Playthrough 1:

Fire up your first playthrough on whatever difficulty you want, there are no difficulty achievements, but playing on Classic WILL ruin the experience, keep it for your 2nd playthrough or if you're just looking for a quick 1000 fix.

First of all, click here for the collectibles guide and keep it close. It contains all locations to relics, coins, shades and Beatrice stones. Coins, shades and virgil (explained in next paragraph) do NOT carry over nor is there a chapter selection screen, so missing one will require a FULL new playthrough in order to get the achievement.
Save often and in different slots.

Second, make sure to talk to Virgil, the poet, every time you see him, and keep talking to him until he disappears. Some of them hand out relics and are also mentioned in the guide. There is one appearance that 'can' be missed and it's the one in the room right before your first boss. Make a small tour in the room and you'll have no trouble spotting him.

Third, pick an alignment and stick with it for your whole first playthrough, by the end of it, you will have reached it's maximum level and be able to purchase all skills in it. I recommend taking unholy first and get to know your scythe moves. If you, for some reason, do not max it out or can't buy all the skills, there's no need to worry as you carry over your stats and relics to your next playthrough.

Lastly, 'Old Friend' and 'Forbidden Love' require you to absolve the shades in question. Even when you're going for Unholy first, DO NOT punish them, but absolve them by pressing . The locations are in the guide, along with a word of warning that you need to absolve them for the achievement.

Once you entered the first circle of hell, remember to punish/absolve shades and enemies, depending on what tree you picked, for they give the needed exp to max out the tree. Enemies that can be punished/absolved will display an symbol when weakened. Minions and babies are punished/absolved by grabbing them with .

While progressing through the game, keep in mind that you have to defeat 20 enemies with a counterattack, and 20 enemies with magic. I suggest doing this on minions, as they die the quickest. The counterattack achievement requires a skill in the Unholy Tree, but it's a lvl 1 skill and easy to obtain early on.
As soon as an enemy is about to land a hit, press . If done correctly, Dante will block in slow-motion. Follow with or to finish the move.

Beating the game will unlock resurrection mode (new game+) and 'Gates of Hell' survival mode.

Playthrough 2:
If you followed the locations guide and focused on 1 tree only in your first playthrough, you should only have 3 achievements left... those for maxing out your second tree and 'Gates of Hell'.
Start a new game and you will be asked to start it in resurrection mode. Accept, choose your difficulty and rip your way through hell while finishing your second tree.

Gates of Hell:
Start Gates of Hell, pick your difficulty and play through 50 waves of enemies with increasing difficulty. You can 'cheat' your way through by spamming relentlessly. This will net you your last achievement for your original 1000

DLC

Dark Forest

This is a single player DLC and will take you a maximum time of perhaps 20 minutes. Dark Forest is a prequel to the main game. It picks up after the opening cutscene of the game where Dante has just finished sewing a cross into his chest. The level involves you walking through a dark forest that can get very disorientating. It ends with a fight against a single monster who is easy to kill no matter what difficulty you choose (you can choose any). Follow the guide here so you don't get lost for Clear Path Not Lost, and simply finish playing through it to get Dark Forest.

The Trials of St Lucia
This DLC is for completing, creating, and rating various trials. The difficulty in some of the EA trials you need to do is absolutely hellish. You will need to do some of them in co-op, so you will need to find a partner to play through with. Find a partner in the achievement trading thread found here. Start off by creating and uploading a single and two player trial to unlock Creationism and Lucy I'm Home. Get a friend to rate one of you trials at least 4 stars to get A Star Is Born. Search for trials by the gamertag "LifeExpectancy". He has made many simple trials on different difficulties. Completing these will make getting Well Played and Play Me! much easier. When searching for these, add a few to your favourites so you don't have to keep searching as often. Adding ten to your favourites list will unlock Do Me A Favour. You will get You're A Player and You're The Best Around on your way to getting these for getting cumulative points. Make sure you rate all of them after playing with any rating, as you will need to rate 100 trials for The Critic.

Finally comes the hard bit. You will be going for It's In The Trial. You have to complete all of the EA trials: 25 single player and 15 co-op ones. You can find general tips here, but be warned some of these are really tricky and will try your patience. A good co-op partner is paramount here. This will be the only achievement remaining for many gamers as it is so much more difficult than the rest of the achievements.

Conclusion:
Dante's Inferno is a very easy 1000, and the DLC makes it a very easy 1260, but the EA trials are really difficult so will give you some problems. The game has a pretty cool story and some fun game play and is pretty much glitch free.

You can wear up two relics, increased by another two if you acquired the extra relic slot skill in both trees. You'll push the head into the sea and the achievement will unlock.

  • Perform a 50 hit combo

    See Poetry in Motion.

  • Perform a 200 hit combo

    See Poetry in Motion.

  • Perform a 666 hit combo

Equip the Coin of Plutus relic (refer to the collectibles guide for the location) as it will extend the delay with three seconds before your hit count resets. Without this, don’t even try it. Be sure to equip it after acquiring, so that you can upgrade it to level three. It will take a few tries to succeed due to unlucky respawns and knockdowns, but it'll work eventually.

