Ya me to. I'm going to rent it on GF instead of buying though No money. But the titles are confusing.

Metal Gear Solid 3
(Metal Gear nes)
(Metal Gear 2 nes)
Metal Gear Solid 1
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 4

To fully understand the story you'll have to play it in this order (you don't have to play the nes games). But you can also check out the story of all the games on wikipedia

Play them in order of release. That's what I did and that's how it should be played. It would make no sense to play a game released after number one first when that wasn't their intention. Believe me, play according to release date. Think about it like this: Have you ever watched a show where you always wondered about the characters and how it all came to be yet later in the season they released episodes telling you so? Would you watch those episodes first then watch the earlier episodes? No, you wouldn't. So, why would you play #3 first? It makes no sense. In my opinion, it will actually ruin your experience. So, play MGS1 for the playstation first. You will not be confused about the story line or anything. MGS is basically a theatrical experience. That's why so many people love it (the story). It's intense. You're left with so many questions.

Portable Ops comes after Snake Eater and before Metal Gear.

I'm sure you could have just looked up the release dates but Bax did it for you anyways. Play it exactly like that. It would honestly make zero sense to play a game released later first.

No problemo. You're going to have to rush through them if you want to complete them all before June 12th! Just reading the storylines on the internet would surely make more sense.

No, it wouldn't. The games are way too good to just read about and they aren't really all that long. He has almost an entire month to finish them up. That's plenty of time.

Play them in order of release, but to help get your head around things I'll post the games part of the official canon storyline in chronological order:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater/Subsistence (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP)
Metal Gear (NES/MSX)
Metal Gear 2 (NES/MSX)
Metal Gear Solid (PS) / The Twin Snakes (Remake for the Gamecube)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty/Substance (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Ghost Babel, Snake's Revenge, Ac!d 1 & 2 are non-canon.

Also, avoiding watching the ending posted if you know nothing about MGS1, it's just not going to make any sense whatsoever.

I wouldn't worry so much about completing the Solid trilogy before June 12, for your first playthrough it should take about 6-8 hours to complete MGS1/TTS, 13-15 hours for MGS2 and 18-21 hours for MGS3.
