Introduction:

Welcome to Beijing 2008. This game has a total of 50 achievements and requires a minimum of one playthrough (maybe more) to get 1000. The reason for the minimum of one playthrough is that Hardcore Olympian requires you to play without quitting or failing a day. Of the achievements, 3 are unlocked in the Career Mode. 3 are unlocked by winning/playing games on Xbox Live. 37 are unlocked by beating certain scores/distances on different events. 4 more achievements are earned by beating the Heptathlon and Decathlon (and beating the points requirement) and the remaining 3 are achieved by doing certain tasks such as using a custom team and beating a friends personal best (PB)...

Step#1 - Online Achievements

Now I would choose to go for the online achievements, if you have a partner to play with as the online is extremely dead for this game. Basically find your partner and create a RANKED or PLAYER match and have one find the other and then simply take turns winning 5 times in a row (making sure you change host halfway through for the achievement) and you should end up with all 3 online achievements and leaving only 47 achievements to go!.

Step#2 - Random Achievements

The goal here is to get the "Leader Of The Pack", "Changing Faces", "Best With Friends" achievements. All of these are easy enough to get if you just follow the guide. The only one I had trouble with was finding 4 controllers to actually play. Just to confirm Guitars, Drums ect... all work as controllers. Now Only 44 achievements to go!.

Step#3 - Event Achievements

This main objective now is to basically get all 37 Achievements for beating certain events. This could take time as there are a few certain events that require to get everything so precise and perfect that it does cause some people problems as
they could find it hard. Basically the main thing here is PRACTICE. Getting Closer to that 1000 with only 7 achievements left!.

There is a sneaky tip that can help you if your having trouble with the events. See the 'Tips and Tricks' section at the end of the Road Map.

Step#4 - Heptathlon/Decathlon Achievements

So here you just have to play the Heptathlon and Decathlon and earn the 4 achievements available. The events should be somewhat easier now that you've had enough practice on the events so it should be a easy enough task. You can also get these achievements with a friend. Were on the home straight now, 3 achievements left!.

See the 'Tips and Tricks' section at the end of the Road Map.

Step#5 - Olympic Games Mode

Last is the 3 achievements for completing the Olympic Games mode. Olympic game mode is pretty easy now that you've practiced most, if not all of the events. In your first season I suggest going for the Hardcore Olympian and the Career Athlete. If at any point you fail a day, you will have to start again from the start. If you want to take a break you MUST leave your xbox on (on the current day or event you're on). After you've achieved both those achievement, its time for that last achievement. Basically if you've not earned it all ready continue into your second season and it should be pretty easy to complete the days and challenges and you've maxed out your attributes and you've got 1000!

Tips And Tricks:

-If your having trouble with the event achievements, you can use Slo-Mo which is only available in Olympic Game mode. See this thread: https://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?p=968528#post968528

-If your having trouble with the Heptathlon/Decathlon achievements, Simply find a partner with 2 controllers (you need to have 2 also) and set up a player match on Xbox Live and just let each other win all events for the achievements.

Conclusion:

Wrapping this up, I just want to say that this game isn't that bad for achievements, it can just be a pain. 1000 should sit nicely in your gamercard... Enjoy. for a more in-depth guide on how to use it.

There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Score a perfect round in Archery.

A round consists of four Ends; there are three arrows in each End. This means you have to score all twelve arrows, with the maximum possible score, which is 120. You do this by hitting the inner yellow ring, which is worth 10 points.

Unfortunately it is not as simple as aiming straight for the centre of the target, as you have to factor in a fluctuating wind. There is a digital wind meter to the left of the screen. Additionally a wind sock is up in the top left of the screen. It provides you with an indication of how strong, and what direction the wind is blowing. The stronger the wind, the more you have to aim away from the centre ring. You don't have adjust the height of your aim as the wind will not effect it.

The wind strength will not really fluctuate during an End. However it may change slightly, following the completion of an End. If you find wind strength is too high and not to your liking, restart training, you will get a different strength.
  • Swim the 100m Backstroke in under 53.10 seconds.