    Best locations:

    - Right before the 10 challenges, in the sandy area, you need to push a platform up the hill. Enemies will respawn and annoy you while you do so. Take the opportunity to spam your cross attack until the counter hits 666.

    - One of the 10 trials requires you to stay in the air for 8 seconds. Enemies respawn while you do this, so take the opportunity to spam your cross attack again.

  • Kill 30 Minions

Minions are the regular enemies that you come across during the game. They come unarmed, armed with swords, armed with swords and shields and charred minions also count towards this achievement. There are 100's of these enemies in the game and will unlock as you progress through the story.

  • Kill 30 Demons

Demons are easily recognised as they are the large enemies that are black and look like a minotaur. They are sometimes armed with swords and shields and can sometimes even fly. There are plenty of these in the game so you shouldn't have trouble unlocking this achievement.

  • Kill 20 Unbaptized Babies

You first encounter these very early on in the game, they are the baby enemies who instead of having arms, have swords. They are very easy to kill and deal very little damage. If you have not unlocked this by the time you are fighting the boss in 'Lust', you can simply not hit the boss and she will infinitely spawn unbaptized babies out of her breast.

  • Kill 5 Gluttons

You first find these in the 'Glutton' chapter. When you first fight one you are shown a cutscene about all of your fellow crusaders performing gluttonous deeds. These enemies look like a very overweight and ugly woman. They also attack with an excrement attack in which they vomit on the ground. There are only a few of these in the game so if you don't unlock this by the end of the game you can simply play 50 Waves of 'Gates of Hell'. There are loads of them throughout the 50 waves.

  • Kill 5 Heretics

Heretics are first encountered in the 'Heresy' chapter which is just over the midway point of the game. These can be recognised easily because they look like female circus ringleaders and they have a purple orb glowing above their head. You cannot damage these with your Beatrice's Cross attack so you have to melee them enough and the orb will disappear. When the orb disappears, you can now attack them in any way you please. There are loads of these throughout the game so you shouldn't have trouble netting this achievement.

  • Kill 20 enemies using a counter move

You need to acquire the counter move from the unholy tree. Press to block an incoming attack, Dante will block in slow-motion if timed right, finish it by using or . I suggest doing this on minions, even then, they’re not a one-hit kill. Keep doing this throughout the game vs minions and you should be able to unlock it pretty fast.

Another method is deflecting the bats' fireballs which is done in pretty much the same way, but requires the followup skill from the first counter move. , then ).

  • Kill 20 enemies using magic

Self-explanatory. Use magic to kill enemies. Minions preferably, as they die the quickest.

  • Open 20 Health fountains

You will find these scattered throughout the game. You should have no problem finding them. These are the green fountains, make sure to use them, even though you're not in need of health, until you get the achievement.

  • Open 20 Mana fountains

You will find these scattered throughout the game. You should have no problem finding them. These are the purple fountains, make sure to use them, even though you're not in need of mana, until you get the achievement.

  • Reach Holy Level 7

Absolve minions, babies and enemies that require a finishing move by pressing . This will accumulate Holy experience. Charon’s Oar (refer to the collectibles guide for the location) will boost your holy exp by 10% per level (max 30%). You cannot do both in one playthrough. Start resurrection mode (new game +) to continue leveling the second tree.

  • Reach Unholy Level 7

Punish minions, babies and enemies that require a finishing move by pressing . This will accumulate Unholy experience. Tail of Minos (refer to the collectibles guide for the location) will boost your unholy exp by 10% per level (max 30%). You cannot do both in one playthrough. Start resurrection mode(new game +) to continue leveling the second tree.

  • Max out the Holy path

Reach Holy level 7 and buy all the skills in this tree.

    See Man of Evil.

  • Max out the Unholy path

Reach Unholy level 7 and buy all the skills in this tree.

You’ll not be able to do both trees in one playthrough, so focus on one tree per playthrough. Fire up resurrection mode to continue maxing out both paths.

  • Defeat all enemy waves in the Gates of Hell Arena

This is an extra feature that unlocks by completing the game. It is an arena-like game mode against the clock which hosts 50 waves of enemies with increasing difficulty. Time is your biggest enemy here. Shred through the waves as quickly as possible, and you might just be able to complete this. Set the difficulty on classic for an easy achievement, don't take it easy though, time still is your main foe.
Note: You can 'cheat' your way through the waves by having a maxed out holy tree and spamming . Expect to get bored though.

You will receive extra time bonuses for the following goals:

    Complete a wave: 30 seconds
Do not get hit during a wave: 15 seconds
    Absolve/Punish an enemy: 5 seconds

DLC: Dark Forest (Store Link)

There are 2 achievements with a total of 40 points

  • Complete the Dark Forest on any difficulty

Simply complete the Dark Forest DLC on any difficulty. It's that simple. Start DLC. Finish DLC. Earn achievement. It's not rocket science.

