Tips on getting Shadow, Ghost, Clean Hands and Mostly Flesh and Steel in ONE go

Some of the following are confirmed by various sources. Thanks to you all. Excuse me for not being able to credit you all.

Note that the whole point of this thread is to GET THEM FAST.

These tips are to give you a quick way to get rid of the listed troublesome achievements. (I wouldn't say "hard".)

If you wanna get all the collectibles and do side quests as well, this is most likely not for you.

If you have questions like "Can I also do that while using this method?" or "Can I do this instead?", feel free to ask, someone might be able to help.

Don't expect I myself could answer though.

I would really like to help, but I simply don't have time to try everything.

Cheers!

P.S. If you don't like texts, jump to the videos in #2 and follow strictly.

READ THIS FIRST!

There are reports about a possible glitch that may prevent you from getting any of these achievements.

Read the article and learn about the "Game Save Mechanism" first.

This could possibly save you from some troubles.

Thanks.

First of all, Yes. I did it all in one go. On normal, if you are wondering.

Also, I killed absolutely NO ONE, NO HOUNDS AND NO RATS, literally all living things.

I did NOT aquire any Weapon Upgrades and equip Bone Charms as well.

I did get 2 Runes and 1 Bone Charm but did not use them.

Note that these are something that I did and would recommend you to follow.

Since all of these require a complete playthrough, I simply cannot 100% confirm everything.

However, if you could provide any confirmed info, you are more than welcome. Just please make sure they are confirmed.

If you are planning to do this crazy task, first of all it is not so crazy at all.

I am gonna divide it into 3 parts, General Strategies, Facts & Warnings, Mission Specific.

In the following, "Mission" refers to what is normally known as "Chapter", which you can choose from the main menu. All in-Mission tasks will be referred as "Quest" or "Sub-Quest".

Facts & Warnings

  1. You cannot upgrade Blink to level 2. Not to say getting any Powers and Enhancements.
  2. #Weapons upgrades are allowed. (Credit: Shiftie, Nozza x360a)
  3. #You can use Bone Charms.
  4. You can ignore sub-quests.
  5. #You can kill rats and hounds.
  6. Enemy's suspicion level (Lightning Bolts around their heads) could go up to level 3 (3 white bars).
You are fine as long as the 3 BARS don't go RED and BREAK. (Credit: tidus9605605 #5, Genesis x360a #22)
  7. Unconscious bodies found are completely irrelevant to the achievements.
  8. Alarms Rung is fine.
  9. Do not throw unconscious bodies into water/off a staircase/from high place.
Any actions that will logically physically kill an unconscious man WILL kill in the game.
*NOT CONFIRMED! Reports are that bodies eaten by rat swarms are fine.
  10. Blink is NOT a teleporting skill. Anything gets in your path will hit you or get hit by you.
  11. With weapons sheathed, you walk faster, can choke but you cannot Blink.
  12. You must use non-lethal methods on key targets. Going lethal on key targets will count as Kills and is not required for Ghost.
  13. Health and Mana will be recovered after most of the missions.
  14. You can do some of the side-quest prior to receiving them from the quest givers. (E.g. 1st quest from Slackjaw in Mission 3 as shown in the video below.) This will save you much time.

    # indicates that I have not tried it myself to confirm. But it comes from multiple reliable sources from this forum?

General Strategies

  1. Be a Ninja. Sounds stupid but true. Just imagine if you are a ninja, what would you do?
Not walking through the doors. That's for sure.
Take the windows, rooftops, vents, and whatever you can find. There are way more paths than you could imagine. And some windows and vents need to be "opened" when you get close.
  2. Use Lean. Without Dark Vision, this is very useful. I can't emphasize enough. Use this OFTEN.
Hold :ybut: and use :ls: to lean. Once you have leaned, you can release :ybut: and adjust camera with :rs:. You can even move a bit. Press :ybut: again to return to normal stance.
As long as your body is totally behind cover before you lean, you will be fine. Even if they are right in your face, they wouldn't see you.
BUT the covering could be tricky, so try not to get too close to the edgeS.
  3. Use Jump and Climb. Hold :abut: to jump and climb or Press :abut: as you get to a ledge after jumping. It will show a prompt.
There are many places that you can simply Climb up top.
Don't always Blink. If you can Climb, then Climb. This will save you a lot of time as you don't have to wait for the mana to recover.
  4. Use Blink. There are many ways to use this one and only trick you've got.

