Chao Kindergarden

Im playing the story but when I leave the garden with or without a chao It sends me straight back to the story? Anyone know what's up?

That's how the game is. When you are at the main menu pick level select and then you can go anywhere in the Chao Garden

if you enter the Chao Garden while in story mode, when you exit it, you'll go straight back to the story.

If you want to raise chao properly, do it from the mission select menu
