Achievement Guide and Road Map (WIP)
Needs to be completed: -Finish Videos for Hard Boss Fights, Challenges, and Arcade Playthrough -Tips for Hard mode -Tips and Info for Arcade Mode Hopefully I'll get all this done within the next week ROAD MAP Overview: -Estimated achievement difficulty: 9/10 (Probable to Change) -Offline: 12 (400) -Approximate amount of time to 400: 20+ (Depends largely on skill) -Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 3 (Hard Story, New Game+, Arcade) -Recommended number of playthroughs: 4 (Easy Story, New Game+, Hard Story, Arcade) -Number of missable achievements: 5 (English Read Good, P-whipped, One Knight stand, Three star chef, Sunny side up) -Do cheat codes disable achievements?: No cheats -Does difficulty affect achievements? Yes (Like a lion after its prey) -Glitchy achievements: none -Unobtainable achievements: none -Extra equipment needed? none Introduction: Black Knight Sword is a sidescrolling hack-n-slash that is kind of a throwback to the older and more simplistic sidescrollers. Method 1(Recommended): Part 1: Start your first playthrough on easy difficulty, and run through the game trying to beat the game without dying. Refer to "One Knight Stand" for further info. Also on this playthrough you will want to make sure never to enter a shop, which will grant you the "Sunny Side Up" achievement. Throughout this playthrough be on the lookout for the 16 cat head grass collectibles scattered throughout the levels. Refer to my collectible guide for help in finding all of them. Part 2: As soon as you finish your first playthrough, the game will automatically start a new game+ on whatever difficulty you were on (in this case easy). This playthrough is required in order to get the true ending thus unlocking the credits granting you with "The next story is yours" achievement. Part 3: Now you should be fairly familiar with how the game works, and the level designs. So, now would be the time to start a new game on hard in order to get "Like a lion after it's prey" (refer to achievement guide for more info. Just know that hard mode is in a completely different league then easy mode. Part 4: Now you should try to finish all 25 challenges to get the "Hard Worker" achievement. Also this would be the time to finish your last playthrough, this time on Arcade Mode to get "True Knight" which is by far the hardest achievement in the game. Finally if you haven't already gotten "Are you really the hero?" achievement for getting 50 game overs, then that will be your last achievement to go for. Method 2: In order to minimize the amount of playthroughs, you could do your first playthrough on hard, not die, and not enter a shop. This is in no way at all recommended considering it will make for a much harder experience and only save you one playthrough. But, if you like a challenge or consider yourself a god at 2D hack and slash's then by all means go for it. I give props for anyone who manages to do it this way. Let's start here- 10 - Clear stage 1NOT MISSABLE will unlock as soon as stage one is completed on any difficulty. You call that an ending?- 20 - Clear stage 5NOT MISSABLE, obtained by beating the fifth (final) stage in the game on any difficulty. I English Read Good- 10 - Read every tutorial boardThroughout the beginning of stage 1 there will be a tutorial section where boards will pop-up and give you tips about the game. To get the achievement all of the tutorial boards must pop-up, more than likely you will get this without even trying. Just be thorough in the beginning and don't run past anything. Three Star Chef- 10 - Use a magic attack on the breadMid-way through stage 4 you will come across a pyramid of bread. Simply get close to it and activate your magic ability "press Y". Are you really the hero?-20 - Game over, 50 times overSimply get a game over 50 times. You may end up getting this accidentally by just playing through the game. Either way I would save it for your last achievement, that way you don't waste time by dying over and over to get 50 game overs. Like a lion after it's prey- 30 - Finish the game in hard modeHard mode includes more enemies, stronger boss fights/enemies, and some boss fights have slightly different attacks. This will take some patience but generally the boss fights will be the worst of your problems. Stage 1 Boss Video (Hard) Stage 2 Boss Video (Hard) Insert Here Stage 3 Boss Video (Hard) Insert Here Stage 4 Boss Video (Hard) Insert Here Stage 5 Boss Video (Hard) Insert Here Sunny side up- 30 - Finish the game without ever entering the shopObtained by completing the entire game without entering or using a shop. There are at least 2 shops per stage. The shopkeeper is an eyeball in this game. To activate the shop you must attack the cage containing the eyeball. Seeing as health and defense upgrades can be purchased from the shop it's best to do this on the easy difficulty. I can confirm that this achievement will not unlock if attempted on your new game+ playthrough. ![]() One Knight stand- 100 - Finish the game without dyingThis achievement is not nearly as hard as it sounds thanks to the save/quit trick. In order to do this trick just make sure to pause and save your game after every checkpoint you get. You'll know when you get a checkpoint because a weird sound will play and an icon will appear in the bottom left of your screen. If you happen to die, which more than likely you will quite a few times. Simply pause, go to the main menu and hit continue. It will take you back to the last checkpoint you saved on. I must stress the importance of saving your game manually because if you don't and you just shut your xbox off and try to start back up where you left of you won't be able to, it will make you start over. In other words checkpoints are temporary in this game unless you save them. A True Knight- 100 - Clear arcade modeArcade Mode Playthrough Video Hard Worker- 20 - Finish every mission in challenge modeThere are 25 challenge mission to be completed. These mission range from 10 seconds to 3 minutes a piece. In order to complete each challenge you simply have to make it to the exit door without dying. The amount of time you take doing each challenge determines your grade. "A" being the best grade possible per level. To get the achievement, you only have to complete each mission not "A" rank each one. Challenge Mission Videos Missions 1-5 Missions 6-10 Missions 11-15 Missions 16-20 Missions 21-25 The next story is yours- 30 - Watch the end creditsYou will only be able to see the credits directly after your New Game+ play through. In new game+ more enemies are added and existing enemies and bosses have considerable more health. Luckily being new game+ you will keep all your previously purchased upgrades. The only part that will possibly give you a problem is the final boss battle. Last edited by Vampyre Blade; 12-20-2012 at 02:00 AM. |