  • Complete the Dark Forest without getting lost once

Just follow these steps on the Dark Forest's challenges and you shouldn't go wrong:

    1st challenge :
You must run into 5 entrances. Each time, you must take the entrance that is located directly to the EAST of the ray of light (take the 1st entrance clockwise).

    2nd challenge :
You must run into 5 entrances. The first entrance, you must move the lion to the entrance that is located to the WEST of of the ray of light (ie : the first entrance anticlockwise). Then go to this direction. Then with the second, third, fourth and fifth entrance: you must move the lion to the entrance that is located to the OPPOSITE DIRECTION of the ray of light (when you do that there will be a continuous ray of light)). Then go to this direction.

    3rd challenge :
Block the top entrance with the statue. Then as soon as the ray of light points to the left entrance, go there, then IMMEDIATELY AFTER, take the right entrance and you'll catch the murderer. There'll be some monsters to kill then the achievement will pop up.

DLC: Trials of St. Lucia (Store Link)

There are 10 achievements with a total of 250 points

  • Upload a Single Player Dante Gold Trial

Rather self explanatory. Just create a single-player trial with Dante as the character and a point total above 5000, but less than 7500, then upload it. A quick tip for tweaking the point value of your trial is to just make a single wave of enemies and increase/decrease the enemies' strength and difficulty as needed to achieve the correct amount of points for the gold or platinum medal depending on the achievement you're going for.

  • Upload a 2P Lucia & Dante Platinum Trial

Again, rather self explanatory. This time create a 2 player trial with Dante/Lucia with a point total above 7500 and upload it. See the Creationism achievement for a good point tweaking tip. Make sure your trial is Lucia & Dante, and not Dante/Dante or Lucia/Lucia, a common mistake as some simply make a 2P trial but forget to change the characters.

  • Receive a vote of at least 4-stars on any of your uploaded Trials

Have a friend use the "most recent" filter to find your trial after you upload it. Once they play it they can rate it 4 or 5 stars. As long as they're the first person, once they're done and your rating is 4 stars or higher, the achievement will pop. If it doesn't, simply back out of the DLC and reload it.

  • Rate Any 100 Trials

You're going to want to do this at the same time you aim for the "Well Played" and "Played Me!" achievement. You simply have to play and rate 100 trials. Nothing more, nothing less, so combining this achievement with those aforementioned achievements will allow you to kill two birds with one stone.

  • Add 10 Trials to Your Favorites

Simply add any 10 trials to your favorites by pressing the d-pad. This is by far the easiest achievement in the DLC.

  • Earn 100 Bronze Medals and 75 Silver Medals Playing Community Trials

    See Well Played.

  • Earn 50 Gold and 25 Platinum Medals Playing Community Trials

Using the 'bomb' method most people making short trials are using now, I created bronze, silver, gold and platinum trials that take 6-10 seconds, 6-10 seconds, 12-20 seconds, and 18-30 seconds to finish respectively. They're by my gamertag (lifeexpectancy) and they're named Bronze in 6 to 10 sec, Silver in 6 to 10 sec, Gold in 10 to 20 sec #1-50, and Platinum in 18-30 sec #1-25 i.e. 75 different unique gold/platinum trials all identical for quick work towards your rate 100 achievement.

Simply run up, hit the bomb, and hold block. It explodes killing all enemies and the trial is over lickity split. That way all you have to do is play/rate the 75 I've uploaded and you're 3/4 of the way toward "rate 100". Just replay the same bronze or silver one over and over to get your medals after you've played/rated another 25 community trials. I wish I'd discovered this before I spent 4 hours playing and rating my slower trials! Getting 25 platinum ones done even with the time it takes to go back to the trials list only takes 15-20 minutes now. I estimate 50 gold medals at 20-30 minutes tops. Silver and bronze will be extremely fast because you don't have to exit to the menu to pick another trial.

Use the filters to find the trials made by me (lifeexpectancy) and set 10 at a time as your favorites so that after you finish a trial and it goes back to the list of community trials you can simply press  and switch to the next one you haven't played/rated rather than having to set up the filters all over again. Rinse and repeat until you've rated my 75 trials (or just 60 of them, then replay the gold for your last 15 medals if you intend on doing all 40 EA trials and rating those). Then it's a matter of simply replaying the same trial for the rest of your bronze/silver medals. I estimate you can finish all 3 achievements in 2 hours absolute max now using these faster trials.

  • Beat 25 different single player and 15 different two-player EA trials

"It's in the Trial" is by far the hardest DLC achievement in the pack, mainly because the EA trials can be tough and unforgiving. The fact that there are only currently 25 single-player and 15 2-player trials - at the time of writing - means that you're going to need to master all the tricky ones. Good luck!

If you're stuck, see the general technique guide HERE. A big thanks to all the other contributors in that thread for their more specific move per enemy advice.

  • Earn a Player Score of 100,000

While working towards the "Well Played" achievement, this achievement will come naturally. You just have to earn points, 100,000 of them.

While working towards the "Well Played" achievement, this achievement will come naturally. You just have to earn points, 250,000 of them.
