Rewinding sponsorships?

Ok so during a race or free roam, when you have a good combo going on, and you decide to rewind ( too avoid crashing, or correct your driving line, etc...) it breaks you combo automatically. Does everything you just combo'd not count after you rewind or does it still count toward your sponsorships?

I'm pretty sure you get the sponsorships challenges it's just the points from the combo get taken away.

The sponorship challenges always count right away but the points won't go towards your popularity rank. You can test this by jump around the golf course and crashing, your air jumps will still add up. Although, the chain of "over 9000" I'm not sure about those because I've never been careless enough to crash after getting that many points.
