Best overall/best human build for Unstoppable?
I'm looking for input on what would be the best, overall, build for racking in the Unstoppable achievements. From scanning the posts around here, I get the feeling that a Defender(centerpath)/Cybernetic(leftpath) is to be preferred, for a combination of unquenchable defence and decent ranged attack - but there may be better builds out there, so I thought I'd ask.
Here's another question, though - what build would be best with Human? I've already completed the game as a Cybernetic Berserker (and done some GOOD work on the 'Valkyries Folly' achievement, I can tell you), and if at all possible, I'd like to combine my 'Unstoppable' run with the Human run. Maybe a Human Bioengineer? Or a Human Champion? |

Huh... I would've thought the Cybernetic path was vital for that, what with the further armor-boost from the bottom of that tree. Or can a middle-path defender easily 'max out' the Armor-boost when equipped with good armor, thus making Cybernetics literal overkill in that department?
...then again, remember Rule 37: There is no 'Overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'time to reload'.

On my first playthroughs of HoH and Helheim I got it with my human Bioengineer (center path).
I used total armor, health, & spider duration/spider cooldown runes to make me strong enough to survive & then use the rifle most of the time. It's a very defensive/support type play style and works AMAZINGLY in Co-op, but it is very doable in SP. I only died once in the World of Serpent mission, 0 in HoH & Helheim (as mentioned), and a handful in Ice Forest. That was SP. In Co-op it is much easier; I got my other two in co-op with a beserker classed friend. Just stay back and play smart. You can sit and regen after clearing rooms without health pick-ups and you can heal using a battlecry and the spider makes you pretty much invincible while it is equipped to run up to missle goblins and take out annoying trolls that seem immune to ballistics. It's a hard character to play as at first, but once you get better equipment and stuff you're basically a god.

Incidentally, did you know that 'Baldur' (Alternate spelling 'Balder') actually translates into 'buttcheeks'? Since Baldur was known as the most handsome of the Norse Gods, I suppose it's reasonable to assume he also had a divine ass. This game sure is a lot more fun when you know some Norse Mythology!

I did the Ice Forest today without dying with my Bio Engineer on solo campaign. He's cybernetic though. I was only down to 1/3 health a few times and didn't feel I was ever in danger of dying. It was his first time through so he started at level 9 and finished 18. I used a hammer and rifle through most of it softening up large groups with hammer throws and grenades. The key of course is regenerating to full health between fights. It's time consuming waiting to regen, but better than doing 5 or more attempts. Got the sentient weapon skill as I went through the level and maxxed it to 10. I saved the sentient weapon for Hod. I played a champion up to level 50 so I knew how to play already. Hope this helps.

I honestly think Bioengineers are your best bet for the unstoppable achievements.

Bioengineer is my recommendation. I've only been through the first act with 3 classes, bioengineer is the only one which did not die (and got the unstoppable achievement with). I was close death only once and only the fact you can regenerate (albeit slowly) saved me.

I'm also using a BE at the moment. I got Ice Forest tonight with a Champion friend. I'm level 22, he's 20 (as of completion). I got HoH with my Defender first run, and died during the second section of the Hel battle (when she starts summoning lots of zombies). My Defender is level 50, and I'm on quite often if anyone is interested in teaming. I've yet to find a single piece of my armor set for the Defender.
I am rather enjoying the BE, though. I can see why people recommend it. I'd think if I had a DEF to play with, I could get Hel and Serpent with a quickness. |

I got Hel with my Human Berserker on a solo co-op run today. Used fierce attacks for the hordes of enemies, the spider on the left of the skill tree for insurance, and ruiners when I want to kill something real fast (I.E. Necromaners, Missle Goblins).
Hard part was Garm since the range on my ballistics wasn't that great. Compensated that with a laser rifle though. Found that it's good to roll back (as opposed to left or right) for the first two missle barrages, and jump over the slow ones. This lets you roll away for when he pounces. If he does hit you, and there's still a decent chance of that, it's always a btch going for those breakable things for health since you may need to take the camera off Garm making you unaware if there are incoming missles, or where they're coming from. So make sure that Garm is way out of range before you go for health. Hel for a Berserker shouldn't be a problem. Hardly ever saw her summon her zombies. Just keep at her, if you haven't used spirit of Fenrir up to this point, use it on her in the third area to make the end that much quicker. But all in all, Hel is not the recommended place for a lone Berserker to be gung-ho and charge into enemies for that big combo. The fierce attacks keep you at a safe distance, while still dealing beautiful amounts of damage. If enemies do get that close, either melee them or if they're a polarity (or look like one), roll away and hit them with a fierce. I think this may also work for campaign versions of IF and WS, but the co-op versions are still going to be tricky if you're alone. Last edited by DHsBnDtNvrWs; 09-06-2008 at 06:31 AM. |

Tutorial for Defender/Cyber
I went Defender - right path, Cyber - right path. I'm lvl 50. Most of my armor is orange, 4 open slots. I horde runes. I visit armor shop, buy runes, quit game, go back to armor shop.
Maxed out damage reduction, both armor ups, spider, combo builder and hammer. As for Runes, I maxed out Attack Speed up, Spider Cooldown, Spider Duration, and Total Armor. I stocked up on Health Runes(more handy than you think) at 31% (max 50%). Got 10% Slash Resist, 10% Piercing Resist, 7% Blunt Resist, 4% Ballistics Resist. The way I run this build: is slide a few times til I know the next slide will be my last, on that hit I do a 2nd hit followed by a tap-tap in the direction of my attack to do a knockup. After that, I either slide to the next mob or air slide to a mob in the air and do my finisher. Doing my finisher builds up my combo meter 1 full bar every time. I usually fall back to the ground and use my ruiner right then and there. Unless you have a teammate, your battle cry (Taunt) is useless. Using your Hammer: I almost never use my gun. Even with exploding mobs, I do a tap-tap slide so when I slide, I'll knock them up. After the knock up, I roll away/slide to another mob...the exploding mobs fall to the ground and explode away from me. (If they don't explode, just keep your eye on them. When they get up, knock them up again.) Use your spider at every chance you get. Don't forget it's there. Don't squander it. If you have Spider Cooldown and Spider Duration like I told you, your spider will stay for 1 big group fight, cooldown for the next big fight, and ready for the 3rd w/o you even knowing it. I don't know if people know this knock up technique or not. Also, I don't know if people know, but mobs that get knocked into the air and aren't shot, recieve a lot of damage from falling back to the ground. Grunt mobs take 90-100% while tougher mobs like Dark Elves take 25-33%. Hopefully this helps someone. I've soloed each stage with this since retards online always get me killed.

When I was working on the Jack of All Trades Achievement I beat HoH with a Berserker and Defender without dying. My BE died once and my Commando twice. I'm gonna work on the rest with my Defender most likely.

I think defender or bioengineer is the way to go for Ice Forest. So many polarity mobs that status immunity is a godsend. For the rest it should be easy enough if you get used to the class, particularly in co-op.