    See "Butterfly Idol"
  • Win 5 events in a row on Xbox LIVE.

I advise on hosting and choosing your five best events, especially if on the whole they are difficult to master. If you are struggling to win five in a row, you can always boost, to do this find a buddy here and setup a player match. It's best to choose the Field events; the AI doesn't set very high scores to beat.
  • Score 16.80 points or over in the Balance Beam.

To meet the required mark you will need to choose the ‘Hard’ difficulty. It is not possible to get a score, high enough on the other two difficulties. I would advise practicing the routine several times before making a serious attempt. You must get a high percentage of ‘Excellents’ and ‘Perfects’, it is key that you don’t miss any steps. The dismount comes very quickly, it is quite easy to miss the final button command so be ready. A respectable landing may get you those extra points you need.

Should you still have trouble beating the required points, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects of the routine. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Play a 4 player game on one Xbox 360 console.

Unfortunately you are unable to have four players on a single controller. There are quite a few events, in which you take it in turns to go. However the game requires each player to have their own individual controller. If you don’t have four Xbox controllers, peripheral controllers such as the Guitar Hero wireless guitar or Rock Band drums will work. If using any of these peripheral controllers they are only suitable for the achievement, but are not much use in actually playing the game seriously.
  • Swim the 100m Breaststroke in under 59.30 seconds.

    See "Butterfly Idol"
  • Swim the 100m Butterfly in under 50.40 seconds.

I suggest attempting this in training, getting a really good start can be the key to beating the time. Therefore if you false start the race will automatically restart, and then you don’t risk disqualification from a competition. If you get the perfect start your speed bar will be maxed out from the start. This will save you the added energy to get it to this point

I would also recommend using the analog sticks. It takes less energy to keep your swimmer at maximum speed, downside is it takes more coordination. It’s not a problem if you prefer using the combination of + , it just takes a lot more effort to maintain high speed.

If you feel yourself getting tired press pause, (or Xbox button) it will give yourself a break to get your energy back. Make sure you time your kick turn well, if you can get a ‘perfect’ it will keep your swimmers speed at maximum, which will help you if your losing your speed towards the 50 metre mark.

Should you still have trouble beating the time, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to maintain top speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Complete an Olympic Games mode game.

Progress through the Olympic Games mode, which is available to you from the main menu. You will have to meet certain criteria to proceed to the next day. These range from qualifying for an event to winning at least four gold medals out of five events. Should you fail any day it will be game over, however it is not a problem, simply reload and try again. It will take anywhere from 2 hours and upwards depending on how competent you are at the game.
  • Play with a custom team.

From the main menu go to ‘Customise Team’ and choose men’s 100m. Then you will be given the option to choose a team member. Simply press right once, (or choose any character to your liking) accept your new team member. Then back up to the main menu making sure you save the changes. Go to ‘Training’ mode, when selecting your country press to change to custom team. Select the men’s 100m and simply finish the race.
  • Finish a Cycling Team Pursuit race in under 3 minutes 56 seconds.

The key to beating the time is maintaining maximum speed whilst preserving each rider’s stamina. Balancing your rider positions is crucial; if you change too early your riders will not have an enough time to recuperate. Too late your riders will be exhausted. If you find yourself getting tired pause the race every so often and take a break.

Should you still have trouble beating the time, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to maintain top speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • In 10m Air Pistol score 10's for all shots in a round

This is extremely difficult as your crosshair is reasonably unstable. Firstly you have to line up your accuracy. Strive to line up the vertical and horizontal lines as close to the bull’s-eye as you possibly can. It is not a problem if they are not lined up perfectly, it means you have to compensate with your aim. For example if your vertical line is to the left of the bull’s-eye you have to aim to the right. If your horizontal line is above the bull’s-eye you will have to aim below.

