The Lubricator Achievement in Borderlands

  • The Lubricator

    10

    Find 25 oil cans

  • How to unlock The Lubricator

Oil Cans are randomly dropped from Clap-Traps that you kill. There's a lot of grinding involved, so here's what Mad Ibrowz suggests:

"Go fight the Minac and when he appears, just hide behind the rocks near the van...

Where the van is, behind it you'll find a save point and a shed. Whilst standing in the shed facing out, turn immediately right and you'll see a silver crate with weapons in it. Next to this there's 2 rocks with a thin passage in between them. Simply just hide here... When the Minac comes near you and starts to shoot at you, however, he'll only be able to reach you with 1 turret. All you have to do is shoot the turret and once it's gone, you can sit where you are forever without being hit - he won't shoot you, his robots won't, you're safe. At this point, leave the game running (use a wireless controller) and when you come back a few hours later, there'll be a ton of parts all over the place because the Minac accidentally runs over most Claptraps. Simply run out, collect what you can or need and then if you don't have everything, just repeat the process once again."

  • Drop randomly from enemy claptraps throughout the DLC. Takes about 1,5 playthroughs to complete.
  • takes FOREVER to complete and they drop once in a blue moon, I hope the patch fixes this
  • firstly is the patch out? and secondly @Zene Kakusha is what your saying that if i got 10 clap trap bobbleheads on playthrough 1 and 5 in playthrough 2 ill get the achievment?
  • yes the patch is now out this achievement is a lot easier now.
  • I. HATE. THESE ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Been at this for like 15 hours of claptrap killing by now... so I can't help but agree with #5.
  • Love Borderlands, hate these achievements, will take so so so long...
  • Note tha this achievement doesnt unlock if you do it co-op my friend got the 3d one he picked up 5 and he got it but not anyone else in the game
  • Yea I got all the achievements for the dlc except the oil can one. its taking forever to even find one. anybody know a good spot that the claptraps usually drop oil cans?
  • I finally got all the collection achievements, sold the game back, and today i get on xbox and it says i am missing these three collection achievements. Now i hav to do it again. FML!!!!!
  • i feel this is worth saying all though it sounds stupid. i have tried this on a few accounts now and i believe that useing a rpg to kill the clap traps around minac seems to net a lot of oil cans. anyone else want to try and confirm that would be great. but ive done it a few times now and i have seen more oil cans come up useing the rpgs
  • and i did mean using not useing
  • if you go back 2 where you fight MINAC he will continuesly spawn clap traps makes ure grining alot easier ive done it once on my 1st playthrough and found quite a bit ofoil cans panties bobblehaeds and pizzas
  • At the MINAC fight where he spawn little clap-traps, you can possition yourself between the spawn point(He's belly) and enough ahead so the laser won't shoot you. There you can usa a explosive sniper or Rocket Launcher to fire continously, and get 2 kills every time, getting up to 20kills per time making it really easy to get the items. In 2 hours moreless i got 7 pizzas, 8 Oil, and 7 Bobbleheads.
  • Does anyone know if it has to be in one playthough?
  • Simple Solution For me I Have a High Powerd Shield (2K ish) so I Go to the MINAC Fight and Let the Little Buggers Suicide Bomb me for 15M infront of the Boss I got a dozen or so in 30 min
  • The Minac fight is the easiest place to get all of the collection achievements
  • SMASHER419, said "Note tha this achievement doesnt unlock if you do it co-op my friend got the 3d one he picked up 5 and he got it but not anyone else in the game" this is not correct, i have been plaing this in co-op as well, and EACH person has to find and collect THEIR OWN stuff. if one person collects an item it will only count towards that persons collection.
  • I get they want us to play the dlc, but grinding for this stuff is rediculous. In the 5 hours i've tried getting these achievements, I've picked up 1-2 pizza's and no bobbleheads.
  • i hate these collection achievements
  • During the MINAC boss fight, use a wired controller or charge kit cable with your wireless one, turn off that 6 hour auto shutdown on your xbox. Hide in the corner where MINAC or the Kamakazi bots can't hurt you, for 12 hours while you're sleeping, at work, or school. Come back and pick up all the loot.
  • i hate this achievement
  • oh what do ya know, another lame "random drop" achievement lol. seriously not worth 10G
  • I did what ShawnSig did with a slight variation. Start the MINAC boss fight in playthrough 1. Take out the turrets and take his health down to next to nothing. Then follow th road to the other end from where you entered the area. If you look to the left the left as you walk along the road you'll see a large fence that looks like a gate. To the left of this is a small caged area just go inside and you can get behind a dumpster. It is impossible to be killed from there. Just do something else for 40mins and come back and pick up the loot. Repeat untill this and the other two achievements unlock. I watched four 40min episodes of a tv show and it was done.