P-Whipped- 20 - Collect all the cat head grass in story modeThere are a total of 16 cat head grass (collectibles) in this game. There are 3 on each of the 5 stages and then 1 in the tutorial. Most are fairly easy to find if you check all the different paths and corners. As soon as you pick up a collectible you will permanately have it. If you miss a collectible you can always find it on a different play through. To check how many collectibles you have gotten you can go to the main menu. Text/Video Guide Total 16 cat head grass Tutorial- 1 cat head grass 1/1- NOT MISSABLE, can be found mid way through the tutorial. The game will literally tell you to pick it up. It will appear in front of you atop a semi-raised platform. Stage 1- 3 cat head grass 1/3-Directly after the very first shop you come across, you will see it hovering below the next gap you must jump across to proceed. To pick up either fall of the edge and take the damage (death if your health is low) or try and fall off and jump back to the ledge as soon as you pick up the collectible. 2/3-Very soon after the last collectible you will come across a cave with a bluish tint to it. Instead of going in the cave and proceeding through use the grassy platforms before the cave to jump on top of it. Follow it a little ways and you will see the collectible in the middle of a few very small platforms you have to use to get to the other side. If you fall you will end up in the cave so, simply backtrack and try again. 3/3-Not long after the second collectible you will come across your first encounter with two wolf enemies. During you battle with them, or shortly after you will notice a tree with a very thick protruding branch. Jump on it and then jump right onto two more branches. You will then see a cloud jump on the cloud and continue jumping from cloud to cloud and on the fourth cloud you will find the final collectible for this stage. Tutorial + Stage 1 Video Stage 2- 3 cat head grass 1/3-From the start of the level move forward and you will see a doorway. Jump atop the doorway next to the "Pub" sign. To your left will be a block to turn corporeal by using your Black Hellebore (RT). Afterwards, jump on the block and then jump to the cat head grass suspended in the air. 2/3-Mid-way through the sewer part of the level and after riding on multiple "cat mouth elevators" you will find yourself hitting a checkpoint. At this checkpoint you will notice that to your left there is a lowered floor filled with spikes. Normally you would go right to continue but, if you go left and jump on these spikes you will see there was actually a collectible tucked back in that corner. As far as I know you will have to take the damage getting to this collectible, because I don't think there's a way to avoid landing on the spikes at least once. 3/3-Shortly after getting to the underground caverns you will come across a raised wooden drawbridge that must be lowered in order to proceed. If you go down below the drawbridge you will find the block/switch that needs activated with your Hellebore (RT). Once activating the drawbridge will lower but don't go back up to it just yet instead jump on the block you just activated. You will then notice the final collectible on a ledge to the right of the block you're standing on, so jump to it. Stage 2 Video Stage 3- 3 cat head grass 1/3-You will come to a very large gear that is blocking your path. There is a block/switch to the left of the gear that you can use your Hellebore (RT) to activate and turn the gear, so you can crawl underneath it to the right side. Once on the right side climb your way to the top of the gear and you will be able to see the collectible trapped in a cubby hole by the gear. You will also notice another block upwards and to the right of the collectible, that you can get to. The key here is to use your Hellebore on the block/switch but you want to be standing on the gear itself below where the block/switch is not actually next to the block switch, so you'll be shooting your Hellebore upwards. That way when the gear turns you can quickly hop through to the collectible, if you miss your opportunity you'll have to reload and try again. I would recommend viewing my video for this one to give you some much needed visual aid. 2/3-This collectible is suspended in the air mid way down the fall from where the floor falls from beneath you. The collectible is more towards the left but still sorta close to the middle. This is the same fall that after landing you will encounter a new enemy type "wheel chair attached to a spiked gravestone" and also another "fat silver knight". If you miss the collectible on the first fall that's ok because after killing the enemies at the bottom you can take the elevator to the right back up to the top and keep trying until you get it. 3/3-This collectible is shortly after the part where you jump across all the suspended bells. The collectible is at the part where you have to run down the hall way when the things on the ceiling are trying to crush you, after running down the hallway there will be a gap and suspended in this gap is your collectible. You have to get this collectible similarly to how you had to get the first collectible from stage one, fall off the ledge into the gap and then hop back to the ledge. This one is a bit trickier because you only have one shot or else you'll be crushed. Stage 3 Video Stage 4- 3 cat head grass 1/3-This is the only collectible I didn't find on my first play through. It can be found suspended well above the diner you come across. The place where all those men holding guns are cheering, and also where you have to fight the two "skull riding pig motorcycles". This collectible is tricky because you can't see it unless you get the pigs to fling you into the sky. The easiest way to get them to do this is to attack them until they stand up. Then lead them underneath where you want to be flung and then jump on them and do your downward sword strike (Press A to Jump Hold X and DOWN on D-pad simultaneously) so you'll be continuously bouncing off them with your sword. The pig should then send you soaring in the sky and you'll see the collectible. Just keep doing this until you manage to hit it. 2/3-This collectible is found on top of the tallest stack of the brown cat head grass that can be seen in the backdrop during the part where the missile silo is shooting all those missiles at you. It will actually be the final time the missiles are shot at you when they are all crowded heavily on the right side of the screen. In order to get high enough to reach it you must jump atop the missiles as they are approaching you until your on the highest missile and then ride it left towards the collectible. 3/3-This one isn't really missable, after defeating the boss he will chase you up the screen and you must platform your way to the top. The collectible will be on a ledge that you have to jump to anyways a little over half-way to the top. Stage 4 Video Stage 5- 3 cat head grass Note: This level the collectibles can be gotten in any order just depends on the order you choose to do the boss doors. 1/3 (Bottom Left Door Collectible)-As soon as you go through the first door and into the second section, you will find the collectible in the left corner across the spiked floor. You can use you downward sword strike to bounce off the enemies on the spikes to avoid taking damage from them. 2/3 (Top Left Door Collectible)-This one is very easy to spot because it will be right in the path you have to take. It is missable though, you will find it in the second section after going through the first door. It will be towards the end of this section you will end up dropping down a fairly decent drop. This drop is surrounded with the "purple floating demon heads" the collectible will be half-way down so do your best of bouncing off the demon heads to slow your drop and make the collectible easier to get. If you miss it you will have to reload your last checkpoint. 3/3 (Bottom Right Door Collectible)- This one is not missable it will be in the middle of a gap that you have to jump in order to proceed. It will be found in the second section after going through the first door. Stage 5 Video Last edited by Vampyre Blade; 12-16-2012 at 02:23 AM. |

