Spamming News Posts NOT Tolerated

Anyone found spamming the news posts will receive an infraction on the forums. This includes dumbasses who think it is important to simply reply with "First" or "Second" or anything of that nature. Especially when they are too slow and their message ends up second or third... also try to avoid simply saying "Cool" or "Awesome" -- put some thought into the post, and maybe say why you think it is cool or awesome. Posting that you are looking for boosting partners (if the news is about achievements) will also not be tolerated. Deciding what is spam will be discretionary to the moderators of the site and arguing will do you no good.

We included this system on the site so people could easily discuss/comment on the content of the post. Don't be morons, please.

And remember, even if you only post on the news and dont really post the forums- you can be banned still.

And if you persist we can block you from being able to see the homepage as well, so you would lose access to the site. I know I've given 3 infractions now for spamming news posts.

but on a serious note, what exactly do you mean by news post spamming? do you mean if I found a cool news article on assassin's creed (for example purposes) i wouldn't be able to post it?

or do you mean just spamming other people's news articles? like if someone were to post a news article on assassin's creed, and those people that only simply reply "cool" or whatever to them?

(or both)?
I just want to be clear on the subject, thats all


EDIT: One thing I believe should be classified as spam is all of the new thread-posts of just a youtube video. Those are mostly pointless. Now if it goes well with another topic or supplements an article of some sort, THEN I believe it should be fine.

I have been waiting for this "official" announcement. Reading the news article comments is mostly pointless until you get down to the 4th or 5th comment. Hopefully that will change now.

No, he means the news on the homepage. You can leave comments on the articles, reviews, etc and a lot of people have been spamming them instead of leaving worthwhile comments.

This is regarding the news posts on the main site, and the comment system within. For instance, check the Devil May Cry 4 review announcement. Some jackass decided he would grace the post with a comment of "First!" which appeared as the second comment on the post.

I agree, you see too much of that junk where people reply with "cool" or "yeah" just so that they can get their post count up.

I think there should be a rule that a post should be a minimum of "x" amount of sentences... or "x" amount of words....etc...

there is a minimum character amount, but i think that minimum is like 5 or 6 characters...

Sounds good .. i like commenting on the new topics if it interests me .. it really doesn't bother me that some peolpe have the IQ of a toaster .. but on the other hand some of those comments are really lame and show lack of ethier A. a brain or B. common sence .. just because they don't count towards your post count doesn't mean they are thier for spamming.

I've seen these kind of useless comments one other gaming sites aswell and I cannot seem to understand what they win by being first.
Personally I think anyone who thinks they need to post "first!" should be banned immediately. It's messing up the profesionality of this site

Its always best to be straight to the point about things rather than not and allow leeway for interpretation. Give them an inch and some will test the boundaries of how far they can take thing. When looking at the news on the front page I normally don't even scroll down to view the comments because I personally don't care what others think about most a things. I definitely agree with Pants, "First" comments by people are absolutely pointless but they are found on many places that allow comments on the net. Granted you might be first, but all you've proven is that you have a quick finger and a good internet connection; two things that don't require a whole hell of a lot of brain power or though process.

Good job on shutting this down before it becomes an overwhelming issue guys.

Back on topic, I'm so glad that you guys keep this site clean and useful. I've seen other sites fall apart because of crap like this. Who wants to scroll a page and a half to get to the actually relevant comments? No one, so no one reads threads that have posts like that. As always, way to stay on top of things.

this is a vary good idea i always feel sorry for those who post "first" because eve when having an interesting news in front of their eyes they aren't able to come up with a comment.

Don't take this the wrong way, we're not going to IP Ban someone and not let them even see the site if they do it, but they'll get one infraction so they get the point that it isn't allowed. Three infractions is only a three-day ban, but if they keep it up, we'll get rid of them. We give plenty of warnings before booting someone from our community.