The longer you take to line up your crosshair the more unstable it becomes. This is not a problem though, immediately let go of the . Your crosshair will go to the bottom of the screen and it will reset. Try to be as smooth as possible with small inputs, aim for the centre circle whilst factoring in your accuracy. In total you have to score a minimum of 100 with ten shots.

Should you still have trouble scoring a peferct round, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down the accuracy lines. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Win all 10 events in a Decathlon.

The Decathlon can be found under ‘Competition’ from the main menu and is on the last set of events. It consists of varying disciplines from the track and field. I suggest practicing the events first so you become competent at all disciplines. The Decathlon includes:
    100 metres
    long jump
    shot put
    high jump
    400 metres
    110 metre hurdles
    discus
    pole vault
    javelin
    1500 metres
  • Score over 9000 points in the Decathlon.

The points you receive vary for each event, they are dependant on your performance in each of those. The faster your time or the further a distance, the more points you will receive. It’s easier to get a bigger point’s haul on the field events such as high jump and javelin especially if you can get near the Olympic Records.
  • Throw the Discus over 76.90m.

To beat the discus distance you will need good timing as it’s not all about power. You have plenty of time to build of the necessary amount required. It is essential that you do go into the red; otherwise you will throw a foul. Also you will need to correctly judge when to press the right trigger. If you press it too early or too late it will also be thrown as a foul. The ideal timing is for the arrow to be dead centre, with the meter (inside the arrow) filled up to the top of yellow or small amount of green. If you go too far into the green the discus will get too much height and not enough distance.

Should you still have trouble beating the distance, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down the accuracy and height meter. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
  • Swim the 50m Freestyle in under 21.50 seconds.

    See ‘Butterfly idol’
  • Score 17.30 points or over in the Floor Exercises.

You will need to do this on Hard difficulty, otherwise you will not be able to score enough points. You cannot really afford to miss a step, however there is no need for every step to be ‘Perfect’. If you can get a good percentage of ‘Excellent’ and some ‘Perfect’ it’s not a problem to get a few ‘Ok’ and ‘Good’. It’s best to learn the routine and watch out for the quick steps in succession as the speed can build up rapidly.

Should you still have trouble beating the required points, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects of the routine. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
  • Host an Xbox LIVE game.

Simply host a player or ranked competition on Xbox Live. It can consist of any number of events that you wish to play. The achievement will unlock following the completion of the first event.
  • Throw the Hammer over 86.80m.

The hammer requires good rhythm to achieve maximum power. You are required to keep the blue ball, within the middle of the orange segment. The smoother you are, the more you can consistently keep the ball within the middle of the segment. To break the distance required you don’t have to fill meter completely, at least an inch short will probably be enough. Time your throw so the arrow is dead centre, otherwise your throw maybe liable to go foul, or be thrown with too much height or not enough.
  • Complete Olympic Games mode without quitting or failing a day.

You must do this in your first season and in one play through. This means if you would like to take a break, you must leave your Xbox on in the current session. You are able to bypass the challenges, although I suggest doing the first one at least to build up your attributes. Also you do not have to win every event, meeting the target for the day is sufficient.

The hardest day by far is the final one; you must win four out of the five events. These events are the 50m freestyle, parallel bars, long jump, 100 metre and the 25m rapid fire. I suggest practicing every event before attempting this. Being proficient in these particular events, will help as you only have one attempt at each of the disciplines.
  • In Weightlifting lift a total of over 475kg.

The weight is split over two disciplines, ‘Snatch’ and ‘Clean & Jerk’. I suggest trying to lift 220kg in Snatch and 257.5kg in Clean & Jerk. However if you struggle with 220kg it shouldn’t be a problem to take a few kilos off and lift the added weight in Clean & Jerk as it’s a bit easier to lift the bigger weight. The difficult part and can be a bit fiddly is when trying to balance. It’s imperative that your smooth with the analog sticks and try to avoid any heavy movements.

Should you still have trouble beating the required weight, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Win all 7 events in a Heptathlon.