  5. Move fast.
If you choke someone and need to get away fast, Blink.

Sometimes you won't get the chance when enemies are completely isolated. So act fast, grap him choke him and Blink away.

Also, when you are just wandering around use it to save time.

  6. Jump far.
Sprint, jump and Blink. This could get you very far.

  7. Detect "foot spots".
If you are not sure if a spot is standable, use Blink. It will show two layers of circles if you can stand there, otherwise just one.

  8. Get high.
Combine jump with Blink will get you up easily.

If you can't get to certain points with Blink. Try aim down a bit and jump. See if those Blue Arrows will show.

  9. Combine with Lean.
This could get you behind the guards that are walking towards you. Get you out of desperate situations. Could be used in other ways too.

  10. Tips on Blink.

Don't judge the distance Blink will get you. TRY IT.

The displacement range of it is kinda tricky. Sometimes you think you are not gonna make it but it will do the trick.

Also, Blink and Climb (Blue Arrow) instead of just Blink(Blue Circle) as you could slip and fall off.

[*]Explore. There are almost always a path that you can get through rather easily.

[*]Act Fast. Sometimes the best chance for you to get pass is right at the beginning, when some of the guards are talking in particular.

So don't hesitate and wait. If you see a possible point of entry, go for it.

You can always reload if you failed, right?

[*]Plan Your Route. If you are familiar with the game, you can do some quests and tasks before receiving them from the quest givers. You don't have to get some of the Mission Clues to do the tasks too.

I have moved the entire Mission Specific section to the next post.

I know it could be frustrating that this is still not completed yet.

I am currently working on a very hard playthrough with high chaos, mainly focusing on the story now.

By the time I finish this, I should be able to wrap this up.

But please kindly be reminded that this could take some time because I am playing it nice and slow so as to understand the whole plot thoroughly.

BTW, the information so far should be enough for most. So you should not have any major problems, but I think I ought to finish what I started.

Thanks for all your patience.

Hope this help.

Mission Specific

MINOR SPOILERs below.

For specific details, PM me or leave comments.

Sorry about the poor quality of the videos.

Thanks.

Note that guards locations and patrol routes may vary, so as some safe combinations. I only aimed at showing you the route. SAVE OFTEN and explore your custom way.

  1. Take notice of my stance throughout the game. Only enter Stealth when needed and use Sprint wisely.
  2. Take notice about how I utilize Lean together with Blink.
  3. Take notice of the Thunder Bolt signals. You may be seen from time to time. It's fine as long as you are not detected.
  4. Excuse me for messing up a little bit.

All videos are now up.

I will be adding specific details for each Mission.

[spoiler=mission]

Prologue

  1. Just block and wait. Not attacking the assassins at all is recommended.
*NOT CONFIRMED. After what people said, I decided to put it this way. (Credit: Kyarourin, #8, darkmorgado #19)

Mission 1: Dishonored

  1. The blast you create will kill nearby guards. Beware! (~3:50)
  2. Do not rush out after the blast. Instead, sneak out to the left and jump off the bridge. Check the video. (~3:50)
  3. After getting out of water, when you get in the tunnel leading to the sewer, you don't hear something like "He's heading for the sewers". Then you are clear.
  4. You DON'T have to do this!
If you are planing on taking down the guards in the sewer, what's in the video is the easiest way.
I just took out 2, but the other 2 should be no problems then. (~7:10)

Mission 2: High Overseer Campbell

  1. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you skip Granny Rags. Otherwise, you will have to fight her in Mission 7 and it is almost impossible NOT to kill her, which will void Clean Hands. Getting "undetected" while fighting her is somehow frustrating too.
  2. Make sure you choke Curnow AFTER Campbell finishes talking and Curnow starts talking. Otherwise, you may be discovered. (~5:30, Part 2)

Intermission

  1. You could be detected by the weepers here, but you cannot kill them.
*NOT CONFIRMED! Info comes from here. (Credit: TH3 XB0X G3N1U5)

Mission 3: House of Pleasure

  1. See #21. I have NOT confirmed this. Follow at you own risk.
  2. You can take the Last Word before going to Slackjaw to avoid backtracking and save some time.
  3. You can also go to the Art Dealer's Apartment and rob the safe before going back to Slackjaw to get another achievement. Check the video.
  4. I skipped this part. You DON'T have to do it either.
There are 3 assassins near the guy that sells scavenge stuff.
One of them is on the rooftop right behind that seller. The other two are in the apartments up top.
Note that they are always there and you can sneak up on them to take them out.
There is a green balcony you can use to get to the rooftops, at the intersection right after you exit the distillery.

