Introduction
Chime is a puzzle game which combines the polyomino aspect of Tetris with the music, beat line and block grouping of Lumines. Unlike Tetris which uses tetromino or shapes made up of 4 smaller squares, Chime uses pentomino or shapes made up of 5 smaller squares offering a larger assortment of shapes, 18 to be exact, but of the 18 shapes, only 7 to 9 are used in each of the 5 levels. What makes Chime unique from Tetris and Lumines is that you can place blocks anywhere on the grid as opposed to stacking. The objective of Chime is to fill the entire grid in the 5 different levels using square or rectangular quads created with the above mentioned shapes. The minimum quad size is 3x3 and can be expanded as long as the quad's timer is still active. If you’re very familiar with Tetris and Lumines, then Chime should take you very little time to master.
Level 1 - Time Mode
I would recommend starting in 3 minute time mode to get an idea of the pace needed to 100% a grid. You'll need to 100% the first 4 levels in 3 minutes to unlock "Ultimate Champion", so in order grasp the scope of this endeavor, it's best to start here. You'll also unlock some of the easy achievements right away which include "Quick Off the Block" and "The Juggler". If you're really having difficulty completing the 50% needed to unlock free mode and the next level, then switch to 6 minutes, otherwise keep practicing in 3 minutes.
Next, try to span a 3 high quad from one side to the other in order to complete "The Beast" and a fifth of the requirement for "The Snake". Follow this by creating quads of various sizes to unlock "The Musician". It's not recommended to jump to the next level before you 100% a grid in time mode just yet since the grid and block shapes differ from level to level, which may throw you off when returning to the previous level. The key to completing 100% of the grid in 3 minutes is to always keep moving. Never stop to figure out how a particular piece fits. If it doesn't fit right away use it to build another quad. Keeps the quads tight and build as many as possible at one time. Press to check if you have any hidden gaps behind pieces. Don't worry about losing your multiplier. The main focus is filling up the grid. It's actually better to lose your multiplier since it cleans up the grid of any unused pieces that have been on the grid for a while. Don't overlap, just fill a gap with the necessary size quad and move on. You'll get added time for every 10% of coverage (i.e. 10%, 20%, 30%, etc). I recommend not quitting out midway through a game in order to build up your points for the "Big Bucks" achievement. Once you achieved over 100% in level 1 move onto Level 1 - Free Mode.
Level 1 - Free Mode
Here we are going for "Composer", "Fast Mover" and "Juggle Master". For "Composer" fill the grid 100%. Once the achievement unlocks and the level resets, set up 7 almost completed 3x3 quads in a circle where the incomplete corners or sides are pointing towards the center of the circle. Give enough space for each quad to avoid conflicts. When ready, wait for the beat line to reset then quickly complete each of the 7 quads before the beat line resets again to unlock "Fast Mover". From here you can go for "Juggle Master" or start a new clean game. Make sure the beat line does not hit any flashing pieces to keep the multiplier going.
Level 2 through 4 - Time Mode
Apply the advice specified above to 100% levels 2 through 4 in 3 minute time mode. Don't forget to span a quad from one side to the other in each remaining levels for "The Snake" achievement.
Level 5 - Time Mode and the Favorable Glitch
Jump into 3 minute time mode and span a quad from one side to the other to finally unlock "The Snake", then try your best to hit 100% and complete the level. If you could not attain 100%, jump into 9 minute time mode and reach over 100% there. When the level resets wait a few seconds and "Ultimate Champion" will unlock, but only if you have over 100% for Levels 1 through 4 in 3 minute time mode (thanks to the community for figuring out this little glitch HERE).
Clean Up
Quickly jump into the Free Modes (for a few seconds) of all the levels you have not played to unlock the "Explorer" achievement. If you have not unlocked "Big Bucks" by now, play and finish a couple Time Mode games until you hit 50 million points.
Conclusion
You should have all achievements by now so congratulations in 100% this little puzzler.