    The Heptathlon can be found under ‘Competition’ from the main menu and is on the last set of events. It consists of varying disciplines from the track and field. I suggest practicing these events first so you become competent at all disciplines. The Heptathlon includes;
    100 m hurdles
    high jump
    shot put
    200 m
    long jump
    javelin throw
    800 m
  • Score over 6900 points in the Heptathlon.

    See "Decathlon Points Premiere"
  • In the Javelin make 3 consecutive throws over 95.00m.

    See ‘Javelin Sureshot’
  • In the High Jump clear 2.40m.

When attempting this there is some margin for error. You don’t need a flawless run as 2.40 metres isn’t particularly very high. The vital part is the take off, a ‘Perfect’ one at that will ensure you clear the height, as long as you hit all of the other commands.
  • Throw the Javelin over 98.50m.

You will need to get your power bar to maximum, throw the javelin as close as you can to the line with an approximate 45 degree angle. There is a small amount of flexibility as far as the angle and how close to the line. Obviously the nearer to these parameters the more chance you have of beating the distance.
  • Finish the Kayak course in under 112 seconds.

This is an extremely difficult event due to the control system. To stand any chance of beating the time, you will have to navigate the course flawlessly. Any penalties will certainly put you out of contention. Plenty of practice will be required as prior knowledge to the course is essential. The gates that you are required to row upstream are tricky as you have to turn sharply then when through the gate row around the outside. Also be careful when rowing through the gates that are not raised above the water level as they are easy to knock into and you will be given a time penalty.
  • Run the Hurdles in under 12.80 seconds.

I would attempt this on the Women’s 100m hurdles. Again like most of the other time based achievements the start is key. I suggest doing this in training mode to ensure you’re not penalised for any false starts. Ultimately good timing with your jumps is crucial; if you hit a hurdle heavily there will probably not be enough time to recover.

Should you still have trouble beating the time, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to help maintain speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Beat a friend's personal best.

This must be done in training mode. Once you select ‘Training’ from the main menu, you are given an opportunity, to select a friend from your friends list. You then must beat one of their personal best times on any event. If you don’t have a friend with the game, then you have a few options available to you. Firstly if you have another Xbox live enabled profile (gold or silver), on your Xbox then add that other profile to your friends list. Set a time on any event, switch back to your main profile and beat the time. Alternately you can boost the achievement, to find a buddy check here.
  • Run the 1500m in under 3 minutes 26 seconds.

    See ‘Middle Distance Professional’
  • In the Long Jump clear 8.96m.

The long jump distance is quite tough to beat as it requires exact criteria. You will need to have the power bar full, have a 'perfect' takeoff with a 45 degree angle to clear. Even if you have a 44 or 46 degree angle or are slightly short of power you will not clear the desired distance.

Should you still have trouble beating the required distance, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects of jump. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Run the 800m in under 1 minute 41 seconds.

It is possible to do this by yourself against the AI however it is extremely difficult. You need the power maxed for the whole duration of the race. This is a bit tricky as your athlete will get tired extremely quickly. I suggest pausing the race whenever you feel yourself getting tired for a rest. Alternately an easier method is to race online or with a friend, take it in turns slipstreaming each other while running at full speed. This method means you will preserve your stamina which in turn will make it easier to sustain your top speed.

Should you still have trouble beating the required time, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to maintain top speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Run the 400m in under 43.10 seconds.

    See ‘sprint powerhouse’
  • Win an event on Xbox LIVE.

Simply win an event on Xbox live. It can be in Ranked or Player match and any number of players. Also it doesn’t matter which event, therefore host or find an event that you are particularly good at. If you are still unable to win it is possible to boost. To do this find a buddy here and setup a player match. I suggest doing a field event such as high jump and javelin as the AI don't set particularly high scores.
  • Score 17.50 points or over in the Parallel Bars.

You must choose the Hard difficulty to get the required number of points. The hardest part of this event, is matching up the arrows with your hands. Once you learn the routine it will become easier to know what position the analog sticks have to be in. The closer you get the arrows to your gymnast’s hands the more points you get. Anything with ‘Good’ or better, with a perfect dismount should get you sufficient points.