  • Sorry I meant right when I said left. Both times.
  • #25 has the right idea. What you do is camp behind the rocks where they can't get you. Then if you leave your xbox for an hour, you'll have roughly killed 150 claptraps. There is a 1 in 10 chance that you get one of these items.
  • these achievements suck
  • Can some1 help me with these 3 achievements(What a party! / The Lubricator & Bobble-Trap)because i only get motherboards & Wires here and sometimes a pizza or an oil-can but thats it. at me with message borderlands clap trap achievements thnx
  • I hate how there is no way to track these achievements. I have no idea how many of these I have gotten. I know I got at least one, but after collecting all of the 250 claptrap components you would think that I would have finished off all of the collection achievements for the DLC...ridiculous really!!!!
  • Such a horrible set of achievements. Luckily I checked the forums prior to going on this lovely journey. Found the farming MINIAC idea rather helpful. Left my Xbox on overnight, about 8 or 9 hours total. Woke up, and found a treasure trove of goodies, a few of which i actually needed. Got the Achievement a few minutes ago. And for those of you who are wondering, the Achievements reverse-stack, meaning if you were dumb like me and decided to do Playthrough 2 first, as long as you use the same character and Gamertag the items roll over to the other Playthrough. Good luck all you peoples!!
  • These achievements are so retarded!
  • But comment #24 is the best strategy I am currenty trying it now and already got some stuff I need
  • #24 that place next to gate works well, also when you come through the gates look straight ahead, to the left there is a pointy rock that and behind that is an overhanging rock with some boulders next to it... I killed it from there without being attacked at all... Also guys there is no need to go for 2nd playthroughs and harder foes, just pause, save and exit. start again as normal and all the bosses, claptraps etc gets relaoded. No need to make it harder and wait.
  • another way to help get this achievement is to have a class mod(the hunter and siren have class mods that have this perk) which gives +... team rare item find. i have one for my hunter that gives a +2 team rare item find and it helps find these items a little bit easier. also helps if you play with people online. the more people the better loot just like the game always says, and with this mod on it would probably make it that much easier playing with 3 other people than just playing by yourself. hope this helps.
  • the hunters version of this class mod is called the scavenger and the level on mine is a 34, has +3 team scavenge extra items, +3 swipe,+3 ransack,+4 out for blood and +2 team find rare items. if all else fails and you don't know anybody that has this or a class mod like this message my on live and we can set up a session to duplicate this item. gamertag is same as user name.
  • Just finished this to finish the last of these collection ones. I tried a few of these techniques and then figured the easiest method (although it's not the best if you're worried about your cash) Get yourself your most powerful shield. Take out all the turrets. Then, run around positioning yourself a few feet to the side of the tracks (wheels) and keep an eye on them and the front of the MINAC (that should give you a rough distance). Now keep your finger on the analog move stick and watch as the little buggers blow up underneath the front of the vehicle. Only downfall is, you're likely going to eventually get hit by the MINAC when it makes a sharp redirection turn. Still, it kills five or so of them in a fraction of the time and the loot is in a neat pile. Bum rush the MINAC when he st
  • In 1.5 playtroughs (as this guide sais) i've collected; 27 glasses, 10 bobbleheads, 6 pizzas, 6 panties, 4 fish, 2 oil cans. It's gonna take me another while, i might use the inac boss tactic this time :D
  • I just watched two of those 3 hour LOTR movies and i only got 5 oil cans using the MINAC tactic, so thats about 5 oil cans per 6 hours their.
  • TIP: Anyone wants to get this I WILL be glad to help you get this, you must have the MINAC boss ready to be fought, I got this achievement and the other ones in around 4 hours max just message me my gamertag is my username I'll be glad to help anyone that needs help.
  • Only got 5 from 1 playthrough not worth the Gs to me.
  • If you already killed MINAC, can you kill him again or so? Because I killed him, and when I returned all the bosses was gone? :c
  • I just went through the whole DLC and got 1 oil can, any suggestions?
  • #40 just go back to know and the mutant and the ninja, and then MINAC will come next, i just did and his there.. #41 read the other suggestions ^
  • I cant seem to find these even fighting MINAC! also were can you get the rare items MOD
  • I did the camping minac boss thing for about 5hours but got no achievements but a draw collectibles but then I got my shotgun which can kill them in 1 hit and shot into the spawning gateand each time got at least 5-10 each time and got as many as when I did the minac camping thing and got them all but this one
  • In one minute
  • I've spent about 3 hours on MINAC, for about 20 oil cans, five bobbleheads, and a gazillion 3d glasses (I noticed that my coop partner did not get the 5-3d-glasses cheevo when I was picking everything up - this leads me to think only the person picking them up gets the achievement progress). No achievements yet, except the 3d glasses one which I got naturally.
