Hear everything Alfred has to say

  • How to unlock Thanks, old friend

When you are required to return to the Batcave, make sure to speak with Alfred before venturing back to Gotham City. You can usually find him near the Training terminal, Batwing, or central computer hub. Click to speak with him and a mini animation will begin as the two characters exchange dialogue. You will earn some XP for having gained some "wisdom" from Alfred each time he says something worth of note.

This "wisdom" is essential in obtaining the achievement. He will usually have a new "wisdom" conversation once you complete a Most Wanted entry, capture one of the eight assassins, or have completed a major mission in the main storyline.

If you have not unlocked this achievement by the end of the game, simply follow these steps and it should unlock after some time:

    1. Travel to the Batcave
    2. Talk with Alfred until he shares some wisdom
    3. Continue talking to him until he begins to repeat some lines of dialogue
    4. Go to the Training terminal and activate it; now exit after loading it up
    5. Speak with Alfred again and you should have a new "Wisdom" conversation
    6. Whether you get Wisdom or not, exhaust all dialogue until he repeats
    7. Repeat Steps 3-5 until the achievement unlocks

While many people have reported this achievement to be a little inconsistent, I have found that some of the key "Wisdom" conversations were about the following topics:

    • Killer Croc's mutation (after analyzing the data chip in the beginning of the game)
    • Electricutioner's arrogance (when returning to the Batcave for the Concussion Detonator)
    • Bane's obsession with Batman (after coming back to the Batcave post-game)
    • A King Bat in the Philippines (random conversation)
    • Firefly's attack on the innocents (after coming back to the Batcave post-game)
    • Nigma's "real" name (after completing Nigma's Most Wanted entry)
    • Joker's whereabouts post-game (after defeating the Joker)

There may or may not be a few more key conversations that count towards this achievement, so just follow the steps above and you will eventually unlock the achievement.

  • I hope this isn't like listing to Otis in the first Dead Rising.
  • No.I believe that it will be something similar to Assasins Creed where you had to talk to Lucy to get the achievement.
  • I wonder how missable it will be. @2 I had to replay AC to get to get freakin Lucy achievement. Anyways, I hope Alfred is the voice in our ear instead of Oracle.
  • These are usually missable. I had to play Tomb Raider over to get that 5G achievement. Great game, but still..
  • Probably its something like Story Teller Achievement in Arkham City.
  • I think #2 is probably right. Which is fucking stupid to me. Missable achievements for no reason piss me off. You can't just enjoy the damn game because you are checking off your list of quotes. So annoying.
  • @#6 and what would be the harm in playing the game again to get this achievement? I can guarantee ill play it at least three times and having something to do in the ladder playthroughs will make them more fun. I beat Arkham asylum seven times and Arkham city three so I personally love the idea of replayability. maybe you don't (which is perfectly fine) and are one of those people who just tries to get 100% in four days and then never look at the game again which would also be fine. I'm not here to judge. @#5 I really hope it is. I loved that whole idea. I was kinda hoping it would be the basis of this game but considering it's a prequel about black mask...um no. but it's an imperfect world.
  • it could also be like "The Guide" achievement in Dante's Inferno
  • Guys, this one isn't missable, you just need to go back to the Batcave every once in a while to hear him say something new. I got it after hearing 5 story-related conversations after i finished the story
  • If you finish the story, you can still go back to the cave and talk to Alfred. Go up and talk to him and after he starts repeating, go over to the training console and then back out of it (you don't have to do anything other than get to the menu). After backing out, return to Alfred and listen to him again. Take note that this achievement can take a long time (up to an hour) just because Alfred repeats so much.
  • that dam bat lol
  • @#10 You're right, it takes forever. Alfred's gone senile and he just keeps repeating himself. I've invested over an hour, and still no achievement. I've also noticed that some messages are related to your completion, so you won't be able to hear all he has to say until you complete the Main Story and some Most Wanted entries, including Enigma's. I'd say go for 100% before going for this, just to be safe. One video, all achievements: http://youtu.be/pGLRMBwK16E
  • FYI I got this right after finding the last extortion data thing and talking to him so you for sure need all those for this achievement
  • I swore I thought I'd heard the end of it after "the joker is behind bars again", but no. No chievo, just more chit-chat about bats and christmas ham. I swear to God, if I hear "Need Anything Alfred?" "Only for you to stay safe" one more time, I'm gonna push him right off that ledge.
  • Can confirm that you DO NOT have to complete the enigma data packs to unlock this achievement. Alfred will eventually stop repeating himself and the achievement will unlock. One of those frustrating ones which could take 5 minutes or 5 days (of re-visiting the batcave) I'm afraid! good luck
  • Are there any lines by Alfred about completing combat challenges, scanning all the Anarky tags, or collecting all of the Cyrus Pinkney pages? Because thats everything I have left to do in the regular story, everything else I have 100%. Just dont want to waste my time trying to get him to talk about something I havent done yet
  • Nevermind, just got it without any of the above mentioned. You do not need to do the combat challenges, scan the Anarky tags or collect the Cyrus Pinkney pages to trigger all of Alfreds speeches. Last one I got was about a large angry bat in the batcave (weird, bats in a batcave)
  • So, is this missable, or no?
  • Could someone say if this is to do with the Alfred Wisdom or not?
  • Achieving this can be very simple. I do agree that you need to finish the main storyline to help get this unlocked. I unlocked this after I was done with the main, Plus, and I am the night story modes, but you don't have to complete all 3 to unlock. When in the Batcave, going in to the training console, then exiting out, is like leaving the Batcave. When you talk to Alfred, talk to him in till he starts to repeat the same lines, and then head to the console, open it to the Character/Skin selection, then exit out. Head to Alfred (He sometimes moves from time to time) and he will tell you a new Line. Do this over and over in till he says the "Joker is behind bars" Line. Then you should unlock it.
  • holy crap this was long and tiring. just got it and I think that there are about nine things he has to say. there's seven in the guide on this site And I got two that weren't in it too. one was about a bat stealing Alfred's ham and the other, the last on I got before the achievement unlocked, was about black gate escapees. but I don't remember anything about killer croc or electrocutioner. I must've gotten those a long time ago.
  • Got it straight after collecting all the plaques.
  • Do you have to get all of the enigma collectables to unlock this?
  • This achievements pretty simple just go back and talk to him after every major event. You get more convos with Alfred even after this achievement pops, we'll I did I know this due to getting Xp for it :)
  • Yeah I can confirm the same process: 1-After completing the whole game just enter the training console till you see the first screen which should be the Batman skins choice and then exit. Go find Alfred either behind you on the same level near the cliff edge, or up near the Batwing or finally near the Bat-computer...
  • 2-Talk to him until you either get a cut-scene two-way conversation regarding a particular subject OR you find him repeating the same couple of standard lines then run back to the training console and repeat the process...
  • 3-Finally you will get it. I didn't get mine on the 'Joker behind bars' conversation-mine came after he gave a SECOND UPDATE about the 'King-sized bat' that had been seen in the cave (Man-Bat perhaps lol?!)
  • 4-Final point, on one occasion I wasn't paying attention if he'd repeated the same lines & must have pressed 'Talk to Alfred' loads as suddenly a new two-way conversation cut-scene popped up which I got new 'Alfred Wisdom' XP for. So there MAY be a chance that simply standing there all in one go might EVENTUALLY pop all conversations for the achievement?
