I wonder if this is for the pack-in download of the original game. I didnt play it, so Im glad I get to, but it seems weird that the achievement unlocks under this game (unless the original game is treated as an in-game feature rather than its own arcade downloadable title - I cant see it working any other way, unless this is just a bad description)

Yeah It does seem like a weird thing to do. Yet the Achievements for the original Alice only add up to 100 so maybe its 900 for Madness returns and 100 for the Original Alice, but all under one banner.

Doesn't matter to me, I get a chance to play the first one and catch up on the story, and earn achievements doing it, woo-hoo!

I'm confused... Isn't the first Alice supposed to also be a stand alone xbla release later this year? Meaning it would have it's own 200 achievement points? I hope this isn't accurate or we are misreading it.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that there is no info/trailers anything on Xbox Live and this comes out Tuesday?

you get a code in your game case when you buy the game. its not a standalone game but but rather more as dlc. also the graphics are improved and all that.

I just got through beating this. It was a great trip down memory lane. It is a little buggy, but manageable. My suggestion is to save FREQUENTLY! Cause you'll die a lot from something as simple as missing a jump. It's a tad annoying. But the game was fantastic. Gonna start on Madness tomorrow. Good gaming everyone!

I second the saving frequently. This is an older game and only autosaves when you enter a new level. I think the reason this is tied to Madness returns is because it's a niec bonus and it's to get people caught up on the story of the original.

As for it being released as a stand alone, it will not have achievements. You will still need the Madness Returns disk to access the game. They are doing that for people who gamefly or buy used.

So if I shell out the $10 for American McGee's Alice and I don't have the retail game I can't play it? If that is true then it's really an awful move on EA's part. But that's what you get dealing with EA.

@9 Yup, think of this as DLC

@10 : But then they broke the 1000 GS per retail game rule, since A:MR only has 900 GS. Kinda odd :/

@11 its a feature of the game that you have to have an online pass for not regular DLC.

By your logic Bulletstorm broke the rules becuase it has MP achievements that require the pass.

Either way there's no rule that says a retail game has to have the full 1k, there have been others that have had less like Condemned and one of the LOTR games.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 @ 06:55:01 AM

@12 : OK, haven't played Bulletstorm yet. I'd really like to see MS stopping these kinds of "pay extra for your GS" methods. :/

I know I know.. :D

@Game : It was really nice, to play it again (still have my PC version :) ), BUT they should have at least taken the new control mechanics from A:MR for jumping and walking. XD

For anyone out there who is having trouble with the final boss this is what you do.

The monster queen will duck into the abyss. With the Jabbawock eye staff hold down Y. This unleashes a massive air-raid that will kill all the tentacles. Then fall down to the ledge on your right and collect the blunderbuss. Shoot her in the head. The blunderbuss uses the whole blue bar so you have to collect more hearts and two more shots should finish her off.

Still fable 2 broke the rule to cos u needed to buy pub games to complete 1 achievement from it so I think these people couldnt care less.

American McGee's Alice was terrible. At the very least, they should have added some slight adhesion factor to the game engine, considering you spend so much time platforming.

The concept of AM:A is great, but the developers are lazy for shoving their 11 year old game into a $60 retail sequel with only a graphical upgrade. This is 2011, try utilizing the abilities of modern consoles.

Also, to clear up the speculation above, AM:A is a Game Add On to Madness Returns when you look it up in the XBL Game Marketplace. It sells for 800MSP.

Sunday, June 26, 2011 @ 03:19:49 PM

Yes. Right now I'm stuck in the crazed clock work trying to get to hatter. I have no clue what I'm doing and other than this game needing a major graphics and play update like auto saving in more than one place and better jumping abilities I like it. I never got to play the pc version so it's nice to know the backstory on madness returns.

Monday, June 27, 2011 @ 05:55:03 PM

@16: This wasn't really put in the game to be "new and improved" or anything of the sort. It's like a bonus for all the AM:A fans from WAY back when it initially came out as an awesome add on. By today's standards, yes, the game is definitely dated. Then again, I wouldn't be excited to play a updated version with new sequences, moves etc. because it destroys the nostalgia.

Either way, I don't think they are lazy for "shoving" their original game into this. I applaud them for doing what a ton of gamers wanted, which was for AM:A to be released in one form or another on Xbox.

@King I'm sure you've beat it on nightmare by now and so you realize you get the achievement for beating EVERY level upon completion of Nightmare. That allotta bloops! This is a loop hole that my bf discovered sometime ago and it is applicable to practically every game with the same line of completion achievements. I think its kinda cheap, but theres your silver lining!

Saturday, July 16, 2011 @ 09:56:09 PM

@24: an old shotgun.

@23: so you get the achivments for the original alice if you beat this one on nightmare? Thats a little shaddy: fool people into thinking you need to buy it new or an addon to by pass MS's rule of 1000gs w/out extra purchases. Also, to the person who mentioned fable 2: they fixed that (I think through DLC and/or the game thing on their site) because it was an accident. They didn't do it on perpouse and MS didn't let them get away with it.

this sucks, i bought the game used and didn't get the code, i am definitely not buying the code seperately, so i guess it's yet another game that ruined my 100% because of add-ons that i don't want to buy, like L.A. Noire.

The DLC is rather annoying. But like everyone has said, save frequentely.
Especially before a big jump where you might miss the rope, shroom, etc.

I have all Fable 2 achievements, and I don't have pub games, or know a single person who does have it. So...

Wow, having a dlc as part of the main game and having it be something I have alreadyy played before, well done EA,last time I checked, this game is not that good so if you think i'm gonna shell out 800 microsoft points just to play the glitchy, laggy, incoherence of the first Alice then you are sorely mistaken, take your shit somewhere else cause I already suffered through that game once, NEVER AGAIN, just stop making games already.

You know, all of you can complain, bitch moan and gripe about this, but I for one absolutely loved AM:A for the sheer fact that it was challenging. If you can't get the controls down for the 360, then try something else and stop saying that they need to "stop making these kinds of horrible games." I agree with comment #19, and I love the nostalgia this game brings with it, as well as the satisfaction of finally killing the Jabberwocky and the Red Queen.

Just started playing AM:A last night and quite frankly it was amazing. Played it several times on the PC years ago (and still have it kicking about somewhere). The to be honest the controls on the 360 are FAR better than they were on the PC, so stop complaining !

I don't see what all the whining is about. Back in October of 2000, this was praised for its graphics and gameplay. This is what passed for a good game back then, and it's meant to tell the backstory of A:MR. Personally I like this idea, they figured this much later, the fanbase of this game was going to be insanely higher than that of the older game, and they wanted fans to experience both.

It does feel very outdated now, and was obviously built for PC, but I'm not finding it too bad. A game isn't good if it isn't challenging. I'm just going through it on Normal. Some of the jumping is dodgy though....

Ya it's an old game and some time she wont jump when told to or your standing by something she is ment to grab and wont. and the resone they do this, the DLC; is so you wont buy USED, and if you do and want to play the rest of the game you still pay them money

I think the game is a nice add-on when buying Madness Returns. It allows you to catch up with the story and gives you a chance to play the original without searching for a copy in a store which may or may not be compatible with your PC. I would've liked it more if it wasn't for the bloody Boojums...who thought they would be a good idea?

I honestly enjoyed it. I think most people are too used to today's standards to like any older games, which is a shame. :/