Mission 4 - The Royal Physician

  1. The guard at (~0:33, Part 3) could be tricky. Try to use Lean+Blink trick to get behind him if needed.
  2. At (~0:43, Part 4), if you stay on that rooftop for too long, you may be discovered by a guard to your right.

Mission 5 - Lady Boyale's Last Party

  1. Your target could be any one of the 3 Lady Boyale. If your target is (provided that you approach from the staircase behind the dinning room, ~3:00),

  2. Esma, the room right as you reach the 2nd floor is it. Check the bathroom.

  3. Lydia, her room is far on the other side of the house. Sneaking past the guard shouldn't be hard, especially when they are talking. On your way out, you can just jump downstairs. (~4:57)

  4. Waverly, lucky you. There is a switch in Emma's room besides the bed near the table. Pull it to reveal a secret passage above your head that leads you right to Waverly's room. I have shown this in the video. (~3:50)

[*]Look for Dunwall Skeleton Key in the target's room. Could come in handy in the next mission.

[*]You should try to talk the target to follow you down the basement or go there herself. This is the easiest way.

Save before talking to her.

[*]If you are to do the duel with Lord Shaw, use sleeping darts. It's fine.

[*]You can have you weapon drawn at all time.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TScnNFYsUWM]Dishonored - "Mission 5: Lady Boyale's Last Party" Naked Stealth Walkthrough - YouTube[/ame]

Mission 6: Return to the Tower

  1. The Tallboys in Part 1 are extremely annoying. Save often in this part. I suggest you to save at the talking couple (~2:47, Part 1)as getting pass the 2nd Tallboy needs a bit of luck.
  2. The combination code for Lord Regent's safe is always the same. You can go directly to his safe prior to the Broadcasting Station.
  3. You can get the key to the Broadcasting Station from Lady Boyale's room in the previous mission. That way you can approach from ground level and take out the Pylon right away. Save you some troubles.

Mission 7: The Flooded District

  1. If you skipped Granny Rags in Mission 2, you should be able to head through the sewer gate right away.
  2. EVEN NON-LETHAL means are counted as Kill for Granny Rags here! Because you basically "destroy" her soul while burning her cameo. Going non-lethal on her "body" is meaningless.
Info comes from here. (Credit: TH3 XB0X G3N1U5)
  3. If you do have to face Granny Rags or Slackjaw, your best bet will be glitching through the sewer gate. (See the Sokolov Painting guide, post #2.)

If you are planning to do this crazy task, first of all it is not so crazy at all.

And here are some tips.

I am gonna divide it into 2 parts, general strategies and facts & warnings.

Strategies are something you will use all the time, while Facts & Warnings are something you must beware. (At least as far as I know)

Facts & Warnings

  1. Do not kill the assassins in the prologue. Just block and wait.
I have heard reports that doing so will void Clean Hands.
  2. There are warning signals with three bars on the head of an enemy when they get suspicious.
You are fine as long as they don't fill up. (2 bars is okay, 3 is a no go, reload immediately)
  3. Bodies found is completely irrelevant to the achievements.
  4. Do not throw unconscious bodies into water or off a staircase or from high place.
Any actions that will logically physically kill a unconscious man WILL kill in the game.
*The blast you create in Mission 1 will kill nearby guards. Beware!
  5. Do not rush out after the blast in Mission 1. Instead, sneak out to the left and jump off the bridge.

THIS IS NOT COMPLETED YET. I will update later today.

Hope this help.

This is wrong. You can fill all three bars as long as they don't go red and break. 3 is when they have a good idea at where you are and will rush to inspect for a minute or two then continue patrol paths.

So, you're saying that any knocked out body left and found by a passing NPC is perfectly fine? It will not void any of the stealth related achievements?

Just checking before I start the game over the w/e.

Yes, I tried that.

But bodied found will trigger guards on alert.

This means the guards could see you a lot easier even when you are at places where you will normally NOT be found. So I would not recommend you to just let the bodies lying around.

No offense but can you confirm that?