On the latter part of the routine, there is a section, where you are required to match up the arrows three times in a row. Once you have found good positioning on the first move, keep the analog sticks in a constant position, the arrows will not move for the other two moves.

Should you still have trouble beating the required points, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects of the routine. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Score over 360 points in the 10m Platform Diving.

Unlike the three meter springboard there is some margin for error. The dives are hard to master, due to you controlling your diver via the left and the right analog stick. Try to keep the balls within the middle of their respective segments, the closer to the middle the more marks you will receive. You will need to choose the five hardest dives:

    Reverse 3.5 somersault tuck 3.4
    Inward 3.5 somersault tuck 3.2
    Backward 1.5 somersault 3.5 twist free 3.2
Armstand Back 3 somersault tuck 3.2
    Forward 3.5 somersault pike 3.0
  • In the Pole Vault clear 6.00m.

The Pole Vault is a difficult discipline, due to you not be given much time to build up speed. To clear 6.00 metres you will have to max out your speed, this will give you the biggest highlighted area possible. Even if you can manage to time your button press within the area you may still knock the bar off. Therefore it may take several attempts even when successfully meeting all the criteria.

Should you still have trouble beating the required height, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to your increase speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • In 25m Rapid Fire Pistol score 10's for all shots in a round

In 25m Rapid Fire Pistol score 10's for all shots in a round
You will get a huge advantage if you can get your breathing ‘Perfect’ or ‘Excellent’, otherwise it will be a bit more difficult. Once you get your breathing sorted only apply horizontal direction to your crosshair. You should find that there will not be much vertical movement. Time your shots to hit as close to the centre as possible. It may take a little bit of practice, however this shooting discipline is by far the easiest, it will not take too long to master.
  • Score 16.80 points or over in the Rings.

As with all the gymnastic events the Rings must be performed on Hard difficulty. What makes the Rings particularly tricky, is when trying to manoeuvre the analog sticks into position. It will take a bit of practice, it is difficult trying to balance both arrows in the correct place. You will need to achieve mainly ‘Excellent’ and ‘Perfect’ with a flawless dismount to break the required points needed.

Should you still have trouble beating the required points, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects of the routine. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
  • Score a perfect round in Skeet.

Skeet isn’t particularly difficult, however there are eight stations with a total of 25 clays. What makes the achievement difficult is the sheer quantity of clays.

Take the time to practice, learning the trajectory of each clay. Follow the clays slightly a head of their path, so your momentum is with the clay. Let the clay catch up with your crosshair. It is really difficult to shoot the clay, when waiting for it to come to your target. The tricky bit is shooting a pair. Shoot the first clay as early as possible. When you come to the second it will be slowing down, in addition your crosshair will not have to move too far to get into position.
  • Run the 200m in under 19.20 seconds.

    See ‘Sprint Powerhouse’
  • Throw the Shot over 23.20m.

Unfortunately you are not given much time to build up your power bar. Subsequently this makes it fairly tough to build up adequate speed. You are able to start your power build up before the game says ‘Go’, be prepared to commence rotation of the stick immediately. You don’t have to be exact with the angle, however if you can get as close as you can to 45 degrees, it should be enough.

Should you still have trouble beating the required distance, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to your increase speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview
  • Score over 400 points in the 3m Springboard Diving.

You must choose all the hardest dives available in the ‘Statement of Dives’. You are unable to make any errors, and must keep the green ball within the middle of the green segment at all times. It’s best to learn the dives, be smooth as possible as any sudden movements will cost you valuable points. Watch out for the transition into a pike as the ball will go from moving slowly to very fast in short space of time.

The following are the dives which you are required to do:
    Inward 3.5 somersault Tuck 3.4
    Forward 2.5 somersault 2 twist free 3.2
    Forward 3.5 somersault pike 3.1
    Backward 2.5 somersault tuck 3.0
    Reverse 2.5 somersault pike 3.0
  • Run the 100m in under 9.80 seconds.

