I can confirm this worked for me Today, 02/11/2013.

I would change the time zone to GMT -12 Tokelau and GMT +14 Kiribati. Each time I would toggle the times, I would load the game and wait until I was at the main menu of the game. I then would hit the guide button and go over to System Settings and toggle time zones again.

I started this at 10:30PM EST. Didn't take too long.

So what day did you start this on? I've just got the game and plan on getting these awkward achievements out the way first.

Tried it today. Monday 18th February at 10.45 am. Within 10 minutes I already unlocked the Focused 25g achievement. Hope this helps anyone else going for it this year.