It seems that I always get detected and when I escaped it goes back to 3 white bars.

Never happened to me that I got 3 white bars without being detected.

Anyway, if this is confirmed, I will update that.

And thanks for the info, Tidus.

Killing the assassins in the prologue does not affect Clean Hands. I shot them and still got the achievement.

One thing to be careful of is making sure unconscious bodies do not drop from any height. Even a short drop off a ledge can kill them. If in doubt, go to their bodies and make sure they are unconscious.

Also, SPOILERS:

When you are in Dunwall Tower, do NOT go after the torturer. I possessed him, walked him to the stairs away from his dog and knocked him out, but it registered him as dead. Maybe it was a fluke, but best to avoid.

As well, when you get to Granny Rags vs Slackjaw, just take the key and run. You cannot finish either quest without losing Clean Hands. I do not know if alerting Granny affects the stealth achievements though.

So I have been looking for any info on this for a couple of days now and nothing. Which is strange. but my question is this. Do dogs count as kills? I keep trying to put them down with sleep bolts, but they end up dying. I assume they're dead because there is not parenthesis around the word unconscious under their body when I go to move them.

Never mind, I figured it out. This game has one tiny little flaw, just need to make an adjustment to it. When you put your weapon away, crossbow, and use Blink, then equip your crossbow again, the default bolt is loaded, NOT the last type, such as sleep bolts, that were previously equipped. I was waiting for a shot on the fly after I blinked to a vantage point, equipped my crossbow and shot immediately, not realizing the default bolts were once again equipped. Got it under control now, dogs are taking a dog day afternoon off!!

Can you confirm that?

Just that you shot them and they drop doesn't mean they are dead.

Especially when they are blinking around.

But again, if this is confirmed, I will update.

I did mention above "taking care of the bodies". Thanks.

This is one thing that I don't know.

It doesn't count in the stat but I didn't take that risk.

I didn't even kill rats.

I put sleeping darts in them and they went to sleep.

You can tell by their snore

And I am pretty sure there are "Unconscious" messages too.

Did you use the wrong bolts?

EDIT: Self-explained, see #10.

From what the Achievement Guide mentions, upgrading your equipment is fine. As long as you don't upgrade any powers, including Blink or buy any new one's you're good to go.

Yes, I tried that.

Yeah I figured out what was wrong. Would be nice to know though if animals do or do not count for sure.

No offense but I wouldn't state something like that if I didn't test it out first. I've gotten to 3 bars several times and still get my ghost check at the end.

As I said, every time I got 3 bars I got detected. I think that's "tested out" for me.

Glad that you can confirm that, I will update right away.

Thanks again.

Can anyone confirm or deny if contaminating the Bottle Street Gang's Elixer with the plague counts as towards kills? It seems like it could go either way to me.

This is another thing I am not sure.

I bypassed that sub-quest.

But it doesn't count in the stat, that's all I know.

Sorry.

I bypassed that sub-quest

I'm guessing that this is similar to Deus Ex: HR, that if a body isn't labelled as "unconscious", the person is dead?

I reloaded a save, because I knocked out a guard, who then slipped into the water. I removed him instantly, but the label had disappeared.

Yes, indeed.

No "Unconscious" means "Dead".

And you can tell by their snore as well.

Never play Deus Ex: HR, so don't know if it is the same.

You can kill the Pendletons and still get the Clean Hands achievement,

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fZU6qqeR6k&list=UUlBdM5tlHgXTowzjJfHv8Dg&index=9&feature=plcp]Dishonored : Mission #03 Clean Hands Ghost Shadow Achievement | Trophy Guide - YouTube[/ame]

It starts at 15:30, and what he is doing is throwing them at the lower ledge and landing in the water as they are unconscious so it counts it as a suicide. I recommend saving right where he is so that if it does count as a kill you can revert back and try again. This does work though, I have confirmed this and at the end of his video he shows that he didn't kill anyone. If you're unsure how to get the other Pendleton up there with his brother just watch earlier in the video.

I'd like to add that the alertness can go Red. Aslong as they don't come after you trying to attack you Etc. You will be fine. I've done it countless times and still got my Ghost tick at the mission end.

Note that I mentioned "Go red and break", breaking means it goes all the way up to 3 bars and then turns red.

In this case, they will come after.

Sure it will turn red when it gains each bar, but it won't break until you got detected.

I will clear that up anyway.

Thanks.