  • Does this and the other collectables have to be done in one playthrough, and how is everyone tracking their progress so you know which you need and how many?
  • You cannot tell how many you have collected unless you keep count once you start. Also, these achievements are only rewarded to the person who picks up the item, and yes it can be done in both playthroughs, the amount is put together between both. The easiest way to get this is to fight the minac, i got it in a hour and a half fighting him with a special class mod for the siren called catalyst. it allows you to make claptrap drop an item everytime.
  • this achievement is some real bs................i have 10 hrs of gameplay and i havent gotten a single 1 of the collection achievements except for gettin the components
  • Just got this and the "What a Party" achievement one right after the other using the MINAC farming method. Took a good 6 hours, but finally got it.
  • i seem to be having the same problem as alot of people, missing the last 3 achievements, the lubricator, bobble-trap and what a party! im assuming the best way to get the items needed is to do minac farming? (harks back to crawmerax farming trying to get pearl weapons) and is there any items i can use to help me? (playing sniper class) any help would be greatly appriciated as i have had borderlands on my completed list 3 times now and want to put it to rest finally and start preparing for borderlands 2.
  • Alright so i haven't got to MINAC yet, but when i do, can i come back to it to try this farming method? And say im the middle of the fight, i do this method for about 2 hours, collect all the loot, save & exit during the fight, all the pizza and stuff will save right?
  • Finally! This took fucking forever! Just the pizzas and bobbleheads to go now then.. FUCK
  • Does anyone know how long it takes to get the achievements? I've invested 11 hours now into trying to find pizza, off-shore oil cans and bobbleheads! Is it easier doing this with friends online?
  • From what I have read and found on some youtube videos. The best solution is MINAC farming, which should STILL take several hours to collect these 3 achievements. What a pain in the ass they are for a perfect score of 1750 GS!!!
  • If anyone needs help with the achievements involving Pizza, Off-shore Oil Cans and Clap-fish. Send me a friend request over xbox live (include message) Jokersapprentic
  • For the MINAC method, do the claptraps automatically die? A lot of people are saying leave your Xbox unattended and the loot will be there. Does the boss kill them?
  • Yeah, he rolls over them. Also, I've noticed if you knock out all of the turret guns and the rocket gun on the MINAC and then follow him around and just shoot where the Clap-Traps are being released by MINAC, then it's easy to just farm that way, but that will also take forever!! (At least you won't die and lose all of your money respawning!)
  • To sum up: yes the items save, you can come back later; yes you can kill minac repeatedly, you just have fight the other three bosses first; yes farming works and it sucks and it takes forever; yes you get more loot when you kill the clap traps as they spawn; yes mods help; no co-op doesn't work for all players just the one who picks them up; yes everyone is gonna have trouble with different items so don't bother whining; no you can't track your progress; yes it sucks; no one strategy doesn't work for everyone; yes you just have to keep going. Have fun y'all!
  • Does anyone know if we have to get this achievement in 1 play? Like if I start my game I can't save and exit until I get the achievement? I tried the MINAC farming and in 6 hours I didn't get a single one of the achievements so I killed MINAC/INAC and shut my console off.
  • @61 yes. Read the post above yours. answers all the other questions asked repeatedly.
  • You ABSOLUTELY DO NOT have to get these achievements during ONE sitting. That would be beyond cruel and a hassle. I got these ach during the course of a couple of weeks farming the hell out of MINAC. So anyone that tells you that you have to get them all in one sitting is not only a liar, but an evil human being. And for the record, Pizza slices are WAY worse than Oil cans, so be prepared to farm like a mofo looking for them. I had a +2 Rare items on Hunter Mod and it still sucked. Good luck!
  • apart from the minac method i'm finding the easiest/quickest way to get these rare drops is to run to the hyperion dump area with all the claps kill em all. quit save and reload. it doesnt take too much time to do all that and you're bound to get at least 1 rare item each reload. got the party achievement in a few hours and am about halfway through the oilcan with not too much time.
  • @#18 he said the same thing you just didnt read it right so dont try and correct people.
  • Doing the MINAC farming is the best way i get alot of items like this even though it does take ages thanks all for helping me do this one :D
  • Been fighting these things for hours now. Hating these achievements. Good idea about farming the MINAC. I'll be sure to give that a try
  • These achievements = World of Borderlandcraft
  • just unlocked this one, giving me 100% for borderlands and all 4 dlcs. to hell with these acheivements.
