I have been asked by a friend for help in PhotoshopCS2, I decided that I could make a topic strictly for tutorials that range from Novice all the way to Expert, I will post the first tutorial in this post:

================================================================

We Will be creating a somewhat edge smudged signature which I found extremely good for Novice and Beginners, I hope you enjoy reading and atempting my tutorial, I wish to see that it helps those who ask.

STEP 1. First you will want to open a new document(File>New) with a size of maybe 500x150. Now I want you to fill that layer with BLACK, click on the BUCKET TOOL on the left side of your screen where your tools are and make sure that the color palette has black on the top and white on the bottom, now click your canvas and make it black.

STEP 2. This step is easier than throwing a rock at the ground. Here is what you have to do now; Find a render at any website that have renders, I go here: http://www.iphotoshop.org/renders you may choose any render from the selection there, I personally like this one:

STEP 3. Now that you have found your render simply open it in PhotoshopCS2 and drag it into your new document as if you were dragging MP3 files to your iPod. Once your render is in there duplicate it once so you have two layers of your render, (Layer>Duplicate>Layer).

STEP 4. Now its time to get into more detail and so you can get a bit more familiar with the program, in the tool's column select the smudge tool like so:

Now press F5 to bring you up to the Brushes menu that lets you select the spread of your smudging, click on Scattering, these are the settings I used, but you may experiment if you wish:

SCATTER 1000%

Count 1

Count Jitter 100%

Also make sure that the boxes on the left of the Brushes Menu are checked like so:

Check the boxes for SHAPE DYNAMICS, SCATTERING, OTHER DYNAMICS and SMOOTHING

Now that we are done with the settings I want you to select the layer of the 1st Render and smudge around the sides like so:

STEP 4 CONTINUED.

Now that we got that first layer smudged we want it to look a whole lot more grungier so lets duplicate that layer (Layer>Duplicate>Layer). Now on the layer you just duplicated do this (Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen More), repeat STEP 4 PART ONE except duplicate the top render layer and smudge the top part, erase what doesn't look good, this is what I have now:

STEP 5. Now for the FUN PART WAHOO!!! This takes a bit of skill actually haha, or knowledge but its fun. (Layer>New Adjustment Layer> Gradient Map) When the Gradient Map pops up make sure your color palette has BLACK AND WHITE ONLY, now click okay to accept the gradient map and then click okay for the colors. Now you must have the gradient map selected in the layer box and in the layer box above the layer should say NORMAL and should be able to click that and bring up a drop down menu, in the drop down menu click on DARKEN. Darken has given us a different color which leads me to this:

STEP 6. Now that we got the fun part done, its time for some lighting which is real amusing if you get the hang of it, anyways create a new layer (SHIFT+CTRL+N) Now select the brush tool and right click on your canvas with the brush tool to bring up the Brush Selection Box, now select the 300px brush and dab it once with White(to select your white press X) where your light source will be, make sure you do not put too much or put not enough, anyway here is what I have now:

STEP 7. Now for the finishing touches, (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Brightness/Contrast) Now press okay to bring up the options for the Brightness/Contrast, play around with it until you are happy with what you have.

A few more finishing touches are to add Text with the text tool that is obvious to find, its a big "T" on the tool selection box, create it however you want but DO NOT make it too big, DO NOT put it in the center, DO NOT make it brighter than the brightest effect in your signature, IT WILL MAKE OR BREAK your signature. Now (CTRL+SHIFT+N) to create a new layer, and press (CTRL+A) to select the whole layer and press (M) to bring out the Rectangular Marquee Tool and right click the selected layer. Now Scroll down the box and click on STROKE. Make sure your stroke is INSIDE and 1 pixel black or what ever colour except a shade. Here is the outcome:

I hope that everyone that tried this tutorial had fun making the signature, anyway, PLEASE DO NOT RIP THIS, I have watermarked the signature to prevent rippage. Anyways, if you do rip this, I will see that there is a punishment. This is the first tutorial that I have made in a very long time I mean 7 or 8 months ago. I made this thread for others to share their tutorials and to help those who are interested in signature making. I would love to see more tutorials from anyone else, its always fun to attempt them.
