for me whatsoever. He just got hot headed. All I did was keep redirecting Sarif - Which allowed me to respond to David questioning why he was evading. This worked out way better. NOTE: I am on "Give me deus ex" difficulty.