  • Ok new strategy. Farm the MINAC. But do it with a high level character (lvl 61 and up) on playthrough 1. Fire into the doors in front as soon as they open with a decent gun (i used the glorious serpens-x4 acid 366 damage) and when it moves you'll find a huge pile of stuff. With an hour or two and some luck you'll get the achievements pretty quickly.
  • does anyone know if there is a way to keep track of the amounts of each item...other than writing them down as you go
  • @71 as mentioned 10+ times in here, no.
  • Posted a video for anyone who has already beaten MINAC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KFwcEG7W10
  • doesn't seem to be too bad. i didn't count how many i have but i must be getting close and i've only been playing for a couple days. (7 hours maybe)
  • Actually wasn't that bad. It does take a lot of grinding but generally you will get lucky and get a ton of collectable drops back to back to back like I did. I went about 10 times in the Hyperion Dump, near that little Hyperion fort area, and 2 pizzas the first time in (Pizzas are the second rarest drop of the collectables) and I got the remaining 5 oil cans I needed to get this achievement.
  • is here any claptrap that drops a collectable more than another?
  • i got these from farming the MINAC! it takes a while but it works
  • Tip, when farming the MINAC guy, get in front of him when he opens the front doors and just mow down the Claptraps that come out. It seems that there is a limit to how many are spawned at once, but if you kill one a new one spawns quickly to replace it. I've killed up to 10 in one door opening sequence a few times. Find a gun that has a huge clip with good damage and just mow them down. When it moves off, you should see a huge pile of greens ready to get snagged.
  • Got it by using the MINAC method. Left my xbox on all day and checked it every couple of hours. What horrible achievement. The Oil Cans seem to drop more often than most, and more often than the pizza.
  • Easiest by leting your game sit on mega claptrap for 1 night
  • simply 4-5 hours of farming, at the end of one playthrough. AND 16 hours of MINAC (afk) farming.
  • I don't think there ever going to make this easier noing most ppl are on borderland 2 now and i am planing on just giving up on borderland. this acheviement and the other 2 that are just like it. There making me go crazy if any 1 can help me get then. I will play it but man if all game acheviement were this hard I will lost my mind
  • I have seemed to get a few rare items each time i go through the junkyard. Lots of fish, and a few pizza slices but i have only had one bobblehead and pair of panties. It seems kinda retarded to have this crazy grinding on ALL of the DLC. I loved finishing the game, even with the grind to level 50, and just got the GOTY to tide me over until they fix the badass glitch in BL2. It seems that EVERY piece of DLC has a damn grinding achievement attached to it. And from what i have seen BL2 is going to be the same damn way... Sucks...
  • This is one of the last achievements I need to 100%, it's so frustrating.
  • This is still a pain in the ass, but I've found it to be a bit better playing a Hunter, with a Scavenger Class Mod that ups Ransack quite a bit. Just chain kill the little bastards, and they'll be more likely to drop a second item - the second one usually being a grind item. My last run in the junkyard got me a Pizza, Panties, Fish, Bobble Head, and a set of 3D glasses.
  • anyone want to help farm ClapTrap DLC? GT: BillApocGreen
  • i must've found 50 3d glasses, about 25 pink panties and about 5 bobbleheads, and about 10 clap fish. this is after doing all the tannis collections, and killing knoxx trap. obv got the 3d glasses cheevo
  • Why hide behind the rocks? has anyone ever thought of just sitting in claptraps shed? the one where he wheels in to hide from the bandits at the beginning of the game.
  • ....I love borderlands, I love borderlands, I love borderlands........ ( I hope you all can see my seething rage right now)
  • There's an easier way to get this achievement, alongside its companions: Bobble-Trap, It's So Realistic, & What A Party. • Best Part: NO MINAC farming, meaning this strategy won't have you spending hours upon hours getting to MINAC and then spending even more time fighting for the parts. Here's the link to my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HR1qjh8rVE
  • Well, this was an annoying achievement. Had to farm the MINAC several times (because my xbox tends to freeze during longer gaming sessions).
  • one of the most annoying achievement i ve ever met, have to farming the robots over many hours
  • I was curious, but say I do this in playthrough 1. Will my collected items carry over with me? Also, will it still work if I do it backwards?
  • Man, if I could turn every 10 extra fish and pair of glasses into 1 oil can I could be done with this already, annoying. I don't know if this'll help anyone, but I usually grind starting hyperion dump, in the bottom right area by the tires, then go north to the hyperion camp. After that I go to dividing faults, to the bridge that heads over to the d-fault camp, then head north into that dead end alley, then to an area on the other side of the building south of where Ned spawns, then, finally, inside the factory. Maybe find some shock weapons to increase proficiency as you grind.