I did not get the tutorial achievement and I already beat Level 1 making sure I walked past each info board. You should update the roadmap to state this achievement can be glitchy & missable. I still have yet to get the achievement - I am going to start a new game and try again now.

Update: I got the achievement and it was just a door that I didn't go into before which led to some more tutorial rooms (the ones showing item boxes, cat hair, and switches). Not glitchy but missable.

I think it's a safe choice to go ahead and raise the 6/10.

Have you tried Arcade mode? It's going to be basically impossible for me to beat that.

Can anyone even confirm how long Arcade Mode is? I'm assuming 5 levels, but unless the timer resets per level, that could be wrong.. Just curious. I died at the first boss lol

Any advice on the final boss without any upgrades? My Hellibore takes forever to weaken the shield and I always seem to get hit at least once by her stupid attacks. The first two stages are easy to avoid any damage, but stage 3 is hella hard!

Yeah, not a whole lot I don't think. It's certainly going to be a struggle for me. I recently purchased a ton of games.. I think I can 100% all of them... except this one. Though I'm gonna push for it. Great game still.

You trying to get the Sunny Side Up achievement? If so, it does take a little effort. Without any upgrades, it'll take 4 attacks at the end I believe. The best thing to do is keep trying, and remember to dodge her attacks with evade and jumping. Don't forgot you can attack the little things she shoots as well. It took me several tries. Good luck!

Is it best to use hellibore on the shield as often as possible, so I have my sword free and only use it for the easy attacks to avoid? Is evade useful for the phase three attacks? I pretty much never use it in the game (there are far easier tactics to attack the other enemies), so never use it in the boss fight.