I suggest attempting this in training, getting a really good start can be the key to beating the time. Therefore if you false start the race will automatically restart, you don’t risk disqualification from a competition. If you get the perfect start your speed bar will be maxed out from the start. To beat the time you have to have maximum speed for the whole distance. Pressing slightly before you cross the finish line, it may give you that extra 100th of second you need.

Building up enough speed can be quite tricky and if you are struggling with using the combination of + , I suggest waggling the analog stick with the palm of your hand. Dependant on what hand you use it you may find it uncomfortable. Therefore try rotating the controller 90 degrees, it just means you have to waggle the analog stick up and down instead of right to left.

Should you still have trouble beating the required time, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to maintain top speed. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
  • Make 6 consecutively improved jumps in the Long Jump.

You unable to fail a jump, therefore be somewhat careful in not overrunning the takeoff mark. I would suggest not building up any speed for your first two jumps. For the first jump take off early and have an extremely low or high angle to reduce your distance. For your second jump I would take off closer to the board with an approximate 45 degree angle. Then on each run after I would slowly build up speed to get the required distance to beat your previous jumps.
  • Win a game in Table Tennis without losing a point.

Although a match is best of three, you only need to win one game, which is the first to eleven points. The easiest way to score a point is to make your opponent go to one side of the table, then hit the ball the opposite side. Also if you serve perfectly you will automatically get a point as your opponent will not be able to return it.

It is possible to do this with a friend online, therefore if you are looking to boost check here.
  • Max-out all attributes in Olympic Games Mode.

As you progress through Olympic Games mode, you will be rewarded points by for performing well. The higher your position the more points you will receive. You are then given the opportunity to spend your reward on increasing your attributes. The more events you win the quicker you will be able to complete this. It may take into a second season depending on how many events you win. Each season will take approximately 2-4 hours.
  • In the Triple Jump clear 18.30m.

Like the Long Jump to pass the required distance, you must meet exact criteria. You must have full speed, ‘Perfect’ hop, step and jump at precisely 45 degrees. Anything short of these requirements will result in the distance not being met.

Should you still have trouble beating the required distance, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
  • Score 17.50 points or over in the Uneven Bars.

You will need to do this on Hard difficulty, otherwise you will not be able to score enough points. There is a little bit of room for error on this discipline. The dismount is important and a ‘Good’ landing will probably be sufficient if you don’t miss any commands and get a ‘Perfects’ a long the way. Be careful when doing a sustained command, if you release it too late it will count as miss. Subsequently it’s better to release it early for fewer marks than none at all.

Should you still have trouble beating the required points, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to slow down certain aspects of the routine. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
  • Win gold at Judo without receiving any points or credits against you.

This must be done in a competition, either through online play, Olympic mode or Competition. You will have to fight three opponents in total, to win the gold medal. The easiest way to floor your opponent is once you get a ‘Chance’ double tap . This puts your opponent in a choke hold, after that you must alternately tap and . Although you don’t actually have to make your opponent submit, keeping him in the choke hold for 10 seconds, will be enough to win the bout.

Should you still have trouble beating your opponents, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to increase the power of your submission. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview

Alternately you can do this online with a friend. Choose a Vs match and you will automatically be put into the final. Therefore if you are looking to boost check here.
  • Score 17.50 points or over in the Vault.

You must do this on ‘Expert’ difficulty or you will not be able to get enough points, even with a flawless vault. The more speed you have the more time you have to perform your landing, therefore max speed is essential. Also all three button presses are required to be ‘Perfect’. Once you are in the landing stage you need to get the bar into the green by rotating the left analog stick. Anything less will result in a mark that will not be high enough. If you are able to completely fill the landing meter, all your button inputs don’t have to be ‘Perfect’. Although it is extremely tough to manage this, as you are not given much time.

Should you still have trouble beating the required points, try using slow-mo in Olympic mode to maximise your speed, and slow down the landing stage. Click Here for 'Slow-Mo' overview.
