Easily complete Aperture Science achievement

I didn't use any cheats to get all golds but I will admit to using some glitches. I used the portal bump glitch to get out of the first room in chamber 16 early, and also to go straight to the incinerator room in chamber 17 without having to raise any of the platforms. They saved me a lot of trouble.

The gist of the video is him using a cheat code to finish the level with limited portals. You can find the code somewhere just look up Portal codes on google or something

Here's the thing. I like Portal, and I dislike frustration. I dislike frustration more than I like Portal, but I don't want to associate dislike with Portal.

So when it comes time for me to try for the Gold and there's an easy way to do it, you bet your butt I'll input those cheat codes. Because I can. If they really work.

The codes work great for least portals and the advanced maps, but I just can't seem do well at least steps. Every time I go through a portal, it's two more steps! What am I doing wrong? They help some with least time, though. Mixed results there (chamber 13 seems impossible to me...can't get better than 39 seconds).
Someone up there asked what deactivate the colored buttons (or something like that) meant. It means you should go to controller options and remove A=jump, B=crouch, and X=use. Just play with Lb, Rb, and Ls so that you aren't jumping and crouching as you input the codes. This increases your cube creating accuracy by quite a bit, though using the shoulder buttons to play can take some getting used to.

The only tricky ones is the least steps on the first chamber (use youtube and save often), chamber 16 least time, and least time on chamber 15.

Yeah, I'm curious as well, seeing as I have some down time, I figured I would give those last three achievements a go. Do the cheats work? And can somebody please explain the inner workings of how to do this efficiently? Thanks.

yes, only solution is clearing xbox 360 cache to remove the update

I can confirm that this still works just like in the video - without "clearing cache."

Weird though - I unlocked all three at the same time but it gave them to me out of order. First I got Basic Science (bronze), then Aperture Science (gold), and then Rocket Science (silver).

It ain't that hard if you just think alot.

I busted my nuts doing all the golds legit after it lost my progress TWICE FFS, but in the end I'm so glad I didn't know about this cheat then because I would've thrown in the towel and used it, whereas now it's one of my proudest achievements up there with Mile High Club.

I hate this so much... i was only about 4 away from getting all gold then i tried this on the impossible ones. But i might have done it wrong and now it set my gold challenges to 0 and it made it so i can't do any challenges. WTF?

It works. All you need to do is save before the end, then start a new game, then relaod, then the game will load with the cheats off.

nope works fine i got stuck on the last challenge for least portals (where you have to go up the 5 or so platforms above the acid/poison liquid) couldn't get the portals to go where i wanted them and had to do 4 moves with 3 portals so tested the portal anywhere cheat on that total bitch of a level and now i'm going to do the rest without cheats but for those who can't be bothered or just can't do it, it works 100% (at least on least portals anyway)

That may be true but for others whose stats keep getting deleted (me for example) it seriously is a pain in the ass to keep doing over and over again. Props to anyone who successfully did it w/o the stupid glitch popping up.

I watched some of the videos on youtube on how to do the levels using least steps and OMG its looks soooo hard some of the levels are done so quick using the portal gun and also it would take me ages to know where to put the portals to get to a certain place or to get an item to a certain place, i can just about deal with the least portal challenges lol.

These cheats actually work really well for "least steps" because you can skip a lot of the level sometimes by placing a portal where you normally couldn't.

On the "least time" challenges, when you start the level save immediately, like in the first second. Then take your time entering the cheats you are going to use. Then reload that save you made in the first second of the level. All of your cheats should still be active and it's like you didn't waste any time entering them!

These cheats do not help at all on some levels, but on some they do. Good Luck!
