I'm surprised that Ubisoft actually went and did it, but I'm not surprised with the fact that Haythem is a Templar. That probably makes no sense, but oh well; it makes sense to me. In one of the previous games (I think it was Brotherhood?) someone (Juno, I'm pretty sure; her or Minerva) said that Desmond was chosen because he had both blood lines. Both Templar and Assassin blood. He already has one Templar ancestor (anybody remember Maria? Yeah; former Templar), so the revelation of him having another Templar ancestor isn't all that odd.
